[Q] PLEASE, Need urgent help unroot my Att Galaxy Note 2 Please! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi guys, I have had my Galaxy note 2 I317 for only 7 weeks now with the 4.3 update. A couple days after I had it, I rooted the phone. However, 2 weeks ago, the sim card reader stopped working. I contacted samsung since I was still under warranty and they told me to send the phone so they can fix now. Now while trying to unroot it, I flashed it using the wrong stock firmware. I used 4.1 instead of 4.3 firmware. Now the phone is stuck to the Samsung logo and I am so depressed. I need help finding the 4.3 stock firmware and telling me exactly what to do in order to unroot the phone, reset the binary count to zero, so that i can be able to send the phone to Samsung to be fixed.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kobeamox

Were you on 4.3 when you rooted the phone? If so did you trip Knox? You may not be able to get a warranty repair if you did.
However you may not need one. Have you tried just getting a new SIM card from your carrier? It might just be a bad SIM.
How did you come to the conclusion that the reader was broken?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app

If your stuck in Samsung logo try flashing 4.3param.tz using Odin.
And most likely you tripped knox.
So you lost warranty.

Thanks for your quick reply. I was indeed on 4.3 when I rooted the phone. ABout knox, I may have done it without knowing. how was I supposed to trip knox? I hope I did not. Regarding the sim card, the phone definitely has a problem: we have tested several sim cards from different companies in it, but it does not work. before that, I even went to my company, changed my sim card. That new one worked in my friends phone but wouldnt work in mine. the first day it had just a bit of signal then 2 days later, no signals at all. Please let me know about how I was supposed to trip knox, so that I see if I did it or not
Thanks

Check to see if you have a baseband or IMEI in your about phone status under your phone settings. Se screen shots for location.
If these are still full and not listed as unknown then it might be That you need to set your SE Linux to permissive.

Everything you need to do is here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447
Next time, all you had to do was open SuperSU app and do a Full unroot from there, and run triangle away to reset counters.
Here's the instructions on Page 2 on the Dev thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992303
If you do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447, all you have to do is the Triangle Away to get counters reset.
Since you have rooted, and IF you were on the FULL Stock MK6 ATT ROM, you have tripped Knox. You will see that when you run Triangle Away or if you go into Download Mode.
Entering download mode is very simple. First you will need to turn off your device. Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Triangle Away will not reset Knox Warranty Void counter.

What are you trying to flash ?? I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_ATT.zip
When it fails, what does it say it's failing on ?

The first step finally worked, you're the best, thank you. I am about to start the next step, but since I have to reset the binary count to 0 using Triangle away, at what specific step should I install Triangle away? and how should it happen? I dont think it is precised in the next 2 steps. Thank you and I will be online waiting for your answer in order to get that done tonight.

