So this is the story.
I have a friend who went on a vacation from Croatia to the UK. In the UK, he bought the HTc One X there, locked on o2 network. He sold that device to me, and he told me that i can unlock the device by purchasing unlock code from eBay. I purchased several codes, but i keep getting error - incorrect password.
I really have no choice, i cant sell that device to anybody, neither i can use it on Croatian networks.
Also, i have made factory reset, but it seems that neither this helps me.
Also, when i try to update software to 4.2.2, in middle of installation red exclamation mark shows up, then phone reboots. Please help me.
Device is not rooted, has stock recovery installed, bootloader is relocked, and stock 4.1.1 is installed.
Is there any other method of unlocking the device except entering the unlock code.
Thanks in advance

You must to ask the code from O2 some vendors change the codes for unlock sim card. NO other method to unlock the device except if you are S-OFF but I think you are S-ON. You can see this when you go in bootloader.
I already asked them for the code, they cant give it to me because i live in croatia

OK your friend to go to O2 in UK and ask them for the code. No other way.
Well, it is not possible, he will not go to the uk for just one code.
Can you help me about ota failing?

The rom is not stock enough, it stalls at framework patches. Something is deleted which not should have ! You have to restore a new stock nandroid.
This means unlocking of the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, flash a boot.img, making a full wipe and restore a new nand.
I am willing to do everything, pls explatin this everything step by step.
Also it is possible to make a backup of all apps? I have pretty a lot of big apps, and i would not like to loose progress on every game(GTA SA, Real Racing 3, Dead Trigger, Riptide GP2 and many other games. Thanks in advance

Yeah, backup data via recovery, or via titanium backup app

Hello everyone!
I'm new here as you can see it's my first post.
I have just rooted my HTC One X today and I would like to know what the easiest way to delete the stock apps from the phone is such as the Amazon app. Since i'm new I am very unsure how to do this and yes I did search on how to do it and found a solution by using a android terminal application but I am unsure if it either works for HTC One X or if there is a easier solution to do this.
(Unrelated to the topic)
I also wonder how you guys updated your HTC One X because I haven't recieved a OTA Update? (I suppose that's what they call it) for my phone and I am still on 1.26 and my carries is "Three".
Thanks and hopefully ya'll can give me some advice since I am a big newby ^^
Only way to fully remove stock apps is to unlock the phones bootloader via HTC website (voids part of warranty) and the either install custom rom or root the stock one.
only thing you can do with standard phone is disable the apps you dont want. think this just stops it from showing in your app drawer and menus etc but its not removed.
For the update there are some threads in the one x section about each ota updates, im sure i read in one of them three are yet to release theirs.
I'm on three and had mine but I have a sim free phone.
This thread is your starting point if you want to go down the unlocking/custom rom route.

Thanks very helpful reply!
If I unlock my phone at Three as in sim card unlock to use any carrier does this mean I will get the OTA update?
Thanks i'll check out the feature of hiding the stock apps.

Not sure how it works to be honest, I'm a nooby myself.
If you unlock your bootloader you can download the ota updates from people on xda and flash them to your phone but that will require you to do a bit of reading if you never done it before.

No,
SIM Lock and the BOOTLOADER Lock are different, Three will just unlock your sim to use on other networks, HTCDev will unlock your bootloader to flash custom ROM's but VOIDS WARRANTY

Yeah I understand that, my phone is unlocked (the bootloader) and is rooted aswell. We're now talking about the OTA Update in order to get it quickly does my phone have to be unlocked as in simcard unlocked? because I heard carriers bring out these OTA updates and Three didn't release it at all.
If your phone is rooted and unlocked you can flash the ota update you want manually.
Find them in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606676
I believe the one most have and the one most current roms are using is 1.28.401.9
you will need CMW recovery to do it if you dont already have it.
I don't think unlocking the sim lock will get the the update over the air, it will still be a three branded phone.
EDIT
actually, reading a few of the posts it that thread it seems unclear if it works, id read the whole thread before attempting it.

Apologies for bumping this thread, I came across this thread through google. I ordered an HTC One X from At&T. I usually remove stock apps completely from my android phones through the superuser command line technique. Would I be able to do this with the HTC One X as well? You seem very knowledgeable. Thanks.
If you have root just install titanium backup and you can use it to remove whatever you please,

Will do. Thanks!
Ok so I did do some search and would like to clear up 3 questions please.
1. If I root then the device is still stock (unless I change other things ) but stock is fine. I only want to root it to use this guide:
http://www.guidingtech.com/10821/disable-3-three-dot-menu-htc-one-x-map-to-task-switcher-button/
and get those annoying 3 dots away from my screen
2. If I root will my warranty still be in tact?
3. If I root will I still get updates that I can install from HTC themselfs?
Off my own topic but regarding the upgrade. My phone was imported from Singapore to South Africa because our service products SUCK!!! The update will still come from the South African service provider correct? Don't even know if they will bring one out anyway so...
ps: I have an HTC One X
Thanks guys
Rooting will in theory void the warranty. But you can always unroot to get warranty back. BUT because that you are unlocking your bootloader, you are also voiding your warranty, completely.
There is no way (as of now) to get back to a state, where you have warranty, from an unlocked bootloader.
Only way to root and "keep" warranty, is it either get S-OFF, or find an exploit so the devs can make an easy program like GingerBreak, to root your phone.
Yes, as long as you are on a stock rom, you will get updates, but I don't know if you will loose root that way. I don't think so, but I am not sure.
you only void the warranty if you unlock from htcdev if for example the software you flash on your phone cause an issue with the motherboard for example like overclocking and such. if you have a hardware issue like a broken screen then you are still under warranty. someone correct me if i am wrong..that is kinda the feeling i am getting by reading through the forum
soooo glad I posted it Just registered an account on HTCDev Not gonna do it that way
Ok, can anyone please let me know how to get rid of those 3 dots then I hate being in a app and it reduces the screen for the dots.
You can't without unlocking and rooting your phone
Use this to root, without unlocking your bootloader.
EDIT: Link removed for now.. Not sure if it is working on the Tegra 3 version.
EDIT 2: You guys just have to wait a few hours! Root is on its way!
From the conversation i had with the online tech support at HTC they said that my warranty would be void if i used the unlocking tool at HTCdev.
I even specifically asked if hardware faults would still be covered and he still said no.

