Completely stock Note 2 - Best option for audio? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I have a note 2 which is on the latest official 4.3. Phone hasn't been rooted or anything as i'm a bit of a novice so haven't had a chance to mess around with all of that yet.
The phone is great and I've moved over from an Xperia Z which I just couldn't get on with. However, there is one thing the XZ excels in which the note doesn't appear to (at least out of the box anyway) and thats music.
The XZ had a media played with ClearAudio+ and it made all of my music sound absolutely amazing. I've downloaded a few apps off the store such as playerpro etc but none of them even come close to replicating the sound of the XZ.
My question is, is there an app anywhere or anything I can do to get my Note 2 to sound anything like the XZ?

Hello! I would recommend using PowerAmp. The trial version is available on play store. Unfortunately, for the full version, you must pay. But i'd say it's worth a try.

First root, you can have better sound quality than XZ. Just need to flash a small file and install one apk. Root first then...

Yeah I rooted the device yesterday, then went about flashing the Walkman zips from this site but that didnt work. I just got force closes on everything I tried to open. I then tried to flash the Acid Audio stuff and again, everything force closed on me when trying to open it. Eventually I gave up and flashed the Xperia Z Rom that is on here with a mixture of Note 2 and Note 3 improvements thrown in as well and that worked a treat so now I can finally enjoy Clear Audio + again

Viper4Android ftw! The sheer number of options to tweak the sound to your liking may seem overwhelming at first, but once you get used to it, its absolutely amazing! Works perfectly fine on any rooted stock rom. Check with your rom though, it may break the ClearAudio+ functionality.

Stuffs like one small file and one apk isn't gonna help anyone. Try answering in a more clear way next time. I am thinking what that one small file is. Hmmmmm

DSP manager works!
Root maybe needed.. When installed just turn on bass enhancement and set it to extreme, then max the EQ but drop the 2nd to rightmost treble down to 0... Omg... Its loud.. Clear.. And actually has some BASS !!
Does not work with native music player as that has its own eq.. But for any other streamed music video or game its incredible.

EDIT
I understand what you mean; sorry, I am new to Android
Just to confirm, the DSP Manager works even on the on non-rooted handsets.
just download and install bro. may need a file manager from the Android Market to find the .apk file.. Should be in the downloads folder on your sd card.
Sorry

The SGS2 has a built in installer and you just select the apk and it installs it. I am loving this phone.
Has anyone complared PlayerPro vs above suggestion?
Worked for me, made a nice change, will test it fully in the car tomorrow.
Works great, sounds meaty now!
crashes on mine everytime while navigating or listening to an audio book and a call comes in.. then in continually crashes till reboot.
think it has something to do with restarting the book or navigation..
uninstalled.
Sound better to me. Takes some of the tin out. Thanks.

Info here: http://discussions.tomtom.com/t5/TomTom-App-for-Android/Tomtom-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S3/td-p/340720
You have to buy it on a compatible device, grab the apk and put it on your S3 manually. Apparently the screen layout's not quite right and the fonts are a bit small but otherwise it's ok.
TomTom has confirmed in that thread that the version currently on Play is the version that will at some point support the S3 (by the end of the year they say) so you won't get stuck with a useless app.
I'm sticking with CoPilot for now; don't really want the faff.
Ty for the share! but honestly nothing beats Google Map.
You can use your voices aswell.... but it will replace some off the pnd languages... which I don't even use
Just replace two files already existing in the voices folder with the downloaded one's make sure your dataXX.vif corresponds to a file already in the voices backup voices before making any changes
Voices can be brought from Tomtom

But after Sygic and iGO it looks so .... minimalistic

Low Volume Issue - Solved

I solved my weak low volume using Medlez new build for Noozxoide EIZO. It works fine. See Nexus 4 Forum.
Also VLC did wonders before I installed it. So Vlc is your best bet if you are not rooted. Other players with volume gain feature like Diceplayer and Archos raise video volume but not as much as they did on my Galaxy. I couldn't hear anything in the car.
With EIZO vlc is now too loud and reaches distortion level easily.
Hope this help.

Its not perfect. I had some games crashing on me. I think I was the first to try this. Misledz is working on an official flo mod as we speak. Should be ready soon. Be careful with this. Make sure you don't try and report bugs in the n4 thread as this is NOT supported. I wouldn't even try to report bugs on whatever ROM you are on as this is not completely stable. All that being said it does seem to work for the most part and I do use it as well until the official release.

It's not crashing for me. It may be your settings. But I don't do games. works great all the way on stock. With no other mod except root and custom recovery.

Apps like this (all apps also, but especially apps like fauxsound) are well worth buying for two main reasons:
-You get updates without having to waste time on Google
-YOU SUPPORT THE AMAZING DEVELOPER(s) WHO HAS BROUGHT YOU THIS MAGIC

When you bought the tablet if they offered an option to include a sound mod like faux sound for $2. You wouldn't hesitate to add it at time of purchase. So why not spend the two bucks now. It supports a great developer too. Even if you don't use his kernel a lot of other devs use faux sound and it works on multiple devices. I have it installed on my n4 as well at no extra cost.

Faux sound doesn't work with Franco and Franco refuses to add speaker gain because...well I have my opinions about him, just leave it at that.

I bought the Faux Sound app' and it did increase the volume, but I kind of wished I would have waited. V4A works phenomenally on my 7. I've ran it in stock rooted and a couple different ROMs. It gives a great increase and the sound quality is great. Perfect fix IMO. I've only used it for increasing the speaker volume, and have not tested on headphones of Bluetooth' by it's free, and works better than any paid app I've bought. No disrespect to the dev of the Faux Sound app. It does what it says, and I'm happy to pay to support an excellent developer.

Cortex 9 with Neon. Make sure any built in or other sound modding apps are disabled, and more importantly, read up as much as you can. I've been lucky enough never brick a device , at least beyond repair (knock on wood)

Supertube and pvstar are not working do they work for you?

Hello. I recently purchased my note 3 coming from a HTC sensation one thing I noticed it that one of my favorite apps supertube would no longer work with my new note 3. When I play a video in it and press the home button the video should keep playing in the background but it isint.
So I then tried pvstar and the same issue happened when I leave the app the audio stops even tho its supposed to keep playing. I have used these apps for a while with my sensation so is it that they just don't work with the note 3?
Would you mind testing them out on your phone and see if they will still play?
Thanks

I have same issue on my s3.
On my old Galaxy Trend supertube was working fine but now i face same issue as you i hope someone knows a fix.
One easy solution is multiwindow. Then make the YouTube window really small.
i already found the solution:
use viral its much better and does the same thing.

I'm talking about system app sound mod settings for things like YouTube . Making volume for system apps louder that don't use 3rd..party players
Sent from my SM-T700 using XDA Free mobile app
I have mentioned a simple mod before. Somebody should have put it into a sticky. If you have root, simply edit the /system/etc/default_gain.conf, as explained here.
This does a healthy boost to the headphone sound, but there is not much room left to boost the speaker sound. I think for the speaker value I set the value to something like 131 or 140, because at higher values I could hear the sound distortion.

To my mind the best sound mod that includes gain control (volume increase) is Viper4Android. I wrote a how-to install V4A plus included the necessary flash files. Many people have successfully used those instructions.

I agree with 3DSammy. Viper4Android is your best option in my opinion. There's even a guide in the themes and apps section to get it working with stock Samsung player if you like that stock player.
