I've been a greedy Cyanogenmod user for the past 2 years on my Samsung Galaxy S, which has now been replaced by a Galaxy Nexus. I'm in love with the smooth vanilla experience, but going nightly tempts me. I'm well aware of all the features added by the Cyanogenmod team, but I'm also aware CM10 is still unstable. So the question is, is it worth it flashing CM10 for it's great additions even if it's unstable?
Also, what degree of "unstableness" are we talking about?

Well, compared to the galaxy s, it is very stable. Since its AOSP which is made for the galaxy nexus, the bugs isn't that frequent.

I haven't used CM10 for several weeks I also used Euroskank CM10 before that and both were stable then. I assume that it is even better now.
I can't think of a JB ROM yet that I would call "unstable".

Should I flash cyanogenmod?
I have ran both 9 and 10, personally I found 9 to be a more stable enviroment, specailly the early builds
I've been on cm 10 nightlies since they came out. I will admit there were a couple major bugs at first but those have pretty much have been ironed out. I say flash and enjoy.

Its rare to find any ROM for the GN unstable in my opinion. I have pretty much flashed every ROM in my thread with minor problems if any.

If you have issues with the gnex using CM its usually fixed in the next nightly. It is possible that you have issues with CM specific features. Those also get fixed pretty darn quick. In general, using cyanogenmod with official good phones are a safe bet that you have the best of cm and most stable out of any other cm phone until stable releases.

Flash it. It is pretty stable for daily use IMO. Its just that screen may flicker at times, settings might fc at certain times and some settings might be left blank (in my case Gallery settings is empty).
so yea, its really worth a flash and if you dont like it, there's always NANDROID.
CM10 is rock solid for this phone IMHO. The only reason I bought the gsm version of this phone is because it is supported so well by the cyanogenmod team.
I say flash it. You won't regret it.

If you use a different Gapps package, ie Formula, the blank settings should be fixed.

also a ex-galaxy s user here, let me tell you, it's not just cm, all have roms are built from the ROM source available (gapps/device binaries are proprietary, but still), not just the kernel, like it was on i9000.
flash anything you want. roll your own if you want.

I have also migrated from galaxy s ( with cm 10) to gnex stock jb. I don't feel the need to flash anymore.... I am loving the stability of stock jb. I needed notification toggles n t9 dialer so I downloaded apps from play store.

Dude I'm in the same situation like you. Switched from galaxy s to nexus and tryed more than one rom on it.
You can try Cyanogenmod to see how it develops on your phone but I would recommend using Codename Android. It's much more stable and you can configure a TON of settings.
Try them out.
I like both 9 and 10 and found the night lies a lot more stable then the cm7 night lies. I still like cm7 more though
I havent had the sgs3 for too long I am currently running the latest jb mr1-build 5. I tried Jamisons march 15 build and it is just as good. I do love being on the bleeding edge of things but right now I need my phone to be stable and I cant keep switching roms and stuff. So I ask you what is the most stable AOKP rom for this phone in your opinion. I figured I woulf start with JB milestone 1. I would rather not go to ics unless it is dramatically better. I know that The ICS version of AOKP had alot more features for the sgs2 but I think that since this device has JB from the factory offically it should be just as stable. And I am not saying mr1 build 5 is not stable but it keeps freezing and having random reboots and the phone part keeps freezing. Other things I can handle but right now I need my phone for business and cant have it messin with me.
Thanks for your opinions

I'm running Jamison's Mar15 build with ktoonsez KT747 kernel. It's solid for me. No issues so far. Have you tried his LTS build, which is stable build that he put out for those not wanting to flash the nightlies?
Anything from Jamison is going to be stable. I'm running his 3/18 ROM and haven't had any problems.

Thanks for youyr opinions. I was using the latest builds but I kept haveing some issues with the phone dialer part. Nothing really major. Usually I am the guy who is up all night waiting for the latest to come out. But at the moment I need no issues so that is what I am looking for. I found it with AOKP JB milestone 1. It is 4.1 so it reflects what stock is. I find that once a phone gets an update to say 4.1 from 4.0 the AOSP roms get more stable. I dont know if it is true or if it makes sence to anyone it is just something I noticed. So far I havent had any issues with AOKP JB milestone 1. As soon as I can I will go back to the nightlies and 4.2 but for now its 4.1 for me. Again thanks for the input I never really do anything without asking this community. Amazing how much I have come to trust a bunch of people I never met before but I do.

official build 5. build 6 freezes and drains battery -__-
Weird that you're getting freezes and resets using JB-MR1 Build 5. I've been using it for about a month with no problems at all. Solid as a rock. Build 6, as has been said, is kind of flaky. Although to be fair, it is a known issue for our phone.
US Galaxy S3 variants (d2s) may be unstable due to the new 3.4 based kernel

This is my first experience with AOKP. I had been running stock (rooted) since I got the phone 6 months ago, and I probably wouldn't have moved off of it except I got caught in a freeze/reboot loop and had to do a factory reset. On my Nexus One, I was a big CM 7 fan. But with all the reported issues with CM 10.1 on the GS3, I decided not to even try it.
They say that 4.4 will be much more lite to be able to run on low end 512 devices, any devs having some cravings?
I'm still running flinnycm101_vision_22 (Android 4.2.2), and I'm looking forward to 4.4 as wel as you, especially because since 4.3 should include SELinux by default and because it uses less resources (which could make stuff easier for Devs).
4.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402643
I'll be visiting http://andromadus.flinny.org/ regularly, as wel as this forum.
I'm running the CM10.1 rom as well, and loving it. I think that KitKat will be ported over, or so I hope. I do have some of the features from it, such as the launcher and the new hangouts, running on it (You can search for a Nexus 5 rom rip on DroidLife to find them since I can't post links yet.) We will see -crosses fingers-

Which is exactly why I'm slowly researching into porting roms.
Hello there. I'm using FXP CM10 since May 2013. I want to try something new, but as I read all ROMs seem buggy and messy. Is there anything 100% complete and working(like the CM10), that is Android 4.3 or 4.4? Recommend me a ROM please. I mean totally bug-less, I can't afford to tolerate reboots or battery drains.
Thanks!

