There was a Swype beta posted tonight. Has anyone else used it? What do you think of it? Beta or stable?
I am using it now and I like it allot it's a big step forward for Swype. And I'll stick to the beta.
What other keyboard do you use?
pics go in this order: stable, beta, keyboard selection
EDIT: there are something that people arent liking or dont fully understand how to do it..... the two im mainly talking about are "adding a word to the user dictionary" and the new "backspacing"
user dictionary: after typing the word ( it will be in a grey box) tap the word till it turns orange (the word in the box (mainly the letters)) then then long press the orange word
backspacing: right after you swype a word it will have a white line under it, when and only when (the white line is there) if you hit the backspace button then it erases the word. any other time it is like the stable. WARINING: when you hold the backspace button down it goes ALOT faster then in the stable. it is something you just have to get used to, and it can be learned.... i understand it now and like it better then in the stable.
if there is anything else you think i should add or would like me to explain then please PM me and i'll get on it

Does it look good? The orange is terrible looking imo.

i like the beta
...
Been using the beta most of today and it's great. It's been awhile since I used it, preferring slide it, but it now acts more like that keyboard and seems to have a stronger prediction system. I does much better with spacing.
Thanks for the info! Looks really nice. Are there themes for it as well?

Djdarkknight was having problems getting it to work after he themed it.
I had just been using the stock one in the latest FF## builds. Thanks for the post about the beta. I went out and grabbed it. I think it's pretty sweet. I agree with the other opinions that prediction seems much better!
In addition to my previous post the Dragon voice input is amazing on the new Swype. I have a southern drawl and I would estimate it's getting somewhere in the range of 95 to 98% correct every time. This post was recorded with the voice input 100% and I only had to correct one word and that was Swype and that was only because it was trying to spell it as swipe.
I wish Swype was a better keyboard. It's awesome when Swyping but when strait typing, SwiftKey is king.

wow I'm loving the beta, very very accurate.
I'm using the new beta right now, ours working really well. Dragon dictation doesn't seem to like me though.

I'm not really feeling the stock Samsung keyboard and I've been searching for a successful port of the HTC/Sense keyboard for the S3 with no luck.
It seems as if I'll have to find a comparable or better replacement. Any suggestions?
(BTW, my phone is rooted so there are no issues with flashing anything.)
Try SwiftKey 3! That's epic keyboard with best word reach speed.
It's radicolous in GPlay and probably best keyboard with international support.

Another +1 for SwiftKey3. I switched over to it about six months ago and haven't even thought about looking for another one.
Tried a bunch, keep coming back to swiftkey
I downloaded original stock ICS keyboard works the best no problems
There's something wrong with swiftkey 3 for me.
I could start typing a sentence and it would end up looking like this : The quick brown fox jumped over the fefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefe.
And once I'm in that lock, pressing backspace will just add more. Doesn't happen often but it's annoying.

+1 on SwiftKey
Not really sure why people think that the SwiftKey devs did any meaningful work with the Note II keyboard. In my opinion, it is garbage in comparison and offers no basic functionality beyond SwiftKey 3. It's a real shame you lose S pen support using an alternative keyboard. Do you really prefer the default keyboard? There is no way I can write anywhere as fast as I can text with basic SwiftKey 3. Thoughts?

The one thing I love about the stock keyboard is the 4th row number keys. Wish I could get that on swift key.

+1... exactly what I think...
Yes, the number row counts for something, no doubt, but when I'm wailing away at the keyboard, it is normally to hit letter keys, and not numbers, as good as it is. Simiarly, there are obvious benefits to a hardware querty keyboard, but will few will buy one despite the utility. Now, I say this as someone who doesn't spend a great deal of time working in spreadsheets. Something like that is something I could imagine skipping plain SwiftKey for. What do you use a number row for?

I dont think you get it. Moving the special characters onto an additional row of keys, so I dont have to toggle to another keyboard +being able to hit the numbers on the same screen +swype on the same keyboard... all adds up. Now, if I could change two things; spacebar to autocorrect and being able to edit the keyboards user dictionary, that would be perfection.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Yes, that's what I'm talking about, the space bar and the auto complete/correct. To me, that IS SwiftKey. If I have to reach up for every word, that is not swift and I could definitely do without it. Considering what you said, if the only influence that SwiftKey had in the Samsung keyboard is the "learning" phase, how is it learning anything if you have to select your words manually and can't change the dictionary?
Before I had the Note 2 I used swift key on all my phones. However with the Note I've been using Swype for the 1st time and love it. So much so I've removed swift key. Swype is nice when you're one handing this beast and is the only reason I even tried using it in the 1st place. I've also found it to be really intuitive. Once swift key have their version of Swype up and running I'll give it another shot.

So far it feels like more of a gimmick than a see serious attempt to make a dent in the keyboard market, but I am open to accepting my inexperience as a important factor.Do you guys find you are actually faster with this keyboard? I do plan on continuing to practice day to day, and I accept that I may have spoken to soon.

I still prefer to type with both hands, then again, I find the stock samsung keyboard good enough that it's my daily driver (although i wish the auto correct kicks in automatically... I don't have time to type and then click on the auto correct, just auto correct when i move to the next word).
I only use the swipe keyboard when i'm using 1 handed or the s pen as regular typing should be done with 2 hands. I did come from a sensation so, i was used to their trace keyboard

I had the same problem not liking the lack of space bar for autocorrect until I realized it was the same distance to hit the autocorrected word vs the spacebar. Once I broke that habit swiftkey and swype were forgotten about. Typing on mispelled words to autocorrect em has been nice on the stock sammy keyboard.

