Using ART vs Dalvik with Xposed Framework? - LG Optimus G Pro

Hi all,
For ones who run Kitkat rom, which one is better; using ART or Dalvik with Xposed Framework?
Please share your experiences. Thank you ?

ART does open and make certain apps operate much faster but have got to give up xposed because it’s doesn’t support ART. Improvment of battery life isn’t really that significant for me though but I’m staying with it.

Ya xposed will force the runtime to revert to Dalvik upon reboot if you have it installed.

Damn that's a hard choice....
Dalvik+Xposed+Greenify or ART

I always use ART, since it's one of the new things in kitkat, so don't want to miss it And Greenify is also great application which contribute to battery saving. So, I am currently using ART plus Greenify without Exposed.
But I really like Xposed which rich of feature and could improve our OGP performance

[Q] Will LG specific features be supported by CM or other mods?

The OG is marketed to have some unique features and does have some LG custom software:
Miracast
QuickMemo
Dual Screen Dual Play
Live Zoom[ing]
QSlide
SmartShare
Application Manger
Backup (Restore Schedule)
Calendar (Split View)
Car Home
File Share (Over WiFi)
LG Tag+
...
First of all, are any of these good? I have my own personal opinions, but I am curious what yours are.
I hate their crappy Swype knockoff.
Secondly, would these features even work on a CM or other mod?
Some of these are just apks, so I might expect them to work.
But some of them seem like more than just an apk, and would need custom support from the OS.
Do any of these LG features that are missing from CM have a quality alternative?
They will not work on cm because they depend on LG's framework. The apps are okay. Nothing I can't live without. They could potentially be ported or cloned but you can't just throw the apk in.

Since there are 2 res.apks in framework, do you think if we were to include the lge-res.apk some might work?
I'm assuming it isn't that simple.

Doubt it. We would have to remove the framework dependencies and add all needed files to the apk itself.

Damn, I really enjoy QuickMemo and Q Slide and wanted to see those features kept and in the case of Q Slide, expanded upon for use with any app . Maybe someday, I can dream!
Agreed.
I think there might be a chance that QuickMemo can still be added to a CM install.

[ROM][V20F][AT&T][P93x][NitroTNT v2.2] Stock-modified ICS [07-23-2013][UPDATE]

AT&T V20F NitroTNT Version 2.2
Based on V20F from HO!NO! (Thanks for all your work) and added Wind Kernel 3.7 ICS.
Additional thanks goes to mattman86, lyfkevin & kronicskillz whose work is also in this.
I made this with the intention making it as close to what AT&T would have done (without the bloat), plus make general improvements to the entire stock experience. One of the things I wanted to address was what some people have referred to as "LAG". I think I have addressed this nicely as version 2 has no perceivable lag. I also wanted to start addressing some of the ugliness (thank you mpsantiago) by restyling the icons to something I find more appealing. I look forward to everyone's feedback.
Status Bar icon changes:
KronicUI Mod....thank you Kronicskillz.....
4G and 4G lte icons made smaller (stock ICS had them way too big)
If you prefer the original system bar icons and theme download the attachment below
In future versions I intend to work on the cosmetics of things like the dialer app.

Thank you, no real development here just lots of experimenting and tweaking. I started this little project because I was never 100% happy with any of the stock versions out there and so this is the end result. Great battery life sleeps very deeply averages about 3% in 10 hrs at idle plus I also tweaked the GPS config file to eliminate my lock issues.

To port just take the /system/etc/WiFi contents from an su640 stock ICS ROM along with the boot.img file from the su640 version of wind kernel v3.x and it should boot and run just fine on an su640.

Looks great! just had to tell u this is the exact setup (- your icon/ status bar work) that I have been using since hono's release; even down to the launcher, Google now, wind, etc etc. Great minds think alike eh? Pretty much as close as we can get to a stock lg jellybean rom. That being said I haven't flashed but can pretty safely assume nitrotnt is crazy fast, incredibly stable, and one of the best roms for battery life available. I'm working on a similar cm10.1 based version now until WiFi is fixed on the official jb leak.
Edit: what app do you recommend for overclocking? Specifically the GPU both 2/3d. Also settings like ksm, zram, schedulers etc for best performance? I like to play around to find the best setups for performance, gaming, battery life, heavy usage etc. Thanks again

In regards to an overclocking app I just use no frills as I have no desire to oc the GPU. With that being said you could probably use CPU tuner or something similar. Since it has wind kernel it shouldn't be a problem. In regard to other settings I use what lfkevin has recommended for the ICS version of wind kernel (intellidemand & row) even though for the cm10.1 version he recommends ondemand and cfq. What the differences are I don't know I am still a bit of a newbie. . In regards to zram. I remember HO!NO! a long time ago recommending to not change those settings, but that could have also been in regards to cm9. I hope this helps some. I really am not a developer I just can figure out how to tinker. Best of luck and I hope you enjoy this ROM.

