[q] n900t at&t - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I am looking to use a T-Mobile N3 on AT&T LTE in USA (for unlocked bootloader so I can use custom ROM). Is this possible? Are there any nuances of the phone/connectivity that would not work? Is it as simple as putting my AT&T sim in the phone? Sorry, not too tech savvy. Thanks

I'm using my T-Mobile Note 3 with ATT right now. If I remember correctly I just popped in the SIM and it worked. This is after I set it up with a T-Mobile card, though, and I may have unlocked before using the ATT card.
Now I have it rooted too, everything is fine.
EDIT: sorry I forgot to mention I also changed the APN settings after putting in the ATT card. I think you have to do that too. Bookmonke in his better response below has the link with the info.
NOW FOR A HIJACK:
I want Google Wallet to work, so I think I need to upgrade to KitKat.
Any suggestions as to which ROM to use on this phone that is both KitKat and will work best with ATT?
Also I guess I will have to install TWRP or Clockwork, and thus 'trip Knox' whatever that means. Should I care? I'm not going to return the phone at this point.

Yes, T-moble 900T works great on AT&T, just needs SIM unlocked and the proper APN put in, follow this thread for the best way.

The Knox feature is about security which will no longer operate if tripped. It can also mean the loss of warranty for your device. As for roms check the developer roms to see which one's offer the features you want.

Thank you very much. What is the best way to root the N900T and install a custom recovery? Chainfire seems to only root the device without installing a recovery? Is there a step by step guide on how to do both? Haven't been able to find an all-encompassing one. Thanks

Please correct me if im wrong, but after you use chainfires root you should be able to install TWRP through goomanager from the play store.

I just used Chainfires root and used his region unlock to get rid of the sim lock, then used goo manager from play store to install TWRP.

[How to] Sim Unlock the Galaxy S4 Without the Hidden Menu

HOW TO SIM UNLOCK THE SGH-M919, no unlock code necessary.
This thread is for all of you that have tried this method and have failed: How to SIM unlock Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 (tested - works) - Updated: 7/2/13
EDIT: I'm sorry to say that after testing this method out on a replacement s4 running stock 4.3 with the MK2 bootloader, this method DOES NOT WORK ON 4.3 OTA OR MK2 BOOTLOADER
The previous method worked on Samsung devices running the old firmware and was patched by T-Mobile and Samsung in the M919UVUAMDL release. Many new (purchased in the last few months) devices have been known to have this release pre-installed.
This is not my work, it is chainfire's genius. You must, at the very least, go and give him the "Thanks". If you can, donate a beer.
His app "RegionLockAway" was intended to de-regionlock devices that Samsung had marketed as "unlocked" (i9505, N9005, etc).
However, a common side-effect for other carrier-branded variants was that it unlocked their devices as well. I tried it and it worked on my SGH-M919 that I bought from T-Mobile.
TO UNLOCK THE M919,
1. Make sure that you are on the completely stock touchwiz setup that came with the phone (bootloader, kernel, and stock touchwiz rom). You can restore via kies/odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628. Again, thank the developer if you used it.
2. Install RegionLockAway Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
3. Thank the developer, even if it doesn't work.
4. Run the RegionLockAway app and click "Region Unlock"
5. Follow all onscreen instructions carefully.
6. Reboot and test it out with preferably a non-North American SIM. This ensures that not only is it unlocked, but also region unlocked. If it asks you for a code, it failed.
As a standard disclaimer:
If you bricked it, it's your fault. I tried it on my own and it worked for me.
As always, I highly recommend donating to the developers who helped you.
First time first! Thanks for this info. I themed chain fire as well

region unlock and sim unlock aren't the same as far as I know.
You can use sims outside of your region (country) but you can't slap an at&t sim card in there and use it.

No they are not BUT they're closely related that doing one usually result in the other. RegionLockAway will SIM unlock when use correctly. I used it a few months ago to SIM unlock my GS4. After it was done I put in an AT&T SIM and made a few calls plus try a few websites.

Like I said, SIM unlock is usually a side effect of Region-unlocking.

T-Mo gave me an "Unlock code" and it was from Sammy, and it would not work. After 3 tries, each with a different code, it still would not work, so I gave up.
Today using chainfire's app, it works, and I insert an At&T sim card, and it doesn't ask for the code anymore! it's UNLOCKED, and it recieves a signal and connects to the internet via my wireless router. All's good and after placing my T-Mo sim back in, it's all good!
All the connections still like it used to be.
Awesome!
I just called tmobile they provide me with unlock code.

