After checking couple of forums, I realized that this is a general bug for Android. Many people complain about it but it seems nobody could find an exact solution. I will try to explain the problem to be more precise.
Even though "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is checked as "Always", when the phone goes to sleep it doesn't connect to internet.
Wifi signal shows it is connected but it is not. I have to disable/enable wifi in order to make it work.
You can see many posts regarding to this issue. It looks like people acquiesced the problem since nobody found an exact problem.
Is there any solution that you could find?

I have GSM Nexus also.
I bought it 3 days ago. I noticed it right after I powered it on. I had similar issue with my HTC Desire.
Now I installed a ROM to try it and still no luck. I started to think that problem is because of modem.
What ROM & Kernel are you using?

This happens to me. I picked up some gameloft games in the 99 cent sale and downloading 800mb over wifi is impossible. The screen turns off and the download fails.
I found I have to set the screen to stay on when on USB, plug it into a wall, and download.
I've been on several roms. I haven't started experimenting with kernels but thats the fix I think in this case. Even CM roms do this. Hopefully it isn't hard coded into the hardware.

You could set your screen sleep policy to wait 30minutes to turn off. Surely wouldn't take longer than that.
+1...downloading game loft games is not possible. The game only downloads on wifi but the download stops after the screen goes to sleep.
Edit: Just tried downloading 300mb of game loft game data and it works even when screen is off. Im on AOKP BUILD 17, I definitely had this problem on stock 4.0.2.

I am my second Galaxy Nexus due to other issues. The first one did not have this wifi sleep issue, but my current GN does ( I installed a VOIP app on the second that was not on the first... not sure if this has anything to do with the wifi sleep issue). I think I may have found a work around. I changed the setting to never and tested a few times. Then I changed it to always again and now wifi remains on while the phone sleeps. I have tested it a few times and so far it is still working. I will update the post if the problem reoccurs.
Stock ROM (4.0.2)
You know what,I have the opposite issue.my wifi never shuts off.... I just leave it.wifi on this is way way way more battery efficient than my galaxy s. Even the cell radios are pretty awesome. Hardly take any battery at all.

I updated my kernel and its fixed. Downloaded MC3 finally.

Hi, guys. I have bought device some days ago and unfortunately I have discovered sleep of death in my Note2. Device bought from Arabia. First it was stock ROM, i discovered SOD in this firmware, I changed it and installed Android Revolution HD 4.0 with Perseus kernel. But SOD still exist. I do not know what to do more. May be anybody had such a problem and could fix it? Please, share info with me and thanks a lot for advance
it goes off once or twice a day, I must push Power button for 10 second or take away battery/put back and power to turn on device
hardware?

perhaps its a hardware issue. is there any way u could bring it back to the place u bought it? otherwise maybe just an extremely buggy ROM. im just guessing anyways. hope its resolved soon. cause it is a mint device. im got myself one too and im absolutely loving it
unfortunately no way to send it back, my buddy bought it for me, when was in KSA
Mine doesn't do this.. Had it about 2-3 weeks
I had one SOD so far. I was playing granny smith, locked the phone while the game was still on, didn't wake up. That was on my first boot. Since then no problems.
very interesting is there any way to fix this problem?
today put new official ROM, Pit, Bootloader, PDA, Modem and waiting for the result ...
But have you updated it to the latest Samsung firmware? If not then use Kies on your PC to update your Note 2 to the latest version.
Btw I've never had sod on my note 2, even when in the stock power save mode. Stock phone no root.

i have resolved SOD problem in my Note2. I installed GT-N7100XXALJ3_SER_HOME RESCUE ROM, took away external sd-card, and in wifi advanced option put check if wifi internet service is available when AP connected. That is all. No SOD
Ahh good happy for you !

Hey!
The sod that was talked about in this thread is not the same thing as the eMMC bug some have been experiencing, this bug doesn't cause a brick.
Ttorrent has a bug where it simply freezes the whole system, but it's solved with a reboot. Google shows several reports of this. Don't know whether it's fixed or not now.

I remember this from Note 1... had no idea this problem was still around - and again it seems to bother just some people, even if they all use the same rom. On Note 1 it had most likely something to do with deep sleep / frequency changes, and was "fixed" by preventing your phone from going to deep sleep mode.

