Official Google bumper case headphone port - Nexus 5 Accessories

So I'm assuming the official Nexus 5 bumper case from the Play Store is pretty popular. I was wondering how big/accessible the headphone jack is, since my preferred headphones have a very large, 90 degree connector (Shure SE215). Does anyone know if, with both of these left in stock condition, the headphones can plug in completely without being blocked by the bumper case? Bonus points for a simple picture if anyone has these headphones or ones with the same plug, plugged into a Nexus 5 with the bumper case. Much thanks in advance.

no yet, and hopefully not in the future, any way it's so early to tell, I have it just for a while.
Also, I think if someone bought it not from google play, it could be cheap fake.
By the way, the buttons pressure level in my case is no problem at all.

If you're looking for specific measurements, it's about 0.7 cm length wise, 0.7 cm width wise (at widest point), and ~0.2-0.3 cm depth wise (not including the jack depth obviously).
Hope this helps!

I have the same 90 degrees connector from Shure, and this case WILL NOT work. The headphone jack will not go all the way down, and the only way to circumvent this is to buy a recess jack. Apparently, Google didn't think about that when they manufacture the case... sigh. :crying:

[Q] Good Phone Stand For Galaxy Nexus

Hey all, I work in at a desk job where I am allowed to listen to podcasts and music all day so I use my phone all day every day at my desk. Currently I have the droid incredible that has the charging usb port on the left side and the headphone jack on the top. This allows me to lean my dinc against my monitor stand and put the bottom part on a gel pad so I can easily do things on the phone without it slipping down on my desk and falling flat. The phone rests at about a 110-120 degree angle so relatively vertical. This set up is perfect for me and allows me to have my phone right in front of my keyboard easily visible and accessible.
This leads me to a question with the Galaxy Nexus. This will be my next phone and my only gripe is that the usb port and headphone jack are both on the bottom of the phone which makes it so I cannot simply set my phone on the gel pad and lean it against the monitor stand. My question is, does anyone know of any phone stands that allow the phone to be positioned in such a way but have enough clearance on the bottom to plug in the usb cable and headphone jack? I have looked at a couple on amazon but they all seem to block the bottom still. I know the nexus s has a similar design so I was curious what kind of cradles they created for that phone and I like the vertical charging cradles but none offered audio out. I'm worried that will be the case for this phone as well.
Please offer your suggestions on a good stand to fit my situation. Thanks in advance!
I *think* this might work for your particular circumstance, although I'm not sure if the "flap" of the stand is going to block the headphone jack. If it does, you might still be able to use it sideways.

yep, and im used the sgp stand, and is great, you can find it on stg website.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have an elago stand for my galaxy tab 10.1 and love it. Unfortunately I don't think it will work for the nexus. I think the tab at the bottom would be in the way of the headphone jack .

I've also considered this mount. I am worried though due to the contoured shape of the nexus as well as the textured back. I'm not sure how well it would adhere to this. Something to consider though...Thank you!

Yeah, the official vertical charging dock would be a perfect fit, and it also has audio out.

Agreed. It would be the perfect storm if it was big enough to fit a nexus with a case on it. Oh well, guess you can't win them all...

This is the KIDIGI Desktop Cradle/ Charging Station customed designed to fit the HTC ONE X both WITH and WITHOUT CASES on.
The following are pictures showing the dock dimentions, shipping package (review unit), usb cable (Samsung?), and how the dock fits with and without a case on
REVIEW
Look and Feel
After constantly using the dock for the past few days, I must admit this: this dock looks amazing. Its form and design flows with the shape of the One X, and its borders are not restricting, but also curves to create round edges that really adds on to the look of this dock. Its construction is 100% plastic, but there is a little premium feel to it with its glossy lip and matte sides. Though I do not understand fully as to why there is a back piece jutting out so much, it does indeed provide the support for when the phone is placed on top.
Usability:
Advertised as the case fit version, it came with a plastic piece of adapter to be used when your phone is naked. The fit when case-less is perfect, with the polycarbonate body of the HOX just reaching the point where it would touch the plastic stand.
I was, however, very delighted to see that when the plastic adapter was taken off, the KIDIGI dock adapted all cases that I had, which was an OTTERBOX DEFENDER, and a Nillkin TPU case. The Otterbox when fitted, provided a very tight fit against the sides of the dock, where as the Nillkin left a little space, though both fit the dock perfectly. Thus, it is safe to say that any sort of case you have, would definitely fit on this dock.
It was a breeze to just dock my phone, and charge it, or simply to transfer data to my laptop. Though dock mode won’t activate by itself, this can be easily solved by using dock simulator from the play store.
Cons:
There was only one little thing that I didn’t quite like about this dock. When the phone was docked, it was quite wobbly. Yes, I know that the only link between the phone and the dock is the connector, but extra space around the front and back were a bit excessively left, and this happens both with a case and without.
Would I recommend it?
Yes, for the price and the amount of use it offers, I would definitely recommend this to any who is looking for a great looking, adaptable dock.
Feel free to ask any questions about the dock
This does look good.....

