General Mustaavalkosta CM11 thread - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I know I'm starting a new thread but as the ROM is new and there are/will be many versions, I reckon we'd be better off consolidating all the issues with this ROM into one thread rather than starting new ones.
I've just installed 2014-01-27 nightly after a full wipe on an S-OFF DHD. I have these problems:
Google experience app starts with "Welcome!" but with the "e!" on a separate line [very minor]
Can't seem to remove apps from home screens as the red X never appears when I touch&hold&drag an app!
No GPS - I have baseband 12.69a.60.29U_26.17.14.11_M

Hi,
I just flashed cm-11-20140201-UNOFFICIAL-ace.zip because I want to use my old Desire HD as a phone for development and my PC is too slow for the emulator. I succesfully installed the rom and it looks great. I've turned on developer mode and USB debugging but DDMS shows the device name as ???????? and the version as unknown. Because it can't determine the version it won't run any apps.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Paul

Got it working. It was a combination of needing a udev rule for the USB device and getting the authorize popup to appear on the phone. I found how to do this elsewhere on the forums and stack overflow.

Looking for a ROM

Hey guys was wondering about flashing my HTC Touch Diamond, But I want a decent ROM.
Something that's not too packed up full of junk, Easy to use and a better performance.
Also maybe a guide to unlocking/debranding this phone along with a flash guide if that's not too much?
cheers.

From one newbie to another, you should read the sticky posts... they are full guides and information about flashing your phone's ROM / Radio etc.
The forum 'Search' facility is your friend, it like's to be used. That's what I did and found all I needed to know about the available ROM's and Flashing process without having to ask a single question.
The New World ROM introduced a much-improved version of the Open Firmware interpreter, version 3.0, which added many missing features, fixed most of the bugs from earlier versions, and had the capability to run CHRP boot scripts. The Toolbox ROM was embedded inside a CHRP script in the System Folder called "Mac OS ROM", along with a short loader stub and a copy of the Happy Mac icon (in Mac OS X 10.2 and higher, this was replaced with a silhouette of the Apple logo on a blank gray screen) suitable for display from Open Firmware. Once the ROM was loaded from disk, the Mac boot sequence continued as usual. As before, Open Firmware could also run a binary boot loader, and version 3.0 added support for ELF objects as well as the XCOFF files versions 1.0.5 and 2.0 supported. Also, version 3.0 (as well as some of the last releases of version 2.x, starting with the PowerBook 3400) officially supported direct access to the Open Firmware command prompt from the console (by setting the auto-boot? variable to false from Mac OS, or by holding down Command-Option-O-F at boot).

[2010.2.4 New Testing Package] Online..

