I had the original note and the pen feature was less than satisfying for the most part. Accuracy wasn't that good. i found that when using the pen it was 2-3mm off where i want to touch.good example was when i played the game Draw Something and every time i wanted to colour within lines it would totally miss. Wondering how it is on the note 2?

hi,
i'd say around 95~99% accuracy from my tests.

thats quite exciting!
It's a definite improvement! Much more accurate. Try it out for yourself when you can, you'll probably be excited by the improvement as I was.
I had the Note 1 for nearly a year, and I must say that the s-pen on the Note 2 is far far better. They have made a huge improvement.

Ever get false input? Sometimes with my note it will draw a line or interact with the screen when the pen is near the screen.

Yes !! I just created a threat about that to know if I am the only one...
If I go into the message application, 95% of the time, I am able to "click" on the contact icon without touching the screen but just by moving the S-Pen near to the screen.. bug or hidden fonctionnality ? :/
I'm between the s3 and note 2. Help persuade me.
I like that the note 2 is bigger, I will be happy to read my books on it (instead of, or in conjunction with, my nexus 7)..
Battery life.
Ram.
But what else.
How's the camera compare.
Is it too big?
What don't people like.
it's a bit bigger which can be a downside for some people, but other than that everything is exactly the same or better.
the cpu is an overclocked version of the one in the international s3
the camera is the same.
the battery holds 50% more, plenty to compensate for the bigger screen and adding a bit more usage time.
RAM is the same as the US s3, and twice as much as the international model.
the screen is the same resolution, but because of the better subpixel layout the note 2 has a sharper looking screen.
the size is an issue for some, but if you often use your phone as a computer/tablet the convenience of a large screen outweighs the inconvenience of a large device.

List goes on and on and on ................
Went to Verizon and played with both. Definitely leaning towards the N2.
What do you usually use the spen for? Feel like I would never pop it out?
I might be getting an n2 for 300-350 (used) ... But that's a steal right.
I use the stylus mostly for browsing and typing, and sometimes for notes(S note app) and drawing(colors!, and Photoshop touch)
browsing works better because small links are easier to click, scrolling works with smaller motions, and mouse-over events are handled correctly.
rather than typing, I use Swype which works very comfortably with the S-pen.
the included keyboard app also has swype-input(swiftkey flow actually) as well as a very accurate handwriting option, but I prefer swype.
several drawing apps have support for the S-pen, so they can respond to the button and can adjust the brush sizes or opacity based on pressure.
some puzzle/casual games can be very comfortable to play with a stylus, I play mahjong solitaire, Klondike solitaire, hextacy, sudoku, and collapse with the stylus.
some different game genres also work well with the stylus.
final fantasy III for example, or the music game osu!droid.
when I got the note 2 I already knew I was going to use the stylus for drawing, games, and browsing, but I never considered using any note-taking apps until I got a chance to use the S-pen with S note.
Why I think the Note 2 is worth getting instead of the S3:
1. Bigger Screen and despite the lower pixel density its not much noticeable.
2. Much Better battery performance (a very big factor)
3. Double the RAM meaning better suitable for future ROM upgrades.
4. Faster CPU although not by much.
5. Spen- very handy for some creativity work.
6. Better and louder sound on the external speaker
7. Housing and Display are easier to replace compared to S3.
8. More premium feel
9. @ Point 1- Larger screen+ lower DPI= easily replaces a tablet and suitable for ported Tablet ROMs.
10. Its the latest in phablet models compared to the S3 that has already been outdated by the S4.
Need I say more?

bushako: I find the difference very noticeable.
from a distance of 30-50cm I can already see a pattern like a chain-link fence on the S3(or any pentile screen) but on a Note 2 I can't see it's grid pattern beyond 5-10cm.
so I'd say the note 2 has a better screen, even without counting the bigger size.
Simply the Note 2 has more performance because of his RAM and CPU. It also have more battery capacity and the S Pen is a great feature to use. Because of that I use it in school and I great because the big screen make it easier to write. Another thing is the screen, it has a great resolution so videos and images look great. Web navigation is also easier with the big screen and with some mods you can use the multiwindow feature with all apps.

