.
Hello there, dear friends and ZL users, fans and haters.
Sadly, there are lots of threads on the ZL forum (and other places on the web) talking about the different hardware failures
our phone has to offer, such as dead batteries, cracking noise on the mic, dead pixles on the camera, flickering displays,
proximity and other sensors not working, LEDs not flashing and phones that just don't want to boot from the very first day.
Personally, I've never had any of those faults even though I consider myself a power user, flashing roms, kernels and mods
on a daily basis, playing around with voltage levels and even taking the whole device apart.
I've got the phone since may last year and it's still running like it should. A few friends of mine also own the ZL and they
didn't experience any hardware problems neither.
So I'm asking myself why there are so many faulty devices out there..
I would love to see some ideas and opinions about the actual hardware and how Xperias could/should develop in the future,
read some stories about your experiences with the phone and the Sony warranty service.
What do you think about the look and feel?
Are things like cameras, buttons and sensors placed in the right corners?
Any thoughts on material and build quality?
Why did you buy it and would you buy it again?
How should a possible ZL successor be for you to buy it?
What functions would you like to see in future Xperias that others already have?
..etc..
There might be some Sony folks out there who actually read xda forums and who knows..
Please also post some infos like device model, the rom you're running, BL and root status and where and when you've bought it.
.

Mine:
- Xperia ZL C6503, bought at a store around the corner (Germany) in may 2013
- running PAC-man rom (2014.01.22 nightly)
- BL is unlocked
- got root access
- voltages back to normal
- hardware problems: none so far. (well, there is one single tiny dead pixel on the display, but its so small I can't really see it)
For me it had to be a phone that can handle LTE traffic and it should have a non-glass back and a dedicated camera button.
Honestly, I don't understand why it is so hard for those companies to attach a camera button to their devices..
Coming from Galaxy S3, I wanted a whole new design (and sony did a good job here!) and a phone without an EFS-partition
that could accidentally be deleted running my phone useless..
So it had to be the ZL, but I had concerns from the beginning as the ZL was released at the same time as the Z and there
was almost no publicity for the ZL on the media. I knew sooner or later Sony might abandon the ZL.
The only thing I really don't like, is the non removable battery (that's a plus for Samsung).
Your turn.

Hmmm...
Mine:
- Xperia ZL C6506, bought via the Bitcoinstore November 2013
- running 0.101 stock
- BL is unlocked
- got root access
- No hardware issues to date.
Basically the ZL was a target of opportunity. My wife was having all sorts of difficulties with her Samsung S2, and I bought this thinking she would like it (one of her biggest complaints was the lack of a camera button...) turns out she liked touchwiz more than she missed the camera button... oh, and the S3 screen's brighter (wider viewing angle, deeper blacks, etc)... so I swapped... and this is a faster phone, I personally like it better than the S3. The viewing angles do bother me if I'm trying to use my phone while it's laying on a table... (if the brightness is lower)... I personally find the images it takes decent. I miss the excess of developers... the ZL seems to have a few developers, but most of those are primarily using another device and therefore aren't as invested in keeping things going on the ZL - and I'm not much of a developer... (don't have the hardware to monkey around for fear of hosing my primary phone).

My Turn:
- Xperia ZL C5606, Won at a launch event March 2013
- Running AOKP 2/8/14 Nightlie, but bounce between AOKP, CM and Omni.
- Using allspark's kernel with double tap to wake (best feature ever!)
- Unlock BL
- Rooted
- Hardware issue: Numerous dead pixels in my camera!!
I actually ended up winning this phone at a launch even in Toronto (Canada) back when I worked for Rogers, Canadas largest (and most criminal) company. Before this i had the LG Optimus G. That was basically the same phone (same processor, ram and GPU setup), but I gotta say it was a nicer phone physically. It also had a MUCH nicer display, even though it was only 720P. But the camera on the Optimus G was GARBAGE!! Anyone ever use the Nexus 4 camera? Ya, its the same one. Also the back of the LG was cracked when i bought it, which that phone had a problem with. But for 100$ it was a steal! I kept the ZL over the G for the camera quality, and expandable storage.
Little did i know that the camera on the ZL would crap out on me too! It workse fine, but i have a BOATLOAD of dead pixels in my lens, you'll see in my pic. Otherwise Im happy with the ZL. I love the screen to bezel ratio also, another reason i kept it. Also, sony developer world is fantastic about releasing source code, so we get support from all the major players like Cyanogenmod, AOKP, P.A.C and OmniRom, all officially, not just ports. The picture included is just a shot of my comp screen with a blank white word doc. I tried to get it out of focus so the dead pixels show up more.

