[Q]TWRP update boots only in TWRP - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I got a "system update" last night and once it was applied my gpad restarted in TWRP. It will not boot up into the OS.
I am running a rooted gpad with twerp and bone stock LG android(no custom rom of any sort)
I have looked into XDA and found similar threads but for the G2, to my understanding they are very similar in many ways but I would like to confirm that the solution I found is ok for the gpad or if there is another workaround:
If you have ADB access, plug in your phone and run this:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota of=/sdcard/fota-backup.img
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
Then you should be able to successfully reboot your phone via the TWRP menu option, or via a simple reboot command in adb.(<- what is the reboot command btw?)
It also gives a solution without ADB but it doesn't concern me. Does anyone know if this procedure can be followed for the Gpad as well? is there something that must be altered?
Thank you for your patience

Will not hurt to try
The comand is:
Adb reboot

guess so, thing is I have no idea what this code means and if its device specific to the G2. Just in case this makes more of a mess. Also wondering if flashing a custom rom on top would fix it

Thats no code thats only adb comands
U can try it with zero to no hurt
And yes flashing custom or even just wiping data would do the trick

appreciate your help I'll give it a try in a couple of hours n report back bed time for me

if you ve got official rom with root or custom recovery OTAs wont work and they ll semibrick the gpad like in your case. The safe methods i know is either using lg mobile support tool to go back to full stock or flash a custom rom via the twrp.

Right cause I dont like the ADB method I have tried:
Factory reset-Didnt work
Full wipe (dalvic etc ) -Didnt work
Tried to install a stock based rom(forgot the name)-Did not work
I'll try 1 more rom and then if that doesnt work I'll try the ADB business and if that doesnt work try to revert back to bone stock

okay guys this is getting frustrating nothing works.
I downloaded the drivers for the gpad again, and I tried to use the lg software to flash stock recovery, but it wont find my device. has anyone experienced something similar or knows how to resolve this its getting really frustrating.

I needed to be in download mode to be reconized by LG Mobile Support Tool (I downloaded and installed different versions of LG Mobile drivers too many times before to do the the right thing)
To enter download mode :
1. Turn off the tablet. (from TWRP menu )
2. Push vol+ and vol- same time. (both buttons + don't relase)
3. Insert usb cable (both buttons still pressed)
4. A small image DOWNLOAD MODE not so visible should appear on the tablet
5. Release both buttons.
LG Mobile Support Tool reconized my tablet and I could start the recovery (still waiting 1.5Gb to be downloaded)

It does work in the solution given without adb, from TWRP itself. Just tried it, no data loss, no computer needed.

New version of FreeGee used; stuck in CWM bootloop

I have done this before but I used what seems to be a different version of freegee (didn't have the option to backup efs or flash TWRP) so I unlocked my device and after it had completed I rebooted and then powered down. I put my phone in to CWM and flashed the stock debloated ROM. After flashing this ROM I was stuck in a bootloop. I ended up using LG Tool to get it back to stock. I thought it must have been a random once off issue so I tried again with Freegee, same thing happened, only this time no matter what I do I can not get LG Tool to fix the issue as it keeps giving me the error of low battery even though it is at full capacity. I then tried to use BC2 to flash a kdz file and I get the same error. I have since tried factory resetting, sideloading different recoveries, ROMs and basebands without boot. I have tried to use LG Tool about 50 times and it is not working. I have changed USB ports, reinstalled drivers etc, just keeps giving me that error. Yes I have set permission in the app and I am using Windows 7

Thank you, I will use that if I ever get LG Tool to stop throwing me the low battery warning. What a stupid program to not give you the option to bypass it. Surely there is a way I can do this. My battery is at 99%. I just flashing madmack hacked and lockified recovery and now I can't even get in to recovery to do sideloads. I am running out of options, my only way is to get LG Tool or B2C to work
EDIT* I have recovery back. GRR why is this stupid message about low battery keep popping up

have not tested this from cm rom but works from any stock. bytheway i have optimus G not pro
from recovery adb push rom.zip (your rom)
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/0
(0 required for cwm and cm10.2)
flash that rom
enable debugging
run lgflash tool one that supports large files or the online one it will pass the battery and auto restart in download mode there it will give error just unplug replug and retry and it will be flashed this time.

