Hi, I was rooting and installing a custom ROM on my fiancee's GS3... And I clicked the wrong version (19300 because they were right next to each other). I ran all the way through the aroma install and it asked me if I wanted an automatic reboot so I said yes. Now the phone won't turn on, go into download mode or anything. When I plug it in, the LED only comes on if the battery is out.
Is there something I can do? Would a jig fix this? Would a local phone repair shop be able to fix it relatively cheaply? I know it's a total n00b mistake but I've rooted about 9 phones before with no problems.
Please help!

Thank you for your responses. I finally googled "QHSUSB_DLOAD" because I was trying to get it to show up in Odin, and found this thread:

Worked perfectly. I didn't even need a jig, much less a jtag!

Also I'm pretty sure you flashed a rom for a different phone because the AOKPs for our phone are named something like aokp-hercules-selfkang_620 (the numbers at the end vary)
Edit: yeah you definitely flashed for the wrong phone. Just because you're in a Galaxy s ii forum doesn't mean its the correct one sorry about your phone but you HAVE to read before flashing hopefully this will be a good learning experience for you. Again sorry about the brick

I Googled that filename and I'm getting an I777 build of AOKP. I'm pretty sure you can't flash I777 builds on this phone. You're probably hard bricked.
Read, read, read before doing anything other than using the stock software!!! Always make sure you are flashing something made specifically for your device! I hear some of the Skyrocket builds are compatible, but I would double check, and then triple check. Or do what I do and just stay away from them to be safe.
Someone else can confirm whether I777 ROMs work, but if not, you will need to try a warranty replacement or get it JTAGed by MobileTechVideos.
I'm not sure why you were trying to flash an old build anyway, they are on Build 39...but that's another story. Good luck, hope you get it worked out.

nope nothings happening. no pc detection no powering on NOTHING.
lol, you done goofed. next time you should only flash things that you find in tmo gs2 forums. ahaha. You defs need a JTAG unless you can get it in download mode. Also, WRONG SECTION.
Questions go in the Q&A section
You might need a S RIFF Box JTAG Boot Repair/Unbrick, make some searches in your area or on the internet to find a qualified person/company to do that for you.

This is not his problem that he is experienceing. If it is not powering up at all then it is truely a hard brick.
I did this to my phone last week and no matter what I tried, i could not bring it back.

I almost gave up and was willing to try to do a warranty exchange (knowing it was not going to be honored).
Sent it to the guys listed on my thread. I guess you have to have software and hardware to basically rewrite the firmware on the phone then put a stock ROM on it.
Luckily I had a restore point already on my external SD card and was able to get everything back.
Its not cheap but it did work for me!

Its really unfortunate but this type of thing happened to my friend and he had to get an entirely new phone
I attempted to flash newest CWM and got a brick. The phone will not boot into any mode and I pulled the battery and held the three keys and cannot get it to boot into any mode. Is there a way to flash somehow back to stock and start over?

I do not think I did it with wrong files. I made a tar from the img file I got from clockworkmod.com so I am sure it was clean. I am wondering if perhaps it screwed up because I had changed build.prop to say the device was "Galaxy Nexus" for Wallet to work properly. And maybe that mod I made confused it and somehow flashed something for a Nexus instead and that is why it wont function. If I had it to do again, I would have changed the build.prop back for few moments while I changed the recovery image. All of this was simply to update CWM to newest 6.0.2.8 since ROM Manager told me there was new one. I wish I had ignored it and just said no. Is there no way to hard reset this thing somehow with ODIN or a key combination that say a Samsung employee tool may "flash factory" to it? Seems odd I cannot fix this on my own. No tool nothing?
I've heard the wallet needs to be reset and all that before anything new is flashed.
I haven't flashed anything since the wallet, so I haven't looked into it yet.

Look for JTAG repair. If you can't even get it to turn on, that's what needs to be done.
It's not a home job - to tools cost several times more than the service and require more specialised knowledge.
If you can get it to turn on, look into making or buying a micro-usb jig - cheap and might work if you have time to mess around.

I am certain that is the reason I have hard brick. If I had changed build.prop....changed the recovery with mobile odin....then gone and changed it back afterwards...I am sure it would not have broken the phone. At any rate, I just will have to await warranty replacement since I get mixed readings about this MTV solution that costs almost 100 bucks.
No need to change it back. Once wallet is set up and your card activated, you can set your build.prop back to t999 and Wallet will still work perfectly, it only needs to say Nexus for the install/activation.

Again, if you simply change your build.prop back to the correct values for the T999 afyer you activate Google Wallet, the entire issue would be avoided and Mobile Odin should be safe to use. I know its too late for that for the OP, but hopefully someone somewhere can learn from this.