The least buggy build is 4.2.2 CM by RaymanFX. I suggest you don't try 4.4/4.3 as you'll be very disappointed.
That's it for almost a year? Very disappointing development for XS

Quite a judgmental statement. There aren't many developers left for the XS. It's a miracle that RaymanFX has spent countless hours on his own on this device. If you're not happy, you should get a new phone or learn to develop ROM's yourself.
Probably a new device. Thanks for quick info!
I've been using several betas of CM11, Carbon ROM and now Paranoid Android 4.2/4.3 and i have to say PA works pretty well, a lot more stable than the first two. Except for screenshots and fuzzy images in recents bar I haven't encountered any problems so far in the newest beta 2 of Paranoid Android 4.3. It's fast, stable and battery life is good. deedwar said hes working on the screenshot thing if rayman doesn't beat him to it. Oh, and the xperia S has official legacy support including OTA updates. I can't say that its working 100% because all 4.4 roms lack things like hdmi (I never even used that once) and some other stuff, but for everyday use its ok. there's no harm in trying it out.
Hi all Gnex MAGURO owner.
I just want to share my new setup on my Gnex.
For all the gnex roms i flashed from 4.3 to 5.1, all i can say that some KK are more stable than LP. on my experience so far now on LP Zmod is the most simple LP rom but after a wekk i got Lags and slow response.
so far now you can have SlimLP and RR if you want to have an LP which will last for months.
But if you want to stick on KK better have CM coz until now CM has always updates for our maguro also you can have SlimLP build 9 if you want to exprience SlimPie.
but if you WANT to have MORE STABLE better have the stock (last google support) which im using now for 2weeks and its battery life is awesome, i can play music for 4-5hrs, play game for 3-4hrs, surfing for 3-4hrs.
so now which will you want to flash? LP? KK? JBstock?

well at first i'm using Zmod and its one of my favorite ROM bug its getting laggy same with Unofficial CM 12.1 so far on me RR on its latest build is okay but im not that sure how long will it last that it won get laggy on the other hand SlimLp is also good coz its miscellaneous batt drain is gone now but for me all LP has slow response with takes 2-4sec before an app will open. then when using LP those HD games or big size games are getting laggy and slow response.
to all sorry for making this thread its just i'm to concern on our maguro yeah its 3yrs old on the market but still i love this phone.
I think there is nothing to apologize. This thread is OK at this precise moment because some of us are getting a big trouble finding the right rom for our beloved gnexes.
LP = Laggish, memory always exhausted, not responsive, not performant, not a good user experience.
KK = Problems with Google Play Services.
JB = 4.3 too old?.
Solution: get a new sexy phone! xD
Is this me or this should go on Q&A?
Stock 4.1.2 best rom and stock kernel I use 2 weeks and no problem
The problem with 4.3 roms and older are exactly that, they are old. Our Gnex runs KitKat extremelly well as AOSP KitKat proves it so there's no reason to be on 4.3 or older for performance alone.
Let's hope for some love on KitKat roms that solve the PlayServices force close (and maybe the battery drain since my phone is keeping its "Deep Sleep" state for over 94% in 3 days without charging since I'm not using it and it's just laying on the desk but the battery still drains really fast). I'm seing like 5% drain evey hour even with those stats. If I use the phone the battery drains like 10% hour so the "sleeping" is very lousy.
Well, maybe with the optimized "Lollipop" in Android M we can get something off the new system on our Gnex, but for now, 4.4.4 with some love in terms of Google Play Services bugfix and battery draining would be perfect. Please note that I'm not demanding anything, I'm just stating what I believe would be very stable in our phone and what I would like to use. I also believe the majority of gnex owners already have a second phone and like to have the latest software in their phones (and may not mind the lag and abuse of RAM since they don't use the phone for continuous time). But for the ones who still have this one as their trophy in the pocket, I believe that wether having KitKat running well or Lollipop running almost well, we would prefer KitKat.
Hi,
for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-t3026583
Is one of the best, very stable and very fast and support f2fs very well, unfortunately the autor, "sgspluss", not updating anymore, and there is also the problem with play services in common with all KK roms. Until GOOGLE resolve this issue.
but the rom i posted is 4.3 and based on latest ROM aviable.
i dont know but it was the best experience i had: no lagg no stutter good battery and performance
I'm using Official CM 11 by Ziyan ATM, and the Google Play Services FCs are gone. Not as fast as other KK roms, but hey, everything is working

I was about to comment the same. I'm on nightlys, everything works. The problem with CM is once you start updating the nightlys it tends to get very sluggish, I don't know why. It does look like the best choice for now.

well said my friend. yeah your right with it KK has this problems right now.
Thanks for participating for this thread and sorry for making this thread i'm just wondering what would be your point of view for our maguro. Yeah some of us has their 2nd phones already but its just so awful that living this legacy phone that sudden. Some of us uses this phone as their daily driver and still using it cause its still working and not enough money to buy one. I'm just concern to those people who's still using this legacy phone that is why i made this thread.
LP right now is not that good enough for our gnex
KK also have this googleplay services problem and the fast drain battery
on JB its too old (yeah your right) but some says it is more stable on its battery life and its ram (without exposed) the problem for JB is the apps of the those huge games that may cause slow on gaming.
