[Q] How to disable GPU rendering? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My device freezes frequently. I don't have a warranty, so I'm trying to make a device usable by SW.
I'm sure the problem comes from GPU. Device freezes during gfx intense situations (video playback) or overlay (eg. hitting search button in google play - it openes small overlay win with suggestions).
I tried to underclock CPU, but with no effect on problem.
I have root console on my device if it helps.
Is it possible to force CPU rendering? I think, it might solve my issue.

What causes lag?

What causes the occasional lag on the Nexus 7? With its fast cpu and ram it still seems to have more episodes of lag than I would expect.
Is Is there a utility that would let the user see which app or background process is responsible for the overloading? Some apps may not be worth having if they overload Android.
Or, since lag occurs after using the tablet for a while, is overheating the problem?
Something else?
Trying to understand. Thanks.
It's always hard to pinpoint what causes lag. You could run low on available ram then when something needs it, the system cleans up some older stuff, causing a delay in the action requested. It could happen while waiting for a minimum CPU freq to get to a smoother one. It can also depend on how the selected governor/scheduler are handling things. That's just to name a few.

Stop CPU overheating at boot (Media Scanner fix)

If you use CPU Temp monitoring (there is an Xposed mod) you will see some scary temperatures (+/- °80) coming from the Exynos CPU at boot, and it takes a while to cool down.
This is mainly caused by Media Scanner, the Android system service. It occurs with every Rom I have used on the Galaxy Tab T-700.
The best, and easiest, way to disable Media Scanner is with SD Fix Tool. Just use it for this function, I wouldn't advise using any other features.

Overheating when gaming

I am having a problem with the you overheating(?) and crashing the Marvel Strike Force game. It will loop the last few frames then finally return to home screen after about 20 seconds or so. The issue doesn't happen while outside of combat, and it occurs after about 10 minutes of play. It can be repeated in a shorter amount of time if already hot. How is it possible to overheat the GPU? Shouldn't there be sensors and a governor? I can confirm that this happens on multiple Pixel Cs. I don't think that this is the game's fault, but rather bad governor, sensor, or lack of cooling. I also have no problem running this game on the Nvidia Shield (aside from it not being on the Play Store for Android TV or some control issues when using a mouse), which has the same chipset.
I was having this same issue and I was searching for a solution. The one that seems to work is to enable Developer Options, then in Developer Options Turn on the option to Disable HW Overlays. This seems to have resolved that issue, however the tablet still gets super hot.
You can see the issue here:

Redmi Note 4 MTK Nikel overheat and Auto reboot after change thermal policy to 120c

Hello xda. i need your help.
as you all know that the redmi note 4 mediatek version is lagging alot when you play even only mid game processing aplication. when i play games for like 5 minute it starts lagging allready. what i know is that when this device temperature gets 45 degrees, the CPU hotplug will lower the CPU frequency or turn off the other CPU cluster to prevent the device gets overheating and drains too much battery. but this will cost out our gaming performance and cause lagging issue.
so i've modified the thermal policy to bypass the CPU hotpug to get maximum performance out of this device but it only last for 10 minutes and it auto reboots when it gets overheating, but i dont care if this device gets hot because it is common for a mediatek chipset
You can do it by editing the build.prop and change the line ro.build.type=user to ro.build.type=eng and then go to mtk engineering mode and change the thermal policy setting.
for me this device is like not capable of doing anything more than being just like an old device except for whatsapp and other social media. it's like the device has a powerfull processor but only for decoration.
The only problem now is that the device will auto reboot everytime it gets overheating and needs to cool down in order to be used again. and my only question is how to prevent the the device auto reboot when we use the 120deg C thermal ?

Question How to disable High-End-Mode on Red Magic 8 Pro?

I used Skyline to try out Switch emulation performance. In the otions i switched on "force max GPU Frequency", so the GPU always runs on full power. I was able to play Burnout Paradise in 1080p @ solit 60FPS. However, after about 15min the Phone gets hot like hell and starts throtteling the SoC. The Notificationbar shows a "G"-Icon witch says, High-End-Mode enabled, this will drain the battery faster and generates more Heat.
The thing is, i unchecket that option in Skyline but Android still goes High-End-Mode everytime i start up Skyline, no matter what I do. In the Nubia Gamelouncher I set CPU and GPU to ballanced but it didnt change. I uninstalled Skyline and reinstalled it, but still Android goes in High-End-Mode when I start the App. I know that there is a 4. Performance Setting on this Phone but its hidden like Dev Mode. I searched the whole Web but not even Google found something useful.
So, is there anyone here who knows how to get to this hidden performance setting?
This information would be verry useful, thx!

Try *#62742654# in the phone app, where you can make a call. This give you a possibility to enable and disable the ludicrous mode. In my opinion the phone should not throttle the performance with maximum cpu and gpu Performance enabled.
Damn, the code didn't work but seriously appreciate it, since I like to save battery in some or other way