You will get used to, when I carry my Note 2 around many people say how I can use such a big phone but surprisingly you'll like it after you use it, and I can say that now anything smaller than the note seems small to me

Yea but I find that noticeable only if I focus hard enough and up close on the pixels otherwise the S3 has a fairly descent display. That is not to say the Note 2 isnt, in fact i find it just as good. My main problem with the low pixel density of the Note 2 is when lowering the DPI anywhere lower than 240, its when the icons start showing rough edges. Other than that, I'm quite happy with the both I think that although you don't see the grid patterns on the Note 2, it does come at the expense of slightly reduced clarity.

Hello all. I just got my note 10.1 2014. I haven't been able to play a lot with it but I just noticed a serious flaw.
If I use it vertically and go let's say to a long page and scroll up or down , then the right part of the screen responds faster and the page scrolls unevenly. If I move my hand slow up and down the page scrolls like a wave.
This does not happen horizontally where everything remains straight while scrolling.
It happens on everything. Long contact list , developers option menu, gmail widget etc.
Can someone please check that? Is my note faulty or this is common?
Thanks

Tested in Play Store, Gmail, Reddit Sync, and Tapatalk. No such issue. Little less smooth vertically, but no left/right imbalance.
Mine is very heavily imbalanced. Can this be hardware issue?

Couldn't reproduce it, neither on the standard internet browser nor on Chrome. Maybe there is a lot going on in the background. Can you Restart the Note 10.1 and see if the problem goes away?
yes, it's there. it's also visible on the galaxy note 8. if you scroll up and down you'll see a distorted text line. it's only when scrolling, not when reading so it's not really much of an issue.
I did a factory reset. Update to latest software. Etc. It's still there. And I'm not talking about distorted text. The right party of the screen scrolls faster than the left part so the screen looks like it's bending. When I stop the scrolling its fine.

that's what i'm talking about. a slight wobbly effect. it's just more noticable with straight objects like type. a guy posted a video on the gn 8 forums:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4-tKflikYY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. It's more noticeable if I have the Samsung logo on the right hand. So strange but seems that I have to live with it.
Thanks!

Ahhhh yes...This is a hard one to explain but I know exactly what you are talking about. I first noticed this occurrence when I briefly had the Nexus 10. It was really bad on that tablet. So bad it was to the point where I could not hold it in portrait any more. It was so annoying. I ultimately returned it for light bleed but blamed the screen "wave" while scrolling to an under powered GPU.
So after I returned the N10 I went back to my HP Touchpad with ICS to await the next great 10 inch tablet to come out (took a year). Anyways, I started to notice it on there as well!! But it was much harder to see. I did a little researching on the interwebs and its a hard thing to describe and search for.
I tested it on many tablets in store to see if I could replicate it and the only ones that had it bad were the high def ones with high PPI counts. 1920 x 1200 pixels and up mainly.
I did more research and from what I read it is the fact that there are so many pixels that when you scroll they all are not changing exactly accross at the same time. So as the screen refreshes there is a slight delay from the first row to the last row when scrolling.
Experiment time:
Warning this is one of those "once you see it you cant unsee it ever again" things.....have your note 2014 in portrait with the buttons on the left, find a website with a lot of text that you can scroll (reddit.com), now scroll up and down in a fluid motion going about a full page length each way. The pixels on the left side of the screen are slightly behind the ones on the right. I guarantee it happens on yours too....
There is no fix for this. It just comes with the territory when you start getting into big ultra high def screens. I'm sure in the future they will probably hash this out but right now this is what we get. But I will say the screen on the Galaxy Note 2014 is far less "wavy" than the Nexus 10. If you don't believe me go to a store with an N10 put it in portrait and scroll with that. It's pretty bad.
All in all the "scroll wave" on the Note 2014 is not bad at all in my opinion. I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one and it happens all across the board in varying degrees. I'm happy with mine just how it is and use it in portrait all the time
Side note: It's much harder to see on cell phones if at all. Not sure why but it's probably easier to see when you have a 10 inch.
Side note 2: When you hold it in landscape the effect is much harder to see because you are not scrolling left to right much it's up and down. But if you look closely you can see a slight "accordion" effect. Its the same principle but just harder to see. Again it's really not that bad on the Note 2014.
On a site note, I've seen that wobbly scrolling get introduced with a recent OTA on Note 8.0 so it's a software/driver issue.

