[Q] Locking an unlocked Sprint S3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I bought a Galaxy S3 from Gazelle on eBay. Though it was listed as unrooted, it turned out to be. Because of this, Sprint could add it to their network, but the phone wouldn't go through hands free activation. We tried entering the MSL/SPC code they had on file, however the phone would not respond to it. I unrooted the phone, and installed the stock 4.3 rom. Though, it would still not take the MSL/SPC code. This led me to believe the phone is unlocked, which turned out to be correct. The SPC is 000000, and when a call is made, it forwards to Verizon's customer service.
This being said, am I correct is needing to set the SPC back to the correct one? Also, when entering ##000000# I added my phone number as the MDN, and the MSID from my previous phone as the MSID. However, the MSID did not take. It's still saying 0000009088.
I've been at this for 13 hours now, and have ran out of ideas.
DFS CDMA Tool results in an error "GET SEC_CODE CPS_ERROR BAD_SPC_MODE" when trying to change the SPC code.
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks!!!!

to be clear you do not have to "lock" your phone for a carrier to use it on any network its just them being pricks if they suggest it as they are trying to sell you something. and i would call verizon to release the phone from their system as thats probably whats causing your issue as it isnt allowing it to move off network thus preventing sprint to put it in to their system and allowing you to acctivate it. otherwise it sounds as if youve done everything else that i would suggest.

also i may be asking a dumb question but is this a verizon version of the s3?

Gotcha, well I'll give that a try then. And no, it's the sprint version.

Well, I just got off the phone with Verizon, they asked for the HEX of the IMEI, I read the 'HEX' on the sticker on the back of the phone to them, however, they said they could not find that device ever being on any Verizon account. This came a little odd to me though. When I view the 'IMEI' in the about menu on the phone, it shows as all zeros.
EDIT: I just noticed something as I was checking what the IMEI says.. MEID in the about menu, is different than what it is on the sticker!

[q] boost on evo help

So, I just set up my Evo to work on boost. Everything works fine(including MMS) but the internet won't connect. I've searched the forums but I'm not sure if any of the answers are specific to my problems and I just want to be safe. Could someone please help me to fix this problem. I would very much appreciate it.
Also, will this stick throughout flashing different ROMS, sbf flashes, etc?
EDIT: I bought the phone already flashed, just set up my account today

Did you put in the HA password for profile 0 and the AAA password for profile 1?
something you can try, i had to do it myself. Restore to factory, dont let the handfree go thru until after you have put in all your info. reinput your info in service programming and then add your HA and AAA passwords. after it resets let the hands free do its thing. you can also try updating the profile... if your passwords are correct you should be good from there.
I apologize, what I actually meant to say was that I bought this phone already on boost. I just payed the bill for the first time today. I am not an android-modding noon but I have no idea what you mean HA & AAA are unfamiliar to me

Did the internet ever work? you can try and do a profile update.
settings-system updates-update profile... this may or maynot work. since you bought the phone pre flashed the only way to get the ha and aaa would be to have the donor phone, contact the seller in hopes they will give it to you or get boost to reset it.
---------- Post added at 01:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:40 AM ----------
i think i read somewhere that boost can do a reset on the phone and it will cause the internet to provision. also it may take upto 48 hours to provission.
By chance do you have another boost mobile cdma phone? if you do you can put that on your boost account, wait about 10-15 mins then put the evo back on, that should cause it to provission.
I bought it from craigslist, so I'm not sure if it worked or not. I also do not have another boost phone. How would I get boost to reset it?
you can call boost and tell them that the internet isnt working, tell them that its a incognito or whatever phone is listed on the account. they will reset it and hopefully it will provision. Its sounds to me like the internet has either not provisioned yet or the passwords are wrong. did you try the update profile trick?
as far as having another boost phone... you can search on here or google and should be able to find a meid you can use just to do the switch with.
Also you can do the meid swap on boosts website, that way they dont try to charge you for activating a phone that has been activated before.
I'm not sure if it matters, but
when I view my signal strength, it's EVDO rev A and about -81 dbm
I read what you wrote on how to do it above. Do i do a factory data reset or something like sbf flashing? And I'm lost from there.

ok try this and tell me what you see under evdo engineering... ##debug#
scroll all the way down til you see an/aaa authentication.
if it says 1 = authenticated, then your passwords are good the phone just needs to provission.
---------- Post added at 02:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 AM ----------
if it is authenticated, i would search for a boost meid i could use to swap in for a few mins, then swap it back to the evo. once you switch back to the evo, it should provision then.

