Finally bite the bullet and bought the 32GB LTE version. It will arrive this week.
This is technically my 1st tablet, always only use laptops and cellphones. I have a Note 2 and now a Note 3 so I thought the tablet will be similar.
I bought a Nexus 10 before but I gave it to my daughter within a month.
1. So what are the things I should check when I get the tablet to know that I have a good and not a defective one?
2. What are the recommended apps? Is it the same apps that I have on my phone? Will the purchased phone apps work on it?
3. Haven't checked in a while but is there still a problem in triggering the knox counter when we root or flash custom ROMs?
Thanks guys. I guess I'll just ask more when I get it and encounter some problems.
Some people have reported light bleeding around the edges of the display, the pen input seeming to be off a few millimeters, creaking on one side or the other and some get really warm on the back during multitasking. MIne has none of these lol. I would also connect it to a bluetooth keyboard and make sure you don't have the disconnect problem that was initially prevalent. I think it has been less common with newer units though so samsung must have caught the problem eventually. I use many similar apps between my phone and tablet. The great thing about an android tablet it that it can even sideload apps that are designed only for phones meaning you have about 1 million or so to choose from. Screw the Ipads 475,000 lol. I run gmd gesture and spen control and tasker as must haves. I would recommend getting note buddy, secure settings, and external keyboard helper pro as well. I automate mine to turn on my bluetooth and connect to my touchpad anytime my usb keyboard connects to the tablet. and removing the spen using the note buddy plugin changes pauses and unpauses gmd gesture control so It doesn't interfere with writing or drawing. Spen board switcher is also nice to set your imei to change depending on insertion or removal of the spen. stylus beta is faster and more accurate than the samsung keyboard that is based on it. I use nova since touchwiz is a pain to me and i use the 4 window multiwindow mod. Multiwindow manager xposed modules and the one to make any app multiwindow are all musts as well as penwindow manager and pen window launcher. Using gmd spen and gesture you can actually launch penwindow at any time using a simple finger or pen gesture you set up without going into air command. Basically though any android app should run.
Oh and yes knox still gets tripped but if you bought and accidental protection plan its still worth rooting in my opinion especially with cleanrom 2.0r2

What to check...
- Loose Speaker Grills
- Lightbleeding (having lightbleed is normal in LCD's just depends on the severity)
- Loose S-Pen in Silo (activate and deactive the s-pen functions due to it not sitting in the silo properly)
- Loose IR blaster
- Creaky Device
- Dead Pixels
- Screen coming apart from bezel
- Severe Battery Drain (most likely motherboard issue)
The ones listed in red don't bother trying to fix it just return it and get a new one, don't expect to find these problems as they are not common however some people have experienced them so just something to look out for.
The other ones just depend on your level of leniency.

