Hey everyone, I have a quick question. To start off though, I am using Baked Snacks ROM for my EVO while my brother decided to upgrade via HTC/Sprint to Froyo on his device. We are trying to share some apps that I've downloaded via Apps Sharing on our phones. We have already gone through the process of sending apps to each other via Bluetooth. Now the ones he did receive (a few got lost in translation and weren't able to get sent), we can't find. The question:
Can anyone help me with where to find the apps I've shared and how to install them on his phone? We've placed a Bluetooth folder on his screen to look at the received files but it gives us an option of either HTML viewer or file manager. Not sure about the latter, I could be wrong.
Hi there,
I registered here today hoping you guys could help me out. I bought my daughter a tablet called Kurio. Its Android v. 4.0.3 and I would like to Root it but regular google searches and occational YouTube-videos confuses me rather then helping out.
kurioworld.com .... check out this website to get a closer look on the tablet, and perhaps come up with a solution ?
As the Tablet runs today its not compatible with a lot of games, and im not able to connect the device to Google Play Android App store.
Thx for reading the post, I really hope you can help me out.

I also got the Kurio for my daughter today and got quite mad when I noticed that Google Apps wasn't there. I guess they havent been approved by google or something. I can't see any other reason why google apps is left out.
I tried the alternative market (1Market) but the first thing I saw when I opened it was a porn app. So I removed it quickly. Then I tried installing Amazon appstore. Worked well but I'm not allowed to buy apps here in Norway. Quite irritating.
Finally i found a way to get apps from Google Play into the Kurio. This requires that you have another rooted android device with gapps:
1. Install Shark App backup & restore on your second android device.
2. Install the apps you need.
3. Back up the apps you want placed on the Kurio with the Shark app
4. Remove SD Card from your phone/tablet/whatever and insert it into the Kurio
5. Enter Android mode on the Kurio, open the File Manager, navigate to /sdcard/AppManagerProMax
6. "click" on the apk's you want to install.
Works like a charm. My daughter will be happy to see minecraft PE on her Kurio in the morning.
I did this on a HTC Sensation with CM10.

Hi there,
Thx for taking the effort to give me a possible solution. Unfortunately I dont access a rooted phone, so there you go
Btw, I`m from Norway to, so I guess we are stuck in the same boat here. I tried amazon myself, but as we discovered ...
As for now, Piratebay is by far the best "shop", most of the files there actually works fine with the Kurio.
Plz dont hesitate to contact me if we could find solutions to this problem.
Actually it might be better to use email ..... we could even speak Norwegian ,
You can reach me at stigolsen(alfakrøll)gmail.com.
I think I will give Kurio a couple of weeks tops, before I put out an Ad at Finn.no. Right now I would much rather own the Nexus 7 to be honest.
Cheers

Simply contact costumerservice through the website kurioworld.com. I asked for a way to root the Kurio, instead they sent me a zipfile with content needed to get the Google store without rooting.
Came with instructions, and whole thing was done in 5 minutes. No hassle, everything just works flawless. Finally the Kurio seems worth keeping.

Ok.. The hacker in me just woke up. He has been dormant for 15+ years.
I got the file from the Kurio guys at the same time as I got your email. And the script worked.
During the script output I noticed that it said "Removing root" or something. That means that the script roots the device, installes Gapps (including Google Play) and then removes root.
The script is a simple .bat file with a bunch of adb commands. I found in clear text how to root the device. When i get the time I will write up an article on how to root the Kurio.
Then I will start figuring out how to get another Recovery installed on the device. From there on, who knows, maybe I will try getting Jelly Bean compiled for the device.
I might also try to retrieve the Kurio interface and see if I can get it to work on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.
I will put the file up for download as soon as I find a hosting service I don't have to pay for. Any recommendations? Sadly it's too big to upload as an attachment here.

Hi again,
Great u got it working ! Suddenly the Kurio is kinda worth keeping right ?
An article about rooting the device would be great, and Jelly Bean would be so cool.
As for uploading the file I have used filefactory(dot)com before, take a look there ..
I suggest we keep future progress in this thread, I do belive a lot of people will find this useful as we make more progress in weeks to come.

I have applied for a developer account on goo.im. If I get approved that will be where the files are put.
And the tablet is definetely worth keeping now. A couple of apps doesn't work, but with root we can probably fix that.

