Pre-Gingerbread Roms - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I think that (for nostalgia purposes) it would be cool to have pre gb Roms like cupcake, doughnut, eclair, or froyo.
I don't know if the source code is availiable, but it would be awesome to have a Petit Four (1.1).
I don't know if this is possible, but it really would be cool to see.

Not really possible or worth it in my opinion.

Wouldnt it be easier just to theme it over a GB or ICS Rom?

Also, before Froyo (2.2) there was no multi touch/pinch to zoom. The farther you go back the more features you're cutting out. Gingerbread is personally the farthest back I would run and that's only for nostalgia as it was where I started developing.

Well, Sony hacked up a way to get multi-touch on 2.1 , but that was only exclusive to the XPERIA X10

Aside from the above responses, this device shipped with 2.3.4, so anything before that and the necessary drivers for the hardware won't function or will need to be completely re-written.

With 160,000 activations a day, there's a huge number of people waiting for the HTC Sense UI version of Froyo to show up. I know all of us here sure are. Usually, we have to pass on the random screenshot tip that rolls in, but in this case they are worth talking about. To be sure -- we can in no way verify that these are real, as anyone with a rudimentary set of Android ROM cooking skills and a copy of Photoshop could pull them off. On the other hand, a Froyo version of Sense UI should be in testing somewhere, and it would look pretty much like this (watermarks and all) if it were to show itself.
With all that out of the way, if anyone out there in the 'tubes needs a hand testing, or removing watermarks from a legit Sense 2.2 leak, just sing out. I'm sure we can find you some help Hit the break to see one more screenshot of the camera application showing off 720p resolution. Thanks Dan!

Oh! That does look interesting. I can see them being real but yeah; easily faked.

There's no guarantee of that. There were also functionally complete leaked builds of 2.1 with Sense for the Hero, months and months before it was officially released.
Regards,
Dave
maya and UDK are working on it if im correct
i know udk from diamond2 days, and if hes got it it should come soon.

Is the froyo sauce really needed?

Someone pointed out froyo was on the hero and they've never had even a LEAKED OFFICIAL build of it to work with...and now they're on their way to 2.3...
Is there something in the epic that makes it harder to port?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Nothing makes it harder to port, its just a bit easier to port things and upgrade kernel versions and such with the 2.2 source instead of pulling the initramfs editing it and pushing it back in and hoping you don't get a kernel panic. (;
Kernel panic!

With out source code devs can't make roms as custom they would want to be or they would be like cyanogenmod and be built from scratch work lots of bugs that need fixing which is a lot of work
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Previous hero owner here. I was running cyanogenmod 6.1 on my hero but it took a long time for it to be a daily driver. Hero never had 2.2 but yeah after a lot of hard work they got it working. We have a cyanogenmod build coming for the epic but yeah it is gonna take some time to polish it up. Either way I am very happy with my epic even on 2.1.
I don't need froyo (or any other update) for any reason other than to patch vulnerabilities...which are currently unpatched.
The more powerful these phones become, the greater chance for them to become a target for malware. A botnet of mobile phones might serve as a wakeup call for the carriers.

thanx for the share
Is anyone willing to try out this live wallpaper? nemuro and I wrote this, and it should work perfectly even on the G1 (provided you have Eclair and above, of course)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975413
tried it but it too pixel-y
Too pixely? Can you be a bit more specific?
I'm asking because we did fix quite a bit of stuff over the last 24 hours.
Is this, for example, better? I use a MT3G myself so whatever feedback you give me helps me make the LWP look better on my phone, too...

Change 'Option Menu' colour

Anyone know how I can change the Android 'option menu' colour from the default 'white' to 'black' found on the Stock Gingerbread rom?

Note: I couldn't find/wasn't bothered finding a default launcher option as an example.
I'm rather looking for a patch of some sort without any heavy modifications.
Many Thanks
Hmm, i guess there's isn't an easy way...you have to edit the framework in order to obtain that. Why don't you just upgarade to 2.3? There's plenty of gb roms up and running, stable like stock (e.g. Leedroid 3.0.7)

Thanks for your response.
I am using a custom Gingerbread 2.3 rom (RCMixS) but this modification isn't implemented. I guess I just leave it.

Asked in the corresponding thread for your rom? If not, do it.
I'd like to know what file to edit as well. I'm sure it's the same file as it was on froyo.

Flashaholic

No matter what from I flash and its been many lately... I keep finding myself going back to venums hydra rom. Still rocking it! I like paranoid but this one is more stable and I like its customizability better. The only thing its missing is hybrid settings. Period.
I flash, and always end up running Blazer 4.1 again. Ive since stopped flashing roms. Being a flashaholic with this device just isnt fun anymore. We need ICS. We need SOURCE!

yes, every single dev is switching to the gs3. there will be absolutely zero dev work on this device once the gs3 is freely available to all.
