Hi - forgive me if this has been covered already.
About 12/18 months ago I flashed a version of AR onto my HTC One X - absolutely brilliant! Thing that impressed me the most was the battery life which more than doubled. Well, before Christmas I installed CM10.2 - it took a while to figure out where I was going wrong, and did have a bit of help from one or two people on here, thank you very much.
However, I can practically watch my battery drain now. So I have a couple of questions please...
Firstly, I've plaid with with the performance tweaks but they don't seem to do a great deal. I've restricted my CPU speed and a couple of other mods but it doesn't seem to do a great deal. Is there anything else I can do so that my battery lasts past midday?
Secondly I have had to freeze Theme Provider using Titanium Backup because I got that annoying pop up window after installing/uninstalling a theme. Is there a simple way of getting this back?
Finally (I know I said a couple of questions - sorry), if I wanted to revert back to ARHD, all the ROM's for seem to be for 4.2 or below only, yet I have 4.3.1. Is this right? If not, could somebody point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks in advance
Battery life sense vs aosp has been discussed many times, read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543222
4.2.2 is the latest and final release by HTC, sadly there will be no more official updates.

Thanks for the info - this site is huge, you could spend hours reading through all the threads.
But why does my phone say 'Android Version 4.3.1' if 4.2.2 is the final

last official from htc is 4.2.2
It says 4.3.1 because you are on a custom rom. For instance there are now aosp roms (cm11).that's android 4.4 ...... Sense roms are indeed up to 4.2.2 and not beyond that.

I see, thanks. So, to go back to installing the latest version of Android Revolution isn't just as simple as getting the latest ROM for your mobile phone then?
If you want a custom sense 5 rom then i suggest to use philz touch recovery 5.15 and install a clean new sense 5 rom. If you want to go back to 100% stock rom you need a nandroid backup of the stock rom.

So, since AlphaRev is comming soon(-ish) I would like to get some information about roms. Or some suggestions.
I'm looking for a non-sense rom, that is fast (preferably Gingerbread).
Also; If I install CM7 (GB) will I have to install any custom kernels for overclocking?
Thank you for your help :]
No, CM7 comes with a kernel that supports overclocking by default.
ROM List here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
Thanks for that info.
Concerning your list, I'm looking for some input from other users
Can't really help you there, because the only AOSP (Non - Sense) ROM I have used till date is CM7, both stable and nightlies. Personally, I am very satisfied with it, and would whole heartedly recommend it, but, ROM choice is a personal thing.

What is the main advantage of nightlies over the stable one?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
Nightlies integrate many changes, developed over time. They are kind of "unofficial / beta builds", so there's no official support for bugs on those. Thus, nightlies may give new features, but may also have the potential for introducing new bugs.
One example: The nightlies use Android 2.3.4 since quite a while back, but all stable versions are still on 2.3.3. The next stable version will obviously incorporate 2.3.4
Thank you
Guess I'll go for the stable cm7 once AlphaRevX comes.

My HOX is my first android phone, having come from the darkside :good:
Learnt an awful lot reading on here so far.. managed to Root n boot it & now stuck with ROMs
Thinking from reading that the ARHD is the way to go to begin with, but a couple of questions should I flash the latest available or is it worth waiting for one based on an official release rather than the current leaked HTC?
Secondly I'm still not sure on the kernels business & whether I should just leave that well alone for now?

I suggest you try the newest, it has plenty of fixes: heating is gone, launcher is 60fps.
Kernels are just matter of preference, stock kernel is the most stable and newer one. Gaming is a lot of better with custom kernel like Franco or faux if you use interactive governor.
I'm using the leaked base ARHD with stock kernel and having no problems at all!

I'll say the newest Arhd is all fine. It fixes some heat issues found on previous base(1.29.x). The latest one is better optimized(think it's 7.1, the arhd version(base 2.x)) and stock kernel will be fine. If you game a lot, which I'm sure you'll probably do some time, whether it be now or later. Leave the kernel for now, you'll probably know when or whether you want a different kernel.

Is there any particular reason to root ? Unless you hate the Sense UI or want to install some mod, the new 4.0.4 update is pretty smooth and good with battery life (battery is better than most other AOSP JB ROMs with custom kernels out there).

I was asking OP, because he/she is hesitating. Perhaps the problem OP is having can be resolved without rooting.
@fredfb : Rooting CAN hurt, because rooting requires you to unlock the bootloader, (and if you haven't already read or heard) that can void your warranty !!
P.S: I'm already running a custom ROM, have tried couple of AOSP JB ROMs, but battery life and lack of a decent camera forced me to come back to Sense, now I'm on Viper X, I like the quick settings and the ability to customize various other things, but I can certainly live without them. And I assume many others can too.. So why risk loosing warranty if there is no benefit ??
I always have this urge to get the newest of things. But maybe there are not that many new features. Is battery life that bad in custom roms? I get almost two days of battery life with moderate use.

Hey Guys,
tl;dr: is there a list that tells you what rom works with what cid/baseband? and what is the latest ARHD version that works for HTC One X HTC One X CID VODAP001 / Baseband 1.28.161.9 Vodafone UK edition
Full story:
I just lost all my data trying to install ARHD 13 without properly reading the guidelines. lol :*(
My HTC One X is CID VODAP001 / Baseband 1.28.161.9 and obviously not compatible with all the jelly bean roms.
Then i tried installing the ARHD 9.7.2. rom and that didn't work either. I got it installed but when i tried booting it for the first time it would crash and just reboot and to the same all over again.
So now i am back on the old RUU vodafone official release which is full of bloatware and just drains the battery so much faster.
I am wondering how would i know which ARHD is suitable for my device? Or is it all trial and error? And is there a repository for the older versions of ARHD. Same question for CyanogenMod?
Thanks for your help!

