Hey everyone, I have a quick question. To start off though, I am using Baked Snacks ROM for my EVO while my brother decided to upgrade via HTC/Sprint to Froyo on his device. We are trying to share some apps that I've downloaded via Apps Sharing on our phones. We have already gone through the process of sending apps to each other via Bluetooth. Now the ones he did receive (a few got lost in translation and weren't able to get sent), we can't find. The question:
Can anyone help me with where to find the apps I've shared and how to install them on his phone? We've placed a Bluetooth folder on his screen to look at the received files but it gives us an option of either HTML viewer or file manager. Not sure about the latter, I could be wrong.

The tread says it all, So I rooted my phone and uninstalled amazon mp3 and city id via titanium backup. What will happen when I go to update in the future. Is there a way to add these applications back without doing any flashing?
What are my options to be able to update via OTA without having any issues?
I have tried moving the cityid.apk to the system/app folder and installed it from there, but it just installed as a normal application that can be removed.. I figured that I need to install it as a system application. I now know that I should have just renamed them.
Thanks

Amazon MP3 is in the Market. You should have rooted, used ROM Manager to back up your system, and then removed bloat. Most ROM's have these items removed, some still use CityID or another version that does the same thing.
My suggestion is if you are rooted, you can backup your apps and such, just run another ROM.
I couldn't find CityID in the Market, but various ROM postings may have the apk for download if you wanted to re-add it. I would check those postings to see if it is listed there, and make a directory to move the files to if you think you may need them again! Prevents headaches, especially if they are needed due to corruption or something weird.
Correct me if I am wrong, the only reason I wanted to restore these applications was so I could update when honeycomb or whatever the new Update is going to be.
With that being said, could I just downgrade my phone using the PB31IMG.zip , that would wipe everything out.. removing root, and it would bring back original files that were on phone ( city id etc.) then the phone would automatically update itself over the air? problem solved?
You could just run ruu on it if I'm not wrong
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Well now I am really confused, the cityid.apk file just randomly showed back up in the browser... so i went and looked and it says it's a system app and wont let me uninstall it now... haha... this is so weird, so now I just need to find the original amazon mp3 then i will put it back in there and see if that works.
Is anyone able to get the Amazon Mp3.apk and upload it and send to me. I would like to get the one that originally came with my phone. Version 1.7.67 it is the one that came with stock froyo
Okay my phone was refreshed and I had to reinstall all my apps. I can't see google talk in the app marketplace. I also can't find it on appbrain.
I searched around for a while to try to figure out what was going on, but can't find much other information about it.
I doubt the app was pulled or i would have probably heard of it.
Can i get a QR code or link to the appstore or an APK or appbrain?
I wish I knew as well. I ended up reflashing my rom to get it back...
OP.... what you need to do is download a rom and extract it.
go into the folder " sytem" then "apps"
get the talk.apk our and either adb install it or put it on your SD card and use root explorer to move it to the system/apps folder on your phone.
Hope this helps
hmmm why would I need to do this? was it pulled from the android marketplace for some reason? i'm just curious, i'm pretty sure I had to load it on my phone before from the marketplace.
i probably will just end up using another messaging client, because I don't really want to go through all that for an app I don't use very much.
in any case thanks for the advice, i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who can't find it..
It has been included in every ROM I've installed. Maybe find it in the gapps pack for Cyanogen?
I'm not even rooted... i'm not using a custom rom.. i'm just using the stock sprint issued evo.
I was having issues with the phone and they restored it to factory defaults which made me lose my apps. The last time i rooted was the intial unrevoked (which later was lost with an OTA update)
No idea what to tell you then. Talk is part of the Google apps that are included with the phone. Most every ROM I have installed includes it. Cyanogen doesn't include a lot of these because they aren't allowed to be distributed by third parties and their team is good about sticking within the rules.
If something screwed up you should just factory reset the phone if you only want stock. Better yet, do a proper root and install whatever app you want
http://cyanogenmod-mirror.local.host.name/gapps/gapps-hdpi-20101025-signed.zip. Must be rooted to flash obviously. Do not know if this zip will work with Sense ROMs. It contains all Google apps (Market, Talk, Google Voice, etc.) Good luck. Not guaranteed that this will work. Use at own risk. Do a backup first.

ah i see my problem, i am an idiot. google talk IS preinstalled on the phone. i kept thinking i had to install it, couldnt find it in the market and gave up. i didn't even think to look in the app list on the phone....
that said, yea its about time that i did a proper root. ill have to read up a bit to be sure its easy enough- i have all the OTA updates, and htne ill go for it.
thanks for the replies!

