I am having a problem with the you overheating(?) and crashing the Marvel Strike Force game. It will loop the last few frames then finally return to home screen after about 20 seconds or so. The issue doesn't happen while outside of combat, and it occurs after about 10 minutes of play. It can be repeated in a shorter amount of time if already hot. How is it possible to overheat the GPU? Shouldn't there be sensors and a governor? I can confirm that this happens on multiple Pixel Cs. I don't think that this is the game's fault, but rather bad governor, sensor, or lack of cooling. I also have no problem running this game on the Nvidia Shield (aside from it not being on the Play Store for Android TV or some control issues when using a mouse), which has the same chipset.
I was having this same issue and I was searching for a solution. The one that seems to work is to enable Developer Options, then in Developer Options Turn on the option to Disable HW Overlays. This seems to have resolved that issue, however the tablet still gets super hot.
You can see the issue here:

Hello,
I am the owner of SGN since september.
I am really disappointed, because there seems to be a problem with 3D graphics performance: and to be precise with its FPS consistence. In some 3D excessive games (GTA in particular, but also Trials Xtreme 3, NFS:MW and other AAA titles) there seems to be a problem: there is a certain interval of time when a game works perfectly, and then for a few seconds it slows down WITHOUT A REASON and then plays good again. This seems to be particulary a problem in GTA games where the game slows down to a mere 4 FPS, and then continues to run flawlessly for 20-30 seconds, then slows down again for a few, and so on.
PLEASE help me xda, you are my only hope. Noone seems to have a clue on what can potentially cause this weird problem.
do you have force gpu rendering turned on? anything running in the background? what about facebook syncing?

First of all, thanks for Your response.
Yes, I did triet turning the force GPU thingy on. Doesn't seem to help.
I think background apps are not an issue since I tested my phone after formatting it and it was clean.
Facebook syncing? What do you mean?
If you use the Facebook app, it might constantly trying to sync. You said you had the same problem on a clean install though so I'm thinking that's not the problem
I bet that the cpu is at 70 C, and the Thermal Throttle enter in function.
I had the same problem with dead trigger (i found that it automaically set up the Tegra effect)

Thanks for the answer!
Yes, the phone do gets quite hot after a while actually!
So is this behaviour normal? And how should I fix this, if it is at all doable?

When the cpu reaches the thermal throttal temperature (about 70°C) it slows the cpu down so that it cools down. When it reaches the 70°C mark again the procedure repeats. So if you would turn thermal throttle off it shouldnt happen again I THINK. But I dont recommend doing that. Stay safe, keep your baby safe (gnex )

Well, I cant find these "power saving" options mentioned in a thread above. Can anyone help me to find them? Are they even present in SGN?
And how can I disable thermal throttling, just for the test?
And thanks for all the help so far!

Getting vertical lines on smt700 non rooted after over the air update (U.S)
After update I did a factory reset installed apps One by one and I started to notice a flicker of VERTICAL lines appearing at start of boot and also when batter is low it will freez slightly and do the vertical line thing before freezing a little then shutting off..
this only also with games...
Thanks a lot..

My sister noticed an occasional black screen flash after updating her Tab S 10.5 to Lollipop. I have the same model upgraded to Lollipop and have never experienced this issue but twice, once on KitKat and once with Lollipop I saw part of the screen look scrambled (like an old set tuned to a channel that WA not in range), for a second after hitting the home key.

Green flicker
Smt700 wifi screen flashes green and gets vertical lines....
Sometimes when the screen does this flickering it restarts...

My 10.5" T800 has been on for over 200 days and has never been turned off or rebooted since i got it, no problems at all with flickering, but the older you get the less sensitive you get, I am not a gamer so my tablet is not stressed.
If you are having problems get your tablet repaired or replaced.
John.
I ve the same issue after upgrading to lollipop, I cant find the solution
Still flickering
try everything to solve this flickering with vertical line issue.
Nothing worked..
Factory reset, disable hardware overlays and limit performance ultimately won't fix this issue...
I have the same issue.
Downgrading does not solve the problem
I have seen that it happens when battery is lower than 50%.
To mitigate the problem I have set seen brightness to 30% fixed and also losing mobile segnala makes the screen flicker or the tablet to reboot
When you rotate the tablet do the vertical lines rotate as well.
John.
All problems started only after lollipop update.well most of us are getting them,,random reboots, green flickering lines, grey bars etc,,
But the only available solution for flickering Is turning the power saving mode on which is what I have done
iam facing this issue with my t705
its not the lollipop fault
its an hardware problem, the battery connector socket
This happened to me before and after the lollipop update. Someone suggested to use power saving mode to restrict CPU usage. It seems as if the tablet goes crazy whenever theres a high cpu load involved.
I have the same problem after update to lolipop. Most often occurs when there is a lot of notifications and low battery.
In my opinion is a software problem, what do you think ?
edit:
8% battery, lot of vertical lines during using notifications center, tablet reboots - this never happened before (on 4.4).
[SOLVED]
Fixed screen flickering issue !!
did this by governing the frequency to not pass more than 1.6 ghz...
Rooting then installing overclock widget and setting frequency to not pass 1.6ghz. Max..
From what I know about chips ''they are not all baked alike'' the same chip could come out with lower stable frequencies ..
I hope this helps someone for it has 100% solved the screen flickering problem for my smt700...
Thanks...

