Hello
I have bought S4 mini a couple months ago. And after some time phone goes off suddenly. It goes off even when the battery is fully charged. I did hard reset, uninstalled all apps i have downloaded, but still phone goes off. And also there are no periods of time when it turns off. It could be after 3 days (from last turn off), or after 1 day, or 1 or 2 weeks. Please help if anyone had same issue or know how to fix it.
Or maybe there is an app which can monitor all work of the phone, and which program or function turns it off?

If you take out the battery and place it on a flat surface and try to spin it... the battery shouldn't do more than your forces velocity in rotations. If it spins like a breakdancer it's time to replace and recycle that battery cause its no good.
Now if it doesn't spin then it most likely is not your battery but maybe your power button. just my input... hope it helps
Thanks for a quick respond. The battery seems to be ok.
Will wait for more answers.

Hi, my phone is the same. 4th battery and no difference. Will swich off completely randomly. No one seems to know what the problem is or how to fix it but after suffering this for 6 months I am certain it is to do with the battery terminals. I have tried to manipulate the terminals with some success but ultimately it eventually switches off again. There is hardly any info or actual cure for this on the net but it is a real problem with these phones.

Hi
Long story short:
I removed my sum card from my galaxy nexus whilst turned on and put in my nexus s. The galaxy nexus was left in my glove box for 6/7 hours with the battery still in.
Just come to it now and its dead. Tried two chargers and nothing happens to the phone.
Any ideas people? Is there a hard reset I can or any advice? It just seems like there's nothing left in it!
Thanks for your help in advance.

Don't pull the SIM card whith your phone switched on.
Try removing the battery for a few minutes.
Maybe because you used a sum card instead of a sim card?

Seems strange to me. You should be able to pull the sim with it on (it won't like it but it won't nuke it).
How long did you have the chargers plugged in for? Were you getting the charge/battery symbol when they were plugged in?
I'd plug it in and leave it for at least half an hour. Then see if it turns on, if it doesn't come on at least try and get it in to fastboot mode. If that fails then return it.
Odd
Hmm, I didn't pull my sim card. Only change to the phone as purchased from Costco about 3 weeks ago, is substitution of extended battery for stock.
Was working last night, off charger. THis mornining wouldn't power on, and doesn't seem to want to charge. I've swapped out original battery, but nothing on that one either.
I'll give it a few more hours on charge, then am at a loss.
did you hold the power button down? sometimes you gotta hold it down real long.
Valynor - nice one that's worked!! Thank you!

The rest of you thanks for your comments.
I had tried charge for 3 hours and nothing, held all buttons down and nothing. Never had that before.
Sorted with a long battery pull as opposed to a short one! FYI
Again thanks for quick responses

Long Battery Pull Worked
I can confirm that the long battery pull worked for me also.
Unplug from USB, remove battery 5 min, put it back together and voila.
Strange, though.
Addition: After going back into recharging state, the battery was shown as >40%, so not sure this was about a discharged battery. Maybe some other state the phone got into only solved by long battery pull.
sounds like it's just a battery problem
get a new battery and it should be back to normal
that battery is as good as dead, never let a battery drain to Zero juice, it kills them completely, it happened to me several times, it wont charge back

Thank you so much for the advice! Of all of the 5 the different android phones that I've owned, I had never encountered this issue until tonight. So, I was really starting to freak out until I tried your suggestion, which worked. You rock sir!

Glad it helped.
The reason for the "long" battery pull is simply that devices like smartphones are never 100% "off", even when they are "off" .. there is still some circuitry alive that checks for button presses etc. Those use very very little power so it takes a while to drain this even with the battery removed. Only after that happens the device is truly "hard reset".
was going to suggest temperature.
cold kills phones. if it's winter and it gets cold where you are, dont leave any electronics in your car if its outside overnight. many a gadget has died a cold frozen death by outdoor parking.
Gnex got all pissy at you because you cheated with its ugly older sister.
Thanks
Today i have had the same problem.
My gnexus is dead, and is reborn only after to have removed battery and sim card for 10 minutes.
My battery was 24%.
My gnexus had same problem too, two times in two weeks, fixed removing battery for 1 minute. Booth times it was a little hotter than normal, so I think that cpu is still running when this happens. Last time battery was 84%. I'm using Paranoid 3.00, Android 4.2.1

Has anyone else had this issue?I woke up this morning and my captivate glide was acting weird after i unplugged it from my usb.it doesnt seem to recognize when im holding or dragging something.sometimes i can click to open things but when i try to remove something from the home screen it drops it back before i can drag it to the trash can.now the funny thing is when i put it on a charger( usb or wall charger) the touch response is fine soon as i unplug it it gets finicky again.
Any input is appreciated.I will buy another battery and try that before I decide to replace the digitizer.but it was working perfectly fine till this morning.
Reboot didn't fix it? Usually the opposite of what your having happens (USB cable not being properly grounded).
Nope,reboot didn't,factory reset didn't.