You do not need Triangle Away to complete any of the other steps. The upgrade to i317UCAMH3 does not do any checks.
You should be booted into the stock ROM 4.1.1.
These are your next steps
SECTION 2: OTA to MH3
You are now booted into the original stock 4.1.1 Note II ROM, i317UCALJ2.
You do not need to set anything up except your wireless connection to download the 302 MB OTA update. Cancel all setups and make a Wifi Connection. (connect to a wireless connection to not use Phone Data)
After you have made a Wifi connection:
Go to Settings> About Device> Software Update
If you have setup account info for anything that's fine.... Continue on.
It should come up and tell you an update is available.
[If it says update not available, go to Settings Date/Time and take auto sync off. Advance the date one day and try again]
Complete the steps in the Update Windows (Simply by clicking NEXT or CONTINUE)
* You have flashed using ODIN to the original stock 4.1.1 Note II ROM, i317UCALJ2.
* You have now OTA’d to i317UCAMH3, which is the required baseline to OTA to 4.3.
After the reboot of the 302 MB OTA install, your phone will hang on the Samsung GALAXY Note II screen.
There are some unique steps that need to be done to get the install to complete successfully for the i317UCAMH3 OTA.
-First step is:
- Download 4.3param_tz.zip from http://d-h.st/OYC
- Extract the .zip file to get to 4.3param_tz.tar.
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode.
Open ODIN and place the 4.3param_tz.tar file in PDA and flash.
This .tar DOES NOT contain ANY 4.3 bootloader. If you flash a .tar file that has a sboot.bin in it. It will fail. That is because the current OTA 4.3 bootloader is write protected, as of 1/19/2014 (when I wrote this)
Your phone will reboot and it will redo the OTA install and update again. Not the download portion, but the after download and reboot portion. Let it finish it 100 %.
- Pull phone’s battery and go into Download mode once again.
- Second step is:
You will need to download TWRP 2.6.3.1 and flash it in ODIN.
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/t0lt...lteatt.img.tar
This is necessary for an openrecovery script to run that is stored in the /cache directory from the update.
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode.
- Open ODIN, put openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar in PDA slot. Click Start and let the phone reset.
- Your phone will reboot in TWRP. If not, pull battery and enter recovery mode boot into TWRP recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER). The script will run by itself.

Thank you. I tried so many times but there is no update available. what can i do? I try so bad by turning the auto synch off and going one day up, but there is no update still. I even try 2 or 3 days up, still no update. Same thg even happens when i turn the dates backward. Help please genius.

Ahhh gotcha, I forgot.
You can run the triangle away after everything is back up and running.
No need for paypal for me. Just pick your favorite charity and donate.
It's 9:40 PM in California. I'll still checking in.

Unroot SGH-T999v/Wind Mobile/Videotron Canada

I made a rash decision of rooting my phone on the first day I got it using this method from the galaxys3root website.
I've already searched this forum on my topic, but most of them don't exactly answer my question/s on Unrooting.
I'd appreciate if someone helped me out, b/c I really need my phone in the original condition.
I have the Baseband Version: T999VVLLE6 that's rooted, and I downloaded the stock 4.0.4 T999VVLLE6 from Samsung Updates.
I was planning on simply flashing the stock rom using the pc version of ODIN ------- Is there anything else I should be aware of?
Do I need to remove Super User before I flash the phone with the original ROM?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I used the triangle away app to reset my counter to 0 and it changed from Device Status: modified to Device Status: scanning and back to Device Status: Modified. Should I reset it again?
PPS: Please excuse any redundancy or any n00b comments I've made.
You should be good to go. Odin will wipe out root.
Device status is nothing to worry bout. It should go back to normal once you odin that fw.

Ok I did it the flash with the stcok 4.0.4 I downloaded from Samsung Updates. It said "PASSED" on ODIN. Oddly enough I didn't lose any of my apps/data and when I go to options it still says Device Status: Modified. Is this normal? Did I flash it back to stock?
Thanks in advance!