My relative has complained of an odd flicker (screen goes briefly black) after updating to Lollipop. Usually happens while moving from an app to the home screen. I sent them instructions based on that article so they can test if it fixes their issue. I'll post the results but likely after a few days to make sure it actually works. Oddly enough I have an identical model SM-T800 on Lollipop and do not have the issue that they find so annoying.
Thanks for posting the article.

I've seen it on mine since Lollipop came along. In my case I get the screen with snow - like a TV tuned to a channel with no signal - . It's happened when the screen was timed out and then awakened. I've not been bothered by it more than about 5 or 6 times so I've just not bothered with doing anything about it.

Service center in Poland (CCS) replaced screen and repaired motherboard. It seems to be fixed.
I thought it was a lollipop issue, but having followed the advice to force GPU screen rendering through developer options, I found the problem did not go away. Thus, it must be a hardware issue.

Hello,
Did you try to set the default CPU frequency to 1.6 ghz... maybe even try to govern it down to 1.4ghz.
For my WiFi smt700 simply underclocking the cpu completely fixed the issue...
The issue is due to either your tab cpu wasn't from a set baked that could handle Higher work loads or quick raises in frequency like from sleep or switching between apps.. forcing GPU rendering take away resources from cpu and forces the GPU to do the work.. Hopefully an official kernel update could help with this in the future...
But for now under clocking the cpu or force GPU rendering or powersave mode all appear to help resolve the screen flickering issue and the only constant that I can determine is that these fixes all involve taking away workload from the cpu...
UNDER CLOCK FOR NOW !!
Thanks... (hope underclocking helps some members here)

That's interesting. Unfortunately, my device is not rooted yet and I don't plan to do that in the near future. So while I can use powersaving, I can't underclock. If there is a problem with the quality of the CPU, then IMO Samsung owes me a fully working device. I mean, they sold the device with the idea it was able to run at correct speeds.
yup, as it says.
my Pixel 2 XL get so laggy, I don't have any games or rendering applications that may cause that
I also noticed that especially after sleep (left it to default to 30 seconds)
I noticed this lag when I touch the fingerprint button, open a social application and even when answering a phone call
anyone can help me on figuring out what's wrong
Appreciate your help
Do you have "always on display" enabled? If not, go ahead and enable it. It uses very little battery.
how that impacts the performance?
https://www.androidcentral.com/pixel-2-xl-fingerprint-sensor-slower-after-81-update
I think he's referring to this issue which was addressed in the February update I believe. But you're saying there's just general lag after the phone goes to sleep/doze? If so, does it last forever or just takes a several seconds to pickup speed?
Hello
Recently I've gotten the razer phone and have experienced weird screen tearing, half of the screen wouldint update sometimes.
Ive noticed that this only happens when the phone has been left unused for a while and then when i tried to unlock it it would cause the scream tearing bug outside this circumstance it hasint happened.
I have set the hz to 90 and haven't experienced it since so it could be the 120hz that's causing it.
Anyone else experiencing this and if so anyone have any other solutions?
When I'm playing Clash of Clans, I get a weird tearing effect when a lot of graphics are popping. Maybe it has something to do with the game booster app or the custom refresh and resolution I have set for the game, but it doesn't give a good impression, for a gaming phone.
dont use any other resolution but the default wqhd one.
Hello guys.
I had some issues with my Galaxy A70. It's lagging like hell while playing garena free fire, my device can handle the game without any issue but I Don't know why this happens.
The problem is when I play the game first 2-3 minutes game works fine but after 2-3 minutes game starts lagging phone slows down and touch sensitivity feels really heavy even game controls seems heavy I can't get fine movement because of this issue. And when I close the game phone seems so much slower it takes 10 seconds to open an app.
And while playing a game when I open the game control menu and close it, game works fine for 1-2 minutes and again it starts lagging. I hope someone here can help me with this issue. Any advice would be much appreciated
My device is not rooted and I'm on android 11 latest version.
Sorry for bad English
It called "thermal throttling".
Most smartphone will thermal throttle when the processor got too hot. Try lower your game setting. This can reduce the heat on the processor, and thus reduce the lag.

I accept your solution. but I'm already playing on lower settings the game lagging also on lower settings. I've tried factory data reset and after that lag disappeared for 2 or 3 days and again after 3 days lag came back I only downloaded the game (downloaded game after factory reset)
I think it's not" thermal throttling " maybe some systems apps causing the issue? Cuz every system has high usage
I've noticed every system apps running at 100%high frequency everytime, I think that might be the issue how can I fix this issue?

Disable you game launcher because when your phone heats up ,it drop your screen frame rate(fps) and also decrease your volume that cause so much of lagging issue.
My suggestion was to use a custom rom to get best gaming experience
It could be anything but if it is related to hardware section u can do nothing. So first of all u need to tell us about the CPU. If it's low-end or entry level CPU u can't play anything on it.
If it's mid-range, I can help u.
I have a phone running on mediatek helio g85 powered by android 12
I face the same issue as you do because I did an update of my os. So don't update your os.
And you need to charge 100% everytime you play. You need to restart the phone or clear the cache of your game before you play. Don't use your mobile data because it will heat up your phone quickly and don't run apps in background like Avast, Facebook Messenger etc. Try to remove your back cover and hold the phone like near a fan and turn off your volume u will notice a big difference and take a break after 30 minutes to cool down and power off the phone and don't use your phone at night power it off.
Also lower your brightness I mean u can play at night time it will not heat up your phone
