Beginner Rom Question - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I need some clarification for installing roms on my rogers i317m
I am trying to install skynote air, but I notice that it this rom (like most) is made for the i317 not i317m. How may I go about installing this rom; do I need to install a modem after? Or a boatloader?
It would be awesome if someone could help me, because I am not to certain as to what must be done in a situation like this
Thanks

[Q] Flash a New Rom on Telus GS3

Hello everyone. I'm a recent android convert from iOS, and loving it.
I've rooted and gotten CWM onto my Telus GS3 and made a back-up of the stock samsung rom
I would like to try out some of the other roms and have been pouring over the threads. Unfortunately, i'm still confused about a few things and hoping someone can clarify or point me in the right direction:
Flashing a new rom seems easy enough. I'd like to try out CM10/aristodemos JB. What i'm confused about is the following:
1. according to this thread, i might run into issues w/ build.prop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915875
what is it? and do i need to be following what they say in that thread w/ all of the AT&T roms i try to flash?
2. do i need to be re-flashing my telus modem from the Modem List after i flash these roms?
I guess i just haven't found the one thread that summarizes for us Telus users, what we need to do Differently when flashing say the CM10 or any other of the AOSP roms?
Thanks! any help would be appreciated!
Hi! I've a Telus S III myself and ran into absolutely no problems rooting and reflashing it (with CM10) - no build.prop tinkering and no modem reflashing (third party ROM images normally don't include modems, and those that do will note this).
I rooted through flashing - with Odin - the rooted Telus image available over in the sticky in the dev forum, which also includes instructions for flashing a CWM (make sure it is new enough to avoid the error 7 described in the other thread).
Basically, there's nothing really Telus-specific unless you choose the pre-rooted image route for rooting, and that only applies to the root process.
Good luck, and enjoy your customising...
ahhh perfect, that's good to hear!
thanks!

[Q] Help install Stock Rom issue via Odin

Hi there!
I have a Galaxy S3 SGH T999 version. It has Tmobile rom, but I am trying to install windmobile stock rom via odin (3.07 - tried other older versions) and it fails the secure check.
Is there way to resolve this? I really want to install the stock windmoile rom , and did lot of searching and couldn't really find a lot of info, except that someone with AT&T galaxy S3 had same issue when installing Rogers rom.
I would really appreciate it, thank you!

If you continue trying to ODIN flash firmware which is not intended for your specific phone
you will end up with a nice shiny brick sooner or later, in your case it will be sooner.
If you want the appearance of a windows phone, the best way to do it is to find themes and
launchers which make the phone look like a winmobile phone.
There are a lot of themes and launchers at the play store which do exactly what you are looking for.
Check it out B4 it's too late..
It's not a windows phone style, I think you misunderstood me.
I just don't like T-mobile rom and its bloatware. The windmobile rom is more clean.
Both phones models are same, exact. I don't see how it would be bricked. It's just a mismatch of bootloader, thus secure check fails. I've seen people with windmobile SGH T999V flash T-mobile rom, and it works perfectly.
It's just SGH T999 tmobile version isn't able to install SGH T999V (windmobile, mobilicity) canadian variant roms because of some block T-mobile setup. Some people had done this, but didn't specificy how though.
I would like to know that please.
If you don't like bloat, then remove it. Don't flash another carrier's rom.

[Q] SGH-i747M rom on SGH-i747

Hey guys.. I'm new to this forum and to flashing ROMs and all that so I need your help..
I used the search option and didn't find a clear answer to this..
I have bought about a month ago an at&t SGS3 SGH-i747 and I am not very happy with the current OS (android 4.1.1 at&t stock ROM) and I want to upgrade it to 4.1.2. After searching google a bit i found out that there IS an official 4.1.2 android from at&t for my device and wherever I go they say to go to settings, about device, software update and update my phone from there but it says that there is no update.
I have searched for a ROM on sammobile and only found a 4.0.4 ROM for my phone.
However, I found out that there is a 4.1.2 ROM for SGS3 SGH-i747M, and some people say that their ROMs will work on my device and some say they won't.
Can someone tell me, if I install a Rogers (for example) i747M ROM on my device will it work without problem? I don't want to stay with the at&t ROM because it has too many limitations on them.
I prefer not to install custom ROMs because they are all a bit unstable..
Sorry if I have bad English, tried my best..
First off an (att) rom will work with a (rogers) phone. I'm using one right now.
Secondly, if you do manage to install a (rogers) rom on your s3 it will probably be missing apn settings and you'll have rogers apps.
Lastly, through my experience with custom roms, I have found that they are far more stable then stock, if you're looking for a good custom touchwiz rom. Look at hyperdrive

