Is anyone offering a repair service? Like so many others my Xperia play's touchscreen has become completely unresponsive and it has been in a box for almost 2 years. I really need this phone repaired, there is some VERY VERY important information to me on an un-updated application that can only be opened on this phone and I don't think I can live without it. I have researched online, I don't have the skills to repair it myself. =,[.
This has been causing me so much worry and stress. Is there anyone out there that could repair this for me? I can't post links but is the Xperia Play repair service from portatronics legit? I'll do whatever it takes. Any help on who or where to send it to is very much appreciated. Thank you -Oli
There are tutorial vids on YouTube how to fix it which make it super easy to fix. Does the screen look like TV stativ?

No, I don't think It's something I would have much luck at fixing myself. The unit boots up and appears to be fine. I can move around on the main screen using the D-Pad but the touchscreen is completely unresponsive.
Sounds like you need a new digitizer. Do you live in Canada?

Yes, I am in Canada. The portatronics guys in NY didn't answer my email. I'll try one more time before googling for someone else.

Thanks for the offer. The portatronics repair service seems to be defunct. I found another repair service from doctorquickfix (Sorry, still can't post links). $87.95 for parts and installation. I'm going to send them an email to see if the service is still available and if they can fix the digitizer.
doctorquickfix responded and said they can do it! I'll report back with my experience! :fingers-crossed:
Sorry for the stupid question but can't you use the pad to launch apps and move into them?

Yep you can slelect and start apps with the gamepad. Why didnt you just try it instead of asking tho. 87 bucks thats kinda expensive expensive. A digitizer is like 20 or under dollars. Hope all goes well.

I've watched the tutorial videos on youtube and I don't feel confident that I'd be able to dissemble something like this without causing permanent damage. :crying:
I know $87 is high. I've had other offers but I can't ship to India or UK. Has to be Canada or US only. This is the best deal I could find... unless someone volunteers
As for navigation with the D-Pad, you can navigate... but only what is on the first screen. You need the touch screen to flip pages.

If you will replace the anything inside the Xperia Play, be very careful while trying to open it up. I didn't have a plastic opener at the time, so I just used a screwdrivers, and there are mars everywhere. I even damaged the microphone inside.
Well I have no idea what your trying to open or do. But im sure you could find a browser on the market that would work or whatever app. The opening of the play is actually very easy and you need a metal or plastic safe open pry tool.
Although as for the screw driver incident how could you think you wouldnt damage stuff lol not being rude just asking lol.
The only part that is hard would be if you had to replace the flex cable which rips easily. The digitizer doesnt need you to touch the digitizer however.
But if you do it you NEED a safe open pry tool or a self made safe open pry. I suppose 87 parts included would be an ok price. Plus its always nice to have someone else do it in case you mess up so you dont have to go through the frustration if your not very techy.

Well this is probably filed under weird forum posts but anyway.. i dropped my s3 a while back and replaced it, all is good. But i have this broken phone sitting around, the hardware is 100% intact, but the screen is not functional.. its black and no touch functions work.
I was wondering if i could garner some kind of use out of the phone, maybe find some way to store movies on it and somehow get them to play on my tv?
is this possible without being able to touch the screen?
any other ideas for my brick?
Sell it and make some cash, someone will want it for parts or something.

PM me an offer. I know what they go for on ebay
If you are on stock you could get an mhl adapter and hook it up to your TV, get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you now have a cell phone as a media center. Not sure how well it would work but it's worth a shot if you really want to use it.

My friend has a tmobile galaxy s2 and his mom stabbed the phone right in what I believe is the Wifi reciever. There is corrosion appearing, and there is a terrible smell to it. The wifi radius is severely limited in zone, and wont read every network. There is a picture below, and is there anything I can do to revive the phone wifi receiver?

Physical damage can only be fixed by insurance claim. Will set your friend back 130 bucks. Now, the bigger issue is why would your friends mom stab a phone? Was he protecting himself with the phone from getting stabbed!?

XDA is great at fixing things, hacking and tweaking things.
but if you read all the threads here, you will soon realize 99.999999% of the things people do here are all software related.
You have physical damage done to the phone, there is really no way to figure it out..

If u have the technical knowhow then it's possible to fix it.. You could search YouTube and see what pops up in ways of some kind of tutorial /guide.. But if you are not the kind of person who knows how to do it then it would be way easier just to get it professionally repaired..

Its the fact there is erosion that tells me you can't just replace a piece. How far has the erosion spread? Had it got to the motherboard?

that component is eroding, and the back cover, the plastic one is close to having a hole into it.

Look up t989 teardown. It looks like that is not the WiFi module, but the signal lead. Seems like its part of the mother board I believe. None the less, if it's just a copper lead it should be repairable. Being exposed may be causing some shorting out leading to the damage and bad connection. Repairing may not make it perfect though.
I was trying to find a tear down video, but couldn't find one. What component would I have to change?

I have a ATnT phone in storage for a while. When I took it out I notice the LCD was cracked. Bad timing too. I went on ebay and saw that the LCD is only sold with the Digitizer. Is there any way I can just buy the LCD? If so, where?
Reason I posted this in the TMOBIL section because I will be using this phone on T Mobil network. I will buy an unlock code but I wanted to see if the phone would work as if it was design for tmobil network. Will 4g work a it should?
Unfortunately not.
Everything that I have seen and with the tear downs, it seems like the LCD is fused with glue or something to the digitizer.
They need to be replaced in conjunction with each other from everything I have found.
Good news is you can unlock it for free http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023709

think you need a new flex cable, you can buy one eBay for about £8 but make sure you buy the tool also to open your phone. You will need to try and find someone to open your phone up for you or carefully do it yourself and follow a tut on YouTube as you can mess your phone up even more like I have

Hello guys, so after a year of life my Xperia Play seems to have problems.
Here a video:
http://tinypic.com/r/2iikbrp/5
I guess it is the flex cable, but I dunno if it does this because it is starting damaging, or because it looses contact (and maybe doesn't need a replace, but just a look into where it looses contact and thus I should apply there something that keeps it in place).
What do you think guys?

Few other users reported same problem, and it was flex cable fault.
You better get another flex slider cable before it totally looses contact (and thus can be replaced in hour or two, if you know how)
If you don't know how to replace, ask around where you can repair it, so it doesn't suprise you when fail completelly

Rear camera is attached motherboard on it's own flex cable. Did you take it off when opening your Play? If yes, then probably you didn't put it back properly. Or maybe it missplaced.
Try opening again (just motherboard part and see is flex from camera is loose or something