Hi guys. I have same problem. A few days ago I've decided to install custom rom with 4.3. First problem was when I tried to install ROM. CWM couldn't mount my internal sd. I solved this problem, but now I have SOD. I tried many manuals to fix it( battery calibration, turn of WIFI in sleep mode, etc) I just noticed one think. When I turn OFF and then turn ON "Power Saving Mode" It happens that device may work for a couple of hours. I forgot one think. I have SOD problem every time I lock my device.
P.S. sorry for my english
My NFC keeps turning off on it's own. Is this a security feature? It's really annoying to keep turning it back on.

It's all stock firmware rooted. I did trip the flash counter but I recently discovered Triangle Away so maybe that will solve my issues. Haven't had it turn off on me yet. Sometimes it'll turn off on reboot but sometimes it'll just be off over night.
Model SGH-T889
Android 4.1.1
Baseband T889UVALJ1
Kernel Version 3.0.31-260018
UPDATE:
Still does it. Really annoying. It does it while the phone is on. I don't need to reboot for this to happen.
Here's a thought, does anyone have the Samsung Flip cover? I know there is a bridge for the NFC radio. Maybe that is related...
Yep, having the same problem. Turn on NFC and an hour later try to use it and it is off. Galaxy Note 2.
What is going on?

well just posting to say iI have the same problem, haven't found a solution yet. Basically makes using NFC tags worthless because you have to turn it on every time you want to use it.
Hello, i'm using CyanogenMod 10.1, but i had the same problem with AOKP.
The problem is that, when i put in standby my phone for a long time, Wifi turns off (or it just disconnects, that's still not ok)...
It takes a while, i mean, if it's in standby for 5 minutes or less, everything seems ok, but after a while (don't know for sure how long), when i wake it, i find that it was disconnected. The problem is that i don't have a flat data plan so when i'm at home i have to choose if use my limited data or not receive network notifications...
Any solution?

Try turning off "Avoid Poor Connections".. and
Turn off "Wifi Optimization".
R: WiFi turns off when screen is off?
I'm trying... Does disabling wifi optimization make it a lot more battery hungry?
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus con Tapatalk 2
me too have the same problem in my xperia ray
but iam using cyanogenmod 9.1.0 stable version...
but when the screen is off for some minutes the wifi turns off even i gave keep wifi on during sleep in wifi advanced settings
I often have the same problem. I've tried fixing it with most combination of those WiFi settings, in both stock and CM10.1 and it still happens. I think it might be something with the phone, but if anyone knows of a way to fix it, that would be great.
WiFi is known issue on 4.2.2 ROM.

After upgraded to kitkat, I noticed wifi icon at status bar will be missing after many days. Wifi will indicates as off and it couldn't be turned on. YET wifi is working fine. The only way to clear is to reboot. Anyone seen this?

I have the issue too. Anyone have any idea how to fix? Thanks.
I noticed the same thing too. Turning airplane mode on and off fixes it for me. I just got the tablet a few days ago, so I havent done much testing, but do you guys have " turn wifi off during sleep" setting on in the advanced wifi menu? I was suspecting that to be the culprit.
I realized this thread is nearly a year old, but I just bought this (used) Note tablet, and experienced the exact symptoms as described by the other posters. The wifi issue happens almost every time my tablet sleeps for more than a hour. Toggling airplane mode on/off fixes the issue, only temporarily, until the next sleep. I am wondering if there are any clues to what causes the issue.
Is it a bug in the factory rom, or something that I installed?
Here is the info of my tablet:
- US model SM-P600 (XAR), with latest stock rom UEUCOB1
- Rooted by TWRP 2.8.5.1
- Xposed installed with these modules:
Wanam
No Wake of Charge for S5, and
App Settings (only change rotation setting for one 3rd party app).
I am considering do a factory reset and setting it up again from scratch. But I want to hear if others are experiencing this issue even with 100% stock (non-rooted) rom. By the way, the issue only happens when you set Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to either "Never" or "Only when plugged in". I would really appreciate someone with non-rooted rom letting me know if this happens to them when they set their tablets to allow Wifi to sleep with tablet.
