Hello!
I have m919 T-Mobile Galaxy s4 but I'm with other carrier (Wind Canada). I rooted the phone about a month ago, I believe, using THIS guide.
I spent yesterday in environment where I didn't had coverage for most of the day, but i haven't gotten it back yet. Sounds really weird as it might be not connected to the fact at all. I have 4G connection active, which means that I have internet, but it keeps 'searching' for service and I can't Call/Text anyone, neither I can receive calls or texts. Instead of the bar at the top showing how good coverage i have it just shows a crossed out circle icon.
I've tried reboots, keeping my phone off for 30mins without battery, taking out sim and putting it back in, changing network modes and resetting APN (all from settings panel).
Have anyone experienced something like that and how do I fix it? It was working perfectly for last couple of months and the phone didn't get any damage yesterday neither.
P.S Did the the regular factory reset (don't know if it affects rooting) but it didn't change anything. =
I have same problem.
Did you solve it? and how?
Haven't solved it, that was the whole point of my post!

Never had this happen to me. Data works off your signal, something is wickedly wrong. I'd flash the modem again if you are on 4.2.2 bootloader (doesn't matter which rom or android version). If that fails, go intonrecovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe data. If that fails, backup your data and Odin flash back to 100% stock. If that fails, more than likely your /efs folder was corrupted.

I think I'm gonna flash it back to 100% stock, but the problem is that I'm on mac and I don't know how to flash it back. Is there any guide on how to do it from MAC platform?
Thanks!!

Ok, so I got heimdall, and got the recovery.img from the other topic. I followed the steps that was provided in the second link, but nothing much changed, it successfully uploaded the recovery.img, then i did recovery boot with power button + home button + volume up, it did some things with a pirate android guy in the back and thats it, booted up. Not sure if I have everything back to stock or not - either way, the issue with the network hasn't been resolved!

Tried this?
go to settings/more networks/Mobile networks/Network operators/Search now......
It might take a minute or two, then show you some networks it finds. Select your provider and it should list some options for you.
need to see Mobile data with a check, Data roaming checked, network mode should be LTE/GSM/WCDMA(auto connect)
If you KNOW what your APN (access Point Name) is you can check if it's correctly there.
It usually is downloaded with the search for network so just try with whatever is ther for now.
Back all the way out, and power off. Take out the battery, wait like 30 seconds, replace the battery and power on again.
See if you get service and can dial out.
Aloha and Good Luck!

Ok, now you might want to call your provider and ask them to remove you from their network and reinsert you again. That procedure will often re-enable normal operation of cellular connectivity.
They will ask you to power down and remove your battery for about a minute, then power up again.
Aloha and Good Luck!
Tried it all
Well im in the same boat here.
I checked the IMEI is correct
i did a full stock MK5 install with Odin without sim inserted and with
*#2263# helps it recognizes the network on the search list (WIND)
but it wont connect (failed to connect try again)
sometimes it connects to 4G and i can use the web
but no calls or sms
i noticed i dont have LTE enabled which ill do tomorrow
i even opened my phone to check that no cables came off as it was in service for a broken screen
tried a different sim from koodo wich also acts weird it connects to data but wont make phone calls or sms
the problems began after its been UNLOCKED (sim free)
any suggestions? im willing to try anything
its been in service 4 times and still they cant figure it out...
thanks!

Ok I found the solution. Apparently I have bought a stolen phone. Check the imei if it hasn't been blacklisted!

Good day Gentlemen and Ladies,
So, as you the title states I cannot connect to mobile data (3g). (Before posting this I had done my research trying to find a solution and I cannot find any solutions) Let me tell you a little bit about my Galaxy Nexus SO originally when it was purchased it was a yakjuxw and I flashed to stock yakju-4.0.4 by this methodI can not link the video atm as I am a noob here) (I am sure that I did not skip any steps). I updated to android 4.2.1 all OTA updates and since that day I cannot connect to mobile data. I am pretty sure this is a software issue unless its a coincidence that my device fails on me at this point in time. Everything worked fine before i flashed it. I have tried going into *#*#4636#*#* and making sure my network type is correct as well as the radio band as automatic. I tried rebooting the device, I turned on mobile data and waited for +2hours for it to connect and nothing. I am sure I did not reach my mobile data limit as it is the beginning of my billing cycle. So, if anyone has any solutions would you be kind enough to give me a link or instructions on how to fix this problem. I recently also got double my data free of charge (from my provider) and I can't even use it Lol... Thanks!
1. Settings -> About Phone -> See your baseband? Does it exist or does it say Unknown?
2. Attempted to reset APN?
3. Tried your SIM card in another phone? Does data work on that phone?

