About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub. and on our Gerrit CarbonDev Gerrit.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.
Who is Team Carbon?
Find out here:
Carbon Team
Remember, every penny you send to us goes right back into the rom. It's used for hardware, server costs, etc - all the things that help us make Carbon better with every release. Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

Anyone having issues with their chromecast? Last night I was rewatching some walking dead and started another episode and the sound didn't work. Turned out that the phone had turned the volume all the way down. Just now was using it with play music and it stopped playing all together. Didn't have these issues on another KK ROM.

great work. now if CM can just get instagram video to work on his base all would be right with the world.
Tempting... Does anyone know if we can use the PA 0-Day GApps with this? Their FAQ section didn't say.

Yes, that's what I use with this ROM
so far so good
Rom is running nice and smooth with leankernel 9.3
no issues of note so far.
Where's release 1.8 for D2ATT
I tried installing the Carbon KK but had too many BT issues. I'm trying to install the release version CARBON-JB-v1.8-d2att.zip but the file is only 14MB long...of note, the TMo one is 97 MB. Anyone on the Carbon team able to help?
Thanks.
I keep losing service here. Also, it looks like my network settings keep resetting or not actually let me change them. Such as my APN and lte selection. Any one get this too?

Has anyone had bluetooth connects and disconnect problems with the latest nightlies? Seems to be an issue with all latest KitKat Roms.
there should be a list of discernable features so we can keep track of which ones are missing and which are still waiting to be ported, those that are a work in progress and those that are tough ones
How is battery life? Not trying to troll but I haven't had good battery months for months until I flashed LiquidSmooth, Now Carbon is on GS3 just curious before I flash to test
I'm using KK nightly 20140204_0827...have BT issues. Keeps disconnecting. Also not able to send or receive MMS.

I've wanted to create my own ROMs for a while since I had my old Evo but didn't get around to it. I know that the easiest and most common way for newbies is through the Android Kitchen but I've read that the kitchen is meant mostly for HTC phones and the initial list that I saw here on XDA (updated in Summer 2012) does not include our Galaxy SIII. It does include almost all of the other Galaxy models. I also read something about YAFFS having something to do with the kitchen too, that most high-end devices don't include this which is a reason why the program doesn't support our devices.
Anyway, I have read that there is a possibility that it was supported or there was a file that I could use for it. So I was wondering if this was a method through Android Kitchen or another way of creating a custom ROM.
Do some research on "Aroma Installer". Also, pm a developer of a rom that you find stable. Ask them if you can use their rom as a base. That is a great place to start. Even before you ask, just download a rom. You can load it on your device, modify it on your phone, and zip it up. Just do not post it for anyone else's use without asking the developer. If you don't want to use another developers work, start with stock as your base. I strongly recommend that you start there, gain some knowledge, do a ton of reading, and report back after. For the most part, developers are very friendly and willing to help. However, they don't want to teach you the basics or the lingo. I build my own roms, just for me. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you very much for the helpful post! I kind of figured it was just modifying existing ROMs. But I'll check out that Aroma Installer and see what I come up with.

I actually have an idea for you guys. If you want my help, I'm willing. Create an amazing stable rom, and create themes for the most popular NFL teams. Then, package it as the NFL lovers rom and include nfl apps and game watching tools. That's a big market.

I've seen these teams across various communities and scenes but I'm curious in what sorts of ways do each member in team contribute to the overall project? Is it like a construction site where you have a welder, crane operator, etc. where each person does a different job or is it something different?

well i look at it like this, Im the founder of Team Rejectz but this isn't a pyramid or some type of dictatorship, nor will you be judged for being new. we're more like family and all though some of us have our own projects we still look out for each other and teach each other what ever we learn or know. Its always good to know that if you ever need help with something, there's a teammate a text a way or call, to help you out and make sure your getting the right info and not some imitation developing.

Where in gods name is the source code for aosp? I searched Google, including the source and developers website. I don't even know where to begin. A little disheartening. I thought long and hard on it and I really want to make a Rom from source so I can start with a clean slate. I may need some help like every first time Rom builder. I guess it would help to join a team? I don't know where to begin with that either. If anyone can help either post on here or PM me. I recently read that development for our phones is slowly dying. I don't want to believe that, but if it does...I want it to go out with A BANG!!! Thanks everyone for your help! :good: :fingers-crossed:
Am I breaking a rule by asking this question? Can someone at least point me in the direction of a tutorial about roms. I don't want my hand held just to be clear.