So, you want to unroot your T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 completely back to stock? Well, I know a lot of you requested this so here’s how to do it easily using ODIN.
Step 1. First, I suggest you to reset the ODIN binary counter by using TriangleAway app. At the time of this blog post, TriangleAway app does not support T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 but by the time you read this it might be supported so go ahead and download the TriangleAway app apk, install, and see if it works. (You can download it here on XDA, you will have to register for a username, it’s free.)
Step 2. Next, we are going to use ODIN to flash an official stock ROM for SGH-T999. This process won’t increase your binary counter so if you’ve used TriangleAway app to reset the counter, you should be all good to go. Also you can use Mobile ODIN too if you don’t have a Windows computer (but again, Mobile ODIN is not supported at the time of this writing but probably will be by the time you read this).
Hold down Volume Down, Center Home, and Power buttons together for about 10 seconds until your SGH-T999 resets.
Step 3. When your phone resets (screen will go blank), let go of the Power button but keep holding down Volume Down and Center Home buttons.
Step 4. Once you see warning screen, hit Volume Up key to enter ODIN Download mode.
Step 5. Connect a microUSB cable from your SGH-T999 to your computer.
Step 6. Download Odin and Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 stock ROM and unzip both files, you should find two folders like shown below.
Download ODIN
Download Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 Stock ROM
Step 7. Double-click on odin3 v1.85.exe to launch ODIN program. You should see a yellow highlighted box with a random number. If you don’t, you don’t have drivers installed. Simply download and install Samsung Kies. After installing Kies, don’t run Kies but simply unplug your phone and plug it back it, you should see yellow highlighted box now.
Step 8. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING but click on “PDA” and choose the file “T999UVALEM_T999TMBALEM_T999UVALEM_HOME.tar.md5″. Then hit “Start” to start the unrooting process.
Step 9. This process should take around 10-15 minutes. Don’t use any other programs on your computer during this process as it can interfere.
Step 10. When it’s done, your phone should reboot and you should find your T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 completely back to stock ICS ROM with all of your settings and apps in tact.
Step 11. If for some reason you are getting a lot of FCs (probably if coming from custom ROM), bootloops, or you just want to reset your phone completely to return for warranty you can do a factory reset. Otherwise you can stop at Step 10.
Hold down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power buttons together for about 10 seconds until your phone resets.
Step 12. When your phone resets (screen goes blank), let go of the Power button but keep holding down Volume Up and Center Home button together.
Step 13. Once in stock Android recovery, choose “wipe data/factory reset” and choose “yes”. Then reboot.
Step 14. Once rebooted your phone should be completely back to stock ROM and also just like the day you got the phone.
Remember, you still have to backup all of your personal photos, videos, and other files in your internal storage/microSD card and erase them if you are going to return your phone for warranty.

I also had this 80MB update pending (didn't work with the rooted ROM) that I successfully updated, but I don't know if it's Jelly Bean and it keeps saying that the version is 4.0.4....wouldn't it be something else now that I've updated it?
Thanks
msoren8 provided a perfect link. Followed the procedure and the phone is in Normal status and also used Triangle away option before flushing it to the Samsung stock rom, This step was really important for me since it eliminated Custom Binary download: Yes (1 count) message, just to be safe once i sent the phone though warranty process. Everything went fine and with no glitches.
Thx for the help.

I was following that guide in the first place . Resetting the phone worked like a charm, fixed everything. So the steps were, flash stock ROM via PC Odin, then wipe phone because it still had apps like super user (which wouldn't work anymore after flashing) and triangle away. Now even Device Status is "Normal".
PS: as a side note I just got a ~80 mb update which changed my version from T999VVLLE6 to T999VLLH2 but the Android Version is still 4.0.4, anyone know if that's jelly bean? I have the ability to change my brightness from the drop-down menu now and the keyboard looks slightly different...
thanks

