TWEAKED soon 2.0 NOTE 3

I have a very small crack there too.

Thanks folks. I did not drop it. I think it may be the case being too tight especially when I try to take it out.
I called Samsung and they would look at it and do diaognostics for free. The spokes person said
they may be able to replace the bezel for about $70 but I don't think they would actually do that. I'm sure their technician
will recommend replacing the screen, even though the screen it is not broken, cause it is all tightly glued together. Thats over $200.
I think it is kind of a bait and switch. Second. I don't want them to do dianositics. I just want them to fix the part. But they refuse to fix anything
without doing diagnositics. Go figure. Btw, showed it to a samsung sales person at best buy and low and behold he had the same crack and
the same case! It is called tech21 impactology. I bought it the first day I got the N3...
EDIT: Anyways. I don't know for sure what really happened, even if someone with the same case had the same problem. Correlation is not the same as causal but it makes you wonder.
EDIT: My sympathies @willham

I have the same cracked in the same exact spot! But I have a few cases, so I don't know which one could have caused it. I have never dropped my phone since I bought it back in October.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

I have the exact same crack in the exact same location. Must be a place of high stress. Not overally worried, but sucks cause otherwise mine is in mint condition. And I have dropped it a few times though, sitting on the toliet to the floor, off the couch, off the bed etc. No major drops though. I have the supcase unicorn beetle case on it since I've owned it.

[Q] Replacement Screen!

Yo guys, Had a bad day today.... Broke the screen on my phone. Does anyone know where to get replacement screen's from now a day's? Preferably not Ebay as i hate it but If that's the only place i guess i must. Now I have checked ebay but the ammount of Galaxy Nexus S Screen's that are on there it didn't seam like anyone would have any replacement screen's... could be wrong though! Any help appreciated

You broke the screen already!? What happened?
You not going to tell me that you didn't insure device worth 500quid?

ill admit that this is the first phone ive had that i DID insure !
What happened? ... How is broke?
I was wondering how long it would be before someone killed one. I very much doubt you'll have any luck sourcing a screen for one this soon after it's release, your only choice might be to contact Samsung regarding repair I'm afraid.
Haha, yep I broke the screen. Well I've cracked it any whoo. Still working perfectly fine . I dropped it yesterday when I was walking to work. Landed right on a curb....
Yeah I didn't insure it, never dropped the previous phones I've had, this ones a slippery bugger though.
I didn't think there'd be screens out yet, I'll keep my eyes posted for some. Anyone know any decent sites to check?

There wont be any replacement screens out for quite a while im afraid, maybe 6 months or more as this is such a new phone and all available stock will be going to make the phone itself or held by samsung for repairs. As mentioned before your only option if you want it fixed is to send it back to samsung for repair or claim under your contents insurance if you have accidental cover.
Mark.

do you have accidental damage on your home insurance? might be worth checking if they will cover you that way. All my gadgets are covered this way, whether inside or outside the house.
God know's ha, I'm currently living at my mother's so no idea if she has or not! Ahhh well, as i said i didn't expect there to be any screens. I can still use the phone, and at the moment can't be arsed with the hassil of ringing all these place's to check if they will replace it. Thanks anyway's guys, Got a perspective from it if anything .
Did you pay for it with a credit card? You may be covered for accidental damage eg barclaycard:

Buy eligible goods worth over £50 with a Visa or MasterCard credit card and they will be protected against accidental damage, loss or theft for the first 90 days, subject to an excess of £50. You might want to look into a warranty like square trade. I was looking at insurance options myself and square trade seems to be the best. They allow you to buy insurance for a phone that is up to 30 days old. It might not be the most ethical thing to do to buy it for an already broken phone but they wouldn't offer that service if it wasn't profitable for them.
The plan is not cheap, and there is a deductible for replacement but it beats having a broken phone for 2 years.

I am shocked . 500 quid phone barely a couple of weeks old and you can't be arsed to get it fixed? I would have literally in tears!
i saw on eBay it has already full housing.
The only parts site I know of is cnn.cn.
It doesn't look like they have anything for this phone right now though.
Well it isn't that bad. I can still use the phone perfectly and only notice the cracks when the screen is off. I can't get hold of a screen and am not dealing with insurance company a cause I feel them to be a majour pain in the arse. No point in getting worked up over something I can't change . I'll buy a screen when I find one online. Thanks for all your options though