This the method I used for rooting when I had 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611175
Check my signature for a link to how I rooted with 4.4.2
Depending on the version of Android you have on that phone, it will trip the Knox flag. Which won't affect the performance of the phone, but will indicate you messed with your phone. There may be other rooting methods that work, but this one worked for me.
BTW, I found that method by using Search on this forum and Google.

The safe root method is how i rooted with 4.3 but it is my understanding that you need your phone to be unlocked to use a different carrier. Unlocked and rooted are 2 different things.

If you can get into Download mode (Power Off, then Volume Down+Power Button), then you'll need to download the Stock Rom and transfer it to your phone via ODIN. Do you know if you were 4.2, 4.3, or 4.42 before you bricked it? You can download the images from Sammobile.com

If you have access to ClockWork Mod Recovery, wipte the cache and dalvik and see if that lets it boot.
If not, just download a rom, any rom from the dev section that you want to try and put it on a micro SD card. Put the SD card in your phone.
Do a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) in recovery and flash the downlaoded ROM file. Your phone should boot right up.
You'll want a TouchWiz based rom if you still need to perform the SIM unlock proceedure so you can use it on the Cricket network. But once step at a time here...

Thats cause it wasn;t rooted before, hopefully it is now, cause my wife just went to Cricket to see if she can get her Iphone and mine on their network
I finally got the phone rooted but I screwed it up so bad I had to install a different rom to make it work, so not I'm roted and running wicked rom .Next I installed, updated and ran region away, it said it didn;t know if it worked or not, but I was told that it does unlock so hopefully it did.
I havea different S4 here ( SGHM919) that I'm gonna try the cf auto root on when the battery is fully charged, cause both my sons have S4's and they want to keep the rom they have now just be unlocked

SM-P605V locked bootloader options

So I'm new to this, obviously, and I planned on installing the xkat ROM. Seemed simple enough and I've been able to get everything downloaded. The problem is that I apparently need to load TWRP, but that requires an unlocked bootloader. So far I don't see any evidence that this can be done on the Note 10.1 2014 edition from Verizon. Clockworkmod and TWRP don't list this device (specifically anyways) as being compatible.
Any pointers or thoughts? Lost cause?

I guess I'm just double checking that as of right now there is no way to do it on this tablet. If that's the case I'll move more towards customizing the stock rom more to my liking and just call it good.
Thx for this post...I wish I could go to another provider but when paid for freely by the job hard to go out and get a bill....but TWRP would be nice to have...

[Q] Upgrading Samsung SCH-I435 to Android Lollipop

I haven't found any information for my specific model for some reason.
What I want to do is install stock Android 5 (by stock, I mean what comes on the Google Nexus) on my Verizon Samsung s4 mini (SCH-I435).
To my knowledge, this would involve:
Rooting the phone
Finding a compatible ROM
Flashing the ROM
I just can't find any guides or ROMs for my specific model. Can anyone here help?
I have the exact same model of the s4-mini as you do, and I've looked around just about everywhere. It seems that the bootloader has never been unlocked for this variant of the S4-mini. Verizon also just released a new firmware update that patches the kernel, preventing the use of previous root methods, and it may be some time till someone finds a way around it. If you find anything, please tell me, as I can't stand this bloatware crap on my phone.

Usually people create software, such as Cyanogenmod, that exploit vulnerabilities in the software on the phone, giving them access to the bootloader. One of the many issues with this variant is that it is distributed by Verizon, and Verizon is very vigilant about patching vulnerabilities.
EDIT: After a little more digging, I found that the bootloader is completely locked and there is a 99.9999999% chance that it will never be unlocked, typical Verizon for you.

You can root the SCH-I435 with towel root, install SuperSU and Busy Box from Play store. Then flash phils touch recovery and then flash a rom from SD card in recovery. Beware, if you are on Bluegrass cellular. Any rom must be for CDMA phone for the SCH-I435.

Definitely not legit. They simply have tons of links on their site to upgrading every single phone to lollipop. Inside of each page is exactly the same link to the same "ROM" for every phone, and the comments at the bottom of the page aren't actually real, they are just a picture. Try changing the number at the end of the link "...updateupgrade_70.html" and you will see what I mean.
I was able to successfully root my phone by flashing 4.4.2 NE1 (opposed to the latest version) via Odin and using Towelroot.
Has there been any progress on the addition of a custom recovery?

