[Q] New User Question Help!!! AT&T S3 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello everyone,
I have searched far and wide for this and found no answer, so any help is appreciated.
I have a:
AT&T S3 i747
Baseband: i747UCDLK3
I installed CM 10,2 stable the latest version, but unfortunately it gives me a few problems here and there (Front camera problem, and somethings while using data with whatsapp or facebook it freezes and reboots.
My question is, Can I install the latest AT&T firmware Android 4.3 even if it's for a different baseband, or in any case is there a solution for the problems above.
Thanks in advance for any help

Nop, you can't. If you need 4.3, you definitely need bootloader update. Atleast to MJ2.
CM require certain bootloader updates for things work perfectly. Check their site. Here they clearly said need an update to bootloader. http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/37696/.
One thing, read before flash. yeah, time matters, but when bricked; again time matter for new device with lot of hard earned $$$.

I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
So I should flash the latest bootloader I747UCUEMJB - Oct 11, 2013, so I can install the AT&T firmware?
I was just a little confused because I couldn't find anything on the subject (going from CDLK3 to CUEMJB)
I just want to make sure so I dont brick the phone.
Thanks alot

If you ever need to return to stok rom; stick to MG2 for safe. But make sure odin won't update your bootloader afterwards.

^ This. There is really no need to go past MG2. And you will still be able to downgrade if needed. I am running MG2 and CM 11 works fine.

I can confirm this. I'm on CM 10.2.1 and MG2 bootloader and have no issues. Stick with MG2.

Yea, stay away from MJB. My phone just like others works fine on MG2. 4.3 and MJB has only caused headaches around here without very many answers. Of course you are going to have exceptions whose phones are just fine with MJB, but you will have a lot of those headaches if your phone is not one of them.

Take a look in the android dev sections to this forum. If you ever update once rooted, you should be flashing a new ROM (clean or dirty flashing) to receive the next update. Running stock ROM in between a Sammy update and while having the older ROM without the newest update will yield that result.

There are plenty of reasons for rooting but remaining stock (such as: tethering, Droid wall, Titanium Backup to allow me to backup and restore app data, removing bloat, etc).
I have flashed custom rooms in the past on my Evo but right now I am happy with my S3 at stock.

I was in the same boat at you. I put it off for a while but finally decided to update tonight. I followed the steps posted here.
You can update your baseband by flashing a properly packaged official baseband zip, or flash from recovery tool (my preference), like the one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29820376. There are also unofficial, or leaked basebands, available to flash from all-in-one zips, such as the one here: http://goo.im/devs/freeza/Galaxy-S-fre3-LIGFirmwareModemAIO.zip.
As far as the build version goes, that does not have to match your baseband (modem). Most of the ICS ROMs are LG8, although there are some LI3 ICS ROMs to choose from. There's also a leaked build of Jellybean, builds LIF & LIG, with a third leak LIH reportedly coming out tomorrow. Once rooted, you can update your build version by flashing the ROM of your choice, based upon the build of your choice.
One of the top developers, and probably the greatest asset to this community, is freeza. He explained the difference very well here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32095775
That's a long-winded response, but I hope it answered your original question, and helps you out.
Have fun!
Edit: Once you're rooted, you'll still receive OTA update notifications, which will continually annoy you until you choose to update and reboot. Once you reboot, the update will fail because of your custom recovery (you will NOT lose root) and the notification will go away....until the next OTA...

Excuse me for my stupidity but I'm new to android. I'm also using the sprint variant of the s3 and have it rooted with stock rom. However my build number is IMM76D.L710VPALF9. I'm assuming the last 3 are the update versions. What is the current version and how do I update to it?
Also, I'm rooted with Clockwork mod 5.5.0.4. How do I upgrade this to version 6.0.1.2? Will I have to unroot then root again?
Thanks for clearing anything you can up. Don't mean to pirate the OP but I figured I'd post in this thread rather than make a new one. Thanks again.

You can flash a new recovery using ODIN, or Mobile ODIN. I use Mobile ODIN. There's a thread on recoveries here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31894089
As far as the versions, see my previous post on this thread.

That is one of the reasons that I am rooted... so I can use WiFi Tether. I do not it much. Hardly any data at all. But when I am in a spot and need a wireless connection and I only have my phone it comes in handy.
Some other reasons:
- DroidWall: Lets me block individual apps from accessing the internet.
- AddFree: Block ads in some apps.
why would you do that?

[Q] Update bootloader?

Device: AT&T Galaxy S3
Rom:[ROM] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.2 )Task650 (5.14.2013) (AT&T)
I wanted to update to the devs newest release but i need to update my bootloader in order to do so and ive never done that so if you have any advice or something i can read up on that would be awesome
I "I made some ODIN-flashable files that contain the bootloader, RPM, TZ, and baseband of the stated versions , so that people won't have to go completely back to stock TW. It's intended for those not on the necessary bootloaders yet so that they can flash future CM builds. Put them into the PDA section in Odin and flash away.

Flashing a bootloader is not harmless. It is one of the few things that can hard brick this device.