Has anyone with a stylus noticed that their stylus works fine when the charging cable isn't connected, but as soon as you plug it in the stylus input becomes very unreliable? Almost as if the screen becomes less sensitive while charging.
Mhmm, Ill have to test this...
Regardless of charging, has anyone experienced an overall lack of sensitivity with the GTab 10.1?
I bought it to be able to sketch on and was really disappointed with its lack of control.
I got the Jot Pro Stylus by Adonit and haven't tested another stylus yet.
Does anyone have the same feeling or an answer without rooting the tab?
I can help with this !! So a while ago I wanted to use my tab for writing and I got all of these apps to use as notebooks and I totally forgot about the idea. A few days ago while going through the top paid apps I noticed this app (link) and I totally forgot that I purchased it a while ago. While reading its description, I noticed that the dev said:
"Galaxy 10.1 owners: You must have root on your device and use TouchScreenTune (free app that fixes your touch screen sensitivity). Otherwise the writing will lag.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vital"
So I checked out the app (which is free and requires root) and people were praising it on how it works and how it makes stylus use a much more pleasanter overall experience through a lot of apps. Good luck and let me know how it goes! I haven't tried it since I don't want to root my tablet for now.
You need to root it and buy TouchScreenTune. otherwise, this device is so slow that stylus usage is unthinkable.
i have this kind of problem before.
I'm using CyanogenMod 10.1 by pershoot and try to compare with TouchScreenTune app. So far there is no different. If you on CM 10.1 don't waste your money to buy these apps.
I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a month now, and I've put my Nexus One up for sale on an auction site. I love the Galaxy Nexus, but here's why I'll miss my Nexus One:
Car Home & Car Home Launcher - These should be stock on every Android. I've added them to my /system/apps folder. ;-)
FM Radio - The Broadcom chipset is capable of FM radio, but Samsung has disabled it. Why?
Trackball - I miss the trackball. It was especially useful when using a terminal emulator.
Charge indicator LED - The amber/green indicator for charging/full charge was a nice little nuance.
Came with power cable & USB cable (instead of USB cable and AC adapter for USB cable) - How cheap do you have to be to not give you one of each cable?
Came with headphones with mic and media controls. - Again, why did Samsung cheap out on this? How much would it have cost to throw in this cable?
Had a Desktop Dock with pogo pins and Bluetooth Audio - Not a big deal, but I'll miss it.
Had a Car Dock with pogo pins and Bluetooth Audio - I miss this more than anything else. I bought the POS Verizon mount for $40, and promptly returned it when I realized it didn't have a power cord/car charger, Bluetooth, and automatic pairing that Nexus One car dock had.
More application compatibility - ICS compatibility for apps seems to be kind of slow to roll out.
Permanent Menu button - I'm not an Apple user, stop taking away my buttons! I don't miss it much, but it is kind of annoying to have the new triple-dot icon at the top of some apps, and at the bottom of others.
Permanent Search button - Again, stop taking away my buttons.
MicroSD card slot - I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like the complete lack of expandable storage, but I DO like not having to hack my phone to move apps and data to /mnt/sdcard and /sd-ext. 32GB of built-in storage is nice.
It's a good thing I have a ZAGGsparq 2.0, as the Galaxy Nexus sucks down battery like crazy.
I don't have a belt clip/case for this huge phone!
AT&T's GSM 3G (HSPA) is MUCH faster than Verizon's CDMA (EVDO) 3G when I'm not in a 4G LTE area.
I've adjusted to most of these changes, but I'm writing this because I think Nexus One owners should be aware of what they're losing when they upgrade.
Now that that is out of the way, I LOVE the following things about my Galaxy Nexus:
The huge screen
The speed
It doesn't lock up/freeze/reboot. Battery pulls used to be about a daily exercise for me on the Nexus One. I have YET to have to do a battery pull on my Galaxy Nexus.
4G LTE is awesome.
ROMs will give you your buttons back.
Lightflow can be used to create a charging indicator.
I asked this in other thread but are you guys noticing the led is like many colors in one? More specifically three cause I know that's how it makes other colors but are you guys seeing those three obviously.
Like they don't blend in to make the right color. They do but its like crappy.
Idk how to describe it.

Yep, I got my menu button back on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. I hate that they took away the menu button. It makes the phone so much harder to use one-handed.

The LED is prismatic but only when displaying white. Any other color it's perfect.

I know what you're saying, and I agree but it only happens for some of the colors, such as purple and orange for me. Green, red, light blue, all work perfectly. It may just be something with light flow though
As mentioned permanent home and search buttons can be fixed with zip file if you're stock and it's baked into most of the major ROMs now (at least the option to customize it)
Also the otterbox defender series cases have available belt clips, so does seidio
The FM radio point did annoy me as well though
Green and red and blue are perfect because its just the one color shining. My sky blue is very close but on bottom there is a little green seen. Idk maybe my leds brightness are uneven idk.
I don't care that much but knowing other colors are perfect for others bothers me.

I agree partially and fully on some of your reasons. Until the other day. Used my N1 extensively to flash some things and guess what? The N1 is too small now after using the sleek and sexy gnex. And the touchscreen is crap on the net. Pure crap. After you got used to it you could live but the atrix and gnex have spoiled me in that area.

