Think of buying my first dual sim device? - Sony Xperia M

Can you customize the led notifications colors with an app like light flow?
How are you finding battery life with 2 sim cards?
I'm coming from the LG G2 so worried about battery. Would you recommend this device for at&t and tmobile service?

1] The Stock Settings itself provides options to change the led notifications with option to choose among different colours, whether to blink or not etc.
2] I am from India so no Idea about those carriers but the battery life is decent to good as per the usage. If you play games a lot then you need to charge it twice a day, else a full day backup is sure. With moderate use u can make the battery run for one and a half day with both sims active.

Generally speaking, battery life is good. Actually its not like the second sim is using that much more battery but anyway...

So light flow works? Believe me its been a criteria for my devices ever since blackberry days
How about custom roms? Does it affect dual sim card functionality?

Wait for few mins.
Showing you all the options we have for Notification Lights
Well As much as I know there's no custom ROM for dual yet n if there exists 1 then its customized stock ROM.
All Other Android Sister Projects are for Single Sim variant only and if you flash that on A Dual Sim Variant then you will be able to use sim 1 only.

Light flow works with 3rd party apps notification. So I guess I want to know if this would work, try it out install the free version from play store.

With Stamina mode off it has a little impact, in the battery monitor it shows that light flow consumed around 3-5% of the battery. Using the Modded Stamina mode it doesn't even show in the battery monitor, so, with Stamina mode it have no impact at all...

So with stamina mode off, how many hours of screen time are you getting?
Can it last one whole day? I'm thinking no with heavy use.
I was going to get this or the samsung galaxy mini s4 dual until I found out the led notifications dont work on it. Now I was also looking at the htc desire 600,700 dual sims.

I don't have an accurate measure because when the screen is on I'm doing heavy use, playing big games, etc. In this case, it lasts for about 6 or 8 hours. With moderate usage (and Stamina mode on) it lasts around one whole day and half

[APP] LED Me Know - app for LED notification !

Found out about this from the G2 forum
"LED Me Know" is a great app (available from the market) which you can use to make the LED blink for notification ! You can select if you want it to blink for new SMS, gmail, missed calls, etc. Also there's an option to make the trackpad light blink, though I've not tried that myself. Works great on my DZ with stock ROM

I can see it using a few MB of memory, but that's fine, I've got plenty of RAM. I haven't noticed any difference in my battery usage today since I installed it this morning, but I'll keep an eye on it, thanks.

thanks for the heads up, might need to give it another shot
had it for 1 day, and deleted, cuz when i receive sms or email while i sleep, the blink will either wake me up, or it will drain out the battery by the time i wake up (after it blinked for so many hours....)
good concept, good app to be use while i'm awake~

ok, so why not put the phone face down, or in its case or something if you don't want to see the LED flashing ? Another alternative is to turn off the service when you want to go to sleep (just go into the app and select the option to turn it off).
And did you find it to really drain the battery overnight ?
Maybe it's not for you though.
Unfortunately I also had a problem with this app draining the battery. I installed it on my stock T-Mobile G2 and experienced less than a third of my typical battery life today while using it. Not sure if the app itself is causing this or the flashing LED is drawing that much current. I uninstalled it for now.

[Q] Does anyone know how to turn off the LED light?

I think the LED light drains my battery too much when the screen is off
any way to turn it off ?
Are you on ICS or JB? I thought on ICS there was a direct setting but can't remember what option under System Settings. Maybe "More Settings"?
If you're on JB, can you do it through Settings -> Blocking Mode?
I think "lightflow" from the playstore gives you the option to turn it off
Think it depends on what ROM. What do you have enabling the LED when screen is off? From what I have read around here it really doesnt drain battery.

Should work. This way, you can disable all LED indicator all the time or for a selected period of time -- i.e. during the night.
More LED options are available in Settings -> Display -> LED Indicator, you can select which type(s) of LED indicator you want to activate or not (charging, low battery, notifications, and voice recording). It may then be interesting to configure these settings in conjuction with the blocking mode.
But that's on stock ROM. It might be different in CM10.

