A big thanks to everyone here. - Desire General

So, after 3.5 years of sticking truly to that beautiful old dinosaur that is my HTC Desire, I've finally decided to move on to bigger and better things, so I went and bought myself a Nexus 5 yesterday.
I just wanted to let everyone here know that I couldn't be happier as a Desire owner, what with this excellent community that kept pushing the limits of this old device ever on and on. To each and every one of you who made a contribution to this community, I just wanted to express my greatest gratitude, for making the experience of owning an HTC Desire something special. Half the fun of owning this device was not only in using, but in customising it entirely as well, and that simply wouldn't have been possible without you.
I'm keeping my old Desire by the way (there's no way I could do away with it), so maybe I'll be around from time to time. Otherwise, you'll probably find me in the Nexus 5 forum.
Thanks a million! Cheers!

See you on N5 forums! Received it two days ago, it's simply awesome!

Will Desire ever be a modded phone?

Hi,
I am due to trade in my faithful G1 in the next three weeks. The obvious choice financially for a replacement is the Desire.
The best thing about owning the G1 was the wave of development that has followed its release, I have really enjoyed being able to swap ROMs and have the such a wide range of choice to do so.
So, will the Desire ever have this developer base, or has it been eclipsed by the Nexus in this respect? has anyone else thought about this as part of their decision for their next handset?
I know the stock answer is going to be "get a Nexus", but that doesnt makes financial sense at the moment. Maybe I will have to wait until a proper UK release....

I don't see how you might think the Desire won't get a large developer base. Any phone on XDA gets a large developer base IMO and there are are plenty of Android specific forums that can help you mod when the phone has been rooted.
I think you'll be fine to upgrade to the Desire
The desire will be rooted soon and supposedly has interchangeable roms with the N1 anyway.
All sounds reassuring, thanks I probably named this post poorly..I think it was the extent to which attention would be focused I was concerned about. G1 and Nexus seemed to be in the right place at the right time when devs like Cyanogen were getting hold of new handsets and modding them.
Although I hope I am wrong it is by no means certain that the Desire will be "hacked" to accept Custom ROMs. I understand that Paul at Modaco has been able to "root" the Desire but a lot more work is required before Custom ROMs can be loaded.
There is an assumption here that the "Developers" can do anything. It might just not be possible without a "leak" from someone within HTC.
It might be worth waiting a while before purchasing.
or you just buy it and wait for it to be rooted?
why should you wait until it is cuz we all know it will be rooted. its only a matter of time.
and if it cant be rooted we are screwd because all new htc (android) devices will have the same kind of security or even better !!

I am in the same boat as you... I have a G1 and absolutely love the modding and dev community out there, it made my phone 1000x more fun to own . I have been looking at the Desire and there are some great deals out there (price wise) so I am seriously considering getting one. The N1 is too expensive for me atm, plus the N1 hasnt sold as well as Google had hoped... For me I hope the desire will outsell the N1 and hopefully have a large dev support....

Thanks to all on XDA

Not 100% sure whether this is the correct forum section to post in, but I just want to express my thanks to this rocking community and forum.
I was once here long time ago when I was proud owner of an HTC TyTn Windows Mobile phone and already at that time this site was the source for custom Roms and help from the community.
Now, many years ago, after a long journey accompanied by all iPhone models from 1 to 4s, I finally ended up with a Samsung Galaxy Note and am more than happy to see how much is possible to do with the device if you have the right ROM
Thanks to all, happy to be here again.
I bet it's a huge different from your iPhones huh?
You made the right choice
Yes it sure is. The Galaxy Note managed to replace my iPhone and my iPad and is the perfect device between. Plus, I missed a stylus

you are very welcome! always glad to be able; to help

Thanks

I have been an avid supporter of the Android system and swore I'd never get an IPhone but thanks to the PA system at Tescos and a HTC Desire that met an unfortunate end, I am now in possession of said phone. I just wanted to say a massive thanks to all the developers who gave me so many great roms and help but now I must move to the dark side I will still pop into this forum as my Missus is a proud HTC user and I want to see how the roms continue to progress.
Thanks to all for a great 2 android years

Actually, quite disappointed you have converted to the dull side. I'm sure you'll be back!!
Pretty sure you'll end up selling that iPhone and buy something Android.

I used to be a nexus *****

I used to be proud to call myself a nexus *****. I had a gnex,a n7 and used to fantasize endlessly about the nex 1, but couldn't afford it because I was in college then.
When dev rascarlo introduced the term nexus ***** for us crack flashers, I adopted it without question, because I believed thats what I was. I hated tw with a passion, but I always loved the look of sense, but kept myself from buying the one x by saying to myself that it's a slow device heavily bogged down by sense, multitasking is **** on it, and the screen is bad compared to my super amoled.
Then my wife broke her galaxy s. N took my nexus. So being short on cash right now, I had to choose between the onex, nexus 4 and the note 2. Note 2 being too pricey, and nexus 4 being too brittle,I chose a 32gb hox, albeit with apprehension.
I AM IN LOVE.
I instantly fell in love with the build, the optically bonded screen is mindblowing, sense just plain works, beats sound is super awesome, camera is light years ahead of my nexus and everything is just do damn pretty. Btw viperx rocks like crazy. After 2 weeks of use,I also finally solved my battery woes. I just can't express how much I love this phone, it's like something I can just plain enjoy, nothing else, no ifs no buts.
I KNOW I AM MORE THAN A YEAR LATE TO THE PARTY, BUT HELLO Y'ALL!
You lucky bastards, you....