You're right, 972 is an ICS ROM.
I'm personally not using ARHD, so I wouldn't know which one to recommend, honestly. Try reading Mike's thread, and I bet you'll find the answers.
I could also recommend you the ICS ROM that I am using. Or eve better, try few ROMs for a few charge cycles to kill time until JB is released.

i am totally willing to do that! and yes would be very interested in the rom your using... i just want none of the sense bloatware and speed and battery improvements.
i did just now try
numero1 rom
renovate ics version 5.8
they didn't work either for their newest iteration based on ICS... i just think its so odd that none of the ICS work for me...
i am going to try this one now: viperX v2.7.1 (Sense 4.1)
i did sift through quite a bit of mikes thread but to be honest i had a hard time knowing what is relevant for me and what issn't. i understood i should've gone for the ICS build but once that failed i don't even know where to begin searching for the problem..
yeah viper 2.6 or 2.0 didn't work either... they boot then they crash... not much options it seems for this device....
Sounds like you're not wiping the cache and dalvik cache. ARHD 9.7.2 should work, you can use the superwipe.
Hi ben thanks for your reply. I ran the wipe script provided on the arhd thread i run it everytime i install.
But its good that you let me kmow that arhd 972 should work then i can look for solutions.
Any more ideas?

I'm with Vodafone and have a VODA CID but am running ARHD 9.7.2. You only need to check your cid number for Jelly Bean roms
When you installed 9.7.2 did you flash the boot.img for the 9.7.x rom? Not flashing the boot.img will cause the boot loop error you got
Also did you do a superwipe? You need to do this if coming from another rom including stock rioms.
When changing roms you will loose all your data on the phone memory so do a backup. The data on your virtual sd card (photos etc) should still be intact.

yes i got it running. My god its such a difference!!! i had arhd v6 running for a long time then i had the very first RUU running for a few days... now i REALLY appreciate the speed and efficiency of that rom. I have the suite tools on there as well. Love it!
I love maximzing battery run time... I have juice defender with rather extreme settings.. but if you got any other pointers on how to make it last long time always appreciated! did you try other roms as well?
I was also wondering about the rom cleaner. I still have a lot of apps on there that i don't use like teeter, htc notes, htc locations stuff like that... can i remove that with rom cleaner? or is it good enough to user titanium backup to freeze them?
thanks for your reply!

Welcome to XDA my friend!! Alright first off themes and ROMs are two completely different things. Themes are just skins you can swap in and out on your phone without changing any software. ROMs replace phone software with newer versions. If you would like to get a theme I suggest downloading this app called Themer by MyColorScreen. For ROMs you will need a custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP. I am currently using CWM (ClockworkMod). Using the CWM recovery you can "flash" roms (basically installing them). I am currently running 4.4 QuantumROM by PwnCakes. It is beautiful!! If you would like to theme go with the Themer app but if you wanna go further than just reply here!!

If you want to start out with themes go to the Play Store and ckeck out Colbalt themes by dustinb. They come in many colors for cm 9 & 10. I also liked killer blue, has nice graphics. If you are going to flash roms use the CWM recovery. Not as pretty as TWP but TWP is not compatable with 4.4. Also i am currenty favor the PAC man rom. Nice, fast and stable. It is a 4.3 rom. I have tried a few 4.4 roms but a little unstable for a daily driver. Also.if you start with the PAC rom it is a hybrid and has several varieties built in and has tons of options to play with.
Thank you both for the help. I will probably just start out with different themes until I understand ROMs a little more. :good:

Also go on over and check out QuantumRom by PwnCakes. It is 4.4 and is just beautiful. To get CWM go to the play store and download the cwm recovery app.
Thanks for the Response

Hey,
Thanks for replying. So I can't get the Recovery App because it does not support my phone (AT&T). So I ended up using terminal and the .img file to get CWM onto my phone. So is it possible to get CM 10.2 then?
Will a release come out later allowing me to revert to stock? In the meantime can you walk me through CM?
Thanks so much from this hopeless noob.
First off, welcome to XDA. Like everyone else has said, Quantum is the way to go. For good themes, Mianogen and Gem Flat are my favorite. There's a free version of Mianogen and a paid, and for Gem Flat, it's $1.88, but well worth it. If you wanna give it a shot, custom icon packs are also really nice. Mianogen comes with its own icons, but hands down, Nox by Kovdev is the best with 1000s of really nice icons.

The app for CWM is called ROM Manager, for now, I don't know about the 4.3 update since I've been on Quantum for a few months. What would you like to know about CM? Its the easiest ROM to learn to use and is close to vanilla, while still being useful.

This post makes absolutely no sense. First you mention themes for a custom rom, which the op and question at hand obviously have no experience with. Secondly blindly stating that TWRP doesn't work with 4.4 is beyond ridiculous seeing as I just flashed Beanstalk 4.4 today just fine with TWRP 2.6.1.1. It is wonderful that you are trying to help someone with a problem or question, but i makes me sick when people casually throw out advice without any regard to the issue at hand or the ramifications of their words.

I Somewhat agree, IIRC, TWRP became compatible with 4.4 about a week or so after 4.4's release, right? As choosing one or the other, I've never even tried TWRP, but I've never had any issues with CWM, so I'm happy. And as for the ROM, I think the simpler it is, the easier it is to get used to. Sometimes having hundreds of customizations can be a bit overwhelming.

Personally i was using CWM recovery when it was the only option besides stock, and it always did a fine job at what it was intended to do. In the last year or so i started using TWRP solely for the purpose of its free touch based UI. Yes you can find CWM touch on the net for free, but they are asking for payment for it so i opted out. Both work great at what they do, and although one or the other may lag a bit from time to time keeping up with changes in the android world, as fast as things move these hiccups are to be expected.