Man you are a genius thank you. It was an APN problem. I think when I flashed it the server # and port # went missing or something so I added those and 30 seconds later it is all working! Thanks again my friend. And for anyone who has this in the future you can access you APN settings->more...->mobile networks->Access Point Names (and APN vary on provider)
I flashed CM10.1 on my S3 and had the same problem as others where data was intermittent. It worked for some time and after one nightly, I lost my IMEI. So I got back to stock, used the procedure with QPST and got back my IMEI. I got back to cm10.1 and unsurprisingly, I had a hard time having data. But worst off, I had a hard time having cell connection anymore, not even voice or sms. Tried AOKP without any luck. Tried different modems, not luck either. Now I went back to stock and still doesn't work. There's something that is not resetted between flash of ROM that keeps messing up my connection. I also found out that only one network provider is ever found, one is Rogers Wireless (I'm with Bell), or one is EXT. But never any other provider is ever found. And also in *#*#4636#*#* under phone info I can'T change the radio band like I can on the phone of my girlfriend.
So there it is. I'm stuck. I don't really want to buy another phone. It is a software issue for sure. But how can we solve that? Is there any way to restore the EFS to factory default? Could it be buried there? What is the ERI? Could it be that? My stock ROm says that it can't get the ERI version.
Any help is welcome.
my stock telus ERI is unavailable but i think thats normal... i have no problems
from what i understand imei and apn settings are the things to check into

IMEI and APN are good. IMEI will get me data, but I can't even get a cell connection now. No radio at all.
whats your radio band set to?
if i set mine to anything but automatic it wont find networks like yours..
*#*#4636#*#* dont work on my telus s3.
i use a different method
*#197328460# then
UMTS > Debug Screen > Phone control > Network Control > Band selection >
Automatic...
beware what you change in here as there is no return to default

Neither of the two works. *#*#4636#*#* was working with CM10/10.1 and AOKP. But not with stock. And the one you suggest after is not working either.
But I remember going ot *#*#4636#*#* before flashing stock rom and I wasn't able to selet any band. On my girlfriend's android phone (HTC) I can.
if it were me.. i would try reflashing stock again... after flashing stock do a factory reset thru recovery... seems to help for clean stock setup.
if still no network i would check that band selection is set to automatic.
maybe someone else with more experience would have a better idea.
you mentioned you changed your band selection and now cant change it back.
i dont think flashing stock changes this.
i think that might be your problem.
ifso you first need to fix phone to use *# code... i have no idea why its not working
it works on my stock telus 4.0.4 and 4.1.1
maybe bell blocks from using *#code?

Thanks for your answer. Really appreciated. I've flashed so much time that I don't see the point of doing it again. I also had, at some point, to inject my IMEI and it worked with QPST.
What I find really strange is that a stock reflash doesn't put everything back to when I bought the phone. Funny thing, after the flash, it knew what my Wi-Fi router password was! So obviously there are some part of the config that is not overwritten. Which I find odd.
I also started playing with the service menu and found a lot of settings for the radio band. No luck yet.

Your WiFi password could have been restored by google just like it puts your contact info back.
If you are doing a Odin to stock that should wipe it clean.

This thing is so strange. There's only one network that my phone can see now, and it is 302720. Bell is 302610. No other network is visible. And since I'm with Bell, then I can't connect to 302720. I'm in for emergency calls only. That's why I thought it may have to do with radio. But it seems Rogers (302720) and Bell use the same bands. A channel maybe? But this should be all automatic! It's a pretty stupid bug let me tell you!
Maybe a SIM card issue? That would be quite a coincidence that it happen exactly when I'm playing with ROMs...

Ah that's a good possibility. I didn't know it was saving passwords as well.
So if it wipes clean, how come this bug stays? There is obviously something that is not wiped and overwritten or else it would work.

