Hello, I have the chance of getting an xperia play that is "bricked" for a 50 dollar cheap-ass generic android tablet. What the owner says is that he bought it bricked, and when he plugs it to the charger it shows a red light, then a yellow one after a while. I told him to connect the xperia to the pc while holding the back/search key and he told me that windows displayed "windows cannot recognize usb device" I am wondering if it's just that he doesn't have the flash drivers installed and the device just needs to get a ftf flash or is it that the previous owner tried to unlock bootloaders and failed misserably? If that's the case, can I bring it back to life? I need more information. Thanks in advance
Well the play is recognized by the computer as it says cannot recognize. And it lights up so he most likely just needs to install the proper files on his computer. Like you said then you can flash a Rom and kernel and it should work great.

I had LauncherPRO, I tried switching wallpapers and everything froze so I did a battery pull and now it gets stuck on the "ROGERS" boot up screen or goes to a blank and no keys work. If I slide out the gamepad while its blank, the screen will turn on and it'll be a black screen with the time and the slideout bar but the touch screen doesn't work for some reason. It also says I have no service.
Here's a list of what I've tried so far -
- Holding the left and right D-Pad keys while starting the phone
- Holding the back and search button while starting the phone
- Using Sony Ericsson Update Service but it won't even detect it
- PC Companion won't detect it either
I've had so many problems with this phone, I was hoping to exchange it for a different phone if possible. I got it from Rogers on May 30th, and I didn't really realize it had problems till this month. Thing is, I have installed APK's from 4shared that you'd normally have to pay for and since it seems to be bricked now, I don't know if it's safe to bring it in.. It's not rooted. I'm pretty sure most of my downloaded apps were on my SD card but I"m not 100% sure. The phone isn't functional at all if I manage to get it to that black homescreen.

Thanks for the reply. This won't void warranty, right?
Edit: Flashtool doesn't seem to recognize my Xperia PLAY when I boot it in flash mode. The green LED is lit, and it shows a battery logo when I start it up so I assume that means it's in flash mode, but flash tool wont recognize it. I've tried on a windows 7 and a windows vista computer

I am, yes.
I read somewhere that problems with pc companion not regonizing the play can be resolved by umounting the sdcard and then conecting it to pc companion again.

Just tried it after restarting my computer, still no luck but my PC Companion seems to start up everytime I plug it in while booting in flash mode.. which is odd
Edit: Nevermind, it's detected it now. Thanks!
i read that you said the battery logo shows up. that's not flash mode. you enter flash mode by ONLY holding back and plugging in USB cable. but i see you solved it now.

Yeah before I had read that it was different for Xperia PLAY, that you had to hold search. Since before I wasn't holding the "back" button long enough and I didn't think it was working. Anywho it's all fixed up now! This doesn't void warranty right?
Just wanted to add as i just spent hours figuring this out and its really stupid and simple but may help other people. When you connect the phone in flash mode. Connect it in FLASH mode. Do NOT hold the search key button as this is for FASTBOOT MODE. You need to hold the back button on the Xperia play to launch into flash mode instead.
Hope this helps someone =)
Apologies for the necro, but just in case anyone else is having this problem and comes here.... i spent an hour reinstalling drivers, holding different keys without flashtool detecting the phone in flash mode & searching through vaguely related results in google.
In the end nothing was wrong, I was plugged into usb 3.0 and whilst the drivers were installed and the device was showing up in device manager, flashtool simply wouldn't detect it. The moment it was connected to a usb 2.0 socket it immediately worked.
HELP!