I'll be going to china on december 7-8 and 14-16, i'll check it out for you, i'll look on the 7, and let you know, and if the price is ok, you can paypal me and i'll buy it on the dec 14, at present i'm searching for white nexus s battery cover for members in this forum.
dont expect the screen to be cheap, i remember the nexus s screen cost approximate USD 120 when the phone was first released.
I have had my Galaxy Nexus for 5 days, and have also cracked the screen.
Problem is I have no idea how it happened. Phone was fine this morning when I set out for work and put it in my trouser pockets. But when i got to work and went to use it there was a huge crack across the screen, about at the point where the curve starts.
So i thought i would try my luck and see if I could get it replaced under warranty, as i had not dropped it or damaged it in any other way, so felt it was a manufacturing defect. Unfortunately I had no luck. As far a Phones4u (Where ig got it from) are concerned a cracked screen is accidental damage, so i will have to pay to get it repaired.
Then they quoted me a cost of £40-£70 for the repair, with the final cost inside that range depending on the amount of damage they had to fix. Now if the fix comes in under £70 i will be extremely happy. When i broke a Galaxy S screen it was £70 for the part alone, so under £70 for the part and fix looks like a good deal, so i accepted thinking i would get nowhere with my warranty argument.
I am waiting for the catch as currently it sounds too good to be true, as i was expecting something closer to £200. I will let you all know how it goes.
Pics or it didn't happen
telepathically sent with my Galaxy Nexus which is being imprisoned by FedEx
pics
same thing happened to me, dropped from 2 feet onto linoleum.
still very usable, only somewhat annoying. guess i will wait a few months for replacements to appear. in the meantime i am ordering a case. also just want to say i have never dropped and broken a phone in my life before this.

[Q] Worst Build Quality of a Phone

I've owned my Galaxy SIII for almost three months now and it probably has the most defects out of any phone I've ever owned. The hardware buttons are loose, the back cover doesn't stay down on all the corners, and the back cover came with hairline cracks already on it. However, the final thing that really made me consider getting a replacement is the fact that the back cover doesn't even hold the battery in all the time. When I set my phone down on a hard surface without being extra gentle, the phone turns off. I temporarily solved this by putting a folded up piece of paper under the battery cover to keep the battery in better, but I don't think this should be necessary for a $200 flagship phone. I'm already over the 30 day return period, but would these reasons qualify for me getting a replacement phone under warranty?
I have 0 defects. My phone costed 549
Anyways call sammy and send it in for warranty
Yea I'd get a new one I paid $649 for mine and its perfect no problems at all!

Lol this is still by far the best phone I've ever owned, but it doesn't make up for bad quality assurance on Samsung's part. I'm going to get this replaced and hope the next one I get still underclocks and accepts kernels as well as the one I have now.

Sorry for being blatantly sarcastic but loose buttons, cover not seating properly, battery falling out, and cracks? Obviously it was damaged. Before you got it. Pretty sure I'd return a TV with a cracked screen right away before stating it was the worst build quality of any TV ever due to dead pixels and screen flickers and the picture going wonky. I mean, come on man lol. Those defects absolutely would have qualified.. had you reported it right away.

I agree with the group consensus; is there any reason you're reluctant to bring it back? Do you feel guilty about dropping it or something? If not you should be on your way to the store and hope the phone gods have mercy on you since the 30 day return period is over.

Since you're pass the warranty buy a new back cover or a case like an Otter commuter, it will keep the battery and button in place...btw still dont get why you didn't exchange it if it came with a cracked back. Lets see pictures of all these defects!
Wow, I did a COMPETE work over on my phone when I was getting it, checked EVERYTHING, the sales rep was getting a little agitated, but I ask her, if she were spending $500+ on a phone wouldn't you check everything? She shut her pie hole quick, and had her get another one once. Oh well.
Unlike some of you, I actually have enough hand-eye coordination skills to keep my phone in my hand. Cases are bulky and for the clumsy. I am still under the one year warranty and the hairline cracks are only visible from one specific angle. They're really not bad defects, but they just add up and get annoying. I'm only asking if this is worth getting my phone replaced because I don't want to restore to stock for no reason.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
....... again..... if it had these defects.... and they've "added up" to become annoying.... why exactly did you decide to wait 3 months to try to do anything about it?
And if you think that cases are "bulky and for the clumsy"... then the only cases you must see anywhere are OtterBox Defenders and such. Did you ever hear of TPU? next to no bulk added to the phone (about as thick as a DVD... roughly), and gives the phone a bit nicer feel in the hand. Plus makes it a LOT less slippery than with no case at all. I've never dropped a phone either, but i'm not the type that's willing to risk the off chance that something DOES happen that a little bit nicer grip could have prevented.
The only "issue" (if you can even call it that) that i have with my phone that you are also experiencing is the loose volume/power button... which i'm pretty sure EVERYONE is experiencing. They aren't screwed into the phone in any way. They are slotted in, as they are for just about every phone. Yes, they're slightly loose, but it's not like they're ever going to just up and fall out of the phone.
At this point i'm tempted to ask if the hairline cracks you speak of are actual cracks or if you're just seeing the brushed finish of the back of the phone (assuming you have the Pebble Blue)
Still... why did you wait 3 months? Especially with the battery issue and such. I can toss my phone onto my bed, cover or no cover, and it doesn't shut off cause the battery popped out of place.
I've worked in the wireless industry for over 10 years I've yet to see anyone keep a phone out of the box with parts literally falling off and out of the phone. Hell I've never seen that at all for that matter. I can guarantee you've dropped that phone and I doubt that stuff happened out of the box. You may be in the on year warranty but if it has that sort of physical damage good luck getting it replaced.