Hello
They are having a sale, where i live today and tomorrow. I can get it with 25% off. My kids prefer tablets instead of there Nintendo's. Is it really worth the purchase? Do you know if it can run subway surfers? And last some sites says it has a dual core processor others says single core. Another is doubt about the ram being 1 gb or 512 mb.
Thanks
Hello
I bought two for my 5 year okd kids. The Kurio is going to replace there Nintendo's. I installed the market, using your uploaded files, thank's. It seems like that it only removes the superuser program. And that it leaves the device permanently rooted. I can use both root explore and titanium backup. Most games I installed, runs ok including subway surfer.
Hey guys, can one of you with a rooted tab, maybe release a full backup? I am wanting to try maybe port the launcher over to work on any tablet?..
thanks

could you please post a download link for that google play file again.... the one you have post now times out
Hi all,
I got a nexus 7 for Xmas. It's my first Android device but I did have a Dell axim a number of years ago and played around with roms.
I am a happy iOS user but wanted to have a look at Android as it is quite mature now.
So I have rooted my nexus and I wanted ask a few questions
1 I have created a backup using rom manager. Is this a nandoid backup?
2 is it necessary to get rom manager pro? What does the paid version do extra?
3 are any roms available that are based on 4.4 or is it too early?
4 what is the best network media streamer? I have xbmc on my apple TV and I know I can install on my nexus. But should I or are there better options?
5 how do you transfer movies to the nexus? Via USB to the movie folder?
Thanks for any tips. Apologies for the noob questions!
I never used Rom manager so I cannot help you with those questions.
Regarding the other ones, there are many Roms based on 4.4 to 4.4.2 KitKat and for 4.4.2 I would recommend Clean ROM 2.6. Boosts performance and leaves the Tablet almost stock.
The only media streamer I know is XBMC so I cannot recomend anything else.
Once rooted you can drag and drop videos to anywhere you like I believe.
I use Archos Video Player to stream smb shares from my pc. It makes thumbnails for you and has a nice ui.

Thanks all.
Just found that sky go doesn't work on rooted devices. I thought this was a iOS jailbreak issue!
Any workarounds for this problem for Android?
In superSu hide the root, some apps then work, others remain disabled as is probably a DRM issue which os mire likely because of the unlock

2 I would get Rom Toolbox, instead. More features.
3 Lots. Check out the N7 development threads.

Thanks. I'll take a look at rom toolbox.
I have a more general question about whether I really need to root my device. I think I can still install roms without being rooted. Correct?
I find it annoying that apps such as sky go detect rooted devices and you end up in a battle to get these apps working!
when do you need to root? What is the use case (apart from side loading pirated apps that I am not interested in)
Thanks

Root is an essential part of the Android experience, especially if you want to use everything Android has to offer. You will not be able to flash custom ROMs without having Root. Now I have Rom Manager Pro and I can tell you that when I first started out with Android that app what a lifesaver for me. However, now that I have a bit more experience with ROMs and Recovery Manager I would urge you start learning how to use your recovery manager. Did you install a custom recovery manager when you rooted your Nexus device? If you did not look into installing TWRP Recovery Manager. You can do everything from that Recovery Manager that you can pretty much do with Rom Manager such as make backups. The one great thing about Rom Manager is that it will identify your device and list some Nice ROM's that are available for your specific device. As for root again, some of the best apps available for Android require Root access. Apps like "complete linux installer" which allows you to put Linux on your tablet. Another great app is "titanium backup" this is an app that you will definitely want to buy the pro version. Support your developers! Titanium backup allows you to make a nice backup of all your apps and your user data. Gotten to level 40 on dead trigger 2? An update breaks your favorite app...with Titanium Backup you could restore an older version of an app and even restore your status within a game such as bringing you back to level 40 in the example of dead trigger 2 that i used...which has cloud but it was an example!
Oh one app you should seriously get for your stock Nexus 7 ROM is "quickboot". Quickboot which needs ROOT allows your to reboot your tablet, reboot into recovery mode, and reboot into the bootloader with just one click of a button. This app will truly come in handy on a regular basis...
Now you asked about ROMs...
Of course we have to mention Cyanogenmod! This is being considered the "Cadillac" of ROM's and seems to be a very favorite choice among people starting out with Android to among the most advanced "power users" of Android.
I have tried "Ice Cold Rom Project" and i like that ROM very much...
Another ROM that I can't wait to try out is the "unofficial" OmniROM Project for the Nexus 7. Now this ROM is supposed to support Multi-Windows. Have you seen the Multi-Windows commercials for the Galaxy S4? Supposedly the "unofficial" OmniROM project has made that available for the Nexus 7 and i can't wait to try it out! I will be flashing this Monday...
Here is a link for that ROM on XDA -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533936
Lastly...
You mentioned that one of your apps is not working correctly because your device is rooted? While this has never happened to me personally I don't doubt that it could happen but not exactly sure why root access would cause an app to stop working. Here is something you could try...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amphoras.hidemyrootadfree
That link above is to an app called "hide my root" that one is the paid version but there is a free one just do a search on the Google Play Store. What it does is hides root or blocks root for taking place for a given period of time. If root really is the problem for that app then this might help as you can block root and then try starting the app...
Well congrats on coming over to Android! I think once you get the hang of things you will never go back to the iOS (maybe!). Android is such an amazing project and operating system but it would not be a quarter of what it is without all of these people here on XDA. The people here are what make Android great and what make the open source community great!. Keep playing with Android and don't worry about taking risks with your tablet. If you make a backup of your ROM you can always flash back your stock ROM as long as you can boot into your Recovery Manager. If you can't there is a way to push a stock ROM to your tablet with ADB. It is almost impossible to brick your Nexus device but still don't make ridiculous mistakes such as not making your backups!
Oh...
Yes you can transfer data from your tablet to your PC in a number of ways. One way is with a USB cable but you need to have the correct drivers installed. Do a google search for USB drivers for your Nexus device and you will find the correct ones you need. Another option that you could use is FTP. The Google Play Store has some great "FTP SERVER" apps which allow you to turn your tablet into an FTP Server. You could then download an FTP client on your PC such as "FileZilla" and log into your Android Tablet and start transferring or downloading files.
I hope this has been helpful for you...