My Xperia Play is not being recognised by the FlashTool (I've installed the Gorgon Drivers and it is detecting as ZEUS USBFlash...). It is not responding, I tried pressing the search button, the back button, but I got nothing. I am not getting any light neither. Do any of you have any idea about what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
Hey guys, sorry to be a nuisance but I need some help getting x10 flasher to recognize my play. I unlocked my bootloader, installed gordons gate drivers, ran pc companion (suggested from another thread), turned off my phone, connected usb while hold search and got blue light, do have firmware in firmware folder, but keep getting message - "Searching Xperia, Please plug your device in flash mode". Oh yeah I did install the drivers that came with x10 flasher through device manager in the s1 fastboot icon. What am I doing wrong?
Hold the back button when it says to
Search button is fastboot, not flash mode

Thank you very much bro, just saved my long day I was supposed to devote to rooting my phone, took like 5 minutes.
Hey all,
Yesterday I was about to flash a new ROM on my wifes Xperia S. She had an old ICS rom and I decided to go for the PAC MAN JB 4.2.2 ROM. Seemed ok.
I own a SGS2 myself so I consider myself a total noob when it comes to the Sony.
I know CWM works on on the XS and I am pretty sure I installed it when I romed it last time. Although I didn't remember how to enter CWM mode so I installed it again through that .bat file that comes with it.
I downloaded the ROM and the GAPPS and copied both to the phone. And now I thought I was set and went for it. Of course I did a Nandroid backup before and also from within the phone a full backup in Backup & Restore. Bootloader is unlocked by the way.
So now I boot into CWM and I do a full wipe/factory reset. I clear the cache and dalvik and also I format the system as he guides us to do in his installation video.
I then installed the rom or at least tried. Got the status 7 together with some error I can't remember.
I read then that people had issues downloading the rom with google chrome which sounds pretty far fetched but I decided to do what other did and downloaded the rom from firefox.
Then within CWM I thought to start the USB and copy it directly in CWM since I already had reset the phone and didn't want to go through the "new phone" routine. But the USB in CWM didn't work so I had to restart the phone.
It then got stuck on the initial SONY logo screen and I'm stuck there now.
I have installed the Flash tool from SONY coz I read in another thread that the only way out is to install stock rom. However when I connect the phone holding volume down windows 8 always say that the USB device is not recognized. I have of course rebooted the PC after.
I'm going to try this on my Windows 7 PC as well later after work but I dread I will be stuck there as well.
Can anyone shed some light on how I can get my wifes Xperia S to be recognized by her Windows 8 laptop? Or have I bricked her phone?
I have thought many times that I bricked my SGS2 but always came out on top, I don't want to lose this battle either.
if it says "Unknown Devices" when you plug the phone to the computer, try change an USB line or change a computer
if it says "Unable to install the driver" or another something like this when you plug the phone to the computer, try install the Flashtool driver
...any screenshots?
Windows 8 gives a balloon tip saying exactly "USB Device not recognized". And I did install the Flashtool to get the driver but I guess I still miss the correct driver here.
I will do some more troubleshooting after work. I just thought maybe someone had similar problem and had a quick and easy solution.
It also happend to me, just turn it off and flash stock firmware with flashtool (select all under wipe)

The issue is not actually the "stuck on SONY logo". The issue is that the computer wont recognize the phone when I connect through USB.
What did you use to get the correct driver?
Ok I actually managed to get it connected on my Windows 7 PC.
I installed Emma (Flashtool) and it installed something but I'm not sure really what happened to be honest. Light on the phone was green and it installed 4.0.4 ICS.
It was a success after about 217 seconds but after that the phone didn't do anything. Stayed with green light and when I disconnected it it could not be started at all.
Maybe it doesn't have enough power to start up. It is on 220V charge now so lets see what will happen with it.

Good news y'all.
All it needed after using Emma was some juice. Now it is back to it's normal self. And I'm not going to ROM it anymore. Soon JB will be officially out for XS.
True!! When I was a noob, I tried to flash cyanogrnmod on my galaxy ace (it was a year ago) and I stuck in bootloop. Idk what to do and I regret it, from that day I never flash any rom. But this year I flash xzxperience on acro s and it works but not so happy and then I flash stock firmware to normal. And I regret because i ve unlocked bootloader!! And now BE is not working anymore.

