No flash will turn on or download mode, I hold Vol Up +Down button and nothing. Tried taking of battery and nothing....I was using CWM recovery to flash a overclock kernal. But installation aborted so i reinstalled the kernal i had before. After that i rebooted system and from there it stayed off :with 90% battery life. Any Idea on how to fix?
That's a bummer...have you googled unbricking the sgs3? Maybe try making a jig..super easy to do and saved my arse a few times! Good luck

So the phone won't turn on at all? Not even a short vibrate?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and immediately hold down home, volume up, and power. As soon as it vibrates let go of power while still holding down home and volume up. Should get you to recovery mode.
gonna echo try using a jig.
Try volume up (or down, I forget) + power + home button all the same time. If it doesn't work by itself, try plugging the phone into your computer at the same time.
Worked for me when I flashed the euro mods when sgs3 first came out

Ok take a breather, stress makes this seem like a catastrophe.
Pull the battery. Put in the battery. It won't turn on after a battery pull until you turn it on, which is why it's recommended. Press and hold volume up + power and home at the same time when you feel the first rumble and see the Samsung logo let go of power and keep holding the other two buttons.
Its literally all about timing. Might take two or three tries.
Trust me there is no damage from a boot loop. I flashed back to stock this morning and had to do the same thing I'm explaining right now. Took me 3 tries and I've done this a hell of a lot of times.

Pull the battery. Replace. Immediately press Vol up + home + power in that order. Do not just press the power button first nor just by itself. Release just the power button as soon you get a vibrate
Different guy having the same problem with the same solution we are suggesting. Just timing.

Just do this:
Hook up the phone without a battery... While holding only Home and Vol-Down insert the battery and continue to hold them... The USB will force it into Download mode while holding them and putting in the battery... Flash it with Odin...

You need to be in download mode to use odin, not recovery mode
Vol down instead of Vol up in button combo

When phone is completely turned off. Press and hold Vol Up + Power, this will get you into fastboot. Once here, press down twice, then press power.
You will now be in TWRP

I tried that for about 15 mins, and it didn't work. I then tried pressing down 3X instead of 2, and that got me into TWRP recovery. Just to make sure, I got out of recovery and rebooted. Once it started bootlooping again, I tried 2X, didn't work. Went through the procedure but down 3X again, all is well. Using version 2.5.0.0.

It should be 2x, only thing I can think of is if you are pressing the dwn button fast and it's not registering one of them. I know I have done that in the past.

You have to hold both volume up and down while powering up
Then when you get to fastboot press volume down twice and power

Holding both volumes in is for getting you into download mode, if you are looking to get into recovery from power off it's Vol Up + Power > Vol
Down 2x > Power.
I am currently looping at the LG loading screen. When I hold down up + power it doesn't put me into recovery mode. After a few moments it just turns the phone off. Anyone have any idea of what I can do now??
Volume up and power to fastboot screen, then volume down twice then power

Try holding volume down and power. If it takes you to stock (aosp style) recovery then you need to unlock with freegee

AFschizoid I can't thank you enough for all the help you have been. I think I really did it this time though. Neither up or down brings me anywhere. The phone turns on, shows the LG logo and then after a bit the screen goes off. This happens if I do up, down, or both.
Hold the power button for LITERALLY like 2 minutes straight to let any residual power drain out after turning off. Then go ahead and hold vol down first and then press and hold power at the same time. If that doesn't bring you to stock recovery, repeat the power off then try with vol up. If that doesn't work, again, turn off and hold power button for a couple minutes to discharge then hold both volume buttons and plug in to your computer to see if download mode comes up

Thank you AFschizoid, trying it now. Will post results when im done.

Yup.....I really F-ed up this time. Tried it all three ways and no change... The odd thing is that I have had my ROM for two days and have been able to get into recovery before. I haven't made any changes. Lost signal earlier today and rebooted my phone to see if it would fix it, now it wont even start.
[EDIT] I think I know what did it. I tried to recover using FreeGee earlier when we were discussing the EFS. It failed but it probably messed up my unlock
So you can't even get download mode? Jeez. I don't know then lol

Think Sprint would fall for the new ZVC update bricked my phone?
Yeah if there was a bad flash of the SBL stack then you're sol. Download mode is in the SBL stack so if that didn't flash right then it's probably hard bricked