Interesting....I can replicate it on many devices across many different hardware manufacturers though. It's like one of the first things I check when I play around with tablets. The constant is that it seems to be the high res ones and only in certain holding positions like portrait or landscape. But most of them do it from what I recall. I do want to try it on an ipad though...I tend to steer clear of those
Also with that thinking then my HP Touchpad, Nexus 10 and Note 2014 all have software/driver issues. Let alone all the ones in the store you can replicate it with like the note 8, ASUS tranformer infinity, etc. So then they all have bad software/drivers? I just don't think it's likely. Some screens are better than others with this but there seems to be a common theme here...high PPI count on large screens.
Bumping an old post, but has anybody seen any improvement with this in the last 10 months?

So I've had the Note 3 now for about a week and have yet to take the S-Pen out. Not sure why I haven't but what's the point? Is there like a Top 5 or 10 list of uses of the S Pen around somewhere? Or could someone give me a killer use of it that they use? I don't play many games, but would love to have it be a productivity thing if possible.
Thanks!
Action memo, Scrapbooker, Screen write are 3 great uses For the S-Pen.

Don't have my Note 3 yet but my main S-Pen uses on my Note 1 are:
- Drawing and writing notes in Memo
- Using it as a mouse for remote desktop and VNC
- Hovering over popup menus on web pages without clicking them
- Draw Something
Otherwise I don't really use it, but knowing it's there is nice and I use it enough to not want to lose it on a new device, so I'm sticking with the Note line of devices, at least until some real competition happens.

Bloon TD games. Very precise. Though I have a smartphone, I hate fingerprints on my screen so I use my S-Pen a lot instead of my finger.
I find S pen is super usefull when it is used as writing in asian language such as vietnamese, chinese...etc...

Hi Guys,
Recently reverted back to Android from iOS. I have had low end and mid range Android devices for development purposes as well as a Windows Phone devices all the way through.
Since taking up the HTC M8 as my day to day device, I have been noticing issues (teeth grindingly frustrating issues) regarding touch screen accuracy and responsiveness.
A prime example of this is when using a browser (Any browser, on both GPE and Sense editions). When making a pinch to zoom gestures, my fingers can move almost half an inch apart before the actual zoom process begins. I have tested this on a Samsung GS4 and found this not to be the case on that device. I believe the root cause of this problem is also behind the poor accuracy when typing on *any* keyboard (i find myself re-writing words again and again despite the larger screen size, you'd expect larger on screen keys would equal less frequent miss stokes...). Again this is not the case on the GS4.
I have used a multitouch testing tool to gauge some measure of response time and touch latency. I have found when moving points at any rate of velocity they begin to lag quite substantially behind my finger. I don't know if this is part of the same problem.
I am wondering if anyone could shed light on whether this is an issue with display touch sensitivity settings, something which could be changed at the kernel level or a limitation with the hardware itself,
Is it also possible that the same algorithm used to detect and handle touch for devices with smaller screen real estate is still being used and that the distances and tolerances for touch and gesture recognition are acting proportionally to the screen size.
Hopefully this is something we can fix, it makes the device tiresome to type with and feel clunky and unresponsive.
The screen on this phone has a higher touch response then the iPhone

If you have just moved from the iPhone, then this is a slight orientation problem ... and actually the M8 is the nearest you can get in terms of responsiveness to an iPhone, thanks to the fastest screen response time on the market ... for keyboard, you need to deliberately slow your finger speed down for few days and then you get used to it ... Screen/phone size also play a part in your typing because your mind can remember sub-consciously how much finger movement to do for typing ..
All the above is assuming you were an avid typist for long time on an iPhone

Thanks for all the replies, it is likely that its a transitional issue alright. But before i write it off as such, can anyone verify the issues regarding pinch to zoom? Just trying to figure out if it is a faulty device i have on my hands or not
I get the exactly the same issues. I really thought it was me .
However I had the HTC One M7 and had no issue whatsoever.
LG G2 also same no issues .But since getting
HTC One M8, the touch accuracy is well absolutely useless. I am forever correcting what I type.
I don't think its the hardware but something to do with the Algorithm..No matter what keyboard you use or calibration you do. doesn't make any difference
I am hoping that lollipop cures this problem..
My touch accuracy has always been great. I'd say that if yours isn't it's a hardware problem.

I tried the m8 and iphone 6 instore and compared them. The m8 screen is very sensitive, requiring minimal touch to be activated. This may be why tests are showing that the m8 has a faster touch response. However, when dragging your finger along the screen, such as swiping launcher screens, the iphone is more responsive.
I then tested "show touches" on the m8, the touch lags behind my finger.
