Rooting ? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Just picked up my N7 had one 4 months ago but sold it. Anyway I'm still on 4.3 and have used wugs to root and installed CleanRom in the past my ? is should I root before I update or after or does it make any difference? Then install cleanrom or another ROM. Haven't been keeping up on the N7 stuff.

Some Roms come pre'rooted, but flash supersu binary after you flash the ROM.

If you are flashing a custom ROM it is already rooted, if you are going to flash a stock ROM then you will need to flash su after flashing the ROM.
And stay away from toolkits

How to OTA update rooted Nexus 7 2013

Hello, I recently rooted my Nexus 7 using TWRP recovery. I'm rooted on the same firmware I had since I got the Nexus 7. I have issues with both the touch screen and the GPS. I don't like having those issues. I am a begginer at rooting and hacking. I would like to update my firmware. I dont want to brick my device. Thanks in advance from all the helpers!:good:
To my knowledge you just need to reflash the stock recovery to download the OTA

I've had an OTA update since rooting. Used TWRP with no problems.

4.4 rooted

I'm currently on 4.3 rooted and want to update to 4.4. Can anyone point me to a rooted 4.4 so I don't need to wipe? Of course I have a custom recovery installed.

Side load the file that's floating around. You won't have to wipe

TWRP or CWM.. Both would work.. It's a TWRP backup.. Stock and rooted.
Just tap Restore..

[Q] CM11 not rooted?

Just recently flashed my GN with the latest CM11(1/20), but my GN is not rooted. I thought that all CM rom is rooted when installed (SU is installed).
Am I wrong?
Or, how can I root my phone?

You need to go into developer options to enable root or flash supersu.

It doesn't work. Also nexus root toolkit on PC doesn't work. It's still not clear if my phone is rooted or not.
May have to wait until the CM11(4.4.2) stable release.
If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

I'm on 4.2.2 can flash 4.3 roms

So I'm stock rooted if I flash 4.3 ROM well can I still go back to 4.2.2 and do I need to flash mk2 modem?

As long as you DON'T update the bootloader to 4.3 you can go back to 4.2. Just flash with recovery. You'll need to update the modem to mk2.

I actually just did mine too a few days ago.
Since you're already rooted, and you havent updated to 4.3, go to this link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612
Flash the modem onto your phone.
After you've installed it, you can flash any rom you want from 4.2 to 4.3 and 4.4.
Its as simple as that. I had a hard time figuring out what I had to do, but all you need to do is root, install that modem, and then you can flash all you want.
No good

"Status 7" when installing custom ROM

I have a rooted N5110 with ClockworkMod recovery and the stock ROM still installed.
The problem is that every time I try to flash a custom ROM, I get a message saying Status 7 followed by INSTALLATION ABORTED. How can I fix this so I can install a more recent ROM with KitKat?

Install the latest cwm... You're having that error because your recovery isn't the latest one.

I can't figure out how exactly to do that.

Use ROM manager to install the latest cwm. Its available in the play store