Wow! $50 for a clip/case

Thanks for letting me know about these two great places for accessories.
I just priced the Otterbox Defender for the Galaxy Nexus, as well as the Seidio accessories. $49.95 is out of my league for a clip/case. The $69.99 for the 3800mAh Seidio extended battery is tempting, but I'll have to wait.
I've got $20.00 invested in a RocketFish clam shell style case, and I keep my phone in my trousers pocket (NOT with my keys). I also have another $15.00 invested in a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD to protect the screen.

Other multicolor LEDs will have similar results. You are just nitpicking it, because its larger than a lot of other leds in phones. Therefore it is more noticeable.
Which ROMs please?

Got any suggestion as to which ROMs? I tried flashing the replacement SystemUI from Paul (at another forum) with Menu buttons on both sides and a search button, but it apparently is not compatible with the LTE/Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus, and I had to manually restore my SystemUI to get things working correctly again.

Thanks for this. Lightflow is doing the job for me. It's slightly annoying that it will only activate the LED when the screen is off, but admittedly, that's when I need the LED to work the most. ;-)

Almost all of the ROMs now a days have this feature. I personally perfer codenamedroid. AOKP is also another popular ROM.
What I miss about my Nexus 1:
- Size (double edged sword because i also like the large screen size of the GN when surfing/typing)
- Battery Life: Had much better battery life on N1 ATT GSM than on VZW GN/With Exentended battery
Stability:
- Never had any freezing w/N1 (was stock & rock stable). GN have had random reboots (about 1 every third day),
GN has odd screen unlock problem where the pattern dots don't appear unless after i wake up the phone, i hold the power button in until prompted to turn off phone). goes away for a while if i reboot phone (or it reboots itself lol)
GN has odd stack problem where after using a lot of apps, the back button starts unwinding all kinds of different apps even once it gets back to "Home" screen. When the stack gets too large, shortcut icons on home screens don't open the correct app. I'll have to hit back 20 times then everything starts working normally again.
GN has odd stack issue with Exchange email notifications: opening an email from the new mail notification seems to open the entire stack of new notifications. Even after the notification has been dismissed and a new one generated. (ie get 10 emails, dismiss new notification, get one more, use notification to open the newest mail, start hitting back button and it will cycle through all 11 emails, alternating with the inbox.)
What i love about the GN:
Screen size for typing/browsing: my hither to heavily used tablet has started gathering dust
VZW 4g speed
General snappiness of ICS (well really the new processor/memory as i still think ICS is a bit of a pig resource-wise)

Nexus one had all kinds of issues as well including multi touch malfunction and a terrible battery life.
Has anyone been able to use all of the features the Note 2 has to offer at least once? Anyone?
I feel like there is a wealth of things to learn with our Note 2's. It's to the point where I get exhausted and I try to see my phone just phone like any other Android device. But wait, this Android Device is in a unique class of it's own, :cyclops:
I have, I think. I use Multi Window constantly plus the S Pen. I also use Air View in the Web browser for those difficult-to-hit links.

It truly is, and I say that with confidence! If all prior Stylist were like our S Pens then CM would have a solution... and eventually they will, fore its a solution that they will be forced to deal with (as the S4, GN8, GN3, etc are released)...
It will be the day when the rest of the world (incIuding developers) wakes up and gets in line with what GNII owners have been experiencing for months now

S-Pen? I haven't used that since the Note 1. I gotta try that on my Note 2 at once. It's been sitting there since Day 1, haha.
I use all the features everyday... college student so I just open up powerpoints in polaris and jot notes down on them with spen while having my messaging open in the bottom half of the screen... also use the motion features as well as google wallet for paypass purchasses.. giant screen for streaming flash movies and the super loud speaker while listening to tunein at work... oh and the biggest part of it all, the amazing battery lasting me all day doing all of these... also uses allshare to stream videos to tv as well as sbeam to transfer pictures/files to my girlfriends s3. As you can tell, I use everything I pay for:laugh:

Do you take regular notes in class? I'm trying to see if I should take notes on the phone. I used to take notes on the computer then I realized that itbwasnt effective as to wiritng it in a notebook. What do you use to take notes?
I use the giant screen and big battery life everyday if that counts. Also the s pen sometimes to amaze people.