When you go to info about your phone, in status you usually have your IMEI number. It'll show 0 if it's corrupted. Or sometimes it's a generic IMEI dans is used when the real one is unknown. It's 049 something I think.
Without an IMEI number you can do phone call. But you'll never have a data connection.
I assume that the U.S. cellular version of this phone is a lot like the Sprint version, so I was hoping one of you could help me.
This has also been posted on the Team US Cellular forum: http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/topic/3446-phone-cant-access-mobile-data-now-stuck-on-activating/
I had been running my phone on Liquid Smooth for a day or two now, and today I turned on and off my phone a few times because I started to run low on battery and needed the phone later. Then, when I turned it on it said I was in recovery mode and all of my widgets were off of my homescreens. Now, the phone can't connect to mobile data or wifi so I cannot make phone calls, receive text messages or go on the internet. I then proceeded to attempt to wipe the cache, dalvik cache, and factory reset the phone through Clockwork Recovery, and when the phone booted up, it still could not connect to anything and now it is stuck on "Activating..".
At this point, I just want to return my phone to normal without root and get my service back. Could anyone please help me quickly? I need to use my phone by Monday... Thanks!
Also the phone signal thing has an R next to it, if that means anything to any of you all.
The "R" stands for Roaming, to into settings - mobile data - network operators - find your carrier. Hope that helps!

You need to flash a stock/stock-based ROM and follow the activation through
Then you can flash back or unroot, most likely what happened is that you either A) restored data (sometime gives weird problems) or B) didn't wipe completely/enough

This happened to me on sprint. They couldn't fix it and I had to exchange my phone for a new one

I brought it into the store today and they didn't know what to do. They factory restored the phone again and managed to get signal (the signal bar as a triangle next to it), but whenever I try to activate the phone, it tries to activate it on Verizon. I did not flash the wrong rom, I know that. Is there any way to fix it right now or do I have to wait until tomorrow until I can take it to their tech guys at a different location? Thanks.
Sprint Galaxy Nexus
4.2.1
Not rooted
I performed a factory reset on my phone yesterday due to it bogging down and being rather slow. I never did a reset after getting the 4.2.1 update so I figured it was a good time. I woke up this morning, putzed around the house, and setup Tasker again. I laid my phone down for ten minutes while I got ready for work. Whenever I tried to wake my phone and nothing happened. I tried a few more times and the screen would not wake up. I pulled the battery, hard reset, reinserted battery and the phone wouldn't turn on. Then, I wiped the contact terminals (on the battery and the phone) and reinserted the battery and the phone booted up. However, since then I have had some major problems.
1. Power button does not always work properly. I have to press it several times to sleep or wake the phone. (Okay, not major, just inconvenient and probably unrelated to the issues below)
2. No data connection whatsoever.
3. In the data usage menu, there is no longer a data toggle switch.
4. Under the Network Mode option, LTE/CDMA produces absolutely no cell signal whatsoever. I have to switch to CDMA only. (WiFi works fine)
5. Toggling airplane mode, as some have suggested, does not cause the phone to connect to mobile data. Another factory reset did not restore mobile data. Rebooting did not restore mobile data.
6. All of these problems are true before and after factory reset. No new problems were created and nothing was exacerbated as a result of performing a factory reset.
I've been from one end of the internet to another looking for solutions to this problem and I have found that many are having a similar issue but toggling airplane mode or rebooting fixes it. Not the case for me. Most also seem to be having this problem after rooting. Again, not the case for me.
Any suggestions? I would prefer to not return the phone. Purchased from Radioshack and the 30-day warranty has expired. This is my second gnex already, as the first one's charging port broke. It took over a week to get this one from another store which graciously shipped it in to my store. There's also the issue of being broke and not really being able to afford another $30 activation fee on top of the deductible for a new phone.
Why not try reflashing the stock image and updating again to 4.2.1?

Not at all. You'd use Odin . Myself I have very spotty sprint signal in my home. Spoke to a corporate executive and they mailed me an AirRave free . Never have less then full bars 3g all around home. You should a- flash to stock using Odin following posts in sprint sextjon . b - call up and try to get an airavana.

Excellent. I will give it a shot at some point today or tomorrow and then let you know how it worked out. Thanks!
So, I restored the phone to stock. Signal is still non-existent on LTE/CDMA mode. Cannot perform Profile or PRL updates. Still no mobile data. I'm guessing hardware failure?
Also, on setup it asks for a SIM card. And at the bottom of the drop-down menu, it says "No SIM card|Sprint" or "No SIM card|No Service" depending on if I am in CDMA or LTE/CDMA.
Also, in the Status menu:
My phone number
Unknown
MIN
Unknown
PRL Version
Unknown
ICCID
Unknown
Seems a little odd to me.
Attempted fully rooting and flashing radios. No luck there either. It's also not wanting to update. Tells me my phone is up-to-date (connected via WiFi). Downloading Cyanogen now to see if it will work in the morning.
And while attempting to flash a new ROM, got the famous "can't copy anything to the device ever, under any circumstances" error.
Update: Got CM10 installed. Still "No SIM" error, no 3G, no data, no LTE. Found some more information on this No SIM error. Apparently a few others have had this same problem and in the end had to get a new phone.
Anyone know anything?
You should a- flash to stock using Odin following posts in sprint sextjon
I've been back to stock twice now. The first thing I did was flash to stock. Then I played around a bit and now I'm back to stock again.
Is there a difference between using Odin and Nexus Root Toolkit to return to stock?
Bump
Wow, one day and my thread is buried!
After battling for about a day, I got updated to JB 4.2.1, I can do profile and PRL updates again, but there is still no 3G/mobile data, and I still have zero bars on LTE/CDMA and have to use just CDMA. I am currently stock but the bootloader is unlocked, no root.
If anyone has heard any solution, please help. Also, if there's a difference between flashing to stock with Odin vs NRT, please say so.

