I'm looking for a replacement battery door (stock battery) that is unobtrusive, doesn't reduce signal or GPS, and is a bit less slippery than the stock one.
I found one with pleather texture in black on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Leather-Housing-Battery-Door-Back-Cover-for-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-2-II-N7100-/190901629604?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item2c729fb2a4]
The ad states Fit Note 2 / N7100 global version only
I'd thought the outer parts of the N7100 and I317 were identical (so this might work), but maybe I got that wrong(?)
So, any idea if this'll fit and / or got a different replacement door that'll work. Really just looking for textured plastic like my ancient Galaxy SII.
Thanks!
I'd check further to see if it has NFC connects and if they line up - if that matters to you.

Ah! there's an NFC antenna in the battery door (and I'm an idiot for not having noticed). Sam did something similar but the GPS antenna with the S4G and the GPS on that phone was a constant letdown.
It also makes sense that this would differ between the various Note2 versions as they vary in radios, so different antennas.
Yes, if you wouldn't mind checking - I use NFC tags for some Tasker actions. I'm guessing the contacts won't line up, hence the eBay seller's comment.
Thanks!

Well... when I said "I'd", I meant "You'd" ...
But I will offer this - here's a similar listing for the stock back cover for the i317 (compare this to the picture in the seller's listing):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Battery...17-Grey-with-NFC-/130859205705#ht_2692wt_1273
Note that it has two metal contacts lacking from the international version. I don't know if that matters but given that they are integrated with the antenna, and the phone has corresponding contacts, I would expect so.
Maybe a slim case with a similar surface material would be another option?
Or you can mod your back cover.
Sand the back a bit and spray rhino liner on it ( it's grip)
Or use a fabric

Now my plan to mod the back a tad. I was going to use plastidip http://www.eastwood.com/plasti-dip-aerosol-11-oz-black.html.
I hadn't thought of rhino liner as I thought that was bulk application.
[edit]
Actually, I think I'll just sand it down with semi-coarse grit, say 300, and see if that's non-slip enough as-is.

So I thought the Gnex looked kinda boring as it stands (esp since there are no buttons on the front face), so I decided to customize my VERIZON Gnex a bit.
Before anything even happens, I want to find some parts to make it my own original design. Here are the things I'm looking for:
1) Brushed aluminum (silver) battery door; ideal design would be circular patterns that radiate from a central point (like the Acer Transformer Prime tablet)
2) A small Samsung decal in gray, silver or black (preference in that order)
3) A small Google decal in gray, silver or black (preference in that order)
4) A medium sized Nexus "X" decal
I would then paint my middle housing (and all buttons) the pearl white that's found on the Lexus IS 350/250. The back door would either be the brushed aluminum (silver), or I'd paint the original one the same pearl white and apply the Samsung, Google and/or Nexus decals accordingly.
Sadly, I've spent some time searching for the above items on eBay and have found nothing for my Verizon Gnex. Please point me in the right direction if you know where I could find such items. I know this kind of project is very popular (referring to the thread about the white housing), but I wanted mine to be a little more original. I have access to an auto body shop, so the painting isn't the main issue.
Criticism is welcome.

If there isn't a manufacturer already making them, the battery cover in aluminum could get a little pricey. You would probably need to have it produced as a one-off piece from a machine shop with a CNC machine. I don't know for sure, but wouldn't that much metal have a detrimental effect on your signal quality? It seems like NFC would have a hard time at least, since it's range is so limited already. Either way, the idea sounds pretty cool. Would love to see some pictures when you get everything together.

Aluminium batter covers already exist on ebay and they kill NFC entirely. That's the reason why they aren't that popular.
This is how they look for the international version. Does not work with the Verizon (i515) version though.

I actually dont use nfc at all right now, so its low on my priority list. However, i dont plan on having one custom made due to pricing. If anything now, i might make it full silver or pearl white with the decals.

you are nowhere near a point where you should be showing off. get at least some semblance of a finished product, then come back.
doing a mod that allows you to keep a stylistic part (the draco) by making the device look like something scrounged from junk, is silly. and that is where it is as of now.

Hey dude, get some automotive body filler. Should clean it up nicely. Model car putty should work too but i think the automotive filler will hold up better to getting hit. . Tape off the area you dont want to get the stuff on, Lay it on, than sand it, than id suggest spray painting the stuff to protect it, than it will look good.
Do a search on model car putty to get an idea of what it does.

I also looked for something like this, but found nothing. It's either a choice of a replacement back panel with plain flip cover, or a credit card wallet with a cradle.
The only alternative might be to adapt one with a replacement back panel, perhaps by fixing some credit card sleeves to inside of the cover. The hinge might not allow enough extra play for this though.
you can actually ask your local shoe repairshop if he can make one from the one you have. I think he can. Its a question of adding leather on the front so it still fits, an opening for bills and a series of slots to hold cards.
Do note there are reports of cards pressing on screen that could damage/leave prints on screen and on screen protector.
my experience not in making but in use is that the original flap breaks after a while. Not sure, but whennit does, it looks like cupboard lmao

As I suspected then. Quite vexing. Seems like such a winning construction. Keep it thin enough for your pocket, yet add the function off s wallet. Outside cards and cash everything from my old wallet is now in my Note.