Time changes, and things go better and better.
This thread is dedicated to test the android and try to figure out where is the problem
[NEWS]
The NEW KERNEL ROCKS.. With double RAM.
And the new rootfs is cleaner than before.
I am going to release a new package (which I just did some small editing)
What can you do with this package?
Connect ADB (very important for debugging)
Put everything in a folder of your SDCard
Supply with NEW kernel and now you have more free RAM
Enjoy the cleaner rootfs (I have made some small modifications)
Download : http://www.mediafire.com/?1tbnyz2jmky
If any of you know how to enable chat in irc, please let me know.
BASICS:
Current Android boot from HARET which start from Windows Mobiles.
It consist of several components. Each of those is having unique functions.
1. STARTUP.TXT
Passing parameters to kernel which enable users to specify machine specific data
Current parameters including screen size, dpi, rotation, etc.
2. Kernel
The most important piece of code that enable everything to talk to the machine.
Developers here are most focus on this area as the other are greatly supported by google and other developers.
Kernel also determine what the hardware could do, and how it connects to other devices.
3. rootfs.img
This is the root of the linux, which initialize the OS. Especially running some startup scripts and mounting folder.
4. system.sqsf
The is the base Operating System of something call ANDROID. For others, you may considered them the basic environment of mobile Linux. For what we call CupCake / Donut / Eclair are stored here.
What we will be doing is to test out the features and bugs and locate the part of the about components affecting it.
Updated ADB howto:
Grab my base package.
Connect to computer before running Haret.
Wait until Android boot complete.
Install Google SDK USB drive for whatever device show up.
droid explorer or "adb device" to test.
If no device found, replug the usb cable.
This post would be updated with agenda drawing most concerns. We need your testing to see if you have any similar problems.
Agenda:
Top priority:
Device can't be wake.
Rear speaker always on.
This post would updates the testing items, and report the latest status.
Everything here are replaced with most recent findings and once more users confirmed, it moves up.
Do not believe everything in this post, but try falsify it. Reports in here would be presices to the level of component and versions.
So make sure you know what you are testing.
This post is a testing invitation, with trials and errors.
If someone raised an interesting phenomenon, we are going to invites members to test it. And the result format would be given as well.
This post may be changed from time to time to refect the new items needed to test (including the return format)
Now, let's kick start.
#1 To Test the base package in post 1
Return with following format.
Machine Type: BLAC100 (other devices are welcomed, but of course we are BLAC owners and would focus on it)
Test build: 2010.2.4
Radio: 1.17.25.09
WIFI ON: YES (WPA)
WIFI OFF: YES
Calendar / Gmail : BOTH OK
Google Voice: OK
Deep Sleep: YES (To test it, disable WIFI, Any USB, and press END KEY to sleep. If deep sleep is working, the system should not be up with key other than the power key)
Wake up: Crashed sometimes initially and get stablized later
ADB Connection: OK
Additional Package Installed: Facebook, dolphin
Suggestion: Replaced with kernel version xxxx would help to xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (if you found out how to make the build better)
#2 DEEP SLEEP AND WAKE
Please post your kernel version (or if you have no idea, the file name of the wifi module) if you found youself never had problem with sleep and wake (not yourself, but your blackstone android).
Lets begin this thread with a constructive approach to achieve our desired goal.
Will Post the feedback as requested.
Machine Type: BLAC100
Radio: Security unlocked 1.16.25.48 (Kovsky)
WIFI ON: YES (WPA)
WIFI OFF: YES
Calendar / Gmail : BOTH OK
Deep Sleep: YES but say after 10 minutes it wont wake-up.
Market: Working with downloads.
Additional Package: Facebook, Wifi toggle, Currency converter, Battery lite.

Thanks for your report. Developers is aware of the wake up issue of blackstone. It is however, seems still not fixed in the new kernel.
And Pierre-Hugues Husson would disable the deep sleep function (consume a little more battery) in up coming kernels, and we can try it on very soon.

Thanks for the update.
mcdull,
Brendan shanks has changed pid on kernel to "0c01", this should enable working with ADB without hacking the inf file.
This was deployed on Build: [email protected]_071547.
Let us know if this makes any difference for you, and whether HTC sync is now possible.
Thanks
It works perfect
hello,
I am using ANDROID_bLACKSTONE_TESTBUILD_20100125.ZIP & zImage-modules-20100129_022341 and it works perfect on my Blackstone till now.
Wi-Fi - OK
Synchronization with google account - OK
Sleep mode - OK
It is FAST
Call IN and OUT - OK
SMS - OK

AFAIK, HTC Sync will not work just yet. And I was not able to connect to ADB after the change. I need to test on some editing.
- Theory
As I already mentioned, the latest implementation of kernel prevent the proper installation of usb driver, and we need to fall back to old kernel to install the driver first (which the old kernel has 0c02 address).
Now, the modification has put the case into dead end. coz we can have no way to ask the computer to install a correct driver with 0c01 address.
In such case it is more difficult to modify the whole batch of driver setting then just the ini. I still have no go in using ADB.
The HTC Dream driver for windows seems works on ADB again.
As suggested by Brendan Shanks, you need to modify the "eclair.user.conf" (stored in the conf/ folder on your SD card), at the bottom, add this line to the custom_shells section:
echo 2 > /sys/devices/platform/msm_hsusb/usb_function_switch
And I have successfully to connect to ADB again.

Thanks for that. I will try also.
Today, I started seeing the traffic animating 3G icon for the first time.
Great.!!
ADB working
Thank's mcdull ,using the Brendan Shanks method , ADB is working very well.
I'm using the 29-01 kernel and i changed the eclair.user.conf.
After that , the Droid explorer works well .
Bluetooth and GPS , the last frontier.
Regards.

