Hi guys so I'm helping my friend's Note 2 to manually update it to KK via kies cause OTA is still not available when checking on 'Check for updates' (Yeah it's over a month now and the update is still not there! freaky sam****)
So our problem is the kies dashboard just displays 'Latest firmware' for her device and we cannot see any other option to check updates for KK on kies, that is just stupid :/ Her Note 2 is on JB 4.3, so my question is, is there any possible way on how to get rid of that 'Latest firmware' label on her device via Samsung Kies to be able to get the latest update?
If you're going to say about ODIN or any geeky things to do, she won't allow it lol, she's sick of that, she just wants to upgrade it manually over the kies.
Probably her phone region is on a place that doesn't have the update yet.. aaand of course you cannot change that unless you use Odin.

Only France and India got it via Kies or OTA. So if her phone ain't from those regions she got to wait. As you said she won't allow Odin so tell her to calm down and enjoy 4.3 lol

I don't think any OEM does that,do they?Anyhow 4.4.2 is seeding to south east asian countries of Philippines , Malaysia , Indonesia and Vietnam .Build # is ND4

And no, no OEM does that; but that doesn't mean they shouldn't! Over a month now, and still barely rolled out anywhere officially.
At this rate, it'll take them a year to roll out everywhere.

First of all, thanks guys for giving me time answering my stupid question lol, I've ran out of thanks and I promise I'll give you thanks back later!
So yeah why the fvck did samsht announced that they would be releasing the 4.4.2 update so early as last month if they can't even roll out as soon as possible? that's insane it's almost a month now and the update is not even rolling out here (btw I live in Manila, Ph)
I agree with @FloatingFatMan, they should have not told people what the REAL thing of the release schedule was :silly: talking about France and India, omfg lol we can now really foretell the future that it would probably take them for years to completely release the update world wide :silly: Google is preparing to release the 4.4.3 update and samsht is still smoking weeds to think about the update I wonder what will my friend think about this lol. I actually told her that rooting is the best thing that would happen on her device, encouraging her to flash CM11 on it but she's sick of these things haha, she's scared of bricking her phone lol but I told her that I'm the one that will gonna guide her doing those stuff, but it all ended up saying NO ahaha.

Well check the update OTA or via kies since you are in Manila.
Talking about 4.4.3 by Google I doubt it would bring anything major to phones except bug fixes that plagued the Nexus devices. The more bigger announcement would be at the Google I/O when we might hear about Android 4.5 or 5 ,who knows and this might be the very last update we would get from Samsung/Google judging by the 2 year policy of Google to support devices

Already tried that for a few times, still no response :| we've actually did some dumb shts on her phone like clearing the 'google services framework' (which is a workaround forcing OTA update to receive on Nexus phones) and we end up screwing her phone lol, still not working :silly:
Yeah I agree, it's almost a half a month now before Google I/O will start and I don't think that they will possibly release a bug fix update (4.4.3) on a short amount of time before they actually release a major update on IO.

it won't most probably.. sammy doesn't give more than one major update to phones which aren't flagships (S & note series- not Neo)..
we'll get KitKat within the next couple of months hopefully! then we will be dependent on devs for further updates.
PS- next android version is lollipop if I'm not wrong..

Android L with touchwiz, I don't think would be a great combination.
it will be updated i think
It will be updated to l i think beacuse it was launched in feb and there is google policy for 18 months and it was launched with 38k price tag and note 2 is discontinued at that place
n3n is selling it is not finalized yet but i will be finalized later i think take a look at screenshot.

it is good in nexus 5 and waiting for ours..
I sometimes wish that I hadn't bought this phone . I could never whole heartedly enjoy my phone since somewhere I knew there are very few chances of this phone being updated. I still wonder how samsung manages to still sell so much without timely updates for all of its devices. Not buying samsung again probably for the next few years until I see an improvement
Will stick to sony or Motorola or nexus series next time
This phone would no way get updated to Android L this year. May be six months from now in 2015 after Note 3 gets updated .
Even Nexus devices (Nexus 5) no longer get updates quick . It's all a matter of time
According to Sammobile and Phone Arena, Samsung is going to skip the 5.0.0 update and jump straight to 5.0.1. I'm wondering if this will cause a delay in us getting Lollipop? Here's the story if you want to take a look: http://www.sammobile.com/2014/12/17...droid-v5-0-1-builds-leak-both-to-skip-v5-0-0/
I doubt it will impact the delivery time very much

Then 5.1 is due in February to repair all the faults in 5.0.1....Honestly, this phone hardware is too good to be crippled by poor software. I don't mind waiting longer for a better experience.

The article states the Note 4 is skipping 5.0.0 and going to 5.0.1, NOT 5.1....
If we have to wait for 5.1 then that will seriously push the timeline back as the carriers will have to wait for 5.1 in late February and then begin their testing and modifications...