Because it was a good warning. Flashing a ROM should not be taken lightly and flashing a bootloader should be done with alot of care as it can brick your device to the point of needed a JTAG to fix.

I don't have time to screw around. I just tested this and it works fine. I just would've rather bricked my device rather than yours. That's why I like to test all links for these types of things before I promote them off to you guys..
1.) Go here (above posted thread link)
2.) Put phone into download mode and then open Odin.
3.) Choose the PDA slot and then select the correct file for your device (AT&T is LK3)
4.) Hit start and wait until its finished.
5.) Done
5.) Remind me that I shouldn't be trying to do this from my phone. All it does it piss me off.

If I remember right, once on 4.3 you can no longer use the free unlock method. You will have to buy a code online. If you have a T999, you can try flashing the 4.1.1 modem and see if you can do it though. You wont get any signal if you are on a 4.3 rom until you flash back to the 4.3 modem btw.

You dont need to be rooted, but you do need a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) in order to flash the modem. I never made any odin flashable packages for the modems, only recovery flashable.
Just so you know, flashing a custom recovery will void your warranty if its still valid and you care about that.
Thanks bro, I don't care about warranty.... So all I have to do now is flash a recovery then flash the modem, hmm wonder if anyone has ever got it to work like that before tho.... If it doesn't tho can u recommend a cheap unlocking site please

All I remember for sure is that on 4.1.2, samsung patched against this unlock method, but we were still able to flash the 4.1.1 modem and unlock. In 4.3, you cant use an older modem or youll get no signal, but Im just not sure if you can still use the free unlock method that way.
Ebay had several very cheap options at one point. Also, http://gsmliberty.net has/had(?) a promo where if you posted a video of yourself unlocking using their method they would refund you your money, essentially making it free. Not sure if that is still valid though.

Any 4.1.1 modem, as long as its one for your model device. If you wanted you could see if flashing a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 rom would make a difference, but as before, I kinda doubt it will.
When we were updated to 4.1.2, and found that the unlock method was patched, all we had to do was flash an older modem. Didnt matter what build it was from.
agree

[Q] T999v - TWRP (2.7.1.0 or older) “NO OS Found”

Hi All,
I have S3 T999v – Wind variant running on stock 4.4.2 , overall I hate this kitkat experience...
My issue is whenever I try to flash custom recovery TWRP (2.7.1.0 or older), it installs but when I try to take backup it shows nothing to take backup of (no System , no EFS etc....). When I try rebooting it gives error “NO OS Found” I am able to proceed anyways and it starts up phone fine.
Can anyone tell me what could be the issue here??? I wanna downgarde to either stock 4.3 or to install custom liquid smooth 4.4.4. but would prefer to take a back up just in case.
BTW my phone is rooted , rooted it with towel root.
Also can I flash T999 (t-mobile) based recoveries onto my T999v ?
Would appreciate your help :good:.
Thanks
I recommend using d2tmo recoveries over d2can. More roms will be flashable. And you can use any rom here in our forums.
For now, try using either cwm or philz recovery. Youre experiencing a known issue that I believe is related to the hardware revision. I keep hoping to attempt a fix, but just havent had time yet. But for now, one of the other recoveries should work for you.

updating bootloader and modem

i have att s3 i747. under baseband it says i747ucdlk3.
I want to install and experience with more roms, especially the lollipop nightlies. but they require an updated bootloader! Otherwise, my phone doesnt read the sim card. i have read so many threads on how to update the bootloader and modem/firmware, but half of the threads i read result in many people bricking their device! How do i update the bootloader properly? that is, without bricking my phone of course! should i do incremental updates? or jump from lk3 to the latest one? im lost on what to do, like i said so many people got bricked. can anyone help me out? it would be greatly appreciated!

Is your phone sim unlocked? If it isn't, you could flash back to a stock AT&T 4.1.1 ROM, unlock, and run OTA updates until your have the latest ROM on your phone. This approach requires more time but it is the simplest and least risky in my opinion.
So basically you're saying to flash back to unrooted stock. And then keep using att updates until I get to the latest one, and then I should be on ne4 automatically?? Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly.

Yes, flash back to stock and keep running ota until you hit the latest release.
If you have warranty left on your phone, updating, rooting, and loading a custom recovery will change the warranty bit from 0 to 1 which voids the remaining warranty.

You will have no choice but to flash to 4.4.2 bootloader and modem if you want to run the latest d2lte ROMs.
True, once you are on 4.3 or higher bootloader, you cannot go back to stock 4.1.1.

Isn't the 4.1.1 bootloader lk3? Cuz for some reason I'm on a 4.4.4 ROM with a baseband that ends in lk3....does that mean anything?
Sorry guys I'm clueless when it comes to modems and bootloaders and all that stuff. Thanks for these replies btw.

Some kk roms will run on a 4.1.1 bootloader while others will not. I know some of the newer cm11 roms will work but you will not have any signal with older modems and bootloaders.

So since I'm on lk3.. I should still be able to flash black to 4.1.1 stock via Odin and then use the ota right? Or should I flash back to 4.3. Which one is the safe option? Im thinking about using the ota option mentioned earlier in this thread.