To anybody that faces the same issue:
in recovery sideload install madmacks TWRP file attached below
after that is installed flash CM11 using the same sideload
The command in adb is adb sideload (your file name in here without the brackets.zip) You must include .zip
It is strange because it didn't work the first 3 times I flashed the ROM and on the fourth it worked, so keep trying
i can fix bootloop to cwm or recovery just 2 minutes. but u have to backup your stock recovery fírst before install cwm or twrp.
so thiss step to solve after u have boot loop. that u need to restore back your stock recovery on mmcblk0p28 then reboot. you will stuck at factory software repair. keep ur fone connected with the computer and type adb reboot. then u can boot into android os. and final step. u reinstall your custom recovery again and Enjoy. this fixing not for newbie and im typing it on my fone. someone can make automation script to help People solve it im lazy

Thanks for trying to help. I am not running stock and can not get a stock ROM to work (with locked bootloader obviously)
LG Tool is requesting for a TOT file which the E988 doesn't have, I have tried using E98810D_00.kdz file in the software field but it is not recognising the cab file. The DLL file is recognised but I don't know what else to do from there.
LG Mobile Support Tool keeps failing on me due to low battery error which as you can see, I have been trying my hardest to get it to work. Battery is at 99% but it still won't flash! - I am stuch with a custom ROM and a dodgy unlocked bootloader due to the latest release FreeGee.
I tried the old file you attached but it fails to download the image file to unlock my bootloaders, I guess because it is already unlocked.
What I need now is to find a way to relock my bootloader that doesn't involve LG Tool/LG Mobile Tool and then try the old FreeGee app again. Or I find a way to get passed this stupid battery warning

First try to use LG Mobile Tool. All files and instructions found here CLICK ME
If that doesn't work the follow the instructions I posted earlier and it will get your phone booting again. As for getting back to stock and unlocking the bootloaders without causing kernel issues, I am still waiting for a response from Seth. He has been making a lot of changing as this is a known problem. The latest version is supposed to work like it used to now.

Thanks! This worked 100%. Something's really up with the freegee CWM, totally useless. Had 3 days of a headache till I saw this post. I used to be a CWM guy, now TWRP all the way...! The interface is touch based and much easier to handle than CWM. Best of all it doesn't go into a bootloop! Cheers! :good::good:

[Q] Persistent low battery error while using flashing tool

hi,
My phone is soft bricked and stuck at boot logo. I am trying to flash stock recovery/kdz file using flash tool but getting stuck at"low battery" error.
Could you please help how i can bypass this error? I have spend a lot of time online and tried few methods but always getting stuck at this error. I dont have any alternative phone and this is really disappointing.
I am using E988 India model.
CLICK HERE MATE. LET ME KNOW IF IT HELPS. IF NOT USE THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
I'm using same phone and have the same problem. I still can't flash stock with the tool but I can tell you how to get out of soft brick. Download madmacks e980 lokified TWRP recovery and also CM 11 latest version. Get in to recovery mode and go to install file (sideload) and flash the recovery first then reboot in to recovery again and sideload CM 11. When I get a definitive solution to flash stock I will let you know mate. If you have problems or don't know what I'm talking about then reply here. You well need adb installed on computer and open a new command window by holding shift and click right noise button at the same time. Make sure you perform this from the same directory as where there files are that your flashing. Once your phone prompts you to sideload type in to the command window adb sideload (the exact file name of the file you want to flash.zip) but without the brackets

Thank you very much for this help. I have never tried adb. Probably I shall now learn it and then try to do as you suggested. I am not particular about stock ROM. In fact I will be happy if there is stable cm ROM for this phone.
I juts bought this phone two days back. There are too many model numbers n am little scared now about choosing the right ROM. Do you mind sharing link for correct cm11 ROM please?,
Thanks again for your help!

[Q] URGENT: Flashed Wrong Kernel To My Nexus 7 (flo)!