Just bought my Note 2. The battery came half full so it's charging right now.
The first thing I noticed was the impossibly thin back cover and wondered how many people have managed to break theirs...
It'd be fine if it were made of carbon fiber, but plastic this thin will eventually break, no matter how malleable it is. For crying out loud, I've seen sheets of paper that are thicker than this!
How many of you have broken it already?
It's not going to break under normal use. If you take it off and bend it 90 degrees maybe, but it's not just going to spontaneously shatter on you.
Most people use a case so it wont break from dropping.
Ive never felt like it was going to break when removing or replacing it either.
As long as your not trying to break it, it wont break from normal use.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
The thinner it is the less chance it will break, crack or split.under normal use. I have had mine for just over 3 months and have removed it maybe 10 times. It still loks like new. You should be more worrried about the front anyway. A new case cost buttons in comparrison with the screen or digitizer.

Just a quick heads up for battery cover buyers:
The item listing doesn't say whether this cover contains the NFC antenna like the Samsung covers do. I know some of the aftermarket covers don't have it. Anyone wanting to retain NFC functionality should be sure and check this before ordering an aftermarket Note 2 battery cover.

As it's a metal back cover I don't think the NFC will work.
Someone posted in the accessories section saying they had bought a metal back cover with NFC, however upon testing it the NFC didn't actually work.
For someone like me in the UK though that's hardly an issue, NFC isn't widely used here, the only use we have for it now is if we want to use NFC tags, and that's about it.
FWIW, I have an Epic 4G that uses the same thin plastic back. I've had that phone for 2 years and there are no cracks, damage to the phone or anything. Actually looks pretty darn new, save for where some of the clearcoat is coming off around the speakerhole. Of all the things to be concerned about on this phone, the back is the least of my worries.
I'm having a hard time understanding the differences between these 2 Samsung covers.
What is the EFC-1G2NGEGSTA material? Is it the same as the non-magnetic book cover EFC-1G2NGECXAR? I've seen the EFC-1G2NGECXAR at Best Buy and wasn't really that impressed. It seemed kind of like cheap vinyl/plastic. Is the only difference between these the magnet?
I would like to know as well about this. Why does Samsung have different prices for what it seems to be the same cover?
So I see Samsung now has these in a many new colors. Wow. Well I used my 50% off coupon and bought the official gray cover from their store. Total was about $35 with tax and shipping.

Has anyone figured out what the exact difference is? I just purchased the magnetic one and saw some youtube reviews of the original. SAME THING! Magnets in the the same place. Same coverage. I just got off the phone with samsung and they couldn't tell me the difference. They say the magnetic one has more magnets. I don't think so. Also they say the materials are different. I'm not sure about that. Samsung guy also told me that they don't make the book cover anymore and this is the new one. Which is why they charge $10 more. In my opinion, they just relabeled the same product and made it more expensive. Can anyone confirm there is a difference?
So I stopped by a local best buy and compared my "magnetic" book cover and realized there is absolutely no difference. Size, weight, material, magnetic placement were all the same.
@dtziheucdavis if you're thinking that the magenetic one keeps the front flap closed it does not. (At least the one I have)
So now I'm wondering if samsung sent me the wrong one if there is a difference.
Any thoughts? As mentioned I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with samsung and after 3 reps later, all they could tell me was that there are more magnets and the material is better (not true through direct comparison). If there are more magnets its non functional.
Well, I just used the 50% off promotion and ordered the red one. I already had the gray 49.99 model, so i will be able to do a comparison as soon as it arrives. Also, I was able to use the coupon to order the s pen holder. It has good reviews on Amazon.
I just would like the option of the screen going off automatically when the cost is closed m or the s pen is re-inserted into its holder on the tab.

I received my EFC-1G2NGEGSTA today. It appears to be the same as the non-magnet one I saw at BB, with the exception of the magnets. Seems OK. I may keep it, despite growing to really like the i-BLASON I got from Amazon.
We shall see if the non-latching (or non-magnet clinging) cover is an issue. I kind of liked the latch on the i-BLASON and the extra padding the case provided.
Took one week to arrive from order placed to received.
EDIT: Really digging the fit and slim profile! I hope it doesn't suck up the scratches.

So the "front" cover has 3 sections (seperated by 2 creases)....a 1 inch or so section near the "hinge", a 4 inch or so section in the middle, and a 1/2 inch or so section. It seems that the only parts that stick are the 1/2 inch section when it is aligned in the middle of the cover back.
Hard to describe without picture, but does that make sense?

I also had a few questions for the owners of an official case: does the 2 positions (for typing and viewing) hold well? Will the tablet fall if I type a bit strongly on the screen? And also, I don't use the camera that much but it can happen so isn't it too annoying that the camera is covered when you open the case?

You have to know that samsung offers 20 € if you buy an official one, so it will cost you only 20 €

I received my red magnetic case today. I can say without a doubt that it is the exact same case as the book cover case. It has the same materials and functions exactly the same.
