I just want to share this awesome free app that removes that annoying Voice mail icon from your status bar.
Before you start:
Must be rooted
1)Download clearVM app and click on Clear Voice mail Notification and boom the Voice mail icon should have been removed from you status bar.

Hi folks. I've got my Evo rooted with the latest damagecontrol ROM.
Everything was working fine until yesterday but for some reason now every time I get a text message, I get a notification from the original Messaging application in the notification bar. It does not go away even after I've read and/or deleted all messages. For each text message I have to hit clear on the notification bar otherwise it does not go away. I've searched online but haven't find a resolution on this yet. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I figured it out. It was the stupid "Beautiful SMS" widget set to show bar notifications and integrate self to Handcent.
Hi chaps, I'm using Cyanogen 7 (and also MildWild which is based on CM and has same issue) and what I'm wanting to know is how do I turn on the text message notification counter? What I mean is that on receiving a text I get an icon in the status bar but what I really want is for the text message icon on screen to have a count of unread SMS's. Currently there is no counter and the icon in the status bar stays the same whether it's 1 or 10 unread text message. Is there any way to do this and if so, where is the setting for it? Thanks.
No setting for it. You can get an app for the message counter on the Play store. Or use another messaging app.
Oh that's a shame because I love everything else about both of these rom's. I love 'Sense' but it was just too 'laggy' for my likings hence the switch. Oh well I'll take a look around the store and see if I can find such an app, cheers.
I hear that handcent is a good messaging app.

If I use a third party email app, is there any way to get notifications? For example, the Asus Cover App has an email icon on the clock screen but I never see notifications there. I am guessing that is somehow tied to the default email app which I don't use. I'm using AquaMail and I have looked there for any kind of setting to achieve that but have not found anything.
Thought I'd bring this up to the top one more time. Does anyone know if this can be done?
I'm not using the built in email app. However, I would like notifications to show on the clock with the circle app. I'm using AquaMail, and it DOES give me notifications, but they do not show under the email icon in the circle app. Can this be done, or no?
Hello,
Here is my problem:
I receive a SMS (or EMAIL, Whatsapp, snapchat etc... let's say a "message-like notification") --> I get an icon in the notification bar
I swipe down the notification bar and tap the notification --> it opens the message (according to the concerned app)
Then I tap home to get back to ... home^^ --> notification icon is still shown in notification bar.
I must swipe down the notification bar once more to make the icon disappear
Do you guys have this issue?
I use APEX launcher.
Thanks a lot.

Moreover there is an option in FLUID NG appl under advanced settings --> Notification icons workaround.
Solved.
Cannot find option te set notification sound in messages app settings. It is possible in general device sound settings but causes the same notification sound in all apps. Is it solution ?
Open your message app
Next tap on the person message you want to customize the notification sound
Next tap on the 3 dots on the top right corner and select custom notification and tap one more time to enter the customized field
There look for sound
Thats it
Hope this helps
Unfortunately when you delete a thread with an individual where you have set a custom sound, the sound goes back to default.
You can also use Textra App. Amazing UI and customization with that app. Support Dev with pro version to unlock other useful features.
Only if you don't use RCS (well I can't find anywhere that third party apps support it).
If your looking to change the message app notification sound it self then do this

Yes that's it.
I didn't notice in first look that "new messages" and "general notifications" could be double tapped with further possibility to set sounds.
Thanks for that and for previous posts as well.