Check out the chef central section for some guides. As for sources, look around at some of the development roms that include links to their github. You can start from their source and merge others into it to create it how you want.

Its open source so it should be that big a deal. A github is used for hosting open sources. Just credit where credit is due.
If there is any devs out there that aren't on teams already please tell on this thread. I want to make my own team of Devs. Tell me if your interested.
Please contact me.
Hi There, I'm interested in developing for android. What exactly are you looking for ?
I study computer engineering and would love to work on android roms
I'm also interested, i have some experience in modifying the source code and compiling android. If it's aosp based i can also maintain a Nexus 7 build if you like.
Pm me your gtalk. Both of you
...
so you just going to make your own group?
well good luck with that
most well known devs like to be independent
i know this from most experienced and famous devs

As most of you guys and gals know I have the S4 now. But I still have my E4GT as a WiFi only device.
So the reason for the new thread:
If there are any inspiring Devs or Themer out there. I can help by flashing/test your themes and builds. Now I can't troubleshoot phone or txt message issues but I can help with the overall build and theme.
I can also give pointers and help with install scripts. But one clear thing: I will not build you a ROM or a theme....only help or give a hand
I will do the best I can. As we know the Epic community is getting kind of thin. I know there are ppl out there might be the next greatest Dev for this community. And this community has give me so many things/mods/themes/knowledge.
I just want to help and give back to this amazing community.
If any other dev/themer/experienced user would like to join in as well, it makes it that much better.
If anyone is interested, can read up on what they want to do and is motivated. Please post here.

Q&A for [ROM][SGH-T889 / T0LTETMO][4.4.4][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 11 - Builds of opportunity
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][SGH-T889 / T0LTETMO][4.4.4][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 11 - Builds of opportunity. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Hey Coug76, appreciate you effort very much, applied the update but the build still shows as of 20141020 something wrong?

I'll check the link. I was rushing to post the build as I was heading out the door to a party and didn't want to post a day old build if I could help it.
Edit:
The link takes me to the 10-27 build. Are you looking at the kernel date or the ROM build date. I use ccache for building from source. It saves a chunk of time for building for common hardware such as t0ltetmo vs t0lteatt. If no changes to source code have occurred for the kernel it may remain the same. I'll look at it again tonight. I need to try something out anyway.
Something in a commit-fest on the t0lte tree for omnirom broke my builds and I want to troubleshoot it and get it building again. Checking on this issue will be motivation to mess with that as well.
rom 01-01-2015
just wanted to say i like this rom thank you to the developers everything is working for any one that has issue with the gps not working there is a gps toggle in the pull down settings that is set to battery save you just have to click it and it turns on your gps.
Cm 11
Why does the letters build say t0tleatt and not t0lt0ltetmo It's this the att build?
New Build
Hello Coug,
I have extracted the new build you have released and it is for the SGH-I317 not the desired T889. you have uploaded the AT&T version not t-mobile. I hope you will upload the correct one soon, I have enjoyed keeping up to date with your releases.
Whoops. Got in a hurry. I'm building a fresh one now. I'll upload when it's done.
New Build
Thank you Coug! Appreciate it Just wondering, would you ever make CyanogenMod 12 updates for t889? Liquidsmooth is the best I can find so far but there are too many bugs still and I've found your updates work best for my device. Just curious if you've thought of doing it?

I've been kicking around the idea. I've moved the CM11 builds over to a secondary PC. There is a different jdk version between Android 5.0 and previous versions. I prefer to keep things simple and build on separate installations so can fiddle with it on the primary box.

Spam much?
Real hard to get a answer to a straight forward question...not sure if that seems to be spam?! Posting in the Q&A resulted in no answer....is there a better place to ask questions about a rom? It can be so confusing trying to figure out what rom works and what rom does not and what forum to post in. Where should I post this question? I mean no disrespect and am very grateful for your work.

Small bugs
I've used the 0322 build of this ROM for a few weeks now and I am loving it. There are just some minor issues I've come accross that become a bit annoying at times. For example, the theme engine has a weird issue where the wallpaper component will crash after exiting apps and won't work until I reboot. Afterwards, the theme engine will have reverted to the stock wallpaper. Unfortunately, it seems to happen at random so I can't really replicate this issue for testing. I've also discovered that locking the phone after using the camera app without killing it, will sometimes result in a "can´t connect to camera" issue. And lastly it seems that while Google Now is always listening, when trying to display info it shows black boxes instead.