I tried but nothing in the play store for screen calibration. On another note, i noticed the lower the battery gets the worse the sensitivity is.ie charging it works perfect, unplugged at 100% it works perfect but as the battery drains i can barely drag the notifications bar or an icon on the home screens.at about 50% i can click things but not drag them, and now its at 24% and working perfect.I left it on all day while at work with wifi and facebook plus other things running.Honestly i dont get it.And I've been repairing phones for a few years now.

Try: drain the battery to 50% or so, then pull the battery out and set aside for five minutes or so. Then put it all back together and start it back up. Do not plug it in until it's fully booted and you've used your phone for a while, just in case.
I have tried about everything, guess I'll buy a new battery.and if it doesnt help I will sell it.

To update it was a screen malfunction and it was still under warranty , so Samsung fixed it at no charge

Hello Everyone,
I am a noob on XDA, Please correct me if i have posted in the wrong forum. I bought a new nexus 7 16gb, for some reason when the battery is around 25-30% the tablet turns off itself. Its not shutdown its like pulling the battery of a phone thats on. The only way to start it is by connecting the charger.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I am on the stock rom NOT rooted
Thanks

Have you charged the device to 100% yet? I would do that, leave it charging for an hour after it shows 100% then use it till it dies. Rinse and repeat.

Yes I have charged it 100% multiple times, The only difference is i use a sammy charger that outputs 0.7 amps once in a while. I dont suspect the charging thing to do this.
Are you getting normal use out of a charge? How much screen time in one charge?

Like Highfigh suggested check how long you can run on a full charge. If you get some good hours in then maybe the battery % is not reporting back properly. A reset/restore could possible resolve that issue.
I believe I am getting pretty good charge. I will try once again, I was thinking this might be something with stock rom and hence I posted it online. Thanks every one for the help

exactly the same story here. in my case it's not so easy to turn it on. it would seem like the device is completely discharged, even if it just showed some 40 % battery left. i have to wait several hours to even try to bring it back to recovery mode. very long press does nothing. it happened couple of times already. very annoying with such seemingly superb tablet. i'm not living in the us of a, so no quick replacement for me
That's bad I can turn on mine in a few minutes. Again mine happens very rarely. I also get an excellent battery life. How long does yours go on a charge.
I would also like to know if there is any kind of Logs that we can look at. It's getting irritating, did you try rooting your device to see if that might fix the problem.

I got the same problem recently, I think it was after the last update on the firmware. Everytime the battery reach around 35% it just went off.
Hello Friends,
I have a year Xperia Ion phone. Recently I have got a problem with the battery of this phone.
A week back the battery status was never going below 100% but will shut off after certain amount of usage. I did not bother as I was able to use the phone normally but only the battery status was a problem. However the problem got more serious. Here is what happened and what I tried:
- A day back phone got switched off and the battery was never going above 1% upon restart, even when it was on charging
- I tried hard restart (holding volume up button + power button). After this it was showing increase in percentage when plugged in for charge and reached 100%. I thought the problem is resolved but not.
- Everytime I unplug phone from charging, battery drops down to 1% immediately and shuts off
- I did service test (by dialing some long numbers) of the phone and it says battery is good and no need to replace it. I assumed there is not hardware issue.
- I had no otherway but to try out battery calibration after rooting- I rooted my device, used 'Battery calibration' app. Charged up till it says 100% and did the calibration. It showed calibration success. I unplugged it from the charger again just to find that the same issue again.
I really do not know what to try now. My phone is just out of warranty (I bought this in another country during a visit). I am ready take paid service if that would solve, but I really appreciate a promising solution or suggestion for this issue.
This phone means a lot for some reason. Thanks in advance for your helpful thoughts!
Note: I found a similar thread where they talked about replacing battery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450884 I am not sure if this is the same case as that of mine. If so how to replace the built-in battery for Ion.

This issue is somehow weird. When I do something with my phone for a while, my phone just turns off suddenly. It doesn't really power down, it is just off. Then I remove the battery and put it back, turn on the phone. Sometimes it boots successfully, sometimes it doesn't. The phone is bootable and works reliably when it is plugged in. I've tried flashing some ROMs but the issue still occurs. I don't know whether there is something wrong with battery or mainboard. I accidentally increased voltage for my Gnex via Trickster mod some days ago. I think this is the reason causing this problem.
Could you please give me some advice? Thanks.
Try to use another battery. I had the exact same problem for a while after the phone started to heat around the camera part. Try to get an app that says ur cpu temperature. If it shuts down when you do more serious thing on it like watching youtube or browsing the internet, then its 100% a battery problem.