[Q] Galaxy Note 2 i317 Won’t Boot After Update

Issue
1. Phone won’t boot beyond the Samsung Logo.
2. It won’t boot into recovery (download mode works).
3. Can flash rom using Odin but phone still won't boot.
Type of Phone
Type: AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Model: i317
Ownership: Bought in Nov 2012 brand new. Warranty is up but it is insured through AT&T.
History: Rooted and then un-rooted and returned to stock in January 2014.
Actions leading up to Issue
Updated to Samsung’s newest firmware Android 4.3 but didn’t like it. I rooted my phone and tried a custom rom but wasn’t happy. Un-rooted by flashing original stock rom via Odin 3.07. Worked great and I was back in business. But then the phone went through an update and never booted back up.
Detail
I’ve rooted all my other phones but never felt the need to root this one until I updated to Samsung’s new Android 4.3. I wasn’t happy with the decreased battery life and poor performance. So I used the method at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004650 to root my phone using “root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.tar.md5” with Odin 3.07 and it worked. I then tried a custom Cyanogen Mod rom but it still left something to be desired.
After more research I flashed the original stock rom “KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5” via Odin 3.07 and my phone worked beautifully, at least for a day. Then I started getting the AT&T update window for Android 4.3 and the only way to get rid of it was to pull my battery. It was happening so much that I couldn’t even make a phone call. Out of pure frustration I decided to accept the update.
After the update installed it rebooted and never made it past the Samsung logo. So I figured I would just go into recovery and perform a factory reset as well as wipe the cache. The problem here is that it won’t boot into recovery. Only download mode works. I’m also seeing a red LED which I’ve read is a sign of SDS.
I’ve tried re-flashing the original stock rom again. Every time I do I get the green “Pass” display but my phone still won’t boot. The binary count is now at 21 since I’ve tried flashing so many times. I’ve been working on this and researching for 3 weeks. I’ve never had an issue that I couldn’t resolve when it comes to any of my past phones but this is beyond my skill or understanding. I also tried Samsung keys but it says my device is not supported.
Short of digging a hole in my back yard and burying it, is there anything I can do to fix this?
(Note) My wife has the same phone and also didn’t like the update so I flashed the same original stock rom to her phone via Odin and it has been working just fine. Only difference is I never rooted hers. I should have gone that route with mine.
Have you tried flashing, via Odin, just a custom recovery?
If that works, you may be able to follow this guide, starting at post #2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447
If that doesn't work, it is possible you have an emmc issue.... Your symptoms are similar to what others have reported here recently. You might be able to get a repair covered if you can get them to look past the custom counter ... You are running stock firmware... Maybe kies tripped the counter... Stranger things have happened...

Thanks I'll give it a try. I had thought about it but was afraid to mess things up even more. Is there one that you would recommend?

Here's the link to TWRP (you want the Odin link toward the bottom):
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/124
Here's the direct link to the latest philz cwm (you want the md5 file):
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/t0lteatt
I prefer philz, but you will likely need TWRP to follow the dicksteele guide. You should also track down a CWM flashable recovery package for MH3 recovery to flash back should you need to return the phone for repairs. You can get this by following the i317 link in my sig.
If flashing this in Odin doesn't work that would tend to support the emmc fail scenario. (i.e. you flash it, Odin behaves as if it flashed ok, you power off, attempt to boot recovery with home-VolUp-power and it still doesn't boot). If it does boot recovery, you can try the guide as I mentioned before. Good luck!

I tried each of those just now and they both flashed fine however there is no change. I guess before I break out the shovel I'll try to see if AT&T will fix it since I do pay for the insurance. Thanks for the help that was good stuff. I wish it could have worked.

You flashed LJ2 Stock ROM from ODIN?
And you are back to the Samsung Logo that flashing/pulsing blue???
If so .....
Pull the battery and let the phone sit for a few seconds, pop the battery in and boot into stock recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER) and do a FACTORY RESET then reboot.
I had to do the same thing an hour ago....

I can't believed it worked. Flashed this and suddenly I have recovery. Then I re-flashed the original stock rom, did a reset and wiped the cache and I'm back up and running. Brilliant I say. Genius! Thank you for the great post and thanks everyone for your help. Seems like there should be a like button or something so that you get credit but I don't see one. This was my first time ever posting on any forum so I'm a little ignorant.

OUTSTANDING !!!
Glad you're back among the living.
This will get you back to 4.1.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49616718&postcount=2
EDIT:
I just did this and it worked perfectly .....
I'm actually doing that step right now also. I flashed back to stock testing the ATT update server.
EDIT #2:
At this step when the phone reboots the script will run. When it completes you want to boot to system. The next prompt will be do you want to install ROOT. If you do the swipe it will install ROOT, there is a DO NOT INSTALL button on the middle of the screen. Just a heads up, don't know if you are turning your phone back in or not now.
The script will run by itself.
sgh-i317 EFS seems like its gone
could anybody help me out with my note 2. ive tried just about everything i can think of. im getting pretty desperate. i can get everything to work fine (recovery, download mode,) but something is keeping it from booting up to the main screen, it will just hand at the boot animation, or the att logo. in twrp it tells me failed to mount efs. ive looked around in the file folders and its like it got wiped out? im not sure how though. could that be why its not booting up?
any ideas??