What you are describing on Sammobile are the stock firmwares that are flashed through a program called Odin. If you tried flashing a Rogers image, you could potentially brick your phone, or as the user above said, there would be a lot of issues since that is not the firmware for AT&T. Are you rooted? If you are, that is what is causing the upgrade issue, since you have to be 100% stock.

Thanks for your answer. Well, if you say that custom roms are more stable than stock, I won't argue. Just some friends told me otherwise.
I'll try to find a good rom that suits me.
Btw, I don't care if ill have Rogers apps or AT&T apps, they are both useless to me. I just don't want to brick my phone.

I didn't flash a Rogers rom because I couldn't find a clear answer that says that it will not brick my phone. I just seen some people ask about it and didn't get an answer either. I have tried to unroot and flash a stock rom from "samsung-updates.com", a 4.1.1. Its the same as the one that I already had. Still, no update available.

If you flash a ODIN package for rogers on an AT&T phone you may brick it due to bootloader and modem
if you flash a custom zip based on an AT&T rom from XDA you won't brick since they don't contain bootloader or a modem
hope this helps

Help with AT&T S3 in Canada PLEASE!!!

Hey guys how are you all today? I have a quick question... I have rooted and installed MANY custom Roms on MANY different devices.... but never came across this problem yet. I live in Canada and I recently purchased yet another S3, but it is a US model i747 from AT&T.... now my question is, can I install stock rooted Bell or Rogers firmware on the device? Im currently running CM11 and it is a great ROM, however, when I had my S4 I was running Foxhound ROM and loved it as it was the best of both worlds. Now I would like to go back to a stock rooted ROM and use Xposed Framework so I can keep the stock Touchwiz functions, but would like to customize it to give it the AOSP look. So, am I able to flash stock rooted Bell firmware on an AT&T deviceƉ I know this is a newbie question but ive never owned a US device before so I never encountered this problem. Thank you all in advance for helping me clarify this.... Ive tried searching but didnt come up with a solid answer through search. Thanks again.
Jeff
Anybody
Do you have the 4.3 bootloader on your phone? If you do, flashing an older bootloader will brick the phone.
I would not try to flash a stock Canadian ROM as that may also brick your phone because the Canadian and US models appear to use different bootloaders.
Thank you for the reply dude.... no Im running cm11 4.4.2 but on MG2 bootloader... if this helps? I just figured that since the devices are basically the same and you can flash the same custom ROMS that you could POSSIBLY flash stock rooted ROMS from either country as well. You think its possible? Thanks again in advance for the reply!!
Jeff
Going along with what audit13 was saying, you should be safe as long as the ROM doesn't install a modem/baseband or bootloader.
Without the modem and bootloader the ROMs are interchangeable for the i747 and i747M.
If you install a Canadian bootloader there is an excellent chance you will brick your phone.

Fido SGH-I747M: Safe to use CyanogenMod installer?

Hello Everyone!
I wasn't really getting anywhere with Google or searching on this form so I thought I would ask....
Does anyone know if it is ok to use the CyanogenMod installer for the SGH-I747M (Fido) phone? Can anyone confirm!? If so, was there anything that had to be done to prepare?
When I use the installer is says its supported and recognizes it as "Galaxy S3 (ATT/Canadian)".
It doesn't mention my carrier in the list of supported phones, this is why I'm worried, I don't want to brick the thing! However Fido is owned by Rogers so I would hope that they use the same version phones but when I look at the version number for Rogers on the CyanogenMod S3 supported list its mentions that the model number is "SHG-I747R".
If someones could clarify some things that would be great!
Cheers,
Jake
Personally, I would not use an installer. I believe you are better off installing a custom recovery and manually flashing a custom ROM. Also, I find CM11 is not as customizable as some of the other ROMs.
You can flash any ROM and custom recovery that is designed for the d2lte.
Before starting the process of installing a custom ROM, make note of your phone's current bootloader and baseband. Also, flashing a custom recovery will void your warranty if you are on a 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader.
