On screen keyboard lag - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Have any of you guys notice that the SAMSUNG on screen keyboard lags when pulling it up from a text field? After clicking on a text box it takes so long for it to pull up the keyboard.

I'm noticed this too, a little annoying to be honest
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk

Me too. I started using SwiftKey and I think it's a little better. I recall the lag being worse while using the small sized floating keyboard. SwiftKey has that same option though, so I've been using that. Multiling O keyboard had a bunch of options as well and is free, unlike SwiftKey.

Yeah i notice it more on certain apps like chrome more than i do on other apps like tapatalk....tbh on tapatalk its rapid on mine but overall nothing too annoying for me.

Laggy keyboard

Does anyone have an issue with a laggy keyboard. It seems like once my message that I'm typing gets longer, its hard for the keyboard to keep up with me. I got rid of the on screen spell check to see if that improves the speed, but doesn't seem to help. I can type out a couple words before it actually shows up on the screen.

I've run into this same exact issue. When typing fast, it gets a few words behind. Happens on CDMA version.

+1 cdma version. The lag is horrific when I am using the keyboard in landscape mode. I am curious to know if it is a problem for everyone as well.

Im also getting lag when going to landscape on the lte
Yeah its mainly in the landscape mode

Happening to me quite often. On a GSM version, even in portrait.
The phone had been working great for two weeks and getting a few issues with it in the last three days.

Wasn't impressed with the stock keyboard so I got SwiftKey
Yeah same thing happening here in landscape. I just noticed this yesterday - I don't know if it's just started happening or the honeymoon phase is just wearing off?
there seems to be almost no lag in portrait, but yeah landscape is death.
The only solution at this point is to install a third party keyboard, or just always type in portrait.
I installed SwiftKey and besides couple minor quibbles it works pretty well. In landscape it lags slightly every once in a while but it is nowhere close to the showstopper the stock keyboard is. Definitely something in ICS holding us up and Google needs to get on the ball.

This is a pretty widespread issue. Check out this article: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/22/noticing-lag-in-the-ice-cream-sandwich-keyboard-in-landscape-mode/
I run TouchPal keyboard and don't notice any lag.
If you have a laggy keyboard switch off the force hardware acceleration option.

i use touchpal too, but their auto correct and prediction are way off than swiftkey.

SwiftKey users?

I love SwiftKey because of the amazing auto correct, arrow keys, and swiping to delete a word. I type very well on my phone thanks to the program.
However, since I am not using the stock keyboard, I don't think I can do cool stuff with my pen like write a handwritten text message.
Anyone else sticking to SwiftKey or are folks using the stock keyboard?

I alternate between both. I love SwiftKey but I can't do one handed typing. That's why I also still use the Samsung keyboard. If only it had auto correct. Oh well.

I'm a Swype fan, but I'm currently giving the Android 4.2 keyboard a chance. It has a swipe feature..... So far I'm thinking I'll switch back to the Swype keyboard. It gets the words correct more often it seems...

For me it's SwiftKey all the way no other program catches and fixes as many words as SwiftKey does

Can you edit the dictionary for your own words or delete words you don't use?

I used to use Switftkey, but since I have a Note 2, I use the samsung keyboard, because it can learn my often used words same like switftkey.
If you see the options in "Predictive Text" in Samsung keyboard is almost the same with the "Personalization" menu in Swiftkey.
The only thing I miss is the cursor key option in Switfkey is not available in Samsung keyboard
Used to, but moved to stock

When i had my s2, i used swiftkey, but since i got my note 2 Ive been using the stock keyboard because it has swipe and swiftkey features built in.
Always used swype in the past but when I got the gn2 I loved the stock keyboard too much to change. ..
Great swype function and number pad. Tried SwiftKey but wasn't that impressed.

Swype Beta time!

I agree. The JB keyboard is good, but missing the cursor keys. Swiftkey is still better in that sense.

I use SwiftKey in the day and swype after 10pm at night. Reason being at night I normally like to spend some time playing with the phone, reading forums while lying in bed b4 sleeping. Swype is better for this case.
I have a tasker profile that automatically changes input to SwiftKey in the morning and swype at night.

And how is SwiftKey better during the day? You lost me, I'm afraid...

I used to swap between Swiftkey and the Swype beta on my Galaxy S and Note 1.
But I've just been using the stock keyboard on the Note 2 because it is almost like Swiftkey and Swype combined.
I just hate that the Samsung keyboard is so big. I occasionally still switch to Swiftkey when I want to see more of the screen.
The Swiftkey and Swype keyboard take up a lot less screen space. I can't wait for Swiftkey flow.

Lol. cause at night I'll be lying on the bed, holding the phone up using one hand. so it's easier to Swype with the other. It's not possible to type using 2 hands in this manner.