Thanks for the recommendation but I've previously tried the method, but my phone always failed to download (even when it wasnt rooted) would u have any other way of solving it without having to use odin. . . my phone is currently stuck in recovery mode so any help trying to get out of it would be helpful. .thank you for your time helping me solve my issue
Put the correct ROM on your external sd card with a PC adaptor. Install the card, boot into recovery, wipe system and data, then install the correct ROM. Boot, let rhe phone settle in for a few minutes, connect to wifi, or check if the correct ROM has the at&t APN settings.

Ranger is correct, try doing what he suggested.
But not really understanding what you have tried from your post.....
Which method, and what does fail to download?
Do you mean fail to get into download mode, and you only can get into recovery?
Are you doing this to get to download mode?
Put your Note 2 in Download Mode
-First you will need to turn off your device.
-Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button.
-Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up.
-Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Obviously you want to press the volume up. Now you are ready to ODIN flash.

i would have tried ODIN for this situation but everytime i do. It says "FAILED" how would you suggest i fix this so that my phone can use ODIN. I was going from cyanogenMod to a custom ROM, but i assume i didnt flash the old ROM and now i kinda stuck in a bootloop like it'll show the samsung intro then show the customROM emblem stays there. I've left it in that state for a whole night and it didnt change (still showing the custom ROM emblem) the only thing i can do is enter TWRP v2.6.3.1 and access my external SD.

I was using the PDA from sammobile.com, and now my phone is saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Also I tried the original firmware that used repeatedly, would that hurt the system. Would there be any firmwares suggested to use.

It's 12:30 my time, gotta get up for work at 6....
If you follow that guide line by line, step by step it will work....
You can even start over from scratch right now if you need to.

Of course I don't expect that you'll be seeing this now, but please know i do appreciate the help!
I started from scratch. But the thing is, I have been following this step by step.
I CANNOT do a factory reset.
Completed Section 1: Flashing LJ2 4.1.1 via ODIN - until Step 5 and 6.
*** Upon reboot the phone will hang. This is because of left over 4.3 file(s) not letting the system boot.
Pull the battery and let the phone sit for a few seconds, pop the battery in and boot into stock recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER) and do a FACTORY RESET then reboot.
When it hangs on the Pulsing Blue Samsung logo, do this step. (expect to do this)
Odin showed a green PASS! but it is still stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note II logo. I have followed every step and every file to the letter that you recommended... I am unsure what to do now. I left it just in case it went to boot, but it's been 15 - 20 mins already... I'm happy to just get i back to 4.1 even "(

So after ODIN finishes... It reboots. You pull the battery and do the VOL UP HOME POWER combo, and it does not bring up stock recovery ?

It does not. It gets stuck in Samsung Galaxy Note II logo. I know how to do Download mode and recovery mode. That's my problem. There is NO recovery mode anymore. I followed everything to the letter. If I am able to get to recovery mode, I will do a wipe and factory reset everything then problem solved... however this became a problem after the accidental update so I don't know what to do anymore. </3

No worries... I've been in that spot many many times.... Luckily for all of us @fuzio1963 was brave enough to test out flashing the param/tz combo. Saved alot of people...
Thanks for the offer of goodies... I'm lucky at this point of my life to have all I need.
But if you'd like to donate something, here's my pick.

I completed all the steps and now running 4.3! My device is updating however, is it safe to install this after all I've done?
I figured I might as well recompile everything you outlined offline in case I brick mine again...
I'll give that a look! I was asking for amazon because I may still have some credit on there, but your suggestion looks better Thank you for everything you've done!

