[Q] Mahdi and CM11 - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have CM11 flashed onto my GPad but I've also seen the a lot of people say that the mahdi rom is very good. I would like to know, what are the main differences between the two and what do you guys prefer and why. And also, currently I am using a magnetic cover on my Gpad, I'd like to know if i'd work with the Mahdi rom.

I am on the verge of acquiring a G Pad and will be flashing either CM11 or Mahdi onto it as soon as possible. I've used CM11 on smartphones quite a bit but haven't run it on a tablet in ages. I've read some people saying that the prefer Mahdi to CM11 and I am also curious about the benefits.

Ive ran both, have mahdi on my nexus 4 (sweet, most stable rom ive used) and tried it on my gpad. I ended up using
[ROM][KK][4.4.2][LINARO/SABERMOD] CyanogenMod 11 [NIGHTLY BUILDS]
It ended up being the easiest to configure and longest battery life (10% an hour with 480p you tube and surfing)
If you want features, go with mahdi and disable/enable what you want.
If you want the latest patched everything and just plug and go, use LINARO/SABERMOD

I'm also curious about this. I'm running Mahdi ROM now and was planning to do so for at least a few weeks. I've been running CM on my phone and 2 Kindles and love it. I'll probably try CM on my LG after a bit, but would like other's thoughts on the difference between them. Thanks for the input nightanole. Why did you choose the LINARO/SABERMOD and not the "Official" CM ROM?

+1 for linaro
Not too many settings but great so far otherwise. I'm just missing a couple of things from xposed which doesn't work on art yet

Well.. You Need To Ask Yourself A Question.
A) Do you like flashing your Pad Daily? - Every Other Day? - Weekly?
or
B) Flashing your Pad ONCE and have ALL of the options available with 100% Stabilty ?
If you choose "A" you want either the CM Nightlies or Infected's Custom CM Nightlies.
If you choose "B" you will have the most Featured Filled & Stable ROM the G-Pad has ever seen with the Mahdi-ROM. Flash Once.. and your done.

Actually I run CM nightly on my phone and haven't re-flashed in a couple of months. To each his own.

I don't think it's that bad with flashing. In CM 11 it can even be done OTA and you can set up if you only want stable or nightlys

Yes I agree, that flashing nightlies is easy. All I'm saying is that at least on my phone, the nightlies are so stable there isn't any need to flash often. Maybe not so on the LG?

I am using the mahdi, it work so well, so i won't try cm11.

i have my g pad just for 2 days and make root in first day,i love infra red but stock room have a lot lag.so i installed lrs cuz i read about based stock and all working.but have lag too not much, but have.
so i decide install mahdi rom and veryyy nice rom love this so smoth and i have always more that 1 giga free ram,i think the sound not loud enough.and i want so much remote again.kkkkk
lg keyboard its pretty good in stock but now i use swyftkey.so its this my opinion.sorry very bad english.

i can confirm that magnetic cover works fine on mahdi, also knock on and off, but this is entirely kernel dependent i believe.
the main frustration with the non GPE gpad is lack of kernels, imo, 2 i'm aware of plus whatever comes stock on the all the various roms. there is not one yet that is stable enough , allows UV and most features. i hope when LG releases official kitkat for gpad, this changes, but i'm not holding my breath.

Look my consume with mahdi room with no use in mode Airplane.

Might Get A G2. Which ROM?

Hey guys.
I'm currently the owner of an HTC HD2 that's running a NAND installation of Android 2.3. (HyperDroidGBX)
I have a potential trade in place to give someone here my HD2 for his G2.
I was wondering if you guys could tell me what current ROM seems to be the fastest for the G2.
I'd like to do some research before I pull the trigger on the deal, and any info you can provide would be extremely appreciated. I know there's no such thing as a "Best" ROM as everyone's tastes are different, but there's usually a couple that stand out speed-wise.
Thanks!
Try CM7 nightly~

Thanks, I'll read up on that one.
What exactly is the whole "nightly" thing?
HD2 has them as well, and never understood what it meant.
nightly means it gets updated nightly.
you don't flash a new rom but every night there's a new update and changes are made to the rom
do you like HTC Sense? if so, go Virtuous
if you prefer not to have HTC Sense, then go CM7. Start with the stable build then when you're confident, go nightly.
Ultimatedroid is the fastest hands down. Any of the gingersense type roms are decent. But for smooth and fast UD is where its at regardless of what certain people might say in response to this..
Sent from my Vision using XDA Premium App
meXdroid meXperia rom definitely. Most themed and efficient. Quite smooth
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Mexdroid! It's built off CM, and has great custom theming and other tweaks.
Personally I am sticking with the stock (rooted) ROM until CM7 goes stable (and is proven as actually stable)
For me stability and all features working is paramount, that philosophy drives me to wipe every time I update, since getting everything back the way it was after I wipe is a PITA I will only update if I know that the new build will work for me for several months at a minimum.
As I understand it RC4 is almost there (there still seem to be some lingering GPS and other issues) but since the final release is likely imminent I don't want to wipe & install RC4 only to wipe again in a few weeks to install the final release.
If you don't feel the need to wipe between updates (which IMO produces instability) or you don't need 100% reliability in general I'd say go for RC4.
Dude, all roms i use r stable 98% of time. Don't stick with stock cuz u hear bad stuff. Reputable roms are daily drivers. Any problems pop up i just reboot and usually they go away. You're missing out bigtime yo