Try fastboot flashing your LTE and CDMA radios again. As far as I know, fastboot commands do NOT require root. I had a similar issue.

Indeed, fastboot does not require root. I've flashed my radios several times now in various different ways. I even flashed different versions. I attempted again but with no luck. I have normal service when using CDMA but nothing on LTE/CDMA. Still no data, still "No SIM card" error.
Pretty sure I'll have to get it replaced. I've gone from stock JB back to stock ICS, rooted, CM10, back to stock ICS, rooted, back to stock JB unrooted, and flashed three different radios. I'm surprised I haven't managed to brick it yet.
UPDATE: Sprint is sending me a new phone, for free.
I've tried flashing different roms, modems, changing APN and mobile network settings, etc. Can't seem to get it to work. Everything else works just fine on 4.2.2, including cell and mms. Just no data.

I recently had CyanogenMod 11 installed on my phone and I noticed phone calls, messages, and WiFi worked but when I turned my Mobile Data on, It did not work even though it showed it was on. If your issue has not been resolved, I suggest you check this out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540998.

It's PlatinumTel (PTEL), which is a t-mobile mvno. I should note that i have the bootloader and the modem matched, have tried factory resets, and even downgraded to previous version (before updating bootloader to latest so i don't brick). Ptel tells me i need to update my APN, which basically was their standard msg... no help there. Thanks.

Hi, so... there are bunch of links and downloads on that page... i do have the latest bootloader and modem... can you tell me what you think i should [try to] update to make the mobile data work? BTW, at least on my phone, the mobile data icon doesn't even show. Not even 3G or whatever... thanks for your help.
RESOLVED!
Ugh. So after countless flashes, resets and wipes, turns out that PTEL needed to do a Data RESET on their end. So much misery for such a simple solution that they could have given me. If you're a PlatinumTel user, and this may apply to many other providers, please try telling them to reset their data service for you before trying anything else. Hopefully you won't go through the misery and time wasted that i have gone through.:cyclops:

All of them are stock but I personally chose upndwn4par - Full - Features : Odexed, Rooted, Knox Removed because I really didn't know what the other ones did. (PLEASE NOTE : Neither the developer or I are responsible if you brick, or mess up your phone! This also deletes everything on your phone so do backup if you want to save your important files.) When it finished downloading, I put the file on my phone's internal storage (SD card works too) then went into recovery mode using TWRP and installed the rom onto my phone, then while I was still on TWRP, I deleted the cache and data, it then reboot and then I had to set up my phone as if I had just bought it.
PTEL fix for no data connection, broken, not working

THIS NEEDS TO BE PROCLAIMED!
PTEL locked us out of voice once before, which also required a reset. That was also with a phone change so maybe a security measure? Never thought about it happening with data.
So many hours wasted.
On calling, the PTEL CSR first reset the data, then helped with a new APN. Note that even with the correct settings in an existing APN and the data connection freshly reset, the phone (SGN3) refused to connect, even after a reset. Added APNs had to be deleted, then a new one created, which then connected immediately. (Pissed and happy at once.)
Thanks, @geesedude, for this info; wished I'd found it sooner. (Have to stop assuming that if it doesn't work, must be something I'VE done.)
Glad that the information helped you. Yeah, i mean... since we mess around with our phones, we always first assume it's something we did, which really can't be blamed for thinking that way. Like you, i searched the web for a solution and it was out of desperation that i called ptel, and the CSR happened to suggest it (they were out of ideas, too), and it happened to be the solution. Not sure why they have to do this in the first place, but i am guessing that there are stricter guidelines from TMobile for the MVNOs, and they have to do some things manually. At least now i know to contact them first before spending hours searching for something that may not exist!