I tried this in the dialer ##23284# but nothing happened, the numbers just disappeared. I'm assuming it's supposed to be something similar to when I enter ##3282#\
Also, my attempts at a profile update failed. It didn't go through
only way i would factroy reset without having access to the donor is if i wrote down all the info needed from the evo. since its pretty much already set up you can open qpst service programming and copy everything from the first tab to the the roaming tab. thats the info you will need to put in to restore the phone back to the way it is now. also if you grab nv items 1192 1194 465 466 they contain your ha and aaa passwords. or you can open qxdm and input this code
Requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof 0 and Requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof 1

I am very sorry about all these questions(never dealt with a flashed phone before) but
-how do I get to qpst service programming?
-"nv items 1192 1194 465 466" where would I get these?
-lastly what is qxdm and how do I get into it.
I know some of the basics of code from using Linux and such so that last part doesn't sound too difficult
I just saw your post on the ##debug#, noob mistake. but, it is showing the AN/AAA as authenticated
thats good news.... search on here, howard forums, google.... you need a meid that you can use for a few mins. just long enough for the system to reset. if you can get a meid for a boost cdma phone, goto boostmobile.com swap in the borrowed meid, then swap the evo back in after a few mins. it should provision on its own. or you can call boost and tell them you need them to reset your internet because its not working. it still may take upto 48 hours to provision but it usually doesnt take that long, at least for me it didnt.

qpst and qxdm are both programs... along with cdma tools you can use them to do whatever you need to your phone including bricking it so be careful what you change when using those programs.

Oh okay, I've had 3 Motorola droids, so I'm used to using RSD Lite and the command prompt to flash and push files. Thanks for the info. I'll try calling boost first, seeing as I have to leave in a few. I'll update the thread to let you know. And I really do appreciate all of your help. People like you make this forum easier to adjust to.
No problem... Good luck.... Im just paying it forward...
You'll never guess what happened. Turns out it just took a while to kick in, I didnt have to do anything. Well at least other people can use this thread
yeah sometimes it takes the system a few mins to catch up to all the phones being activated. Im glad to hear all is well, Welcome to having a fully working evo4g on boost ;-)... In the future if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will tell you what I know, and if I dont know I will help you find the answer.
Cool, thanks
[UPDATE]
So, my I was messing around on my phone and wanted to see what happened if I attempted to use the 4G Sense widget. when i pushed it, a sprint website came up(not sure what that means) but when I turned 4G off, my internet stopped working again. i called boost to get it provisioned, but they just told me to call back on a boost handset but I don't have one. So then I viewed my boost account, and when at the upgrade handset page, I noticed that it has my phone MEID as that of an Incognito and the model as well. When I put in the MEID to my Evo, I got the notification that the MEID/ESN could not be used with Boost Mobile.
I'm not sure if the guy I bought my Evo from from changed the actual MEID, if he did then how could boost tell it wasn't a boost phone, or is that was the MEID of the donor phone used?
Either way, I need help on getting my internet provisioned and back working again. So if someone could help me out that would be great, because I'm stumped

[Q] Flashing evo to boost wont activate no phone #

Hello everyone.
I am a noob so please be gentle Ok here goes. I believe i have pretty much got my phone flashed. Meid and esn all took spc also took, By took I mean the Evo has the info from my donor now. so on the last step where I reboot it said it should do a hands free update, but when it tries it keeps saying unable to connect to network. So I tried just for the heck of it to dial 611, and see if I could get boost care. All I got was the same message I got before I began the flash. I assume it is a sprint error. something about error code 16 . Also I noticed when I was checking the phones meid ect that under phone number there is justt Zeros with 24 at the end I believe. So if anyone has any info on what I should do next thank you in advance.

Is your wifi on? If so, turn it off and reboot. I had this same problem when switching my EVO over to Ting. The wifi conflicts with the radio trying to switch carriers.

Yeah the wifi is off, but thanks for trying. I called boost and gave them the bit about having issues, and they said they reset system, but who knows. If I try to wait after the code when I try calling out it just disconnects me. Right now I deactivated the donor, and will reactivate it when I get a answer that may work.

As long as you are positive MEId is correct you should be able to do a ##786# reset, changing SPC/MSL to match donor is not needed btw. If you are still not able to do an OTA activation after ##786# , then you can always manually enter the needed info to make voice and text work. Just press ##123456# (123456 is your MSL) select edit or whatever and then in first pop up enter your phone number and in second pop up enter your MSID. Then hit ok and phone should reboot and voice and text should work then, if not let me know and I will help you get it up and running.
Hope this helps...

More than 99% sure MEID was the result of a "donor" meid and your device "mating". So to say.
What you need to do is check to see if the MEID matches the one on the battery sticker.
Secondly, it was probably flashed because it had a BadESN.
I can say a few things.
MSL
16-Digit Password
DFS CDMA Tool
Number bumpin till they start humpin.
Direct Message me if you really want to know.
Yosh.

You may be correct about the bad esn # because the sticker has been removed. As far as the MEID, it only comes up with a hex number with the typed code that has been checked and is clean.
Well, I can "fix" it for you. Just make sure your device is on 4.1.2. I'll get the MSL n handle it with DFS.
Its an Epic 4g or an Epic Touch 4G?

Epic Touch 4G. At the moment I don't have it. My son took it back home. I'm not sure what version it has either. There was an update waiting to install and he did it last night.
Ok that's perfect. When you can direct message me I'll give you a number to text and we can get the fix going.

