[Q] Is it possible to use ANY app in multi-window mode if NOT rooted? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi all
On my Note 8.0 (which is rooted) I can choose any app on my device to be used in multi-window mode.
Can I do the same on the 10.1 2014 without rooting? If I DO have to root, is it more complicated than the Note 8.0 to root? (hearing all sorts of things about risky rooting thanks to KNOX)
Thanks!

From what I know you have to be rooted to be able to choose what apps you want in multi Window. And no rooting is easy as hell just look in forum on how to root. It took about 5 seconds to root.

Is it possible to remove the 'rooting' in case the tablet has to be returned under warranty?

You can remove, but you trip knox and the warranty is no good. There is no way to root and still have warranty.

Wow, I can't believe that. That's sort of put me off from buying one
And you're sure that none of the mega-clever bods on here haven't come up with a method of not tripping the KNOX counter...? (I thought anything was possible for these guys!)

You can always buy from best buy and get the warranty from them and if something goes wrong just smash the screen and bring it back. With there warranty they will replace it for free.

you should be fine if you root then put recovery on then make a back up.The stock firmware is very easy to put on with odin so there shouldnt be any problems unless you get a defective one.

With the app: Multi Window Manager by BJB, Inc.

You can individually mod apps to make them work. I saw it somewhere.

[Q] 4.3 official, need to root without tripping KNOX

Hey, as my Note II is still under warranty for a long time, I'm looking for a 100% sure way to root without my files getting lost and the KNOX counter going up.
Right now:
Fully stock Note II running 4.3 (N7100XXUEMJ9, updated via Kies)
What I want:
Rooted stock ROM and stock kernel, just to use apps that require root access.
Warranty not void
Thanks!

So currently, no "safe" way to root a 4.3 note II without raising KNOX counter, yeah?

I have PM'd a few Mod's who had closed threads concerning rooting without tripping knox, who from their post history at least, looked like they where in on the discussion on whats going on.. Nothing back from any of them yet (even asked for direction to the proper thread to get updates)
Sadly, as the last thread I saw was closed on NOVEMBER 6th due to IMEI and HTTP concerns, there have been 4 new release's for the Kingo software, and yet I cannot find a single XDA thread (admittedly 20min~ is about my limit for the site search engine) about if any of those 4 updates resolved the issues XDA had with the root tool...
I desire to simply remove the bloatware, not void my damn warranty... screw you Samsung for disabling the DISABLE feature for BLOATware...

Wifi issue - rooted - warranty - 8.4 pro

Hey guys
I am tired of Wifi Disconnections on my 8.4 - it seemed to disconnect constantly, ( showing me connected to XXXX all the time )
I have rooted the device and using custom rom
Now, I filled out the online warranty form for Samsung, its free UPS - for repair now
1) Does anyone have a full proof ( s/w fix ) for Wifi issue
2) How do I unroot and make it so that Samsung cannot detect the root and still fix under warranty
3) Any other advice or has anyone done this?
Did you have that issue before running the custom ROM . it might be ROM related

this could help for your second question:
- install Triangle away and execute it
- download your original firmware: http://samsung-updates.com/
- flash with odin (check NAND Erase All)
that helped for my "old" Galaxy Tab 3 8".
It looks like out of the box now.

You cant do anything to hide the fact you rooted it. Unless you used the new method, the warranty flag was set to 0x1 and nothing can reset it.

Towelroot. Is it working on the G3?

Did someone try to root the G3 with Towelroot?
http://towelroot.com/
Yes, it will. Even on the S5 without tripping KNOX. Just try it yourself, no risk involved. I haven`t tried it myself but i`am absolutely sure it will get you root.
Good to know.
I should get my G3 next week so I will definitely use it.
Thanks.

