4.4 rooted - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I'm currently on 4.3 rooted and want to update to 4.4. Can anyone point me to a rooted 4.4 so I don't need to wipe? Of course I have a custom recovery installed.

TWRP or CWM.. Both would work.. It's a TWRP backup.. Stock and rooted.
Just tap Restore..

I wiped cache, delvik, formated system, and then when I tried to install the ZIP. I get error 7 and it aborts. My phone is stock but rooted. I flashed my phone with odin for stock, not sure which verison of stock im using. I think the latest one.
Update your CWM to 5.8 or 6 or install TWRP and your error 7 will go away.

I don't think there is since you have to flash a zip file to actually root your system but you can always go back and install your stock recovery after your rooted

You can with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963812, but you won't be able to install any ROMs.
Thanks will look into it

Yes that link will work although i dont think there is a cspire version so youll have to use sprints. That said this will do what your asking as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017470

ROM incapable to OTA

I am in 4.2.2 and tried many times to OTA update to 4.3 but it always failed.
Looking in the ROM Manager first screen says that my ROM is not set up to receive OTA.
There are no other options as these are for premium users of the app.
What can I do?

Flash it manually via fastboot.

Well I tried to do so using the nexus root toolkit by Wugfresh but it doesn't seem to work for 4.3 yet.
My other option is to download the file from Google and flash it with the Gal.Nex. toolkit.
As you see I am not very good with commands etc and I am trying to do it the easy way..

OK you are right and I am going to do my homework tonight BUT...
Why the h... is it unable to OTA?
It's a completely stock jakju 4.2.2

something isnt stock. it could be the radio, kernel, some system file you modified.
When it errors out it should tell you where the problem is.

There are some system apps that I have deleted or freezed. It might be it?
In another thread here in xda I read that the device should be in stock recovery in order to accept the OTA update. Now mine is in clockwork mode.
Is this right?

Sigh. CWM doesn't stop otas, modifying /system does that.
If you removed system apps then that's your problem. You will never be able top install the OTA in any way

Agreed, why update, lose root, or go through any of that headache. A rooted flashable zip will be along in no time.
Thanks guys