I found something interesting that might be worth looking into. Just curious, would over of the international variant ROMs work if we managed to unlock the bootloader or would the SCH-I435 require its own specific one?

It seems that the only thing that this has to offer for us is a way to flash your phone without using a computer, and to back up your phone (I haven't actually tried restoring from a backup). But we still need a version of CWM or TWRP that is made for the sch-i435.

But we'd still need to unlock the boy loader...
SCH-I435
Anyone got success for installing custom recovery and custom ROM on SCH-I435 Verizon? Please help if anyone have done that all.

So two years later - has this ever been done?
I need to put android 5.0 on my S4 Mini so I can use the Square app to accept credit card payments for my business. Their app will not work on anything earlier than 5.0. Otherwise I will have to buy a new phone!:crying:

Can I flash ROMs intended for other note 4 variants?

I'm asking this question because the current build of CM13 for the N910V is underdeveloped at this time and I was wondering if I could flash CM13 for the SM-N910T or the sprint variant without any modem issues, etc.
Do a nandroid using TWRP and try it out. I've been testing different ROMs myself. I don't care for ASOP. Kind of ugly and useless without stock Samsung Apps. But I have tested MIUI, and a few other stock based ROMs found in the international Note 4 forum.

Just backup your EFS, Modem, and Boot partitions for sure. If you get a successful flash, immediately use TWRP to restore those partitions and you should be golden. Might also have to edit build.prop to avoid Play Store issues.

Has anyone tried a Sprint TW rom 6.0.1? I may give it a whirl and see if it works.

what roms are available to flash?
Hi there,
I find myself in an unusual(i think?) situation in that I have the verizon Note 4 but i live in Ireland. Now while the phone is sim free for the most part, Data does not work here without a verizon plan obviously and it would have to be a roaming plan so I would'nt even think about purchasing one. So i've been waiting for an opportunity to root my N4, now that there is a method I'm just wondering if I would be able to flash a stock Irl/Uk rom to my phone, or another rom that would allow me to have data and spen features. I would like to find out if this is possible before I attempt to root. My phone is on 5.1.1 and is the BPA1 version. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Pending you could add the correct APN for whatever carrier you will be using, you should be fine. I purchased 2 of these devices nearly 2 years ago. I'm on Verizon prepaid and my wife has been on T-Mobile every since.
Funny thing is I didn't have to set her APN manually. The phone did it automatically the day I put her SIM in. Now she doesn't get the full potential of LTE speeds and MMS is a bit kwonky, but it works.

Thanks for the reply,
do you mean add the APN settings after i've rooted? I'm intending to flash the vodafone 5.1.1 IRL Stock Rom if it's possible, I already tried adding the APN settings and it does not work(unrooted) due to bootloader being locked and like i said i would need a verizon roaming plan to be able to use data. So if I get root and flash IRL vodafone stock rom, will I still have an unlocked phone or not? I'm not an expert in this but I would assume the phone would then be locked on the vodafone network yes? Or would it remain unlocked to any network? So just to be clear, what i would like to know is 1. will I be able to flash a stock rom from Vodafone Ireland once i'm rooted 2. If I do manage to flash Vodafone stock rom, will the phone still be unlocked or locked to vodafone? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Unlocked sim and unlocked bootloader are different. The phone is sim unlocked from the factory and can never be sim relocked (for lack of a better term). So to answer #2, the phone will not be locked to vodafone.
For #1, I seriously doubt you could odin a stock vodafone rom to this phone and even if you could I'd highly discourage it. If the file contained a bootloader, it would lock the bootloader and could potentially brick the phone. I would recommend unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP recovery, rooting (or flash a rooted rom), and add your APN's. If the stock rom is blocking you from adding APN's there are hacks to get around it once rooted. I used to use an app called APN Manager that you install as a /system app that would let you change APN's as you wish.

Any Touchwiz rom should support the S Pen. I believe the Paul (5.1.1) rom does. There's a Note 5 rom that should support it. Just stay away from CM13 or any AOSP roms and you should have S Pen support.

Not such an unusual situation hello from Ireland also a proud verizon note 4 user myself. Meteor and Emobile for me. Data works fine. Let me know if ya need any help.
I am also curious about this situation. I got an awesome deal for my 910v; brand new unopened for 280usd. Only problem is T-mobile sim doesn't get service, and it seems people have lost T-mobile service after upgrading to 5.0. So now I'm stuck with my aging S3 and this brilliant phone just sits there. Fingers crossed that johnboy sees some good results T.T
