?can you flash rom from sd card - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Quick question, can you install a custom rom from the sd card using twrp or does the rom need to first be installed in the internal storage before flashing? The reason I ask is that I was trying to install a rom from my sd card last night (brand new card) and the card fried. Was it a random event or is it not the right way to flash a rom onto this device?
Thanks in advance

[Q] Unable to install Roms after Changing SD Card

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone would be as kind to help me with a problem I am having with my phone or at least point me in the right direction. I currently have a rooted EVO 4G. Its one of the first generation EVO's and its been rooted from Android version 2.2. I have never had a problem with using any Roms before, but I recently lost my original SD card, (The card I initially used to root my phone) and for some reason unknown to me, the alternate card that I now use, does not allow me to install new Roms. In fact, every time I try to install a Rom with this alternate card, the instalation gets aborted, the exact quotes are:
E:can't open /sdcard/MIUI.us_supersonic_1.12.2_Eng_Deo_zipA_signed_naro k.zip(bad)
Installation aborted.
The thing is, when I had my original card (8GB), if I wanted to use my alternate card (32GB) I would flash a Rom using the original card, and after flashing, use the 32GB card for the storage space. So I am assuming this it is not really a phone problem, just maybe something that I need to do or download to my alternate SD card (32GB).
One more thing, I was recently able to install a HTC EVO Sense Rom using the alternate card (32GB) Unfortunately, I am not able to install any ASOP Roms on this card.
Thank You in advance.
Did you try formatting the sd card? Also, it's possible the card is just bad too.

When I first purchased the card, I initially partitioned the card using Rom Manger, but I don't think that I have specifically formatted the card. Is there a formatting instruction page that you can point me to, or do you have instructions of how I should go about formatting my SD Card?
You can either format the SD card while in recovery or when on windows. Just format it then throw roms back on the SD card then wipe wipe wipe and flash away.

When you go to "install from sd card" are you seeing two options(should be first and last) for install from card or install from phone storage? I ask because there are two different CWMs out there.
What he means is that the new versions of cw would not support External SD even when u try to mount then.
For flashing Rom I recommend internal SD if that's what you are trying to do.
CW Touch 5.8.4.9. No ExSd
Last time just to see the difference I flash back to 5.8.4.6 and it those show both sd with out the need to mount then.
Hope this help

Like when you first format your card was exfat or fat32? I flashed MIUI rom to my Notell before and I am using 64Gb card exfat format and it works fine.

[Q] Partition SD Card

Just formatted my SD card and now wanted to reflash a new ROM. However, there are no ROMs on my card when I look at them through recovery. The ROMs are on my SD card when I look at the SD card on my computer. Do I need to repartition my SD card? I did a factory reset on my phone and now I'm in a boot loop. Please help.
Thanks

Ok,
1. Forget about re partitioning your card.
2. Use es file Explorer (or similar) to locate the files on your ext sd card. If you can see it/them then you know you are looking at internal storage in recovery.
3. Change to "storage: micro SDcard".
4. Flash away...

Can't flash custom rom on SD card

Can I ask a question pls, I don't know why but I tried many sd cards and many recovery and flashed stock miui still have the same problem I can't flash any custom rom if I put it on sd card I have to put it on internal storage to flash it
it give me corrupted zip if I put custom rom on sd card
Your SD card is corrupted may be or the phone can't recognize while flashing or it has bad format. If your SD card's condition is good then format it to 'exFat'. Then put rom into it and try flashing.