ZL was great
Mine is as you can see on my signature. ok
Honestly...
ZL is my dream device after i have xperia L, and couple month later, i bought this ZL on januari 2014 with enthusiastic n happy.
until now, so far so good n no hardware fault or error.
I dont like from ZL is two :
1. the non removable battery.
2. placement of the front camera, why "sony" have to put there.
that's my opinion of my ZL.
thanks.

I've never really dealt with Sony warranty service, but when I went to buy my ZL from a Sony Outlet Store the customer service was pretty awesome. I've since gone back and bought an Xperia Tablet Z (which I sold recently) and an Xperia Z Ultra (to take the place of the XTZ as my tablet).
Why did you buy it and would you buy it again?

I originally bought it because I wanted to switch back to Android after a year of Windows Phone use. I ended up deciding to go with Sony because of how awesome they've been as far as working with the open-source development community. I went with the ZL because it supports LTE on T-mobile and because I liked the reviews. Considering that I bought a second one (my first has bootloader unlock allowed: no), I'd say it's true that I'd buy it again.

My turn, very simple brief
Nothin is bothering me so far. Used it for ova a year. Stock no root. Just minor prob which i can live with :
1 . Not dead pixel but lense problem
tiny little dots. Only when snap picture
(not that obvious)
2. 2secs delay on wake up. ( after the latest update). Ima wait for upcoming updates that maybe can sort it out. ( hopefully )
No other problems or watsoever.

Dude, I will lol who I want when I want "ova" what I want, LOL
I won one of these devices back in March, BEFORE the official launch date.
Mine came DIRECTLY from Sony.
And they said they couldn't ship it until the Official launch day of April 1st.
Im not calling you a liar, I just wanna see a receipt

I unfortunately have some problems with the camera - namely a black dot that appears in all images I take with it like this one:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mlrswlsy3jnfw12/DSC_0015.JPG
I contacted Sony about it, awaiting an answer now to see if it's covered by the warranty.
I am also using the stock rom and I am rooted - Additionally, the Compass seems to mostly not work.

Thats sweet.
Those bastards wouldn't send me mine until Apr 1st.
I was at a pre-release event in March, and they had a bunch of demo units, but said they weren't the final product, and that they had some bugs.
Either they were full of crap, or maybe they were 502 units, which don't have the LTE bands needed for my country (Canada).
I never thought to check the build or unit number back then because I didn't think about them releasing different variants.
Wheres the speaker grill located on your unit?
I've seen some pics floating around of pre-release units that have the speaker grill on top of the camera rather than the side. Looks way better.

Oh right,
speaking of that, mine is not an LTE version. They were duin some pre released and some sort of competitions. I wasnt aware of zl untill my sgnote gave up on me. Never had sony in my mind anyway. At the same time saw my friend hes a phone distributor. Sold the unpack zl which im using now. I guess mine is the earlier version or some sort of demo version which i did not aware of. But, its funny tho, that my speaker grill is on the right side of the lense. I guess they shipped out different version for different country for warranty purposes.. Im not too sure

