Hey Guys,
New of the forum here. For the past few days, I have been trying to install a custom rom on my Xperia S which I bought in Hong Kong about 2 years ago. I also had it updated to JB .96 version.
I read the forums as much as I could and firstly tried to root the phone. I couldn't determine if I had a locked or unlocked bootloader. I used this rooting guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417672
by doomlord
and then I moved on to installing a recovery which was also following doomlords guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2308493&highlight=adb+server
After having done this, I wanted to install PureSlim KitKat on my Xperia S which I found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606528&highlight=flash
But once I got into the recovery of CWM and selected to install the zip file, after installation it says that it will reboot device but it doesn't. I tried to manually start the phone but it couldn't start up. I can only get it to go into flashmode and thus I ended up flashing a ftf which I found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422053
Afterwards, I am back to square one and I repeated the steps to reroot the device and then I installed recovery again and then tried another rom, this time I tried LeopardRom which also resulted in the same problem of not booting.
I also use Galaxy S2 and have custom rom on that but I didn't expect it to be that much different for xperia S. I am willing to follow steps to resolve the issue here.

you cant install that rom because is for unlocked bootloader and you have locked bootloader, you need unlock the bootloader and install a kitkat kernel. When you finish this you can install this rom
Not all of the bootloaders can be unlock. My bootloader can't be unlock so I use a rom that doesn't need unlocked bootloader. The rom is existenz v1.35

i m new to this community and want to ask u that i have purchased a Sim Unlocked Sony Erricson Arc S..
and after using stock rom for around two months now i want to root it and install custom roms like CM9...
so i just want to ask that after rooting and installing custom rom my SIM UNLOCK remains unlocked or will it get locked again...
and i have to follow these links to root my phone (as its sim unlocked) or i have to take some precautions...???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
thanx in advance
most probably your sim will remain unlocked...if not, you can re-unlock it again....
could you elaborate whether you have an unlocked bootloader....
if you have, you can directly flash a fxp120/130 kernel, boot into recovery and install cm9 directly without having to root your phone (only if your phone is already on 4.0.4)
hit thanks if i helped....

noo i dnt have unlocked bootloader... n my phone is on android 2.3...
Though you have SIM unlocked phone. you will need to unlock bootloader to install custom roms.
You can unlock the boot loader for free by following Sony walkthrough available on the web site just search unlock bootloader Sony phones in Google and follow guides very carefully.
Or you use jinx13 xda member who does this but it's a paid for service.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
go thru sony bootloader unlock website.it will help you in unlocking your bootloader......(if you do it via paid service [test point method] then you will not be able to relock it again)
later download 4.0.4 and flash it on your phone using flashtool...
then, download the cm9 rom and paste it in your sd card
then, download fxp120/130 kernel and flash it on your phone
then, boot into recovery and flash cm9 with the usual steps...
check this out it is a super thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188

Hey guys, big time reader, not so much of a poster, since I read a TON. I will start with background...
Galaky S2 custom kernel Cyg/nightly rom/rooted
Galaky S2 Skyrocket rooted
Acer Iconia A500 32gb rooted/custom kernel/rom
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10 rooted
So I know my way around. My questions are all relted to my Xperia AT&T ION LT28at (already rooted)
after reading many MANY pages on unlocking the bootloader, I am lost.
I went to the official Sony site and input mu Mime code minus the last digit, and I got an unlock code via email.
Here is my problems, i do not have an off brand sim card and when I try to use other guides with the ericson flasher program, i follow the steps.
1. Power down phone
2. Hold down volume - button while plugging in usb to pc
3. Hold down the fastboot button while plugging in usb to pc....this is the problem....
step3 wont work. the sony code site says the fastboot button is volume +, other sites say its volume + AND Power. No matter what I try, its not working at all. once it connected for a split second and showed the window with the mime (sp?) number greyed out with nothing there and a row below for my unlock key, but the phone disconnected.
So here are my questions....
1. What is the exact procedure to enter fast boot mode on Sony Xperia Ion LT28at as soon as I am done with step 2? Buttons to press, power down etc.
2. I really just want Cynogen (sp) mod rom, do I absolutely NEED an unlocked boot loader for this?
3. I want to enable "Portable WiFi Hotspot" so I can surf with my tablet. Is an unlocked bootloader REQUIRED for this?
4. I am lov9ng that the cynogen mod allows me to add more rows of icons to the home screen, which is one of my main reason for wanting a new rom, I guess this is part of question 2. Is an unlocked bootloader required?
5. Can anyone link me to a nice tutorial for these two things? Installing roms/list of roms on a locked bootloader xperia ion lt28at? As well as one for if I get this thing unlocked.
6. Finally I could really use a good explaination, be it video or baby step by baby step to get this phone into fastboot.
And while I am here, instead of making 4 more threads in 4 areas....
Is there an official (or unofficial) version of Jellybean for....
Galaxy S2 i777
Galaxy S2 Skyrocket i797 (i think)
Acer Iconia a500 32gb
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 10.1?
thanks in advance and I am very sorry for the dumb questions, I guess we all get stumpped sometimes. Afterall I did root 2 other phones and tablets with new roms and kernels.
thank you!
You have a LT28at.....you can not enter fastboot as the LT28at does not allow unlocked bootloader. You don't need another brand sim that is only for sim unlocking not bootloader unlocking.
to answer your questions:
1. you can't since it does not allow unlocked bootloader
2. yes cyanogen requires a custom kernel which you can only flash if you have an unlocked bootloader.
3. Flash the LT28i generic firmware and you can use tethering/wifi hotspot without issue. (just manually put in your apns)
4. See #2 or use a different launcher such as ADW or one of the many others.
5. Just look for the locked bootloader supported rom you want - instructions for installing it "should" be in its first post
6. See #1