I don't mind a few hiccups in exchange for customization.
I'm running HyperDroid GBX on my HD2 right now, and it's awesome. Really fast, stable, and generally fine for a daily driver.
Wouldn't mind something similar on the G2. Sounds like the CM7 nightly might be the one.
Although knowing me, I'd probably try a few anyway.
I like a clean look, which is why I like HyperDroid so much:

The G2 I'm getting is untouched. It's on stock ROM, no root, etc.
I've read on some threads that rooting has a high risk of bricking the phone. Is this true?
I have only done work on the HD2 so far. Plenty of experience with that, but I never really ran the risk of bricking as long as I had the right radio/ROM combo.
I used to have hd2 and develope for it now I make a close to stock gingerbread build 2.3.3 based on cm7 newest nightlys removing almost all cm stuff it is really fast and greet battery life
Use gfree method worked for me and to have less of risk don't flash enginnering boot loader. That's the only way to brick your phone

What kind of ROM you running ? Stock or AOSP ?

Just got my Note 2 last night Awesome device, a bit bigger than my old international One X running CM10, but getting used to size. I rooted it out of the box, man it was the easiest quickest root ever for me. Just installed a stock ROM ( cleanrom ) and simple ICS blue theme to start off, and try out the S-Pen and Touchwiz features. So far so good, running on Straight Talk ATT sim, very fast, great service today so far. .
I have been on stock AOSP Android for years, Nexus-One, Nexus-S, Galaxy Nexus, One X running CM10. I did have the Galaxy S II running a good stock Touchwiz ROM and heavily ICS theme which I liked a lot.
Curious what are you running ? Stock Touchwiz based ROM, or AOSP CM10.1 ROM ? I love AOSP, but are any of the CM10 based ROM's for the ATT Note II good enough as a daily ROM with little bugs ? But AOSP ROM's on the Note II get rid of all the S-Pen features and note writing ? I mean the S-Pen is a big deal on the Note phones, would suck to lose all those features, but then again AOSP is awesome if a good stable and quality ROM.
Of the AOSP ROM's which one for our Note II is the most stable, and offer custom DPI and cool features above and beyond just stock nightly CM10.1 ? And of the stock Touchwiz ROM's which is your favorite, with cool themes and dark apps ? So many to chose from
I am using Nova launcher, and makes the phone look more stock, with cool features, and the 6 x 6 grid fits the Note perfectly. I am shocked actually with Nova on a stock cleanrom, it does feel act very much like stock AOSP.
Thank you
I was on CleanROM SE for a while and everything ran really good. All the stock Sammy features were there.
I just switched over to CM10.1 because I dont use all the SPen features and Samsung stuff so I figured to give it a go. Its pretty stable. Love the stock group messaging. The camcorder volume doesnt work....but there has been a update post today saying it is working now with a reflash of an updated version. That makes google now work and camcorder audio. I havent checked it myself yet. I have NOVA running as my launcher and its nice. If you dont need all the sammy stuff I would say give it a shot. If you need all the Sammy stuff CleanROM SE is awesome.
I really just like not having a ton of Sammy stuff running on the phone that I dont use. My apps in memory went from 1 gig on CleanROM SE to 750 megs on CM10.1. I really like all the stock stuff that CM10.1 has right off the bat. Being able to change all the notification colors, toggles, right swipe down for other toggles on the notification bar. Its not perfect but I dont mind.

Running this one currently.
[ROM][SGH-I317 / t0lte][JB][4.2.1] CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies
Holy cow, battery life after one day is AMAZING
Unplugged for 17 hours now, been using it nonstop, almost 6 hours screen time. Battery @ 33% :good:
yeah Scott's ROM is most excellent. The most I got out of it was 5 1/2 hours screen and just over a day off the charger.
The reasons I switched
1) I like to tinker and have never used a CM ROM
2) I was running the original version of SE and needed to update to 1.2 and in order to do that I had to wipe/factory reset etc so I figured why not try it.
3) I was really digging the stock feel of android....and all the options available directly from stock.
I already have CleanROM SE 1.2 on my external SD because if I go back that will be the one. Great battery life on the stock experience.

Same here, I've had nothing but nexus phones for the past 2 years until I bought the s3, then sold it for the nexus 4. I was one of the few lucky to people to get a order through on the release day. But after having it for a month I realized I do not like lg phones. But yeah I like stock touchwiz. I'm currently running the international ROM because I really like seeing the h+. its a great phone

Tried a couple aosp roms, but keep coming back to tw. Ran lots of aokp roms on my nexus and note 1, so tw is different to me. As cool as cm based roms are, just seems like my old phone.