An interesting thing happened to me recently. The faulty battery problem killed my phone right after I finished installing the .569 update. I won't bore you with the details of the symptoms since it's been covered extensively here. Needless to say, I had to call up Sony for a warranty service repair. Luckily I am running bone stock and had no worries about being covered or not. I sent the phone in to their service center and got my phone back 10 business days later.
They replaced:
Battery
Battery connector
Front assembly
Battery ground
All buttons
Misc. screws
Speaker cover
Mic cover
Misc. adhesives
It's funny because they replaced almost all cosmetic parts except for the back cover and SIM/SD card door.
*** I should warn all users who are thinking about officially unlocking their bootloader or opening up your phone to hold off on doing anything that would void your warranty. You never know what can go wrong with the phone. ***
As for the phone, I think it's one of the best on the market. The 4.3 update made it much smoother and more enjoyable to use. I no longer mess around with custom ROM all the time. I find that stock is best for what I need to phone to do. I need the thing to be rock solid stable; it is a tool to get my work done so I need everything to work. Is it perfect? No. Nothing is, but stock is the most stable. The skin is feature rich enough without being bloated. It is more charming than pure Android.
I had to use my old Galaxy Nexus while the ZL was out for repairs. The difference was so noticeable that I am very happy to be back using the ZL. The Galaxy Nexus would stutter at the most simple tasks if I've been using it heavily. The home screen would blank out and have to redraw constantly. The ZL has been more cooperative when it comes to being able to handle a heavier workload. I recently bought the Xperia Z1S for my brother, and that thing is a beast. It can handle more tasks without slowing down. The speed difference is less noticeable than the Galaxy Nexus to the ZL, but I wouldn't complain if someone bought it for me.
My next phone will be a waterproof one for sure. I like Sony's design language and skin so I think I will stick with them. I don't think I will buy a new phone anytime soon though, but if I were, I would look for something that is similar in dimensions to the ZL with all the features of the waterproof ones.

Stil restart problems I give up

As from today I have my arc for sale, its the first time since Ive been around here I only had a phone for less than 3 months...
No matter how many times I flashed my arc it keeps restarting every now and than which means I am not available till I notice it. As I really use my phone for business purposes as well I can't afford missing calls from customers.
I really love the design, brought my phone back twice for repair, and still having this annoying problem.
I want to thank everyone for their help and nice talks and maybe we meet each other in another section once.
For now I don't know which phone to choose, so I will go shopping this weekend.
Cheers for now,
Arnold

To bad the Arc didn't work out for you, i can imagine your frustration.
We have 2 arc's around the house, and indeed, sometimes both rebooted for no reason at all (like just lying on my desk), but since i put the new firmware on them it realy doesn't happen anymore.
The only (rarely) reboots that stay are the ones when stressing the CPU.
Both devices are on firmware 3.0.1.A.0.145, rooted but bootloader still locked.
Hope you find a device that suits your needs better, but i beg to differ you'll find one with a more sexier design

It's very sad but I can understand you very well. I have an original sealed SGSII here and complaining with myself if I shall open and use it or if i send it back.
My Arc is annoying my quite a lot in the last time because it reality permanently loses the WLAN connection. The connection is totally lost or the Arc shows a connection but giving the "... no network... " error
I've done all troubleshooting that I could find but nothing helps. May sound stupid but it seems that the connection is lost more often the longer the Arc is running with one FW version.

Have you honestly got nothing better to do with your life than make useless posts like that?
@Pollpixx: have you not considered getting the handset repaired or replaced under warranty?
Yeah I agree with Step666 .. I think instead of repairing see if you get a replacement. Xperia Arc is worth fighting for
Like i said, it was out for repair twice and will not be replaced for free...well I also have my LG optimus 2x which works fine and yesterday I bought an iphone 4 because I have an ipad2 for my birthday and I love the way the graphics and gameplay are on those devices. Real Racing 2 HD on Ipad2 for example is incredible real... but I agree, it is hardly customazible, so i use it for those games and bussiness only...
My Arc is for sale now, just had a bad monday morning item maybe, but I can't afford having my phone turned off daily, that will cost me turnover for my work in the end.
Enjoy your Arc's, I don't have a "burn the device" feeling like some other people, it was just a faulty product I get my hands on and now I don't trust it anymore.
Nevertheless, thanks very much for the advice!
Cheers,
Arnold
That's a pity Pollpixx. I'm sure the other forums would love to have you.
But how about turning it in for repairs and just keep it as a spare phone? I feel it'd be a shame to just sell it.

Why not?
You're in the EU, you must be covered by some sort of consumer protection laws?
My concern if I were in your situation is that I wouldn't feel comfortable selling a faulty item.
Not that I'm suggesting you'll dupe whoever buys it or anything like that, it'd just bother me is all.
As for the iPhone4, can't blame you for getting one - they're nice handsets. Not my cup of tea personally due to how locked-down they are but really nice pieces of kit nonetheless.
The iPad however - boo!