I'm aware of that. Just stating a fact, friend. Plus, my opinion remains that I'd be cool with waiting for 5.1 as Google has already found fixes for many of the faults in the as yet not available 5.0.1. Waiting till Summer = not a big deal to me.

To be honest, they probably had issues with Lollipop on the Note 4, therefor had to update it. I've seen this a lot with companies getting to far ahead of themselves. Let's just hope Samsung makes the proper choice before the carriers f*** it up even more.

Not sure where the "they had problems" wild guess comes from...
However, 5.0.2 is now available. Seems like Google is addressing any 5.0 issues reasonably quick. I have to imagine that the port from 5.0 development to 5.0.2 is not too hard. Intigrating the samsung code over whatever version of android is out at the time is more than likely the way it will roll. At this point it could even be 5.0.3 or .4
Has ANYONE gotten it yet? I feel like I've been reading "You should get the OTA any day now" stories online for a couple months now, and still NOTHING! I am curious if ANYONE has actually gotten it that's on T-Mobile in the US.

You can rest assured that if it were available there would be a version of it posted here on xda. When it is it will be on here within moments of the devs getting their hands on it or anyone for that matter.
Have you read the correct ones vause what ive seen says that us carriers wont start pushing anything till almost march
The Galaxy S5 got the lollipop 5.0 update in the USA. Thanks LG, while you're busy releasing the update for users in Nigeria, the enthusiasts in the USA are still stuck on KitKat... mine boggling......
Sent from my LG-D851
I'd not LG's fault. In the US the carriers test the software, have LG put their own software on the phone and then test done more. They are the cause if the delay, and with T-mobile they at have Wi-Fi calling so probably even more delay to test that.
Good to know, but I was wondering because I was going back to stock, but course leaving it rooted, but then there was an update. Was that the update that we're all waiting for? or is it just a minor update I think I saw something like 247MB don't know if thats correct but I was going to unroot my phone just to get that update, but thats not Lollipop right?
Alrighty then so... Thanks T-mobile....
Sent from my LG-D851
I think that tweet from LG USA was designed to put pressure on the carriers to hasten the release. Unfortunately for LG this may backfire on them. Most people think phone manufactueres are responsible for timely release of updates. US carriers need to add their bloatware and wi-fi calling in T-mobiles case to the new update. LG's part is done. Call your local branches and bug the crap out of them.
What is so great about lollipop? Xposed doesnt work with it among other things. I would not update even if it was available right now.

Just saw news , sprint is getting on Feb 16. We might get before that
So I flashed my phone back to the M version for our phone and did the OTA to R. It said the R update is only available until Feb. 10 so it'll probably be shortly after that.
Id think thay would be a fair assesment. So before mar 1 we could plan to see a roll out or at least definite word

I would think this means the update is hitting phones on the 10th or 11th. Normally they keep the old update rolling until they hot swap with the new one. I would imagine only hours of downtime for updates if they don't hot swap. Then again some people still haven't received the ota notification yet... Who knows?

Sorry to kill the hype, but afaik that date doesn't mean anything.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-otas-doesnt-mean-what-you-may-wish-it-meant/
And OTA rolls out in stages, that's why not everyone is getting the OTA notification.
HTC M8 is getting it on the 8th, so in this case the date mentioned sounds like it could be true

And yet there is no ETA for lollipop on the S5 (as for T-mobile variant). Judging the ETA for update for the LG G3 from the update intended for another device from another manufacturer is very immature.
Don't get me wrong, I would want 5.0 on my G3 asap, but I just want to point our that that date is irrelevant, just as the post from AP I linked suggested.

It takes as long as it takes... If you don't have the unlocked (the model that pulls it's updates straight from Samsung) variant for your region/country then your carrier has to approve the update before you get it.
Just be patient, lol.. I know it can be hard to do, but your not the only person who hasn't gotten the update. Spectrum Mobile hasn't given it's approval yet, so we still haven't gotten it. In fact we are still on the November security patch.
Honestly, after getting Android 10, there is not much excitements. I don't like the new gesture and I prefer to use One Hand Operation +. And I can't use with Nova launcher.
Force dark mode makes Facebook really weird and doesn't work on WhatsApp.
Other updates are just minor updates.
The only good thing for me is it fixes google messages rcs function

Unbelievable indeed. Most all other countries have it. I'm tempted to install 1 of the Android 10 ROM's that are already out "if" I can do so without having the base firmware installed 1st.
Well, dont be so anxious... Android 10 has some really annoying unresolved issues, it is already available in my country, but I blocked the updates, I am waiting for when all issues reported by many users are ironed out, so, in the end maybe it is a blessing for you that in your country is not available yet...

Android 10 just released in Australia this afternoon. Im on Vodafone with a Samsung direct supply device and just got the update by checking manually.
Version is N975FXXU1BSLA

Im glad i root it. I bought note 10+ coz of starhub promotions. And was disappointed not only official release is lack behind and trust me in near future too. But lack of third party roms kernels. Aosp havoc os etc. * U could use other countries csc or official release as long as same model.