I already tried taking the battery out and waiting 30 to 60 secs, hitting the power bottom without the battery then putting the battery right in and trying to get into recovery mode.
Everytime i plug the phone into the computer via USB, the computer makes a noise like it recognized the device but then asks me for the "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" drivers. I think i found those, not sure yet... Please help... I can't sent the phone to customer service since i rooted the phone my warranty is void.
Help please.
Bricked take it in play dumb they won't know your rooted its dead. JTAG will fix it 50 bucks I think. Weird it booted and was fine then won't boot. If you take it to T-Mobile play dumb they don't know any better. No wanted damage or cracks they'll replace it. Just call they'll mail one to you.

The issue was that he installed the wrong rom on his device. Happens all the time with the t989. He probably flashed a rom for an i9100. Both devices are marketed as the samsung galaxy s2, which confuses new users.
Try using Odin to flash the stock ROM. can you get it in download mode?
Hi all. I am pretty sure I bricked my wife's S3 when I tried to root it using the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682 - has nothing to do with the tool kit, more like user error. I have rooted multiple past phones and my current note 2. I got to the odin part and it did it's thing but nevere rebooted to go to the next step. I cannot get into recovery, the computer doesn't recognize the phone now and the screen doesn't do anything. Any ideas? I am pretty sure I bricked it and will need to get a new phone for her.
Appreciate any help or confirmation of a new paper weight.

Does the device do anything at all when you try to power it on? What exact steps did you take when you attempted to root the device? If the phone does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, not even vibrate, then your looking at a hard brick. If it does vibrate and/or you can at least get to the splash screen, then it's a soft brick and stuck in a boot loop.

It does sound like it is bricked. In the future, never unplug the phone while Odin is flashing it. (Im assuming this is what you did?) Always wait until it says PASS, RESET, or FAIL. Sometimes it can hang for 20 or more minutes, but it should always eventually show one of those 3 results.
Just to be sure though. Pull the battery, then put it back in. Try to boot into Download Mode. Try to boot into Recovery. If you can get one of these you are probably not bricked. If you cannot get to either one, and you cannot boot normally, then I am afraid you are bricked.
This does not mean you need to buy a new phone however. What it needs is something called a JTAG fix. You can probably find several shops online that will do this for you, but the one that always gets mentioned around here is http://mobiletechvideos.com
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I hope this helps you. If you do get it fixed, next time I suggest rooting with the root66 method. It is much safer imo, at least I see a lot fewer problems with it.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. I did get the reset and waites for just over 15 minutes. Nothing was happening and I thought it was bricked so I did unplug it. When I used the same tool to root my N2 it took less than 5 minutes for the entire process.
I will check out the link. Appreciate your help! Thank you.

Thanks for getting back. He screen doesn't come on at all, but it does vibrate once after a battery pull and then nothing. I followed the steps and got to "reset" in odin where it was waiting for the phone to reboot and after 15+ minutes I thought "crap" bricked it. Unplugged, which I would screw it up which it did. I am going to look into the company DocHoliday77 mentioned below. Worth a shot as cheaper than buying another phone.

hi everyone -
i have screwed up royally. after reading and reading and searching and searching (all day - my eyes are bleeding at this point)...i have decided to take a shot and post and see if there is a solution out there.
please accept my apologies ahead of time if this has been covered somewhere else, but i am at a complete loss and really need some guidance.
my phone is bricked but i have not found an exact scenario to mine.
on boot, my phone displays the same as the image above that @stevediaz posted.
i can access the download menu (cannot access restore menu) BUT my device is not recognized by any machine or by odin, so i am unable to flash anything on it and i have a steady blue LED light.
is there a work around to this? is there anything i can do to get odin/my pc to recognize my device? if i can't fix it myself i plan to send it to mobiletechvideos before i completely give up and bury my beautiful brick.
i have rooted my devices before and have never bricked a phone. i'm pretty sure i just used the incorrect rom which is a horrible terrible rookie mistake...one which i am terribly embarrassed about.
i will never make this mistake again! ever ever ever. i am looking at my beautiful phone just sitting there looking at me with accusing & accurate eyes. sighs.
if posting this here is not kosher, please let me know, but i figured since this thread is the only one i have found with a situation resembling mine, it would be a good place to start.
thanks in advance for any help offered.

Does your device display a yellow triangle before the screen above and say GT-i9100? You already have the blue brick of death, so mobiletechvideos is your only hope, because right now your phone has drivers from the international version which disables the usb so the pc will not recognize it. After getting it back from mobiletech, ensure you flash something from this forum ONLY. It must be from the Epic 4G touch SPH-D710 in order to work on your phone.