BNew HOXes - build quality

Hi,
I am getting ready to buy a HOX as the S3 is not to my liking.
As we all know some of the first HOXes had build quality issues like yellowish screen spots, cracking of the outer shell and screen, and flickering.
I am wondering if HTC has successfully adressed those issues yet. Could new owners please report their build quality (please no early adopters anymore).
Please report any issues (also please report if you don't have any) and your device color (as it seems to indicate country of production).
Surely more ppl than just myself are curious to know if HTC has addressed the issues.
Thanks for your kindness in sharing your experiences.
All the best.

thanks. I've asked because I've looked at one in a local store. It cracked and had a noticable annoying yellow spot on the screen. Also HTC had promised to address the issues. I'm just wondering how production of the devices improved...
got my HOX 11 days after the uk release and i have had no issues whatsoever. The build quality is htc standard aswell, plastic phone but damn good quality sturdy plastic lol. none of the samsung rubbish
i love my one x and nth is wrong with it its just the battery. what pisses me off is that the S3 has the same dimension a bit different and same wight just 3g difference and they have a 2100 mAh battery, what would have happened if HTC did that God !!!! im sorry im just really pissed just saw this
please make sure other than that i love the phone it works great i have nth to say more than its 99% great just battery life and if i have to recomend someone to get a phone it is the HOX for lots of reasons !!!
my answer for u is go ahead and buy the HOX its a great phone !!!
chances of a fauly one?
The build quality issues are the only thing stopping me getting one too. They are about $100 cheaper to buy on ebay than in a store (buying outright) but would be a real pain to have to ship back and forth if it was faulty. What do you think the chances would be of getting a fauly one? or worth the extra money to be able to return it the same day ?

I've seen 3 different one x and they all had issues and my latest is from a newer batch and it have flickering, screen issues and a low lit back button. Most people that are happy with their handsets either are the kind that dont look for flaws or fanboys, as youve started this thread i guess youre not that kind. I think all phones have flickering in some degree but most people dont see it. The amount of faulty hoxes is way too frequent. You should listen to those who put their phones under a microscope if you want an objective opinion.

I dont know why people keep say things like "why can company A do this but company B can't?" It makes no sense at all. Just because Motorola can make an awesome battery or S3 has a bigger battery so HTC HAS TO be able to do the same thing. Well, apparently they cant. Their technology doesnt allow them to do that, and it's ok. No need to get worked up about it. If their stuff doesn't live up to your expectations then feel free to not buy them. SO now the dozens of people who have faulty handsets on XDA (look at the poll) represent the market?
I got mine on release day here on the UK (5th April I think) - I've not had any issues with mine, no flickering, no spots, no creaking etc.

I also got mine early, on friday before the offcial release date in germany.
My HOX is perfectly. No screen flickering, no yellow ****, screen cracking etc.
Got my UK HT23 One X on release day from Phones4U and have the flickering screen issue. I wonder if the HT24 versions have the issues people are having? Can anyone confirm this?
Mine is perfect as well

My One X is perfect(there is a chance the screen flickers and i have umpteen dead pixels but i need to borrow a microscope to make sure.) I have no creaks, rattling noises,no gaps between body and screen.I`d give it a 10/10 but downgrade it to 9/10 because i can`t get used to the volume controls on the right hand side.
I bought mine a week after release.

Mine is perfect too. Mine is an SH23 model, and if you do some research you'll find very contradicting evidence of HT (Taiwanese) or SH (Chinese) models being worse. All I can say is mine has no physical defects.

Thanks for the replies so far. It seems as if there are mainly first adopters, here as most ppl who have replied so far have bought their phone in the first week of release. That is to be expected, in this forum, I guess. But...
Has anyone bought one recently? like, say, in May?

yes my latest is ht24 and got it wedneysday and it is ****. it has this, really really noticeable, http://youtu.be/Dl1X37IyzdA
you should read the threads related to all the issues, not the happy-happy-threads cause they are subjective. its more frequent than some want you to believe. and I REALLY want to like this phone as everything besides build issues is great.