Read my question again. I'm not asking about the REASON to SWYPE at NIGHT.....

I use swiftkey. The lack of auto correct in samsung's keyboard kills it for me. I can type 5x times faster with swift with its (still) unparalleled auto correction.

Sorry cause I usually like to type using both hands. Swype is not very conducive for that. Only reason I use Swype at night is because I cannot type with both hands while lying down and holding the phone above me.
SwiftKey. For clarification, Samsung calls it's version of Swype "Swiftkey", so that camelcasing is more important than ever in this thread.
SwiftKey is the only app I've ever purchased. I used the trial and could not go back to any other keyboard after that. I do wish it had the option for a row of numbers, like the Samsung keyboard does. That's really convenient, and on a phone this size not a hindrance.

I understand now! Makes perfect sense!
Well, i tried the Samsung Keyboard with swipe feature and it sucked. Punctuation was difficult to say the least. However, i did like the number keys always up there.
Back to giving Android Keyboard another go now...
Overall, Swype Beta seems the easiest when trying to type really fast, but formats funky on the screen sometimes.
I'm hoping the next version of Android Keyboard is improved. It also won't show you word suggestions for previous words, which is just stupid..

Keyboard spell correction stinks...

As title states...just picked up my Note 2 today. Best phone I've ever owned hands down, but the spell correction is non existent...literally. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? I see the correct spelling as suggestions, but if I hit the space bar they are not chosen. Thanks in advance.

I didn't like it at the beginning either, but it sorta grows on me now. I like the feature that it predicts my next word if I type part of a phrase. Also I can type a few words without hitting space, and the keyboard can insert space between the words. That's really neat.

Try the swype keyboard that's pre-installed. It gives you the option to choose the correct word. Another step but I like the swype keyboard better. Give it a try.

Not a huge deal but very odd that if you type like normal, text just doesn't spell check...ever. It shows the right spelling above the keyboard, but won't automatically change to that word. I still think I'm missing something.

yeah same as OP i thought auto correct automatically would change the word for you but nope

Yes that is weird. But if you swype the word it will spell check it for you.

My experiences on keyboard accuracy. 1. Swype beta is fastest and most accurate with voice swyping. Much better than pre-installed Swype. HOWEVER s~ pen does not work at all. There is a microphone button. 2. Swype installed had no Mic button and short several features of the free beta...i guess s~ voice may cover that but haven't figured that our yet and too many steps when likely to use Mic.. 3. Samsung keyboard a good compromise but a compromise it is. Swyping less accurate, Mic button buried, voice recognition not as good as sywpe beta, s pen works well, no navigation like the beta, but I really like the always present number row. Now if Swype beta fixed the s~ pen problem and adds a number row it will be perfect. In the meanwhile i am compromising by using the Samsung keyboard.

Decided to go with SwiftKey... Seems to be better than anything I've used before. I'll stick with this a while.

This. I like it better. I sometimes text in Spanish, and the auto correct was a nightmare, also if you use abbreviations or slang words. I also like that I can put the cursor on a word I already wrote and it will give me the correct spelling. I have big fingers and hit the c or v key alot with the space bar, I can fix those mistakes easily now.
I want the Samsung keyboard from the note 1 on the note2

Fleksy Keyboard!

Has anyone used this yet? According to engadget they are out of beta and they are even bringing it to iOS. It has a 30 day free trial. I used swiftkey all the time and this is hard to get used to. It's cool though check it out!
http://fleksy.com/
Tried it for 10 minutes, didn't like it and removed it. I like to Swipe and the Stock KB does a good job and I also have Swype installed. The phone's too large to work without a Swiping KB, in my opinion.
I've been using that keyboard since beta and love it
I like it too. First innovative keyboard I've seen in a while. I've gotten a little too used to gesture typing though. Awesome UX though.

I tried it but wasn't for me. I've been using Swiftkey for to long, I can't seem to find anything else that compares to me.
its definitely interesting. i'm a swiftkey user myself. ill try it for a month or so and give it a chance.
I was a beta tester, didn't like it at all, SwiftKey still reigns supreme.

I just got this yesterday, I am going to play around with it for a few days, the invisible keyboard ( turns the whole touch screen into a keypad ) feature seems pretty awesome actually, especially on something large like my Note 3.

Keyboard issues

On my 8.4 I've noticed an annoying bug. First of, I think the Samsung keyboards gesture input is terrible so I installed the Google keyboard but now I cannot see any gesture trails in portrait nor do numbers show up if I long press on the top row. The functionality works but the visuals are not there which is weird. All is fine in landscape.. Ideas?

I'm experiencing the same issue. I installed SwiftKey to get around the problem, but I much prefer the google Keyboard if possible.
Glad it's not just me. I'm also experiencing plenty of crashes on stock. Of random apps.