Once I became comfortable with Swype I found that I'm much faster and proficient with it than finger pecking. It took me about a day to really start liking it. Prior to the Note 2 I never used Swype, I also viewed it as a gimmick. Now I absolutely love it!

The new swiftkey function with the spacebar seems nice, just wish they would separate the number keys at the top like on the stock keyboard. Once the new swiftkey comes out I will probably give it a try again.
I've noticed that there are places where the Swype keyboard isn't inserting spaces after words, such as in the dolphin browser. Is this a glitch or just me?

Amazing. Can't wait for the official release, bug free with hopefully some sort of swipe to delete (swipe the backspace button?).
I use SwiftKey 3 before this and the swipe left for a word delete was amazing.
Am I the only person that thinks it's horrible? I use SwiftKey and love it but flow just isn't there yet. It only types what I want half the time and I'm constantly going back and fixing errors. I'm much faster and accurate with the normal SwiftKey.

I find that the case with most of the "flow" type keyboards. For some reason, tapping just works better for me. The idea of having to type only one key at a time (as opposed to using 2 fingers/thumbs) is beyond me and slows me down!

I'm using this keyboard cuz for me it's like a free version of SwiftKey with that amazing prediction. The swiping works best on the words you get lazy on or you know are easy to swipe. I'd drive myself crazy if I tried swiping a whole paragraph. This keyboard is really accurate tho and the feature in the settings that shows where you press the keys is cool and it imports ur words from other sources so it knows you well right off the bat and with the cool default themes this keyboard is a keeper
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
As far as these trace type keyboards go, I prefer Swype. Although I understand this is still in beta. But I stay with the normal SwiftKey because I end up spending more time going back and correcting errors than it saves me.

I didn't get into swype type keyboards until I tried the 4.2 nexus keyboard. I thought it was decent but without the auto correcting and spacing of swiftkey, I went back to it.
Same thing with the OG stock keyboard. I absolutely love this though. I keep swiftkey but I've been messing with flow more and more.
It's a beta so it has it's glitches (swyping 5 words then it goes blank once I move on to the 6th one) but when usually it works great.
I've typed out long text messages faster than I ever imagined with it. I'll be getting the official apk once it's released.
I'm sure this topic has been discussed before but I want to know which keyboard you guys like more? I like the fact you can use the Samsung keyboard in one handed mode, but the flow through space function is neat on SwiftKey Flow. I also think that the prediction is a bit better than the stock keyboard.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
The stock keyboard doesn't auto replace. That alone makes it completely unusable for me. Swiftkey is what I use, and flow makes it easier to use with one hand...
Yeah I have to agree with you, and the predictions that SwiftKey does is top notch. I am also a fan of the number pad.

Same here, if the stock keyboard had a auto correct, i wouldn't need to look around for an alternative keyboard. It's just a shame that swiftkey doesn't work in all text boxes (ie. play store searching)
Which version of SwiftKey BETA are you guys using? I downloaded the standard version, but there is also a tablet version. I have SwiftKey X Tablet version, as I think it's better than the regular one for the Note.
I tried both the regular and tablet version of SwiftKey a couple of weeks ago and both looked pretty much the same, apparently the tablet functions are not enabled on the Note II. I decided against them at the time because they did not have swipe.
Installed SwiftKey Flow Beta yesterday morning (standard, not tablet, based on past experience and it was stated that landscape does not work yet in tablet beta version) and LOVE IT, it's definitely a keeper. Have been using it extensively and have not run into any apparent issues yet (including in Google Play search box, it works fine for me).
I'm a swiftkey user but hadn't been using it as I wanted to see if I could get used to the handwriting recognition on the stock keyboard. That didn't work too well for me so I started using flow. I'm on the international rom in the dev section and it has the 4.2 keyboard. The flow works very well, the autospacing took a little while to get used, I found myself running words together. I was surprised how good the word recognition was and the predictions were pretty good too. I just installed the Swiftkey beta and the spacing is much better as you just glide over the space bar. I like the keyboard layout better with the long press for the symbols. SwiftKey is the winner for me but the stock 4.2 keyboard is not bad at all.
is it possible to use something like Tasker to automate the switch from swiftkey to stock Samsung keyboard when you activate multiview?
I mainly use swiftkey as my default but i switch to the samsung keyboard in multiview since I can move it around. it'd be awesome if this process could be automated.
Does any one know how to turn on the flow function one in the keyboard? Because it seems when you just type the letters it turns off.

Thanks. Pretty much my experience, too. I current have both versions installed. Didn't see a difference, so based on what you stated, I guess I'll uninstall the tablet version.
Flow seems really good... it's just that I don't know how to be very fluid with it. There's a bit of a learning curve — at least for me. I love the fact that you don't really ever have to lift your finger off of the keypad, but I find that doesn't seem very practical in most situations. Sometimes it gets a complete sentence right ... other times it will start to get it right, but at the last second change up into something totally different ... and other times it doesn't come close. So until I get figure out how to get it right most of the time, that edge over Swype isn't really there in that regard, but I find the auto-prediction and spelling corrections much better than anything Swype has to offer.
When someone release a rom for our phone with the Android 4.2 keyboard then I'll be sticking with that.