I got two HT243 phones one after the other, the first on the 17th of April, had a yellow band on the top left of the screen, a small gap on the left with the associated creacks and flex and the deal killer, Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
After 4 days, gave up and had it exchanged - the next was and still is perfect. Ten days after I got it, I unlocked it and am now experimenting with custom Roms.
This is my 5th HTC handset in as many years, all lived and worked in perfect state untill they got sold. I am confident my HOX will live up to the expectations.
The only drawback I really find is the battery, indeed, as this is a device that craves to be used, it's unexplainable, but I feel I cannot let it down. Bear in mind it's my fourth week with it already. Htc should have given us the option for a replaceable power pack.
So I suggest you get your unit from a retail store, so that you can examine the device beforehand, at least for the physical defects described on this forum.
.... Or make sure you have a later model HT245... HT25...

Joining the ion community

Hey folks, I'm a prior Inspire and Atrix 2 owner moving soon to the ion. My Atrix 2 caused me no end of troubles and AT&T offered to give me a new phone. Most people think I'm insane for not choosing the One x or the Atrix HD, but I have plenty of reasons to choose the ion. Is there anything I should know or be wary of before I jump in? It'll be about a week before my phone shows up. I already know that the bootloader is locked and the root is difficult and the ICS is supposedly on the way in a few weeks to a month or so, I'm really not super worried about any of that. I also have heard that the capacitive buttons are a pain.
I'm glad to be here!

None of that's true imo. Root is pretty easy, we have ics via hk firmware, we have init.d support and a working cwm. The capacitive buttons are not a pain, just different.
I like the state of things on the ion, not one-click easy, but not expert level either. It's enough to get to learn my phone.
The only thing we're missing at this point is custom dev work, but it's coming.

Well, that makes me feel even better! I suppose that was just the impression I got from briefly picking through the forums here. Either way, I can't wait to get my ion.

all you MAY or MAY NOT worry about are the call volume, speaker, battery life, and bootloader
call volume and speaker are acceptable to me and many, but some people complaint about it
short battery life is due to the LTE network, if you shut data down then it should last much longer. with LTE on, the battery should not last more than 24 hours
you don't need to worry about root or ICS but probably the bootloader
capacitive buttons are definitely not a pain. you should slide up on the icons to activate the functions. it's just a way sony prevents misclick, so blame sony for not pointing that out.
I don't think there's an LTE tower within 60 miles of here (and that's assuming Philly has LTE, if not...200 miles? Lol). As long as LTE doesn't affect battery life when you're not connected to an LTE tower, I ought to be fine. The battery is much bigger than my Atrix 2s and that had LTE as well.
I actually read about the sliding up. If that works as well as it sounds, it might actually be a nice feature.
I am quite happy with mine. ICS works quite well and the device has quite a bit of options built in. Cant really find allot of things I would change on it really. As for battery life I have not had any issue. I tend to stay on my wifi and we dont have LTE here but with heavy use I tend to see 13 hours fairly easy. With normal use I can go 24 hours or so. You should be pleased.
That's pretty impressive! Getting ICS on this device on my own right now is a bit daunting to me, but I'm sure it will come on its own in due time. What sort of "options" are you referring to? I quite enjoy the personalization of these devices, its the primary reason I chose Android in the first place.
Its not really as hard as it seems once you get adb setup properly. Just a guess but I highly doubt we will see a stock ATT ICS until after the new Sony device is released on ATT. With the Ion going to free so quickly it really does seem like it was test unit for the device that's coming as they are both quite similar in hardware.
As for options there are quite a few things you can change compared to some other devices. The themes are nice, ringer profiles, geo tagging has some neat features to view where you or friends have taken a photo, can add backgrounds to the lock screen, etc etc. Nothing really ground breaking but I find it to be a fun device.
One thing to note is battery use in my screen shots was with out using battery saving mode. The only app I have used that may contribute to my up time is Booster. Its a nice little app for keeping programs from staying on and has a time threshold for when it should kill apps. Fairly simple to set up and has a few other nice options.

Welcome to the forums. I'm a former Atrix 2 owner myself. I find the Ion to be a more fluid and capable device. Sony did a fine job with this phone. ICS will be awesome I'm sure. I did run the Atrix 2 on ICS and it improved 10x. Sony did a better job with Gingerbread IMO. It's just an all around better platform in terms of hardware and dev support for the future as well. Read the Sony blogs for details. Great community here too! Almost everybody here is very positive, friendly and helpful. Congratulations on your new phone.