THAT is a good thing to hear. Have you tried watching movies while charging through that? Does the phone heat up? Also, how long does it take to charge through the dock?
So all it is, is a bit of plastic to prop it up, while allowing it to charge via usb?
Is there anything that uses the gold connectors?

Well, while playing heavy games it does heat up, but thats normal.

What do you need gold connectors for? You realize these are all digital connections right? 0's And 1's will still be 0's and 1's, even through a gold connector.
What you will have to consider is that the HDMI-cradle does not fastcharge your device, regardless what mod you make to your charger/cable. It disconnects the shortened data pins in the MHL/HDMI-path again, and only does USB-charging.
Furthermore no regular USB-connection is possible to your PC.
Expansys shipped the HDMI-version though I ordered the USB one. Been thinking about swapping it, because I need to fastcharge.
Re "gold connectors"... I think he means the pogo pins.

Touchstone MOD

I didn't want to Void my warranty by soldering the touchstone wires inside the phone so i cut open a micro USB cable and wired the coil to it. Much easier way to do it i recon.
Neat idea, though I'm not really convinced wireless charging is an improvement over wired so long as the phone still has to be right next to the hub.
Nice proof of concept though, certainly more user friendly than soldering.
Always nice to see a Touchstone mod. I wired my coil up to the pogo pins for a neater appearance, and to leave the micro USB free. Works very nicely as a desktop dock/cradle.

A very small piece of copper foil screwed up and pushed into the pogo pin recess was how I managed it. Not the most elegant solution, but it works well Top pin is +5V, bottom pin is Ground.

1st phone had Audio stutter issues and the vibration motor was making a clicking noise, Sent it for repair and returned it the same way. Not even the software update fixed the issue. The second one had Screen flex issues and capacitive button light leaked a lot into the screen. Third one has screen flicker issue mostly visible in grey areas. Software upgrade and custom Roms did not fix the issue. The 4th one's vibration motor was weak and did not work sometimes and the screen was loose from the top. Its like they have not used strong glue to stick the Digitizer to the LCD panel. My girlfriend has the same phone which she got on contract yet she has no issues with it. I guess i'm an unlucky guy when it comes to HTC. I should get my Xperia Z on March 1st Super exited

My case is both thin and tight to the back, and it will fit in there as it is, but it will leave a bulge. I refined this by carving out recesses in the case with a dremel for a better fit, and now you wouldn't know that anything is in there. I recommend using circuitry from the Palm Pre back case rather than the Pixi as there is a smaller circuit board to fit in.
Materials are all from ebay. I just bought another Pre case so I can mod my HTC Desire, and that cost me £3.50 delivered. Touchstone bases can usually be found for about £5. If you don;t see any on there for such cheap prices, then just wait a few days and one will almost always come up. Copper tape/foil is sold on there too, usually marketed as snail repellent.
A word of warning about the Touchstone base: you need a very slim micro USB plug to fit in the narrow gap. The One X lead works perfectly, but anything bigger will not be able to go through the opening.
Finally here's a diagram showing the thickness of the parts. Have fun modding

Hybrid case that has headphone port large enough for most jacks?

I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid. I really like its functionality, EXCEPT for the fact that I cannot use any headphone adapter with it. I use my phone with various plugs and none of them will fit due to the small holes in this case. I refuse to take my case on and off when I want to listen to music.
I need a case that is a dual layer. I want that extra protection. I like the slimness that this Neo Hybrid offers. Is there another case out there that would suit my needs? (i.e., allow me to use my regular cords to play music from different speakers and outlets?) I do not want to add bulk to the phone. So nothing clunky like Otter Box looking.
Thanks for anyone that chimes in.
I can tell you that the headphone port is no bigger on the 2nd gen then on the first gen of the spigen slim armor case. It's still to small. I may end up waiting until january sometime and get a case with a built in extended battery.