Hi guys. I recently flashed the Glitched Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449919) to my Nexus, but I accidently downloaded the wrong one. Not knowing this, I flashed it via TWRP and now my device crashes completely (my computer won't even recognize it) on the lock screen. I can still boot into the bootloader, TWRP, and MultiROM easily. I just can't boot up Cyanogenmod (Only rom I have on the device as of now). I really don't know what to do. I've tried connecting via USB in the bootloader, my computer won't even pick up the device. I've also tried adb sideload a new rom and a new kernel, but I get the error 'protocol fault (no status)' which is weird, because ADB recognizes my device (I typed the 'adb devices' command in CMD) How can I flash the stock kernel back onto it?
Thanks in advance,
~NascarBoy119
Just clean flash cyanogenmod again if you have the Rom as .zip on your device. If not use ADB to get a Rom for flashing on your device.
Restore your backup (nandroid).

I can't download anything to my device. ADB sideload won't work also (I get the error 'protocol fault [no status]), as I stated above.
Also @wantabe
Shortly before this I ran Clean Master on my device. Turned out it deleted my backups... After that, all this drama happened. Probably kinda my fault as I used the TWRP backup feature instead of NanDriod.

adb is your friend. There is plenty of opportunities. You could download a ROM on your computer and sideload or push it in adb. You could also download stock images and fastboot it in the bootloader. Simple...

As you see the text that I put in bold, ADB sideload/pushing gives me an error. I might try the fastboot thing though but then I'll lose all my data, right?

what android version are your running?
anyways grab the gltiched kernel for your device this time.
then put your device i to recovery: up/down volume plus power when device is off
once in recovery type thus from your computer.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
you will need to extract the image from the glitched-kernel.zip
no this will not wipe your data. it is the manual way of flashing a kernel.
hope that helps.

Fastboot is your friend in this case, as long as you didn't relock your bootloader you can flash without losing your data.

Not using cleanmaster to delete your backups was a lesson you learned the hard way, but it is not unrecoverable and you can chalk it up as a learning experience.
Let us know how it worked out, everything will be fine as long as you take your time and relax. This is something that happens to most people sooner or later and is a great confidence builder (once you work through it).
To avoid this I keep all my backups, zips and other flashaholic stuff on a USB drive mounted using an USB OTG cable. You can mount it and use it in recovery.

gpad stuck on TWRP after factory reset

Hi,
I was on V500 JDQ39B and I tried to factory reset. After that it booted to TWRP now I'm stuck on TWRP v2.7.0.1. I've been trying to flash V500 JDQ39B again. It would finish flashing but it will not boot into it. It would just boot into TWRP. I tried flashing CM11 too, still the same.
I tried to Reboot - System but no luck.
Is there a way I can force it not to boot into TWRP?
Thank you in advance.

Please don't double post.
You need to find a KDZ file for your device.
Google for:
Code:
lg_imei_checker_2014_b
Type in the IMEI from your LG device into it and it'll find, if it's available, the direct link to the latest official KDZ from LG made for your device. The button at the bottom of the dialog will start the download. Then use LG Flash Tool 2014 to flash the KDZ in CSE mode.
This is all after you install the right drivers for Windows made for your device, and after plugging it into the PC and putting the device in Download mode, and letting Windows load the drivers. Sometimes a reboot of the PC after installing the drivers helps, too.

I can acces TWRP but MTP doesnt work.I have Oneplus drivers installed, I tried repeating the same command to see if the problem will go away.I have a TWRP backup on my PC,but I cannot transfer files .I also have a copy of Dirty Unicorns.Should I try to sideload it?Please help me, it's been a while since I used root and ... Thank you!
Edit.I wiped cache,ART and data and rebooted.Same thing. I reflashed TWRP , but still MTP won't work...

There's a whole unbrick guide here on XDA including the Qualcom tools to directly flash the partitions back. That should do the job.
@Chainfire I think I found my problem.I had systemless root, suhide and I tried decrypting my Oneplus 3.The result-bootloop.I am currently flashing stock. You might want to add this in OP of suhide.Cheers
Thank you guys I fixed it .Stock recovery--Oxygen os sideloaded. The problem was Suhide ( @Chainfire)