I'm with you Silas, I've been using Samsung phones just got the Ion, it resembles my playstation 3 in the way it's designed. My Ion is still stock, Samsung phones seem impossible to brick. I want to root this Ion, but since I'm new to Sony I'm reading over every thing at least twice.

Thanks folks! Yes, I'm expecting this phone to be a nice improvement overall. Lots of people are still amazed that I didn't go with the One X or the Galaxy S3, but I'm glad with my decision. Gingerbread on this phone does seem like a nice change from others. And I'm banking on that ICS sooner than later, Spectre!
I read some article at the Ion's release time saying that the capacitive buttons were hellish, and I've had exactly one issue with them responding since I got the phone on release date, and that was due to the phone freezing for 5 seconds (which, coincidentally, has also happened exactly once). As for flashing ICS, it's not at all difficult for someone of beginner or novice computer skill levels to figure it out in under an hour. In truth, it seems more daunting a task than the reality. You shouldn't have any problems with it, but if you do, there are more than a few kind members of the Ion board that would be more than happy to help you with even the simplest of questions, provided you ask in a polite manner. Congratulations on your new phone, and welcome to the community.

It's one of those things that after you do it, you kind of look at yourself silly because you thought it was going to be so hard. The main problem people have (I know I did) is with making sure that the drivers are installed. Also make sure you're using the correct tools for the OS you're using.

No, I won't buy it right now. Since the last android 4.1.2 (JB) many users (including me) are experiencing casual and frequent reboots (most likely due to the proximity sensor) and neither Google or Samsung are providing decent support or answers for this major issue (it happens very frequently during calls).
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37485
So delay the purchase or chose another phone; take in consideration a Galaxy 3 if you can afford it, but check in advance if there are outstanding major problems, or a Galaxy 2 that you can get for a cheap price, or an HTC.
You have been warned, buy it a t your risk because Samsung/Google support sucks.
Funny post.

I'd buy one. Mainly for the fact - 1. If the next nexus is the rumored LG one - It won't have a super amoled screen PLUS the GN looks better. 2 - Software updates would still be awesome for the nexus in spite of another one coming out. 3 - Amazingly cheap.
I broke my nexus on my birthday 2 days back and I'm thinking of buying another one. I had an option to choose between a Nexus, an S3, a note 2 and an iFag 5. I've used them all (Except the iFag) - And trust me, the feel of the GNex can never be beaten.

wow, basically anything you say at this point has no merit. You come to the nexus forum to talk bad about the nexus. You say 'many users' but I would like to see this data. You know this might be a shock to you but sometimes phones are faulty when they ship out and you likely have one of such phones. Contact support and get it replaced. I can only relate my experience, I haven't had a random reboot on my phone since I bought it in july. Also your speculations for the reboot issue is pretty random stabs in the dark, or just roll back to 4.1.1 instead of flashing 4.1.2 just because it's new.
Also notice every phone you list you talk bad about in your signature, im willing to bet its the hand that is holding your phones lol
Personally, the thing that's keeping me from jumping to the next phone is vast array of dev support. There's so many ROMs, kernels, mods (like PGM, trickster) to tweak and customize your phone with. Sure, the hardware is becoming quickly lackluster but in the end it should be the user experience (which can be highly tailored to your liking) that counts.
Easy to root and install roms, first in line for android upgrades for the time being and has adequate hardware. Not bad if you can get it for cheap. :good:
Buy it man, it still worth it, just bought it yesterday and hold it for 8hours no single lag so far, and you never found not working list on any rom
No reboot or anything, battery life still acceptable imo.

Wait until that ugly LG Nexus comes out then buy the GNex as the price will probably drop.

My comment has merit and provides, to the guy asking for support in taking a decision, a useful information. Since there are thousands of users with this outstanding major problem, I gave a suggestion based of facts. I do not speculate, me as well as other thousands users have come to this conclusion; we wouldn't guess if only Samsung or Google had provided an answer. BTW I already provided the info regarding this issue.
If you are happy with this phone, and you do not suffer this outstanding major issue, just provide a "BUY" opinion, instead of bashing others, and respect other community members.
Regarding my phones I've been a happy owner of the HD2, sadly the digitalizer broke for the 3rd time, the only reason to buy a Nexus.
The OMNIA is a crap phone ...yet another Samsung...
I'm not, luckily, one of those "fanatic" that feels enthusiastic about a phone only because they have spent some bucks on it. If something sucks, it sucks. So far is "NO BUY".