In your opinion, do you think that this bootloader would get unlocked? I wanna know before I buy. the same was said about the x10 by Sony but it was unlocked soon after.

how do you flash the LT28i firmware onto the LT28at? I have been looking for a post or thread with the instructions, but so far I have been unable to find anything... please help. I am rooted and was able to install a recovery program on my ion but I have yet to use it and I want to know if I can flash the generic LT28i firmware from there...

Look at the stock firmware downloads thread. It has a guide for using flashtool which is what you use to flash the firmware. Or since you installed a recovery (cwm I presume) you can use one of the prerooted stock firmware. That thread is in the dev section.

You can't unlock the bootloader of the LT28at at all.

Yea sucks about the boot loader deal. I am thinking about selling mine and find a Red H model of the Ion. PA on a Ion would be great and may still be kind of possible. I was recently running The Nexus rom for locked boot which was very smooth. In that thread it talks about per app dpi being possible with the xtheme that is installed. I have not tried it so cant say how well it would work. Xtheme also allows cm themes to be ported as well. Sure it would not be PA but it seems you could close with a bit of work.

You use flash tool to flash any of the stock firmwares. Or you can root and I stall a recovery to flash a tom based off stock kernel.

I am aware of that LT28at's boot loader cannot be unlocked
still from reading some threads i came to know that still i can install miui3
also i can also update it to jelly bean mine on is ics - pardon me if my information is wrong
except this 2 is there any possibility with locked boot loader ?
after such long time is there any discovery of unlocking bootloader or other methods to flash rom ?
thank you
Things I have done.
Rooted and installed CWM for Locked Bootloaders
Tried to install a rom but CWM was rubbish and it failed.
Recovered a .45 rom using flashtool.
Rooted and put CWM on again.
Unlocked bootloader using fastboot........
Once device rebooted it gets as far as Xperia logo and reboots, and reboots etc.
I can access recovery but its useless!
Whats my best step to do next??

#Check the status of your bootloader, like if its already Unlocked or Allowed, if its Unlocked then proceed STEP 02 and if not then Unlock the Bootloader First..You can search the thread around here on how to Unlock Bootloader. Dial *#*#7378423#*#* to check your bootloader Status. It will say Bootloader Unlocked : Yes Or Bootloader Unlocked Allowed : Yes or Simply NO.
# ReFlash your firmware with Flashtool & reboot
#Fastboot your desired kernel to get root access..you can fastboot your stock kernel back again if you dont wana use custom kernels. Both ways, u will still have your root access. My advice would be flashing SSpeed Kernel v08 or Advanced Kernel as both are updated kernels of current firmwares and the best CMW obviously!
# Let the kernel set in for some couple of hours
Hope it helped :highfive:

don't know if I should start a new topic or not since this is a few months old thread but I'm looking for a guide to install TWRP on Xperia ION with locked bootloader as well...
I know this is possible because I have a locked bootloader and TWRP on my Xperia ION right now...
I got the TWRP when I install CM10 for locked bootloaders by @MrGezz
I am on Slimbean rom now and I noticed that I retained TWRP even though I flashed a new rom... don't know if TWRP is baked on that rom or TWRP doesn't get erased even when flashing a new rom...
Anyway I want a guide to install TWRP because I want to try and compare the camera quality on an official stock rom and CM based rom, because I noticed that pictures taken from my camera started to get a little blurry and out of focus ever since I flashed a CM based rom.
And I think installing an official stock rom will remove TWRP on my phone...

You can install TWRP by Unlocking the Boot loader. But if you dont want to Unlock the Boot loader then you cannot install TWRP alone in a Locked Boot loader, But
There is another way. You can install Both CWM and TWRP together.
Try this CWM-TWRP Xperia ION Dual Recovery for locked/unlocked bootloaders
Follow the Instructions.

So I have the Trinity Rom installed, unlocked bootloader, trinity x kernel and a rooted Xperia S. I want to go back to the beginning, to start everything from scratch. Can someone tell me a step by step procedure to revert to the old system because the PC Companion won't repair it because of the custom firmware.
Thanks!
Download and install Emma(the sony developers tool). That can reflash your phone to stock firmware. Or flash an ftf though Flashtool.
Also, there is a sop on the xda website regarding relocking the bootloader if you want to do that.

I have flashed the stock kernel somehow and relocked the bootloader while still having the custom rom, I knew that my phone wouldn't go past the sony logo, because when I was installing the rom I chose bootloader unlocked so now I can't win either way. What should I do, still install emma?

OMFG, what were you trying to accomplish by those actions? Why relock bootloader? Only thing you had to do is to flash prefered FW via Flashtool.