I use snote or if you have powerpoints, you can free draw directly on them... people trip out when I walk up to the soda machine and touch my phone against it and a soda pops out
Oh I've got to try that NFC payment feature! I have a package of NFC tags (thanks, samsung!) that I've been meaning to play around with, although I did reprogram the trial one. It's ok, but the tectile app is slow.
I have used the spen to take notes in my EE classes. It does work pretty well, but I'm not sure it's cost effective; You'll have to replace the pen nubs, and then the pen eventually, and some people say it can scratch the screen (although I don't see how) - but if you use screen covers, it'll probably go through those pretty quick! (From what I've heard, anyway)
OTOH paper is cheap, and pencils are cheap.
I've used multiwindow, but you can't just make every app multiwindow, and most of the time when I want to use that, it happens to not work with an app I have open I'd love if you could just turn everything into floating app windows (or cards like webos!) but those are already kinda.. sorta.. options on android too
I've even used the included in-ear headphones that we t-mobile customers are lucky to get! AFAIK the AT&T customers don't get them, lol. They sound good if you jam them in, but I don't like this whole jamming rubber+plastic into my ear thing.
Oh yea, and it's still really fast. I've played around with it a lot, and loooove that.

do you have the multiwindow mod? you can run any app in multiwindow with it... as for the NFC payments via google wallet, it requires some work to get it to work on our phones
Hey there xda,
I have a question regarding odd s pen functionality. I am here to pick your brains.
My brand new tab s4 SM-T830 came with a possibly defective pen. The pen is always on. A cm from the screen or so it displays the cursor correctly, but a bit closer the cursor disappears and the pen is immediately active. It writes without touching or any button pressing. Instead of showing the cursor till a screen touch occurs it swipes the screens or long presses buttons or, where applicable, writes. The pen basically non-stop touchlessly interacts with the screen.
I tried switching tips, no fix. I tried the pen on an older note 10.1 2014 edition, the weird behaviour is on. I tried the old note 10.1 2014 pen on the new S4 and the pen behaves correctly and as expected.
Is this a bug or a feature? Is this behaviour intended for this pen model or is it a faulty behaviour? What would you suggest as a fix?
Android 8.1.0 ARK4
The device came from a bigger chain store so it is unlikely that they'd replace the pen only and I already set up this tablet so nicely... I am interested in possible solutions other than resetting and returning it. But ultimately if need be i will do so.
Thanks for your kind answers and help in advance.

Faulty pen. The calibration distance is off. Possibly something assembled incorrectly in it. I have 4 different S-pens from different devices and they all behave the same (correctly) as the new one that came with my S4.

For further reference: The tablet has been returned to me in working condition. I can not see in the documentation if a new pen was supplied or if the original was serviced. The tablet was refreshed to Android 9, not something I asked for or wanted.
It has obviously been something for the warranty repair center.
Thanks for your help with this.
It stopped working yesterday when I dropped the phone any tips?
Have you tried restarting the phone with the pen in it?
Sent from my SM-T727V using Tapatalk
Not working after a drop probably means HW-failure. Connections may have broken up.
If you know anyone with a Note (doesn't matter which version, S-pens work on any Note - apart from the BT-functions), you could test whether it is your phone or your S-pen that has the defect.... (if your pen doesn't work on other working Note it is broke, if other S-pen doesn't work on your Note your Note digitizer most probably defect).
You could also test whether S-pen detection in phone is broke by going in S-pen settings and allowing use of multiple S-pens; if your S-pen then works, that detector is broken.
If S-pen is broken you are lucky, buy new online as they are not too expensive.