This issue seems to affect s significant percentage of recent phones. If you look at the link provided you'll see that the thread has been opened just recently and most likely this is the reason why there is no post here.
The other reason is that is someone should ever dare to discuss it here, blaming this marvelous piece of technology, he would be banned by Nexus fanatics, instead of trying to figure out a solution
GSM Nexus:
Pros:
- gets updates immediately and supported twice as long as carrier Android phones
- not bloated
- nice development
- can use on Tmo or Att
- decent price
- carrier unlocked
- good mid-range phone
- easy to root
- can use with a pre-paid sim to save a lot of money over carriers
Cons:
- old hardware doesn't run the latest version of Android lag free IMO, but does an OK job. Even overclocked it stutters at times.
- screen has good blacks but is yellow and grainy, will have to adjust it via root
- one of the worst cameras I have ever had on a smartphone
- wifi signal is garbage
- speaker is garbage
Sure, it has quite a bad speaker, dancing battery cover, for some not-so-good screen,... But in my opinion, it's the only phone worth buying. I have it for almost a year now, and I didn't have a single problem, it works like a Swiss clock. This phone is pure magic. Just buy it.

I don't think it has a bad speaker at all, using some apps such as Volume+ fixes it.
Battery cover: never had a problem at all.
Screen: no problems, using a kernel with color changer support makes it even more amazing.
I know that the things I've mentioned above are fixable one way or another but it's fair to point them out. Like I said, I wouldn't buy any other phone. But still, build quality is quite poor, tbh. And that's the only thing that can't be fixed by a simple app or kernel.

Optimus G pre order page is up!

Well, for the apparently small number of us that care, you can now pre order the Optimus on sprints website. I just placed an order for mine. Super happy to be ditching my Evo 3D. Now hopefully we can get some people together to crack the boot loader.
I just saw that you can get it for 149 on wire fly with a two year contract but I bought mine full price from Sprint. No contract for me.
just ordered mine from wirefly
are we supposed to be getting the phone on the 10th or 12th?
the 11th falls on a sunday
No idea...hopefully the 10th.

Sprint's site suggests that it should come before the 11th "Pre-order: Order online today! We'll charge your card for your phone and do our best to get it to you before others get a glimpse on Sunday, November 11."
Wirefly says that they are shipping them on November 11.
I'd rather save the $50 and order from Wirefly. What's 3-4 more days when you've waited 2 years?
Where's the white one??
Ordered mine from Sprint today in hopes that I receive it on the 10th, maybe even the 9th...
If LG doesn't unlock the bootloader, will it be hard for devs to unlock it themselves? Considering that i has the same hardware as the Nexus 4.
why get this phone over the GS3 or the GN2??? just curious, the Optimus G don't even come close to the GS3/GN2..

Uh yes it is. Every review compares it to the Galaxy S3 and says it is considerably faster, which you can literally see. Also, yes, I do concede that LG has made some bad phones in the past, but so did HTC before the nexus one and Samsung before the Galaxy S (the behold and moment were awful). Reviewers said this could be the rise of LG and I happen to agree. Great looking hardware, great screen, amazing processor, top of the line specs. It doesn't need gimmicky features like sbeam which require people to have the same phone (how many people do you know with an S3? If they don't have one, that feature is moot). Camera, I don't really care about, but reviewers said it is about on par with the One X and GS3. The date for JB isn't exact but they said Q4 and if I remember correctly, lg has been more accurate with their software promises than Samsung, who promised my device Gingerbread in July of last year, but didn't even roll it out until November. Smemo, who cares? And the Optimus has a very similar feature, I forget the name of it, but they've shown how in many situations, like in a call, you can press a button and write down a phone number or address for example. Multitasking is more or less the same. The recent apps UI is the same, unlike HTC's, and it also has Qslide, which is similar to pop up play, but you can adjust the transparency and opacity with a slider so you can decide which window you want to be able to see more clearly. No microsd is a bummer, but so is pentile and terrible cheap plastic build quality.