I have rom manager, Clockworkmod touch and titanium backup installed. Now I see lots of references to twrp. Is twrp doing the same job as Cwm? Is twrp a better solution?

I actually find CWM better than TWRP, though I will admit I like the TWRP layout and design better. TWRP asked me for a password when I tried to restore after a softbrick on my N7, I couldn't access my TWRP backup even though I could get into the relevant directory.
After some research I found that this was due to how the boot-loader had been unlocked, however I did it correctly (actually followed an XDA tutorial just to be sure), so I have been a bit put off TWRP because when I really needed it, it didn't work.

Maybe give it another try. You can make a CWM backup first, just in case.
I used CWM, RM, and TB on my N1 from the beginning, without problems. Then, a couple of years ago, they all started to wonk out from time to time, so I switched to TWRP and Rom Toolbox. Never have a problem. But maybe I should give the others another try, too.

I've decided to stick to CWM on my N7, mainly because I know it and I wanted a recovery I was familiar with while playing around with stuff like Xposed modules. I did like TWRP, I'll probably flash that on my phone over CWM and see how that goes.
I swear by Rom Toolbox, major props to the Dev(s) for that bad boy.

U can try to reinstall the latest update available for your tablet using LG Suite by clicking update even if no new updates are available I think!
U have the Verizon lte one! I don't know what is the latest firmware for yours, but it should work normally! I don't think you'll lose any files if u don't factory reset, but I'm not sure about this! You'll lose root if you were rooted when u upgrade recovery using LG Suite!
If u are rooted, use titanium backup for backup and easy restore.
And if u have root working for your tablet, then flash a custom recovery if u don't have one and find the latest uploaded LG official KitKat firmware in the development sections and flash it!

If this starts to occur and you recently did an upgrade recovery, you should have also done a factory reset after wards. Having recently upgrade recoveried in the LG Tool, I had a nasty loop of system ui has failed that I could only fix by also factory resetting the device.
Incidentally this does seem to occasionally still occur when I use the physical volume buttons with my chromecast.
I have this using chromcast. I have found an easy fix! Just say "ok google "(if u have enbaled it everywhere) and it fixes it!