Newer version
The old version here cannot receive the picture associated with the contact. I have attached the newer version that comes with HTC Sensation. I got it from the file "Stock Apps+ODEX.zip" at this thread: [APPS] T-Mobile Stock Apps & Stock Apps+ODEX Files
Also you may want to sign the application first. Then check the above replay by @maniacscorpio.

Running a Unrooted Galaxy S3 LTE. The app installs fine, I get a black screen for a few seconds, then it says "Unfortunately, Transfer has stopped."
Do I need root access?
ok peeps, I'll try to make it short and to the point.
Mods, I've tried searching the forums, I can't seem to find an answer, if one's available, my apologies for duplicating a thread, and if you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
so, I've got a Galaxy S4, Tmobile, 16gb, stock 4.3 rom (per latest OTA update) and it's rooted.
I used to have a mytouch 4g and I found a thread here on how to create links via ROM Toolbox to fool the google music store into downloading my purchases to the external card instead of internal memory. Mind you, I had CM loaded on the mytouch, but I thought just rooting the Galaxy would allow me to do the same.
In short, I can't. it took me a while to find the directory where the Galaxy stores the downloaded files from google music play store (WTF with the names google), but I can't create the link so that future downloads go straight to external SD (I've got a 64gb one on the phone)
I know I can manually move the files, either on the phone or connecting the phone to my laptop and moving the files that way, but that's not the point. I should be able to specify where to download my music, after all I'm paying for it for chrissakes...
the amazon store is much more flexible, it does allow me to specify a different folder, but it won't reach up to the main directory to choose external SD, only the retarded virtual storage folders...
any help will be much appreciated!! thanks everyone.

Thank you se1000. I reviewed the thread that you linked to, and while it sites offer a solution to my problem, it still involves further mods to the phone. Not opposed to that if needed, but I'm trying to find out a more direct approach, downloading yet another app is not really what I was going for. Have you come across other solutions? I keep searching, but no luck.

If you're rooted the xposed method is by far the easiest. Install the framework, install the module and specify your path.
Looks like the new Google Music update has this included!
Effin' A!. Says "experimental" on devices below kit kat. Hope they don't take it away on any future update. I'll disable auto update/save this version's apk just in case.

Use Titanium Backup to make a backup of the app and upload it to your dropbox or save it on your computer or something. Also you could dual boot your phone and install the GPE rom and use KitKat
Dear All,
I recently discovered the atrocious 'security feature' Google is forcing upon it's Nexus users that disallows any downloading of certain compressed file types if they are sent to you via Email.
For those that don't know... send yourself a ZIP file (for instance) as an email attachment and your Nexus device will NOT let you download it once you receive the email within either the 'Email' or 'Gmail' app (other third party apps work fine).
I have searched high and low for a solution to this issue but it seems a fix hasn't been implemented even by the CyanogenMod community.
The closest I came to a fix is the following:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/opeing-zip-files-email-t1377475/page3
I have tried the solution suggested in the above thread which involves decompiling Email.apk, modifying some code, recompiling and implementing the new apk but I am now struggling.
I have decompliled the systems email.apk using apk tool... found the correct lines of code for my version of android ( http://grepcode.com/file/repository...Utilities.0UNACCEPTABLE_ATTACHMENT_EXTENSIONS ) and modified the file in question accordingly.
It is here where it all goes wrong... I cannot for the life of me figure what I am doing wrong when trying to implement the new Email.apk.
I copy it into system/apps using root explorer and reboot (after removing the old apk)... nothing. Email app has in fact disappeared.
Could anyone shed some light on this please?
I know there are work arounds such as using webmail but that's no good to me... I am extremely surprised that even at this stage of Android development we still have this kind of restriction so would appreciate all thoughts on how to get this going.
Maybe someone out there has some more information about the issue that I haven't been able to find?
PLEASE HELP!
UPDATE:
Managed to get my modified email.apk loaded but the amendments have not been successful.
Does anyone know any other parts of the source code I should be looking at?

Can't help you with the source code just wanted to say that I am able to download zip files with the newest version of the Gmail app (v 4.9) just fine. Sent a zip to my yahoo account and tried to use the Email app and keep getting "Couldn't download. Touch to retry." I thought they had fixed both but apparently not.