i have a few comments... first of all nice work not bad at all.
2nd i noticed that it runs much smoother with apex launcher.
3rd fyi MHL is verified working on this rom. (due to based on stock nature)
4 is a request, is it possible to add circle with percentage battery icon and the blue data signal icon?, also is it possible to make bluetooth go grey instead of white when not in use, and make it slightly smaller?
not a huge deal but the white is a bit anoying, also would be nice to remove am/pm from status bar as it takes up room and almost nobody needs it
overall good work nice rom

Thank you for the comments. In regards to the launcher, the Optimus UI is just my personal preference but if you want to use Apex just freeze the Optimus launcher after you install Apex so it isn't using any system memory.
In regards to your request it would be as simple as replacing the systemui.apk from HO!NO!'s v20f since I used his ROM as a base for this. As far as the AM/PM that will require modifying XML files in the systemui.apk so that is going to take some more time to work through those. For the Bluetooth it would just be a simple PNG file swap, easy enough. So I will see about providing you a modified file for that. Who knows I even might like it better . Thank you again for the critique.

thanks man, one other thing i noticed is that poweramp is crashing, i haven't figured out if its rom related or not yet, if you feel like it you could install the poweramp trial and tell me if it crashes on your phone, thanks again.
i noticed the bluetooth thing right away cuz i leave mine perma on, since i use my bluetooth stereo in my car and i can't be bothered to turn it off and on every time, i also noticed that leaving it on doesn't consume much power (atleast i dont think it does).
---------- Post added at 09:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:27 AM ----------
just to clarify i want the blue icons from CM cuz i use an all blue theme, icons, background etc, that's why i like the blue data/wifi/battery icons, if it's too much work to change them all though, or if other people dont want it, just don't worry about it i dont want to be too much trouble.
is there a way for me to just mod them on mine? ive never looked into it.
edit ----> i isolated the crash problem i think, it's happening to anything that uses sdcard, so i think my card needs a format.
- update, i can play media files off my sdcard with es file explorer, but not any media player that uses the system media scanner
- update i think the is the fault of an app i used that was suposed to rescan media.
i tried a bunch nothing fixing it so i'm going to do a full wipe and try again, i'm liking this rom though it has potential if i get it all working.
i got the crashing issue after formatting sdcard and full wipe and reinstall, something is amiss in the rom i think.

so the fix for this is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39845686&highlight=poweramp#post39845686
i believe, i no longer have the rom installed but i'm assuming thats it in case anyone else needs it. it's a flashable zip that removes some of the tweaks he did that cause some apps to crash like poweramp
I will have some free time Sunday, I think and will look at incorporating these changes. Never noticed the power amp issue because I don't use but I will try to duplicate. I will also install the fix to make sure it doesn't create other issues before I roll it out in an update. Thanks again for your feedback. I have been using this ROM 100% since I rolled it out and just love it. Just to give you an idea I have never run with a ROM longer than 2 weeks before installing something different and I have had this phone for over a year.

if you read Ho No s thread he explains the problem, not sure if u have those files or not but yeah.
where did you get the keyboard from for this rom?
EDIT--> i've been trying to mod the SystemUI.apk for all blue icons and circle with percentage battery icon but i'm having problems signing the apk i have to reinstall jdk or something not sure, the error i'm getting on verify sig is a known bug when i searched it.

[REQUEST] Custom quick settings as flashable zip

Is this even possible? If so, why hasn't it been done and would someone please get to it? This would eliminate my need of a custom ROM, and I could use ART, which I can't as long as I'm using xposed framework.
I was using ART for several days. Had to go back to Dalvik. Couldn't live without Xposed. It just has too many options. I can deal with a little worse battery and a hair slower opening apps for that kind of customization. I am gonna have to donate to him ASAP. It's a brilliant idea. I do hope he makes it compatible with ART eventually. I wonder it we started some kind of bounty thread if it would perhaps fuel the fire to make it compatible with ART...

ART or Dalvik

Androids new runtime ART which should eventually replace the Dalvik*
Has been recently introduced in KitKat as most of us already know .
What's every ones though thoughts?
I see a noticeable impact in performance and battery . Bench marks are also higher .

ART definitely does smooth things out even further and I notice the differences in gaming. If you don't mind having an occasional force close or some compatibility issues with some apps go with ART. If you want rocksolid performance with the possibliy with xposed stick with Dalvik. Not sure if they updated xposed to work with ART, haven't checked lately to be honest.

htc turned it off because prism doesnt work well with it, but if you replace your launcher with NOVA or another third party it works beautifully.

[Q] Is there a way to get all the benifits of AOSPA with Sense 6?

I really like how sense 6 is set up, much better than stock android even. I also really like how aospa allowed me to customize a lot of the visuals and screen management on a per-app basis. Is there a way to at least emulate Paranoid Preferences, Hybrid mode etc. while keeping Sense? Thank you so much!
Edit: sorry if this is incoherent, or just plain stupid. Finals have me a bit scrambled.
I think there's an Xposed module called App Settings which let's you do per app DPI and some other stuff. Never used it but it might do what you're after.