Thank you very much AFschizoid you have been a godsend!
Well... i found this in the teenybins thread... try it
For most soft bricks you will see a LG or Google logo and then a black screen. You can also still get into download mode. If you think download mode may not even work, connect phone to a Windows computer and check device manager... if the phone is detected in a "QHSUSB-DLOAD" then there's a good chance you're perm bricked. Otherwise.. you may just be a n00b and aren't doing download mode correctly.
Well the phone is detected but it just shows as a USB Composite Device. So if it is not hard bricked then maybe it just wont actually shut off. Maybe the screen is just blacking out and when I try the power button again it wakes it up. I can't imagine that I am holding the vol down and power button incorrectly. Only so many ways to do it Thank you for the find!
Are you leaving it plugged in when trying to turn it off? Because that won't work, it will keep booting into 'charge mode' so Unplug it, and retry everything
Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4
Successfully rooted using Odin, installed ROM Manager and TWRP2 and tried making a ROM backup through ROM Manager before I made any substantial changes to the device. It almost immediately rebooted and didn't seem to do anything. Went back into ROM Manager and changed the recovery to CWM latest, and tried the backup again. It almost immediately shutdown and didn't come back up.
Anything I do to power it on fails (just holding power, or power + Vol Down + home, or power + Vol Up + home). All three methods, I get a very brief screen with the Samsung logo and in the top left corner 'Recovery booting' in blue. It's only there for a split second and it turns back off
It will not boot normally, to recovery, or to download mode... Did I hose it by replacing TWRP2 with CWM somehow?
Any ideas on how to at least get it to boot again to any state?
[Edit: plugging it in to my computer leads to it vibrating briefly every 3 seconds
Thanks,
PK
Interestingly... With it plugged in to my laptop (buzzing every 3 seconds), just holding Vol Down + Home got it to boot to download mode (without touching the power button). Was able to the download the stock ROM and root again through Odin. Still just have to hold Vol Down and Home to get to download mode (using the power button in the combination kills it... :/ )
It's possible you're experiencing a variation of the sudden death syndrome, which is a physical issue with the power button. You can search Google or XDA for it, but if it is the power button failing, you can return it to Sprint for free.

I was performing a recovery last night after trying a couple of different ROMs using TWRP 2.5.0.0. This morning I tried to turn on the phone but there was no power to the screen. The most I could get it to do was have the power LED show when plugged in, or briefly show the charge screen when it's plugged in as well.
I am still able to get into Download Mode, so I tried going back to stock with LGNPST. I noticed under Model it shows Unknown. After flashing, it'll just bootloop to the LG screen and still won't even bother powering when unplugged. Before or after flashing, I was unable to get into Recovery Mode.
The last ROM I was on was SuperNexus, attempting recovery to Lifeless. Or at least I'm pretty sure it was Lifeless, as it was one of the few ROMS where camera natively works.
The only other clue I can give to this problem is that I told TWRP to recover EVERYTHING, including things like cache. This never gave me a problem before, so this is unusual. The backup, to my knowledge, didn't have compression. Another oddity I found before performing the recovery is that the recovery files were not immediately available. I had to tap on my storage directory and select internal storage.
I didn't find this topic with the keywords I searched for, so little scary if this is the first problem of its kind. Any ideas?

Can you ADb install/side load the recovery ? Can't remember the exact commands but I'm certain a quick Google should tell you,
Something to note, I think the phone's dependant upon USB power on the observation that the LG screen cuts out as soon as I pull the plug.

Just tried flashing a TinyBeen recovery as those have traditionally been more reliable for me than stock recovery. Still a no-go for booting into Recovery. I go through the key-presses and it'll go to a black, unpowered screen. I'll press the keys for Recovery mode and it goes back into its bootloop. Screen for loop this time is charge indicator.
Try holding down the power button and the volume down button, after the led lights flash release the power button while still holding down the volume down button. That should get you to stock recovery to factory wipe

turn off the phone completely, then hold the vol down, power, and where the home button is at the same time til the captive lights flash then let go. this will get you into stock recovery where you can do a factory reset. this will erase ALL DATA is the only downside

Were you on a nearly dead charge? My phone was left on my computer the entire night. My USB ports maintain power after shutdown so I'm able to charge of my PC. My battery should have a full charge. I'm wondering if it needs a genuine battery pull or if memory has been corrupted as LGNPST doesn't recognize what it is anymore.

For myself and this particular hardware recovery is non-functional.
Attempted a reflash to stock in order to try recovery one more time. Still a no-go. Once the capacitive lights are lit, it just powers down. What would cause LGNPST to not recognize the hardware?
Le sigh... I think it's officially a paperweight unless LG is willing to take another look at it. At least it's on stock, so I have a small chance.
Damn, maybe the device is too low to access recovery. The only the thing I can think of is taking off the back and do a manual battery pull. If that doesn't solve the problem then send it in. Good luck man

Pwr Off (by holding onto power button for like 30 seconds). Vol down + power... wait until buttons light up. Immediately release power button while still holding vol down. You will boot into stock recovery. Select Factory Reset.
