Anyone found a work around the wifi tether issue? Rooted phone stock ICS.
If you can use Bluetooth then FoxFi + PDANet Tablet works well between me and my tablet. Not sure if it works with a laptop.
Go into titanium backup, and either freeze or uninstall tethering provision.

I don't know if that was exactly the tethering file i uninstalled with TiB, but that one isn't listed for me.
Actually, if i did remove it then that's probably what lets me use the built in tethering (under wireless settings). No redirect page for me... hm...

Which one comes up for you? And is it better to freeze or uninstall?

Wait, what's issue you're having? Are you trying to get back free hotspot for turning your device into a hotspot, or you can't connect?
TerrorCandii Gaming uses ASUS/Samsung
I froze device management and the tethering provision, works now for me.
Unsure if device management was needed.

I deleted the apk to the HotSpot, and now I have to go all around settings to activate it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of that APK, and either I'm blind, or none of them have an obvious name. If someone could point me to it, it would be awesome. I downloaded Mr. X's zipped rom, but can't find it there.
I could go to the market, and download one of those shortcut thingies, but I don't want those, I want the stock one.
Also, FYI, the only thing that has to be frozen/deleted is the Tethering Provision.

Hi All,
I am having a slightly different issue. I'm rooted and have frozen the 'TetheringProvision 1.04.02.TM'.
When I was broadcasting, my computer wouldn't connect to the network. My workaround was to delete the connection in Windows Network Manager and reconnect.
My tethering icon is different than the above screenshots, I have a T-Mobile branded icon.
Now that I'm able to connect, I'm getting a message in my webbrowser to sign up for a tethering plan. I've tried a User-Agent switcher, but that didn't work... anyone have any suggestions?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the message:
Turn your Smartphone into a Mobile HotSpot!
Share your smartphone's high-speed internet connection with your laptop, iPadĀ®, iPodĀ®, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device.
it sounds like you did everything right that is weird. What browser do you use chrome? try a different browser first. Even though a different user string should have worked. Maybe they are catching on. Dont forget that all the carriers have people in here as well so they all know what we are doing.
Try using a phone or ipod to connect to your hotspot and see if that works.
I'm having similar issues with mobile hotspot. I have tried freezing and deleting Tether provisioning, device management, and a number of other stock services. However no matter what, the T-Mobile icon always appears when I enable hotspot or wifi tethering and I'm limitted to the stupid WEP access with generated keys.
Anyone have a functional workaround for enabling the ICS hotspot service? currently i'm using FoxFi, but would rather have the real deal
I deleted the tethering provisioning directly from system/app and mine is working fine both the usb tethering n hotspot tethering. I used root explorer to do so
ROM manage has a tethering app. Seems to work fine.
I am running rooted stock ICS and could not get tethering to work by freezing tethering manager. Then I installed the WIFI Tether app (the one made by the Titanium Backup people) and was able to tether via that app. That worked for about an hour and now I am getting the TMO upsell screen even when I try to tether through the WIFI Tether app. Any ideas?
You should freeze/uninstalling TETHERING PROVISION.
Did you use the the Korean method for rooting, any issues?
Ok then. Im sure once a few more peeps get their hands on this amazing phone, we will be talking bout it.
I did. No issues at all. Just WiFi Tether which i dont think is related to root method. Other root apps work fine.
So I'm all excited I was able to root my LG Optimus G (Sprint edition). Had similar problems as others with the WiFi tethering until I made the helpful suggestions made previously (thank you Barshalen). The strange thing here is whenever I try to connect my laptop to the phone's WiFi hotspot, within seconds my laptop presents the good ol' BSOD. Never had anything like this happen before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
After I disable wifi tether, the phoens wifi won't re-enable, I have to reboot the phone for wifi to start working again. Has anyone had this issue or know if there is a fix for it?
I've got the at&t version and I'm seeing this as well. I can get a working hotspot with the SGSIII, generic and generic ICS/JB profiles, but with each one my wifi is horked after I stop wifi-tether. I can't use wifi as a client, and a second run of wifi-tether fails. A reboot clears the problem and I can both use wifi and wifi-tether again.
I'm hoping that there is either an update to wifi-tether or some profile that fixes this...
Wifi tether not working after disable
I am seeing the same issues. Has anyone been successful with any other wifi tethering apps?