Would someone lead me to a guide for rooting HOX on the NEW software? I just got my new kit today, I don't know if it automatically updates or not. I pretty much want to learn how to get to flashing a ROM.

Use it as stock for a few weeks at least to rule out any manufacturer hardware issues.
Update via the OTA check for updates in settings. (2.17 is the latest)
------
The when you want to play with custom, root of etc....
Install Android SDK
1st step is unlocking the bootloader via HTCdev
Then flashing clockworkmod touch recovery
Then flashing a rom of choice, all which have root I think.

I would actually emphasize this. So many people have had hardware issues and it will be a struggle to get the phone repaired after rooting via HTCDEV. Spare yourself trouble and give some time to rule out those problems.
Besides you can use that time to get to know the available roms, issues with them and the rooting/flashing process

Sorry I'm just trying to learn here but here I go. Are their any complications of using HTC to unlock the bootloader meaning can't the boot loader be relocked if he is trying to send it in for repairs?

It can be relocked but unlocking the first time sends HTC a notion that your device has been unlocked. And there are several people that are having a tough time getting their phones repaired even though the issues are hardware.
Depending on the country and law it is possible to force them to repair or replace a faulty device but trust me, that process will be a lot faster and simpler if you haven't tampered with the bootloader.
An irrelevant response but that's why I will always go the nexus route when buying android so I could avoid most if not all these issues.

Help with HTC One X ATT version
Hi Guys,
So I have unlocked my HTC One X ATT version using the HTCDev.com site. Now I want to install clockworkmod so I can proceed with custom ROM installations. But all the links that I find to CWM are dead.
Can someone point me to the live links please? I am itching to get the CM10 rom installed on my HOX.
Please note there are plenty of sites and links for international version of HOX but I want for ATT.
Thanks,

Thanks again.
Someone referred to the hasoon unlock tool, but I haven't been able to get that to work.
I followed the instructions, fastboot off, usb debugging on (I'm on windows 8.1), tried it with all of my laptops USB ports (my phone pics/movies are backed up).
Installed the HTC driver, rebooted(the unlocker tool says it's windows 8 compatible), ran everything as administrator
registered at htc dev
ran the "get token ID", and the command prompt is giving me an error, the whole window reads
"daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037
daemon started successfully
error: device not found"
I've noticed in an instructional video on youtube, when the individual plugs his phone into his windows 7 PC, he gets an immediate prompt on his phone allowing that PC debug access @ 4:53 in the video . ( youtube.com/watch?v=FsOaRQoJWWDw I don't get that RSA key prompt, so I'm assuming that's where my problem is?
Anyone know how to fix that? I've tried reinstalling the HTC drivers, rebooting both devices, and revoking certifficates
running win 8.1 x64, pretty standard these days
software version 2.16.651.4
android 4.4.3
I'm not even trying to do anything that crazy, except put the harmon karmon software on my sprint m8

I unlocked my HTC One M8 (from EE) using HTCDev the day after I got it, have been rooted, ran custom Roms, obtained S-Off and now back at stock S-Off.
The only thing about doing it this way is that HTC may have a record of you unlocking your bootloader.
I don't have any experience in doing it any other way (I try and stay away from Toolkits as I find it is better to learn adb and fastboot so you know exactly what you are doing, and it will also help in fixing things if they go wrong).
Thanks for your input I really appreciate it. Can you possibly give a step by step as im new to this. And also would there be a security issue with purchasing from online using personal banking details like amazon, google play etc... Thank you for your responce.

If you want to unlock the official way (HTC may know you have done this) and root, this tells you all you need to know: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
If you don't want to use HTCDev unlocking, your only other real option is obtaining S-Off (via Firewater - may not work on your device, or Sunshine - will work on your device but costs $25).
One thing I will say before attempting ANYTHING is, Read, Read, Read, then Read again.
Make sure you are 100% sure you know what you are doing before attempting anything.
Couple of tips:
1. Make a note of your original CID (fastboot getvar cid) - if its EE it will probably be ORANG001.
2. If you get a custom recovery installed, make a backup of your stock ROM, and keep it somewhere safe - it might be handy to get you out of any problems.
In regards to your other questions: as soon as you root your device you are opening up a potential security risk as apps that ask for root could potentially have access to EVERYTHING on your phone (once you have given it root permissions). I am sure 99.9999999999% of apps that you install from Google Play are totally safe, but you never know.
Some mobile banking apps will not work on rooted devices (Barclays for instance) so be aware of that too!
Hope this helps some!
Stewart

if you don't want to go with custom/rooted ROM, you could unlock bootloader, boot a custom recovery (TWRP, using "fastboot boot <name of TWRP>.img") then make a nandroid backup, adb pull the file, edit it, and adb push it again
Note that this will break OTA updates, unless you restore the original build.prop (and anything else you may have changed)
also if you use HTCdev to unlock, it will wipe your phone including the /data/preload folder which is also needed for OTAs, alternatively you could use sunshine S-Off which doesnt wipe your device but it does cost $25
and if you dont want to mess at all with your phone, look up an app on play store called "prefixer" it doesnt do exactly the same job, but close enough