S III Durability

Hi folks
I'm considering getting the S III but am not sure about the screen durability as i've heard a lot of mixed reviews. How durable is it? Looking at some break tests on youtube suggests that the screen is a lot more sensitive as compared to other phone. Is that true?
btw, what is a good case for this device ?
Thanks!

I dunno if this counts, but I keep dropping mine and the only damage so far is a little scratching on the corner of the outer plastic bezel when I dropped it once pretty hard on some rough tar. I haven't seen any other blemishes on the case, and so far no scratching at all on the glass. I loved my Nexus One, but the glass on that scratched pretty easy just sitting in my pocket. Not so with the SIII, no scratches at all on the glass in the 3 mo I've had the phone.
I don't have a case for it.
Bigger the screen... The easier its going to break. Simple.

Similar experience...phone dropped from my pocket while sitting, landed on the corner, cracked screen...probably hit the weak spot on the phone, regardless, shouldn't break that easily IMO..
It is not durable at all compared to my previous phones (gs2, hd2) if you drop it there will be serious cosmetic damage. The plastic is extremely soft.

Get an Otter Box, you pay that much for a phone then spend an extra 50 bucks to keep it safe.
Get a case if your gonna pick up the GS3... its a beautiful phone but you need to make sure you can protect it... I dropped my phone 4 times since I got it and thank God I bought a case for it. If I didn't have one, then my screen would have been shattered already

yea that's why i'm hesitant in buying it (3 actually). The issue seems widespread and if it is a case of bigger screen then it is a serious design flaw or maybe a manufacturing flaw. At this point im probably going to put off buying this phone but let's see if things change

I feel like the S II was way more durable. But that's why I bought insurance for this phone. Never had insurance on any other device. And the fact that I have an extended battery and there really aren't any good cases for extended batteries made me get the insurance.

It's a phone and it uses glass, it doesn't matter what phone it is if your looking at Youtube and their hitting it with a hammer or dragging a razor over the screen then it's gonna do as expected. It's almost comical that people do these tests considering you spend money on the phone you should be responsible for it and take care of it. Accidents happen and the carriers know this so instead take care of your property, it doesn't matter who made it or what some moron with a hammer says.
all that is fine but generally speaking one does expect some level of durability for a device that costs upwards of $700 dollars, specially if the company is touting the latest and greatest gorilla glass 2 as one of the main features of the phone. Cellphones break when dropped, everyone should know that. But the amount of complaints i've come across regarding the S III and the different ways the screen is getting damaged is quite abnormal to say the least.
Anyway, i'm still debating whether i should pass on this phone or go for it. Anything new coming up in the coming weeks?

You never hear the whole story either when people give these reviews, "I had it in my pocket and the screen cracked" turns into I was drunk and fell down the stairs.
I still have all of my devices in perfect shape and it all comes down to how well someone takes care of their things. If your gonna carry the phone in your pocket with your car keys then its gonna happen, I see it all the time and like you said at $700.00 you should act like it's worth it. You want an honest opinion on the device? It's worth every penny but the one thing that would make me warm and fuzzy about it is if HTC built the body. It still feels solid but theres nothing like a well built frame like you would find on the One S or X. No other device comes close to the functionality and multitasking that this one does and I own 8 myself (different devices not all cells.)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
yup the One X is really nice too. Too bad t-mobile doesn't carry it.
I'm going to call t-mobile again and see if i could get a better deal on the S iii's than what they offered me ($179 per phone)