By the way I have the AT&T version of the phone, am rooted and have an unlocked bootloader. Under the app settings I have Routing Fix checked and under Change Device Profile I have Gneric ICS/JB (wlan0).
Any Ideas?
Sprint LG Optimus G Rooted
Android version 4.1.2
Baseband version M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1690
Kernel version 3.4.0
Build number JZO54K
Software version LS970ZVB
Wifi Tether not working.
3.3-beta2-06102013***Synergized***
The Wifi app will start with SU permissions. I have the settings set to the before mentioned advisement, however the wifi will not work i.e. it is not visible at all to any computer. When I am near another wireless network the wifi tether app will abruptly stop and give me an error that says "WTH your phone takes back over the wifi-interface" then the app shuts down.
Can anyone help with this issue, is there a resolution for the problem?
Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
I may be experiencing 2 seperate problems, meaning 1. the network is not seen and 2. the app stops from the wifi-interface taking control.
Hi guys, new to XDA here, just flashed JBSourcery 4.1 last night seems pretty good so far, just have some questions.
1. Is turning the camera vertically/horizontally causing a short lag 1-2seconds lag for you guys? It is for me. Although not an issue.
2.The WIFI tether toggle doesn't seem to do anything, and setup takes me to the stock tethering page.
3. I downloaded the android wifi tether app(the yellow one) via app store, their online beta versions, none of them seems to work. If I change SSID and password, it'll crash the app. If I just run the app without changing anything, it shows it's tethering, but it cuts off the internet on my phone too and doesn't actually tether anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
bump, help plz!
The native Wi-Fi tether works flawlessly for me so I don't know what to tell you as far as that's concerned.
By native i think you mean the one that's under settings->more(under wireless&networks)->tethering & portable hotspot?
I tried that one and it didn't work either, shuts off the internet on my phone but still broadcasts
Hey guys, i got a question about the Wifi tethering on the Xperia S.
is it possible to show the connected devices via an app or with the system himself, when i have Wifi tethering on? i don't want to look everytime in the dnsmasq.leases file or what it calls.
Just password protect it with wpa2 and you should be more then secure
Good question.
WiFi is seen as off when WiFi tethering is enabled, so applications like Fing and WiFi Analyzer just see the WiFi interface as down.
You have to have 'conventional' WiFi disabled and WiFi thethering enabled, so this would only be a short term config under a controlled environment in most cases.
It's true WPA2 and a password does provide good basic security, but....
I have an old XPERIA X10i with a 64GB mircroSD card which could make a short to long term mobile NAS and in such an environment where many people are using your hotspot "NAS" for documents, music and/or videos access/streaming, knowing if someone is using it before disabling the service may be helpful.
So, I too, would be interested if there is an app that sees the tethered interface and the network connections using it.
I have done little reaserch and came up with this.
try it
Interesting. How did you enable and view the tethered interface when Fing only monitors wlan0?
I didnt, i only search on google. Some guys were report they use this app for that action
I actually saw it on the Galaxy S3 which has tethering enabled and shows the connected devices. so i think it can be done if we port the tethering app from the galaxy s3 to the XS. after that it should work.. maybe.. =D
btw. i tested the app and it didn't work.. :/
Just curious, can you instal that app on second phone and conect to host, can you then look which devices are conected to it?
Hey folks,
I'm having some problems with my note 2 GT N7100, I can't connect to the internet, my mobile data is active though it's not working, it works only with whatsapp, then my wifi won't connect, it keeps saying "Obtaining IP adress" and nothing happens after, and yes I am rooted and I guess my problem is because of a root app.
More infos on the attachements, it would be great if someone could help me solve this problem.
Thanks guys.
Can you go to the internet using your mobile data? And did you put in your WiFi password correctly?
Well I made a hard reset and installed a new firmware, now it's working fine, it's just that Google Play stopped working.. I'm getting the 500 error while trying to download any app. I guess my phone is not feeling good these days.
Custom firmware? Maybe try reinstalling gapps again. It seems to solve most of my Google play issues.
No, the official Samsung's 4.1.2 firmware, well I have solved the problem, it has nothing to do with deleting Google Play's cache or deleting Dalvik cache or whatever, since I am rooted and I have Xposed installer, I used to use Hack connectivity module and it seems that it was blocking my wifi access so just by deleting it everything went good. Lucky me. Thanks bro for your help.