Hi everybody,
I own Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (LT15i) which no longer lives under the warranty time period. It became extremely slow, so I decided to flash a new ROM on it in attempt to see if that made it any faster. I rooted it and installed ClockworkMod Recovery on the phone and attempted to flash Xperia Ultimate HD 5.01 through CWM. The installation went perfectly fine, however after I did the reboot my phone doesn't get past the Sony Ericsson logo.
I've looked up all sorts of ways to fix soft bricked and bootlooped Arc's but none seem to work. When I try to use flashtool, I can't seem to be able to connect the phone to the computer and Windows comes up with "USB Device not recognized" and flashtool automatically aborts flashing. When I try to use PC Companion to repair the device, Windows doesn't recognize the device and neither does PC Companion. The same thing happens with Update Service.
I cannot enter flashmode, cannot get anywhere past the Sony Ericsson logo (including trying to access ClockworkMod Recovery) and cannot seem to get Windows to recognize the device. All drivers are installed both from Sony and flashtool.
Is there any other way I can recover my device? Thanks in advance for all help!

Hello,
I can pretty much understand your situation, but this is where we start to have a better understanding of our own device and learn from our mistake.
In fact if you want to use flash tool, you will need to prepare your PC to recognize your mobile, by means of installing appropriate drivers, commonly known as Google SDK drivers.
I shall resume somehow here and try to find a good link for you to read :cyclops:
1. Your PC need to have latest version of JAVA
2. Install Google SDK, choose appropriate drivers and apps to be installed
3.Install flashtool and appropriate devices drivers.
Try to follow this link :
1. Installation of ADB drivers and SDK : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830108
2. Flashing Kernel and Rom. Be careful with compatibility and other issues, you always have surprises here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996665
The above link is for HTC if im not wrong, try searching for ARC you will find it, there are loads of tutorial posted on XDA..
Here you go : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508585
Dont forget read and read until you understand every single terms.
See Ya . .

The problem is that you have GB kernel, but using ICS ROM. These 2 do not work together.
Try another USB cable and/or USB port and try Flashtool/PC Companion again.

Tried that. Still no results. I've also tried using fastboot, and yes I did install all the drivers as well as the Android SDK along with the Java DK. When I enter
fastboot devices
I get no response... When I try to flash a kernel using
fastboot flash boot bootARC.img
It says waiting for device forever. The phone is plugged in and the blue light is on. The screen is still off though. When I connect it in fastboot mode to Flashtool it has the same problem (doesn't recognize the device).
Would Sony be able to fix it for me if I handed it in? Even though my warranty has been void for over a year I could probably just pay for the repair. At this rate I doubt it's possible for me to fix it...

Well that might be the issue,W8.I have W7 and XP never had a problem.
Did you try to run flashtool and connect the phone via usb(turn it off and just connect it don't hold any buttons,if that doesn't woek try turning it on and then connect it)-so that way flashtool might detect the device.Hope you'll get it to work.If nothing helps than try searching on google about these issues for win8.

Did you increase your system and data partition into 419 MB and 440 MB? Because if you haven't you'll get a bootloop with Xperia Ultimate HD 5.01 since this rom needs that space. I read that you have to flash Arc S kernel to achieve this but im stuck at this point because the partitions won't change for me :/
To use fastboot, install the drivers by this method.
The only working method to install fastboot on Windows 8.

Well this is is What happened. I was trying to install "ICS Neo2Play V2.7" on my "Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY" I tried it twice and I couldn't so I flashed it again to R800a North America. As I couldn't do it I upgraded the "Flashtool! from 0.6.9.1 to 0.9.18.5 and tried to install "Lupus-v12-iCs-720" but I couldn't so I tried to install "ICS Neo2Play V2.7" and nothing so I plug it to flash it again and the Rom R800a wasn't there I didn't notice it and clicked flash so it did it fast and now I have a dead pone, it doesn't enter Flashmode doesn't turn on nothing but when I conect it to the PC the sound plays but that's it. It also doesn't turn on and the LED doesn't blink. HELP....!!! PLEASE.........!!! is there any way to fix it.....???
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.
Stand by
Good luck
If u flashed x10 relock file, u probably damaged bootloader partition and i dont think u can reapir it in home, without flasmode, coz only thing i can think of (not counting using box) is to flash relock file for 2011 xperias

I messed up my xperia ion in a similiar way. Take out the battery for a few minutes. With the battery out hook it up to the pc. If you can see a dim charging light of any colour your should be able to fix it. Unplug the phone and put the battery in. Without trying to power it on click the back button and connect it to the pc. This may work.