Screen toughness

So I've had my note 2 for about 4 days. Paid full retail $700. First thing this morning I dropped it and boom goes my screen. My problem is. I was sitting and it only dropped about 2 feet. Onto a soft wood porch floor. By soft wood I mean it is and old porch and needs replaced. The wood is old and soft. also the phone landed on the back. I feel like any phone should be able to survive such a small drop. Not to mention we have the new ultra durable gorrilla glass 2. Right? Wrong. Samsung refuses to even consider helping me out. It is against policy they say because I dropped it. But I think a device like this should have been able to handle such a drop. If I dropped it from 5-6 feet or if I dropped it on concrete I would understand. I have had 2 vibrants. 2 galaxy s2. 2 galaxy s3. And now the note. Paid full retail for all of them because I use straighttalk. I would think being such a loyal customer would mean something. Guess I was wrong. They will fix it for me. For about $200 and I have to ship it to them then be without a phone until it is shipped back. Not cool samsung... not cool.

Did you pay via a credit card? My card (citi dividends) has a 90 day protection against loss, theft and accidental damage. Check if you card has the same, then see if you can send them the $200 bill and they should pay you that. Also, most credit cards add a year onto the warranty, so keep your reciept

Gorilla glass is hard, not durable. The hardness makes it scratch resistant, the tradeoff is it becomes brittle. Just like diamond, super hard but hit the right spot and its dust.
That said we all are owners of a super hi tech device that is NEVER MEANT TO BE DROPPED.
If it even survives 1 mishap, consider the gods smiling down on you.
Sucks but I think we expect too much.

I agree. Its not supposed to be indestructable. But also I expect it to withstand normal wear and tear. Like I said if it had been a drop from maybe 4 foot or higher, or a drop on concrete I would understand. Also like I previously said. I have bought every samsung phone since the vibrant. Actually 2. Of each me and my girl. And I paid full retail for all of them. They have all been registered with samsung. And I have never asked them for anything extra for free. But in this situation I believe the phone should have held up. And it didn't. Not even close, it was such a small drop and the entire screen is shattered. If you seen it you woukd think it was hit with a hammer. It still works,I just think my loyalty to them over the past few years could be rewarded with at least a slight break in the price. I'm all about samsung, I should be a salesman the way I try to push there products just because they are good products. And I feel they are looking at me like well look how much money he has dropped before with us. He'll just pay what it takes to fix his phone. And they are right. I just feel they could help me out.

Dude, **** happens. I already dropped mine from about 4 feet. I freaked out. With no case. Just has a knick on the spen and a mark on the side.
The bigger the screen the more likely it will crack on impact.

I'm not stupid I know **** happens. My point is you dropped yours from 4 feet and got a small nic. I dropped mine from 2 feet and my screen is destroyed. The phone should have held up to such a light impact. This post is more to warn people of how fragile the phone is than anything. So there is no need to come in and tell me **** happens like I'm some idiot saying oh my god I didn't think a phone could break. I am aware of how much a device is suppoed to be able to handle. These screens should be able to handle what mine didn't. So again more than anything a warning for everyone else to be careful. There are not as durable as they try to make you think.

Kind of the price we pay for not having to carry a 10 lb brick in a shoulder bag. Everyone want light and thin.

You obviously are missing the point. This can happen with ANY phone. Your phone just fell the "right" way. It doesnt mean its anymore fragile. So yeah...**** happens.

Your phone must have taken the hit in the perfect spot to shatter. This past Sunday at church, some of the youth were looking at my note II while I was having a conversation with someone else. A couple of the middle school boys were fighting over it and my phone flung out of their hands, hit the wall behind me where we were sitting, and it slammed the ground about 3 to 4 feet down. The battery and cover popped off, but there was little damage. All I can see now is a barely noticeable, tiny crack on the battery case, which is replaceable. The screen is as pristine as ever though. Side lesson? Don't ever let your note II out of sight when it's in the hands of a middle school boy. Or you can be the grinch of the group and not let the boys see it at all (girls are ok though).

I don't think you understand the differences between gorilla glass 1 and 2. 2 only got thinner, not more durable. These screens should not, and will not, be able to handle even a tiny drop. And on top of all this, you called Samsung expecting them to help?

thanks for the warning.. might put a case back on but damn shes so sexy naked
That's a screw job if I ever heard of one, plus it sounds like you got a bad model. Mine survived a drop from a 6ft ladder onto solid concrete landing point blank on the corner with nothing but a scuff of the plastic that you can't even tell without me pointing it out.
It's just messed up that they won't replace it for you after such a short period of time

And....That is why I bought a Square Trade coverage plan for about $5.75 per month after a discount.
As a famous man said **** does happen.
$5.68 = peace of mind.
Your screen breakage makes me shudder.
Sorry for your ****.