Well, after completing everything and updating my apps, the ATT Device Manager is still rearing its ugly head. It did so again now, and when it rebooted it loaded TWRP, it went into recovery mode automatically without me pressing any buttons.
I am trying to find a way to remove it now, but I would further encroach upon your good graces, if you please, is the Device Manager/ATT update safe to let be?
Interesting it's keeping on checking for updates.
You can try going to applications, scroll pages over to All. Scroll down to ATT software update, press it and clear cache
Something is making is making it think is needs to keep checking.
I use TITANIUM Backup to freeze it. Going to need it backup if you want 4.4 update
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app

Yeah, I thought it would be done. I wiped cache from it as you advised. So I guess I'll have to pay for Titanium Backup. Sigh. Some things must be unavoidable. Nevertheless, I cannot thank you enough. It got my baby working again!

Question about tmobile G95TUVU3DOI1

Hi, I'm kinda new to rooting android phone.I just got a galaxy s6 edge from tmobile and I would lIke to root the phone. Searching around the forum but still doesn't ubderstand how's it work. So I got a galaxy s6 edge, baseband version G95TUVU3DOI1, come with 5.1.1 SMG 925T. Question is if I'm root the phone will i able to restore back to stock firmware, will tmobile able to find out if I rooted or not? Because I'm in Jump! Program and plan to switch new phone next year. And its there any easy step by step guide to root the phone. I don't really care about Samsung pay, would like to have fingerprint sensor if possible. Thank you
Before you do anything, understand that you WILL TRIP KNOX AND BREAK SAMSUNG PAY. Also, it is your choice to modify your device and this process seems to work differently for differnt people, so if anything happens, it's on you. However, there are several threads here that can help you if anything goes wrong
Okay, make a backup of all your stuff on SmartSwitch
You're going to want to download ODIN 3.10.7 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
Then you're going to want to download UniKernel v8 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...d-development/kernel-stockmod-kernel-t3100395
Open ODIN on your computer and don't touch anything yet
Then you're going to put your phone into download mode by turning it off, then holding POWER+VOL DOWN+HOME until a blue screen appears.
Press VOL UP to enter download mode and connect your phone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone
Wait for the little box at the top left to turn blue
On ODIN, click the AP button and locate the UniKernel v8 file that you downloaded before
Once you've found it, double click it to fill in the AP field with the file
Click START and do not touch anything until it's done.
Your phone will restart and once it comes back up, you'll be rooted. It can take several minutes for it to fully boot, so give it time.
Now, this is optional, but if you want a custom recovery to flash custom ROMS, download TWRP onto your computer from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...recovery-twrp2-8-6-0-g925t-5-1-1-of6-t3143002
Flash that file through ODIN using the same process as you used to flash UniKernel.
This recovery will let flash custom ROMs. I recommend XstreStoLite as it is very good on battery life, but you will not be able to use WiFi calling or VOLTE. You can download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-3-t3119968
Let me know how it goes.
Can I unroot in the future if I want to go back to stock?

Yes. You'll just have to download the latest firmware from here or Sammobile.com and flash it using ODIN
Thank you. One last question, any chance using Odin will brick the device?

Yes. There is a small chance, but the method I described is the exact same method I used on my device and I've had no issues. Even if you do, there is almost a 0% chance of a hard brick unless you touch something you're not supposed to touch, and if you do soft brick, there are a few threads here that should be able to help. More than likely flashing stock firmware will fix any problems you have.
thanks akw for the run through, I've been away from android for 4 months and ran back to it. just got this phone and wanna quickly root it.

Where are you getting the firmware from? What version of ODIN are you using? What port are you using in ODIN to flash the firmware?
There is a Mega download of the DOI1 firmware somewhere around here. I recommend downloading that and flashing using the AP port in ODIN 3.10.7, using the cable that came with your phone. This is the exact method I used to return to stock with no issues.