Use titanium backup and freeze them that way you can restore them if need be
I was wondering this question also. I can see in TB that there are a hell of a lot of apps (bloatware?) installed by LG and also a hell of a lot of these same apps running when I view running tasks using the Task Manager app - i.e. taking up RAM, CPU cycles and battery!
Has anybody created a list of what LG apps do what and which are safe to be removed? (I'm guessing that ex G2 owners might have more information about this)
For instance, there is stuff like
Answer Me
App Updates (Can't we just use Play Store?)
com.qualcomm.xxxxx (I'm guessing this is stuff for the Snapdragon APU/SOC?)
EasyHome (The other home launcher that I have never used)
ELTest
Font Server
GNSS Test
GNSS Air Test (CDMA) (I do not and will never use CDMA as I am in Europe so do I need this?)
LG Backup
LG GNSS
LG Health (Can't access this unless ur using the LG Home Launcher I think)
LG IMS
LG Intelligent Agent (^^ Have no idea what most of these apps are or do vv)
LG MLT
LG PC Suite/Service (Do people use the LG PC Suite as I have never used any phone sync app (like Samsung Kies) as all I need is MTP/MSC access)
LG System Server
LGATCMD
LG SearchWidgetProvider
LG SmartcardService
LIA Informant
LIA MrGDBLogger
LIA S4URecommender
Music 4.20.12 & 4.20.15 (Why are there 2 versions of these installed?)
Quickset SDK
Remote support service (I tried to use this but it told me I needed to phone LG to get an access code? Is this service only for certain users?)
Smart Notice (If you are not using the LG Home launcher then do you need this? - I use Nova Launcher and I don't have an option for this widget)
SmartShare.Push
SmartShare.Cloud
Software Update (If u r rooted then this will be useless apart from notifying you that a new update is available)
WAP Service (Is this WAP as in Nokia 6630 WAP internet?)
Wfd Service
Widevine Keybox Test
I was on a CyanogenMod based ROM on my old phone and which only had the essentials installed, so the LG bloatware seems excessive especially since you don't seem able to access the LG apps without using the LG Home Launcher...unless I am mistaken?
I'm guessing that as soon as the bootloader is unlocked and custom ROMS developed then most of this excess will be gone.
Hello
Hello everybody I am new, I recently install a kitkat 4.4.2 cyanogenmod and I have notices that it doesn't have LG PC Suite/Service...
Could someone please give me a way to install this? Please?
Thank you.

Hello everybody I am new, I recently install a kitkat 4.4.2 cyanogenmod and I have notices that it doesn't have LG PC Suite/Service...
Could someone please give me a way to install this? Please?

What phone and model do you have?
Why do you want to install the LG suite? What are you trying to accomplish?

I know I'm sorry, but I couldn't find anywhere else to post and I figured that it might be the same thing too, I don't think if you for example were to make a backup with titanium backup and were to upload it, me to download and restore it in my android system on my phone, it wouldn't work, I think it doesn't matter with phone, its like on windows, doesn't matter what components, matters to be the same brand (LG) and thats all.
I think! But again, I'm just a newbie.

AFAIK, (from experience with other phones in the past) you can just install the LG PC Suite in your PC and when it comes to connecting your phone it will send the PC Suite components to your phone for installation.

Thanks man but that really doesn't work... It works on older phone models but now with newer android system/phones its actually the other way around, if i went to a PC that didn't have the suite on it, the phone offered the option to install the suite on the PC

Ah, well in my G3 I was able to select an option in the settings which then asked me to connect the PC USB cable which then opened a web page on my PC to download the LG PC Suite, so that's the option you must be talking about. I believe then that the PC Suite is already installed on your phone and all it needs is the corresponding program on your PC to function fully?
Does your phone have the LG Update Centre? If so, the PC Suite app might be there?
If that doesn't do what you want then since you are wanting to use a CM based ROM (in which I would imagine that they have taken out most LG apps) and if you can't find the PC Suite stuff anywhere, flash a stock ROM then do a full TB then flash the CM ROM on top so then you can restore any LG apps/services you want.

Thank you guys for all your help, so lets recap what I need is to have the LG suite or Connectivity or whatever its called, service installed on my phone(in the app manager on ALL tab) so that when I connect my phone to the usb cable my PC LG Suite will see that there's a phone on the wire and connect.
Because as it is now, I don't have ANY LG software services installed anywhere on my phone and I have no options to select any kind of connectivity relating to LG Suite in my phone, in the stock you have through wifi or usb.
And you guys are saying that if I install a stock and then restore CM ROM I will have that service? But won't I have all the other crap services too? Or can I just do a Titanium Backup sweep and scrape them all off after?
Isn't there anything simpler I can do to get that 1 service? Like have someone back it up on their phone, upload it and me download it and install it? Backup with Titanium Backup and restore it to my system with Titanium Backup after download
Thanks!