ROMS for LG Optimus G

Anyone recommend a ROM that I could flash onto my LG OG. I've heard Lifeless is pretty good but I've yet to see any screen of it or what is featured. I have CM on my Epic 4G and would rather not have it on my current phone as well. I've seen Paranoid Android and really like that but have they ported that onto LGOG yet? Any other suggestions would be pretty sweet

Hit up the ROM Review. Also, what is your skill level and what are you looking for in a "ROM".
Stock Based
Agent- Beginner user that likes stock but wants more control and performance tweaks
Lifeless- Flashaholic that like bells and whistles and predefined goodies
Initiative- Advanced user that want a minimal base to build to suit.
AOSP/CM Based (some things are still broken but gives you "I has the latest" bragging rights)
CM- Flashaholic that loves him some Cyan Jellies
AOSP Eos 4.0- Flashaholic prefer to get as close to pure Android as possible while getting some nice bells and whistles
AOKP- Flashaholic that does care where the code comes from just as long as it works.
I've been linked to! Oh, joyous day.
Lifeless and Initiative sounds pretty good, but I'm most interested in Paranoid Android. I like the hybrid feature but to my knowledge, it was just recently ported and not everything works yet

I've been want to root this phone soo bad, but there are some downsides is that.. I messed up the battery life due to previous phone I had when I constantly charge it every time the battery dies within 5 hours or so, (I'm in school for 8 hours, graduating senior) and the reception gets sucky some parts of school (normal with everyone's phones that school blocks the receptions) and some areas in Newport News. I have this phone for two weeks now and I really love it. Is there any pro and cons to this ROM as posted for link? I love the minimalistic look.

Thanks about for the link. One other question. I've been trying to get the YouTube app UI to look like the 3D-ish the way it does on tablet. Mind you, my 2 hours GPS is using real GPS while going out on my bike. Drainage is around 10% a hour while playing music on the speaker as well. I never turn off GPS positioning on the phone.
Anyway seems like battery life on 4.4 is on par with 4.3... Would probably be a little better if using ART but qremote won't work so... :crying:

I've seen vast improvements in terms of battery life on KK. But I ended up sticking to MIUI as the custom kernel in it gives me the best battery life I've seen on this device. I've done extensive tests on ways to improve battery life across all of my devices for the last 3 years and it mainly seems to boil down to the kernel. As we don't have any custom kernels that support 4.4 or a stable 4.3 kernel, we're stuck using the default CM kernel. The new MIUI over in the general section includes a very well made custom kernel that includes the intellidemand governor which would give me around 6 hours of screen on time in a days use with normal usage with the setup I use. MIUI also gives me the best deep sleep I've seen on.. Well, any device I've used lol. Never been a big fan of it but the battery life is what made me change my mind. It also includes a working version of qremote. The only drawback I've seen is that it's on 4.2.2 but man, is it nice. I'd post battery life screenshots but they wouldn't really be helpful as I've changed to the 9300mAh ZL battery lol.

What ROM you're using, Why?

What ROM are you using and why?
I'm currently using Beanstalk 4.4.255
I chose this because it seemed pretty basic to me. Customization SMS, and the ViPER Audio mod thing. Just the features in General, looked like a very decent ROM.
I'm currently on Warpdrive 4.4.2 because I want a KK TW ROM that's super debloated.

Super Debloated, heh that must be nice! How is that ROM treating you so far?
Right now I'm actually using stock 4.4.2. I've rooted and debloated it myself. Just wanted to try it When not on stock I switch between wicked, cm, carbon, omni. All great ROMs. I like messing around with all the roms. The devs here do a great job.
Be careful this doesn't become a "which is best thread" as it's frowned upon here...
Ok, currently I'm on on The Sickness' Insane Kit Kat Rom. I've got Hyperdrive RL S15 installed and then nandroid backed up. I've also got My stock rom debloated my me with several modifications also nandroid backed up. I've checked out Wicked V10 and the Vision X and Warp Drive 4.4. I'm checking out all the TW roms I see and deciding if I like them better them my modified stock. I stay with TW roms for the wifi calling. I work in a building with tin walls so I have absolutely crappy to no reception most of the time I'm at work. In the next day or so I'll be backing up the Insane rom I'm using and then looking for another good rom to check out. I do take suggestions.
I use two roms. Wicked v10 is my primary TW-based rom (after a little debloating), and Pac-Man is my secondary rom, for when I crave that "Nexus" feel
For the last couple months I've really been stuck on Danvdh's GPE roms. I've switched between 4.3 and 4.4 a couple times. Right now, I'm on 4.4. The small size of GPE roms and excellent Xposed mods make it a perfect fit for me. Honestly, I am starting to miss TW a little bit for some strange reason.
Im using insane kit kat 4.4.2 by the sickness also debloated. Haven't had any issues what so ever great rom all around. As a matter of fact its so awesome and the fact that its a custom rom you would think it came from samsung as an official custom firmware juiced up and tweaked up rom. Loving everything about it and then some. To tell you all the truth I dont think im ever gona stop using this as my daily on my sg4.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
I'm on Fenny's stock Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51043905 , debloated and super stable with great battery life . Stock ROMs don't get any better than Fenny's.
I don't want to fiddle with my phone all day long trying to keep it running, and when I need it to work it has to be on point. And it has a unlimited tether mod.
This will be my daily driver until my next phone.