Welcome to the HTC side of force
Its not easy to hold myself back when Sammy launches a new Galaxy, i mean specs are mind blowing usually. But after holding the plastic brick in hand and just looking at fisher price colored menus, choice is clear. HTC starts to make sense.
Better late then never, lots of decent devs in the HOX forums. I'm certain you'll have heaps of fun. Happy flashing.

Thanks guys. Honestly though I don't see any need of flashing right now. I got ma fone exactly the way me wants it. Now just that pesky ****-off thing.....

Hi guys I'm in the same situation , I was a proud owner of a Sony Xperia T . Thought it was the dogs danglies ..... Until I played around with my friends one x .
Got it yesterday and I'm in love massively better .
Sony firmware is so so buggy to be usable one a daily device .
Love the sound quality as I'm a Dj I use my phone to listen to all my mixes everyday . Screen is awesome .
Love it fact .

[Q] General Thoughts on the One M8.. Considering returning to Dev

Hi All
some of you know me some of you don't, looking for some general feedback and feelings around the One M8 as a device overall from its xda user group.
The plan, providing I manage to get my hands on one, is to get back into Development and resurrect LeeDrOiD Roms.
It's been a while!
Cheers
It's a great device, certainly a worthy successor to the m7, if you've had any time with that.
screen is gorgeous (if not for lacking a little bit of space due to the on screen buttons)
the camera effects are a treat and fun to play with. For the most part they work pretty well. 4 megapixels is a shortcoming though, regardless of the ultra pixel size
gestures work (they are take it or leave it though, if you use them you love them, if you don't you can do without them)
BoomSound kicks and is an improvement over thevbeats audio sound profile
OS is extremely quick no lag whatsoever even on bloated stock roms
touch screen is extremely sensitive (maybe a touch too sensitive)
ample built in storage + sdcard = [emoji106]
BlinkFeed much improved over initial versions
There's definitely more I could say but I'm sure it's all stuff you've read in reviews, so I will just give my personal opinion: It's friggin awesome!
As with the m7, the m8 has a very robust development and theme community (in the international m8 forum), however, there's always room for LeeDroid!
Excellent. Definitely should consider coming back and doing a ROM for this phone. It's a great successor to the M7.
I use to only but HTC devices. Starting with the Nexus One to the HTC Hero and all the way up to the Evo 3D . I then felt like they weren't what they used to be and felt they were dropping the ball. So I decided to switch to Samsung. I've owned the Galaxy S2, 3, 4, the Galaxy Note 1, 2 and 3. I then started to get a little disappointed in Samsung and had to make a choice of sticking with them and going with the S5 or giving HTC another chance and getting the One M8. Well I decided to go with the One M8 and boy am I glad I did. As with every device there are going to be a few things you wish they would of done differently but in all honesty, this is hands down the best Android device I've ever owned and I've owned a lot so that's saying something. I'm telling you now if your on the fence just jump and jump fast lol. I promise you, you will not regret it. HTC hit it out of the park with this one imo.

Man, can't wait to see you back...
Why you just don't consider developing for M7 and M8, the rom is almost the same... But both phones are awesome! I have a M7
Just to chime in here, I absolutely love the M8. It's my favorite phone since the HD2.
You should definitely grab one, even if you don't wanna dev on it, just to have.
But of course, on the other hand, the more devs we have for it the better.
Hey leedroid! I remember your developing from when I had my old phones. I used to help out sundawg with his ROMs testing and thread maintenance. I am picking my M8 the first week of July when have my JUMP available. The wife just got the phone and I'm jealous. Its an amazing and beautiful phone. We would be honored to have you back deving and this device would be perfect!

Yeah old thread, but I decided to search google for leedroid to see what was going on. I was right thinking you weren't dev on xda anymore, but to see that you're maybe coming back! Your rom were awesome. Since I quit your rom for a new phone, I'm on viper and has been with them for my last phones. But if your to come back, to M8.. dam... I'll surely try your rom for old time sake!
Leedroid makes incredible roms...... would love to have something from him on this awesome piece of hardware!
Hi, The Legendary Leedroid.
I have been using your Leedroid ROM for Desire since 2011.
In fact I'm still using it until now.
It's good to hear that you are planning to come back.
Can't wait for the next Leedroid..
Regards,
Szenpai