The S3's flashing led has negligible battery drain. (my experience)
I am using Light Manager app on a Stock ICS rom in normal mode blinking rapidly and have done the A/B tests to confirm that it is the least of your worries. I am a battery saving nut and have lots of experience with this.
But I would say, that some LED control apps have been known to cause heavy battery drain both to wakelocks and/or just the way they handle the switching.

[Q] Turning a ZL into a mini WiFi-only tablet

I have an Xperia ZL 6506 that I have left over when I bought my Z1.
It no longer is going to be used, and in my area, they're going for less than $200 used, and is not worth my time to sell and have to deal with all of that business. I've decided to turn it into a mini-media player / Internet SIP ad VoIP/Skype device. No cell service or cell related services (911, SMS, etc) will be active on this device any more.
I'm going to root it and TiBu away any services and applications I'll no longer require, so I'm looking for a comprehensive list of things that are safe to remove that I can get rid of, that wont compromise the stability of the device (meaning FCs and what not). Things like contacts and GMail are to be removed, and I plan to install QuickPic for the media player. Keeping Facebook, etc as well as the Camera functional are requirements.
Thoughts / Help is appreciated
"they're going for less than $200 used, and is not worth my time to sell and have to deal with all of that business."
Well, if your time is that valuable, the easies way would be to just remove the sim card and let the device like it is

I'm more so wanting to give it better battery life and what not, with Greenify of course, but why have the service trying to poll network requests or see if a SIM is there when it never will be?
Hmm, what about enabling the flight mode and turn on wlan after?

Device is currently being restored via companion software so I can't test this right now.
Can you confirm that airplane mode survives a full device reboot?
Im not sure if its the same with stock rom, but with cyanogenmod 11 the airplane mode survive a reboot.

My stock 4.2 C6502 airplane mode survives a reboot and a full shutdown turn on cycle. Should not be a problem, I did something similiar with my xperia play, no sim card, airplane mode, battery standby is weeks. wifi only when needed.
I can confirm that Airplane mode survives reboot/shut down on 6506 stock 4.2.2 rooted.
Also, battery life is amazing. After a full hour of screen on time, functioning as a remote, as well as additional time being on while I flashed, rooted and debloated some apps in TiBu, I dropped a whopping 3%.

I'm surprised since normally your screen consumes the most power while in use...
I know that network polling for various applications can also devastate your battery... would be interesting to see what average use time looks like when you're running it this way - not necessarily useful for a phone user... but interesting none the less.

I have mine on 100% (a.k.a. Always On) at the moment, with Gmail, hello (for text messages) and Talon (for Twitter) set as Active on Standby. That's all I use heavily now anyway, as I don't have a Facebook account and I neglected my Google plus for some time now (plus it generates a huge amount of data transfer in the background).
Never used it on my Z and don't use it on this either, so long as I can get a good days use out of the Phone I'm happy.

[Q] Does Stamina icon appear always regardless of activation setting

Just wanted to confirm if this is normal or a bug... I have Stamina mode kicking in at 40% only, but the Stamina icon is always showing. In fact, I think Stamina mode for my phone is always on regardless of my activation setting because the estimated battery life is always in terms of days.
Is anyone else seeing the same behavior as I?

I don't think so, again, if stamina mode needs to be activated for it to kick in whatever the level you set it at, it's going to display the icon.

This isn't how it works with JB, however - the old icon only appears when battery reaches the set level and the Stamina mode actually kicks in.
So yes, we can regard this as a bug in KK, or at least an oversight, like many half-baked features of this update from Sony.

Right, JB on my ZR only shows the Stamina icon when it's actually on, not when it's merely enabled. Unless the activation percentage level is actually completely broken, so enabling Stamina always means it's on in KK.
Hence my original question.
If that icon is bothering you so much, why don;t you just hide it ?
I personally keep stamina mode ON all the time and I created a white list with apps that are allowed to sync while the device is dormant.
The stamina icon is hidden from the statusbar.

Oh right, that answers that then. It's not something I've ever used tbh as I see it as a bit gimmikie.