Touch Pro 2 Latest Android Build Problem

First of all Hi to everyone. I have a problem with the latest build (the one from 13.06 - i believe it is the latest). This is the first time I install Android on TP2. I also installed Android on Touch Diamond but there I had no problems.
Now I will line up my problems:
1. I get the splash screen for 30 or more minutes - it is resolved now after deleting data.img and restarting.
2. I do not have network signal (I am on Orange), wi-fi or sound. If you can tell me what is wrong it would be of great help for me.
Thanks a lot guys.
Sorry if I posted wrong here, I am kind of new to this forum.
Me again. So I read on the forum about the second problem. The sound (in speaker) still does not work in this build. Regarding the network signal i had an extra line in my startup.txt (force cdma). After I removed it everything went fine. About the wi-fi problem it seem to be a WEP encryption issue.
Sorry again for starting a new post, maybe someone will find it usefull after all.
never mind

[Q] Anyone got the 7003 build installer

Hi,
I have a samsung developer phone, but the installed build is 6419. I don't have direct access to the connect directory, so I was wondering if anyone has the latest installable build? Pst or post a reply if you got any info
Just take the image from THIS.
How can I use that to flash the phone?
You probably need a driver + some weird booting key-press combination on the phone (it changes from phone to phone) before you can do it
It's the Samsung developer phone, no idea what is used to flash that one.
hello,
I have a similar question. I am using a developer build htc spark with a 6527 build version.
Noticing lately many of the new apps not installing or working correctly. Im pretty sure its the old build version. Any help updating to the current prod version is appreciated.
Unfortunately dont have access to connect either.
thank you
I'm guessing y'all are really developers then???

But I don't have access to the Windows Phone directory on connect. And that is where the update is located..

[Q] Installing KangBang 3.0

Hello XDA,
I've been following you for years. I started following you with my first Android phone, an HTC Hero. I've been very happy to be able to use a community ROM that made a far better experience than the stock ROM.
I recently got a brand new HTC One V PrimoU, and I'd like to make it my new polyvalent tool.
I'm not a noob in computers, kernel/linux related stuff, electronics, networking. I already tried some ROMs. In fact, I started with KangBang 3.0 (the same version as now I think), but both WiFi and BlueTooth were not working. Android could not even detected the WiFi MAC address, so I guess it was a driver or wireless chip firmware related problem. I think I was the only one affected, so it was maybe a bad flash or I used the wrong kernel. I did'nt investigate more at the time, but if it happens again to me, I'll send some system/kernel logs.
I then tried AOKP, had a great (really) experience with it, except that the Jack plug sound quality was awful. No bass, only mid/high tones. I even thought my speakers were dead at first, but then tried with headphones. Now, I want to try KangBang again, because that ROM was good, and fast, just missing WiFi.
TL;DR
I'd like to ask some precise questions about KangBang and the HTC One V.
I initially wanted to ask in the ROM dev thread, but can't since I'm a new user, so I ask here. Sorry if the questions are stupid/simple/answered, but let's make a clear base, with precise interrogations and answers, so that they will never be asked again
The kernel is included in the .zip file. Still, do we need to flash manually ? Or will the Aroma installer handle that ?
What about ROM Manager ? Is it recommended to use or is it a good way to brick a phone as I heard ?
Does this ROM change the base Android system and file structure ? Would it be compatible with a side-by-side installation of a Linux system such as Debian ? (To see what I mean by side by side installation of Linux, search Debian Kit for Android on Google, as I can't post links)
Also, I'd like to tell ROM makers these advices (don't take them bad, I you think I'm wrong about them there's no problem, just tell me why) :
It would not be a bad idea to give a simple statistic about the ROM : the load average with the ROM installed on an idle and clean phone. That would give a good indication of idle power consumption and ressource wasting.
I see that users reporting problems with their devices NEVER include any kind of debug information. Maybe you should ask for them, just because by searching for this debug information they might solve the problem themselves. Most Android systems and kernels report a LOT of information, that we can access with simple commands such as dmesg.
Last but not least, I would like to thank you, ROM developers and XDA users for allowing me to play this way with my phone, and to make it work exactly the way I want.
Hugo G.,
ummm this device has kangbang?? (btw questions go into q&a )
so i'll move onto the TL;DR which i was grateful for
1) The rom thread should say what kernel but yes, we don't have s-off so flashed manually
2) Ignore rom manager don't touch it
3) think of it as the differences say with debian vs ubuntu vs mint all basically debian but all with they're own differences (pros and cons)
also about the "suggestions" to the devs, that will NEVER go down well, why should YOU suggest to use what to put in the threads also i know in my threads i ASK for logcats time and time again...
hope this helps
if you need more info i'll be welcome to add more, but 1st i need sleep BADLY