It's just bad business. I work in a customer oriented job, part of it is dealing with exchanges and whatnot, if you sell something and it breaks within a short amount of time regardless of the reason it's better to just replace it for them, on the grounds of good service and company image.
Had it been awhile then it'd be another story, but less then a week makes it look like you won't return or replace it cause you expect it to be a trend and have no faith in the product. And really there's money to be made there, charge a fee of some sort, replace the unit then fix the screen on the old one and sell it. Or just charge to replace the screen, that'd be the most fair offer to both and it'd make samsung look like it has good support for the customer.
Of course if he'd just bought insurance it'd be a moot point. 4.97/mo from tmobile, best thing to do by far

Broken Screen With Defender otterbox

Yes you read right got a crack on the screen right in the top corner. Out of sight as long as the case is on. I wouldn't recommend the defender has fallen apart. I'll post a pic tonight.

Please do post a photo. Just got my wife an Otterbox Defender for her t-mo gs3. Now, I'm worried b/c I assured her that the case was rock solid.

Unfortunatly, i don't think any case is going to be 100% bullet proof. I've dropped mine several times in my Defender, the case has a few dings and chew marks from the ground.. Phone is pristine as the day I brought it home. However, that's why I have the insurance as well.. Just of the oh sh*t moment when something does go wrong lol
Dang, I dropped my old Evo LTE with the defender on many times as well as my wife did and never a single scratch. I now have the defender on my S3 and pray it holds up because I no longer have Sprints ridiculously expensive insurance. I also would love to see these pictures.

Unfortunately no case can fully protect you. Did you drop it? If you did how far of a drop was it? I will be looking for your pic post.

What did you do with the phone? In order to make a defender fall apart, you really have to do a lot of damage. And yes, while the cases are meant to protect the phone, with enough trauma any phone would break, regardless of the case. If you drop it ten stories off a roller coaster, I don't think the Defender would do too well in defending it (but if you want to get me a phone/case/admission-ticket-to-six-flags, I'll test it for you).
I've had my defender case on my phone for months and it has taken a few hard falls with no problems..
I have and will always support the otterbox line up commuter, defender and soon the armor that being said ive been using the defender cases since the original htc evo, htc evo 3d, htc evo design, samsung s2 ( epic touch 4g) and now my s3 ive personally have dropped all my phones at least a handful of times from ear level and ive banged up my case chiped it but never had any issues with my phones..... Like one of the other comments posted a case no matter what case will not 100% protect it.... I personally think you had a faulty / weak phone and unfortunately when you dropped it your phone it found that weak spot.... Sorry for you bad luck... Hope you have insurance

Correct me if I'm wrong, I've never bought an Otterbox before.... but a friend of mine told me that if you drop your phone in an Otterbox and it breaks, they (Otterbox) will replace your phone for you, for free. Or am I thinking of another case making company?

No case manufacturer will replace the phone. They will just replace the case if your within the warranty range.

I was watching shark task last night, and there is one company that sells cases and and it comes with an "insurance" plan. They'll fix any accidental physical damage caused while it's in their case, but it costs $50 and they won't send you a new phone, they'll just switch out the screen.
If I can remember the name of the company, I'll edit this post, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

That policy would be abused big time. Keep case at home, naked phone, if phone breaks then just call OB and say my phone broke in your case.

$30 that's a good deal, though what videos did you use, cause I would like to try myself. I got a crack in my screen too, though I didn't have it in a case Btw, someone mentioned sprint insurance, but that doesn't cover damage if I'm remembering correctly?

The TEP covers damage, but it has a $150 deductible.
I honestly still want to see the picture of the broken phone screen. I have my Otterbox Defender and I've dropped it countless times and not a scratch from these falls. the case looks poorly because of how beaten up it is but I take my phone out and people still ask me "New phone?" lol. The only damage I've seen is from dust getting under the screen protecter and causing minute scratches but I sometimes work in a very dusty and harsh environment and yet, it doesn't even look like its been exposed to much dust. The Otterbox Defender Series is just that good. I even had an issue with my case, contacted customer support, within a reasonable waiting period the new case arrived. Extremely good customer support as well. Too bad people abuse these things.