Regardless of what it displays a factory restore won't even clear the MEID because the original has to be removed in order to put a valid cricket MEID. If you go to checkesnfree.com and in the dropdown box select sprint and type in the MEID it will let you know if it is a valid MEID for sprint. If not it will state on the side "InvalidESN"
Let me know what it says.
By the way, if you said you saw guides on how to unlock/flash it; its the exact same process except all you need is a S2 sprint MEID and Sprint PRL. Do a factory restore; and it will update via Handsfree activation. You should put the ESN on the Sprint account before doing so. Another good thing to do is put a BadESN and Sprint PRL first and let it update by handsfree and it will put the owner with the badesn info automatically but it will have all the sprint settings again. After that process you can put a clean one then factory restore and it will be brand new stock from sprint.

You are correct. Factory reset/restore didn't work but, after doing QBKing77's Unroot / Unbrick the Samsung Epic 4G Touch, it activated. I believe when I told my son to call Prepayd, they may have give him a dummy ESN. Anyway, it is working now. I do appreciate your helping since no one else seemed to be concerned. Sprint Rooted Galaxy S6 920P. MSL# Help

I am trying to use my phone as a wifi hotspot. I've tried calling sprint, the sprint store i purchased the phone from, and live chat attempting to get my MSL code. I've tried the terminal getprop ril.MSL rooted and non. .. nothing is working. The msl apps don't work. Does anyone know another way to get my msl, or a way to use root access to allow wifi hotspot without msl?
I called sprint and told them that i always write down my ESN and my MSL number for reference and they gave me my MSL without hesitation. if it doesn't work then call back and try someone else.
---------- Post added at 12:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:18 PM ----------
Or, if you're rooted you can enable hotspot this way:
Download sqlite editor
Open sqlite editor, select files
Then /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db/
Select carriers
The last 2 lines (APN2LTE internet) and (APN2 EHRPD internet) you will see (default, mms)
add ,dun
It will look like this "default, mms, dun"
Make changes in both lines, reboot, enjoy.
if you are not rooted and have access to another clean esn. use the website to swap between phones. when you activate a new one online they will give u an activation code. thats your msl
I have tried the steps above with the Sprint Samsung S6 but it borks my net ani idea why?
I tried and tried with Sprint to get my MSL, if you own the phone outright they will give it to you no problems, all you have to do is ask, its not like you can switch carriers on them because only in the USA are phones carrier branded inside, which means you can't flash a T-Mobile firmware on your Sprint Galaxy s6, it will bork the phone. (you have to get another phone specific to that carrier)(USA ONLY) If you lease the phone like I do or you are paying off the phone monthly in your contract they will not give you the MSL, some say they got it but I tried so many times, and every time you chat or call they log what you say in your account, I called back so many times they said we can't give you the MSL# before I even asked them for it.
What I did since I still had my old S4 in the my dresser, I got online and went into my sprint account and I activated my old phone (s4) I got to the page that said thanks and says here is your activation code if needed, this code is your MSL#, so I clicked activate phone and selected my new phone (s6) got to the thanks page and got my activation code... you can only have one phone at a time activated with your phone number and every phone you ever had with your number with sprint you can select and activate anytime. I did not talk to anyone and it was like a total of 10 minutes of time to swap and swap back if even that long, its easy if you ever had a previous phone with THEM. I have my MSL# now, even got the same info from the website in an email a few minutes later so this was the easiest for me.

Note 7 kicked off Australian networks

Okay, So I've got my note 7, I rooted it yesterday and installed a custom ROM, downloaded Titanium backup and blocked all the things I was supposed to block to try and prevent my phone from being disconnected from the networks.
I tried to make a phone call earlier on and I get the message saying "this device has been blocked from Australian Networks" blah blah. I'm on the Telstra network as is my wife,
I did the same with her phone, and she still has full access to networks including phone calls. I don't know why I've lost mine and she hasn't.
Well ****. Weird thing is, though. I still have access to internet, 4g+ and the ability to send text messages and I have no idea why I can't make phone calls. So I'm turning to you guys to try and help.
Have I been IMEI blocked? I've been reading about the xposed framework, and a free app I can download that masks my IMEI to seem like it's a different phone. Will this work?
Thanks guys.
Changed my IMEI and it's still telling me the handset is blocked on this network. Kinda hope I can get phone calls back, if not, Samsung won. I'll have to hand my phone back

Did not work. Still telling me it's blocked.
before network blocked, you have update or something?
Nothing. Was freshly rooted, titanium backup was given su access, blocked everything I was told to for packages, went to work, got 1 phone call for the day from the wife, tried to call her a couple hours later and nothing.
Interesting, we are okay in Toronto so far

IMEI can only be changed illegally from pros..they have ads on EBAY for $25-$50 to do such thing. Its illegal so I can not say its the right thing to do. Im only saying thats the ONLY way to change one.

Really? I've used an app and it's telling me it's changed in system info and when I dial *#06#? Is that just masking it?
I just checked my original IMEI, and it comes back blocked since yesterday.
No idea how to change it.