Yes, I got one of those things from Walmart as a "bandaid" right now. It distorts the sound quality. And quite honestly, I don't want to walk around with an adapter connected to my phone all day, nor try to keep up with it. I just really want a case that works!!

The problem is that in your case you'll be jumping off from the pro (Neo Hybrid/Slim Armor) wagon. Those are by far the best cases for the Nexus 5 and there's not anything close to that.

Came in the mail this morning and I love it! I felt like i was pimping, until I found out I can't use my head phone jack. How was this possible? Can't believe they would sell it like this. I love it too much to part with it. There has to be a better way.
I've been using these - known as AirBuds - sold exclusively online - $40 or $60 for 2 pairs, sometimes on sale for 25% off.
The inline buds has smart mic control, fit perfectly in the Spigel Ultra Hybrid case and another rugged bumper case that I'm using for the N5 - the foam tips offer great sound isolation w/o need for noise cancellation.
It works in the iPads as well HTC & Nexus 7 that we owned, and the flat cord is tangle-free.

This is incorrect, just basic run-of-the-mill (means common) jacks nothing special. Like ones that work in other cases with no issue. Its just this case is picky about using a specific size jack.

Also another big problem for us Z1s owners is that the camera and proximity sensors changed places. This means that any screen protector will more than likely cover the proximity sensor rending it useless.

I'm trying to find the correct official magnetic dock. Either sony hasn't released information on it yet or the Z1 dock (DK31) should be compatible. Can anyone confirm the dock situation for the Z1s?
My phones are around water a lot, and take a lot of abuse, so I wanted a well padded one. To use standard Z1 gear, I had to make several modifications to the case and screen protector:
Screen protector is a NuShield DayVue (for excellent visibility in sunlight). I used a hole punch for the FF camera and proximity sensor.
The case needed holes drilled for the headphone jack and the rear microphone. The sides needed cutting for the USB charging port and/or a magnetic charging cable, which needs to be inserted with the logo up and cable leading down (pins are different sizes) I haven't had much luck with the charging cable so far. I couldn't find a strap that would fit the strap hole, but used a few rounds of 50# test monofilament to make a loop for a neck strap. It's not the neatest job, but it has already saved the day a couple of times!
I have two docks on order, but haven't received them yet.

Any international Z1 dock should work as long as its the open ended type. The only difference in size between the z1 and the z1s is length (z1s slightly taller).
Now, where can we get a tempered glass protector? My biggest concern with all these carrier variants is the lack of aftermarket accessory support!

I believe that the Z1s a screen protector already on it when we purchased it. If you look closely at the edge, you can just barely make out that there's one on it. It's not exactly a scratch proof one though, but for now it'll do. There's one on the back as well.
Also, for those who want screen protectors, I've personally used XtremeGuard in the past. They're a little like Skinomi but cheaper. I bought 2 full body ones for the Z1s for like $1. Just use the 90off2 code.

I also ordered a Z1 (International) case for my Z1s. Will report back if it fits correctly. It's an all aluminum case, really hoping it fits. The headphone jack won't be a big deal since I can just drill another whole. Not a big deal that there are 2 holes on the top. If you want to check the case out, I thought it looked pretty nice:

I am pretty sure that case will not work since our headphone port is in a different location.
I ended up over paying for a Body Glove case with kick stand at the T-Mobile store. With the lack of selection available I needed to pull the trigger quickly because I already got some hairline scratches in the back.

I recently lost my Z1
I got a nexus 5
My girlfriend got a Z1S from T-Mobile yesterday
Tonight I will give her my two official sony docks, extra screen protectors, USB pogo pin, and a case( with the top exposed so headphone thing shouldn't matter)
I will test out and report back and incompatibilities or if it is all okay.
by the way the Z1S for TMO does NOT come with the DK31 charging dock like the unlocked Z1 did

Yeah, I was sad it didn't come with the dock OR headphones.

Again, as I mentioned, I'm not too worried about the headphone jack area. I'd just end up drilling a hole myself. I'm more concerned about how the Z1s is slightly longer than the Z1.
I contacted dbrand and they'll be making nice skins for the Z1/Z1S! Proof

I've tried two Sony charging cables and two generic docks, and while they "fit", and do show that they are charging, after twenty minutes or so, I get the same error message, saying that the battery is discharging faster than the charger can keep up. (I've also tried the usb cable in several different AC>USB plugs and with a PC... No luck with any of them. YMMV