Just confirmed with my international D855 unit.
Works flawlessly. Tested with Root checker and Titanium backup.
Still dazed as to how this works... possibly the fastest root method ever! :good:

Appearently its a vulnurability in all android kernels that are build before june 3rd that lets the exploit do its work and install root during the boot sequence without beeing detected.
Yes. It's amazing. This guy have a great talent. He just left the iOS system and went for Android (He developed the iOS Jailbreak). Now Chainfire and other good developers here have competition
Working good

I've never worried about the 'warranty voided' stories. If software could physically damage a device then the device is poorly made. I had three different rooted Samsung that failed due to the 'sudden death syndrome'. They were all fixed under warranty. Never heard of anyone having problems with warranty on a rooted device - only urban myths!

Rooting has always voided warranty. .. There were just ways to return it to stock like it was never rooted.

Not with my rooted phones - any that died or had faults have always been fixed under warranty - going right back to the 'Hero'. If I buy a brand name Windows PC, wipe the hard disk and install Linux, the manufacturer still has to honour their hardware warranty under EU law. Same with mobiles/phones/tablets.
Maybe North American consumer protection laws are not as good as those here in Europe.
For instance, in the EU we can return anything we buy via mail order for a full refund within 14 days for any reason under the 'distance selling' regulations. Goods bought in shops or via mail order also have to be of 'merchantable quality'. As it currently stands, EU customers could obtain a full refund for the LG G3 as it does not work reliably with the Google Chromecast. This is probably why Samsung fixed a similar problem with a software patch when some of their devices had the same problem.

Doing so removes your root access (as you expect) but your device will still refuse to install OTA's

I think you need to reboot and run it again. This time for me, it didn't ask me for a binary update. Just started working. Try it.

OK so I can unroot with SuperSu, the only disadvantage is no OTA, and to unroot with OTA I'd need to perform factory reset, right? How to do it?
After Factory reset,
Do LG backup app restore the whole rom with settings and apps, please?

[Q] Just got the GTP 8.4. What to do with all this bloatcr*p?

Hey guys. So I just got a Samsung galaxy tab pro 8.4 and it's full of crap. I also read that installing a new rom will mess your warranty right? Will rooting it also mess it?

yes both rooting and flashing puts an end to your warranty
the first thing you can do which will make quite a difference is go to settings / general /application manager and tap on each one of Samsung's bloats - there must be more than 30- and see which ones can be disabled. they are quite plenty. disable them you will end up with a much lighter touchwiz
it is totally harmless and needs no rooting.
off course after rooting you can freeze all of them but first things first
oh and enjoy your tab!

I already deactivated some of them, but I'm a bit afraid of deactivating something I shouldn't. Is there a list of what I can deactivate?
I also installed nova launcher and the same icon pack I use on my phone.
EDIT: also, how do you add/remove widgets on the lockscreen?
It will definitely not remove the hardware warranty...

wut? the rooting or installing new rom?
Why not install towel root (depending on what firmware you have) then su pro and then install titanium backup and remove or freeze the bloat Ware. If anything goes wrong just reflash the original firmware for your region and all is good again. That's exactly what I have done mate and it didn't trip knox either.
The problem is that I heard that it eliminates all warranty..

Both. You'll find nothing that states this nor I the contract you so signed or on Samsungknox website. That's a myth.
And even if it was this wouldn't apply in Europe or in the US..
Was is removed is Knox warranty. Meaning that the device has been tampered with.

Knox is like secureboot with PC it creates a chain of trust from bootloader up to ROM. If anything of this chain is modified Samsung will not feel responsible for any software related bugs or software security concerns.
Hardware warranty is lost only if the manufacturer can prove that your software modification resulted in damage. Over clocking or playing wih thermal threshold are such cases. Rooting or flashing is not..

I could confirm that:
Towel root does not trigger any visual flags
Flashing a ROM (like CM11) does trigger "Kox Warranty Void" flag but not "Knox" flag.
So if one likes to play safe from ServiceCenter point of view, rooting is a bit safer option...
can't you temp root it?
then you can remove the bloatware and when you restart, you are not rooted!
