Hey Guys ,
Recently installed Asylum rom on N2 , So far so good , everything is smooooooth.
however i will appreciate if you guys help me understand what is eating my space???
I Should have around 6Gb free (this is the 16gb N2) , however i do not... - please see the screen shots attached (and as far as i remember they should have around 12gb total space for extra and the rest for the O.S , or am i wrong?) - take note on the stroage manager screen shot (down right) - it says 6gb free.
2nd - i recently saw on Sammy roms they enabled the "move to external sd option" - but can not see it anymore on the Barebone (kitkat) Rom , any mod or so ?
If ypu from 4.1.2 to 4.3 or 4.4. You must format ypur internal storage before install those 4.3 & 4.4 new rom.
This is the common issue dont worry.

So ,
Moving stuff from int storage to temporary space , formatting , and moving back should work without harming the OS itself?

S-offed and rooted when I first got it. Removed all the bloatware, and got some needed space back. Tried to install custom ROMS that I found off of xda. When flashed the Rom with unofficial cwm recovery, the phone booted back up, but with no signal. When trying to connect through WiFi, under the quick settings option said "Error". Cannot use WiFi or get a signal. Was wondering if it had anything to do with the bootloader not being unlocked. Went to htcdev.com to unlock bootloader, downloaded the Rom update utility for the virgin mobile wildfire s, the ruu told me my Rom image needed updated. After starting the update, phone reboited with the silver HTC on the screen, then shut off and restarted only to be told by my computer that there was a "device id" error. Anyone know why no signal with custom flashed ROMS? Thanks.

Have you been flashing GSM roms? If so i believe this have been caused because of that. Roms that you should flash on your phone should be CDMA only.
I'm not sure. I mean I'm pretty sure they're CDMA roms cause I searched "htc wildfire s virgin mobile cdma custom roms" on Google and found like 5 or 6 roms. I've been trying to get some sense 3.5 roms for it but I've been having problems with no service.
If you go to the Wildfire S Android Development section, there are several active threads for Marvelc phones.
Try:
-[Rom] [Kernel] [Soff] [Many More] Team MarvelUSc which has a ton of stock ROMS and custom ROMs.
-[WFSDEV][AROMA] .sense, a customizable Sense 3.5 ROM for the Wildfire S & Salsa which is a Sense 3.5 ROM with some Marvelc support (some users have reported issues).
-[WIP] [ROM] [AOSPKERNEL] SSCM7 for CDMA Wildfire S which works with bugs with MMS and the camera.
One of those should work for you. These are just some examples of popular threads. There are many, many more ROMs out there.
Thank you. Sorry for being lazy and not looking through all the threads, there are just so many out there and I don't always know exactly where to look. That's why I just made my own topic so I could get some user/dev advice quicker. Also, does Astro File Manager let you change folder permissions such as read/write? I.e. I'm trying to delete the virgin mobile boot animation and it wouldn't let me.
ASTRO does not permit you to change root directories as it does have root privileges.
It is best to use Root Explorer or Root Browser, or something similar.
I use Root Browser and never have any issues and it's free. You can easily change permissions, copy & paste files and folders, etc. I have never personally tried Root Explorer.
Thank you for l the replies. Thought I wouldn't hear anything back for awhile. Gonna download root browser and try that out. Got the playstation one boot logo with sound and wanna try it out but gotta get rid of the vm one first cause its really obnoxious. If anyone has cdma roms or come across any will you post them in this topic so I can try them out?
I'm running jmz's v1.5 right now, just make sure u partition your SD card for it.

Is it a sense 3.5 rom and if so could you provide the link for me so I can test it? I have a 32gb SD card with 28gb free. How much should I partition it?
I partition 512mb and about 60 swap run dalvik off sdcard using app2sd. Works great. Really smooth 2.1 rom.
P.S. kernel oc's to 806 mhz

I'm new with the app2sd and data2sd and I'm eerie about messing with it until I read more or get more feedback on it. I did read about increasing my internal storage to 150mb with data2sd and partitioning my SD card but I'm kind of scared to do it cause I'm afraid something will go wrong.

The internal storage is 150mb all the time unless u use a partition. It's very simple to do, just make sure u copy all your music, pix, etc to a computer before making the partition as this will format your card.

Its very easy. If you don't have anything worth saving on your sd card (or if you do, back it all up on the computer), go to recovery choose advanced then partition sd card. Then it will ask you the size. Choose whatever you want. I chose 1GB just to be on the safe side in case i decide to go app crazy. Then everything else is automatic.
If you want to go further and free up more of your /data partition use the apps2sd app and move dalvik-cache to SD.
What apps2sd program do I use and where can I get it?
If u r using jmz's rom it has the apps2sd GUI app preinstalled. U can use it to move dalvik cache to SD, zipalign on boot, etc, but once u make the partition and install the ROM, your apps will automatically move to your SD partition. No need to do it manually.

Make sure u have cwm 5.0.2.6 if u have a different one u could run
Into problems, also check your hboot. I'm on 1.06 and recommend the same. Also make sure u r clearing dalvik cache, formatting boot, data, system, cache, and SD ext before installing ROM. I would also create a new partition of 512, so it will be a completely clean install. If u have done everything right u will have no problems, if something wrong has happened, most likely it was an error u made and can be fixed.

If your phone is acting funny you could try superwipe by simonsimons. I did just because I was flashing so many roms and mods everyday
He has also posted original stock ruu's. I recommend jmz's rom it's been working perfectly, and I've tried the others. Most mods have flashed without issues.

I partitioned my SD card for 4gb with a 256mb swap (which I don't quite know what that means) I have a 32gb class 10 SD card and I don't even use a 1/3 of the space so I figured I'd partition using the biggest option available. I flashed jmz's rom and everything went okay. I currently have 102mb of internal free by using the link2sd method and I ended up flashing back to the stock vm Tom cause I didn't like how jmz's only had around 56mb free. Is there any way to get more than 56 or is that cause all of the stuff on the rom?

they wont move.its just a warning that space is low.
her phone is rooted? if yes then several things you can do to install more apps.
or if not, then you cant do anything.you have to sort out in low space.and she can't install much apps.you can see internal space in settings>applications>manage applications at bottom bar.

I am using stock rom too.
There are many roms like cm9 which is ICS build and others are cm10 which are jelly bean builds..
You can find roms on android devlopement thread.
And for internal storage tweak first of all you need to partition your sdcard.
FAT32 :remaining
EXT3/EXT4 : 1 GB ll be enough
LINUX SWAP : 512 MB
linux swap partition isnt madatory except link2sd.but you hv 16 GB memory card so make that partition too.it works as backup RAM.its 512 MB because wildfire s has 512 MB RAM.
ALL PARTITIONS SHOULD BE PRIMARY AND YOU CAN MAKE THEM BY MINIPARTITIONAL TOOL ON WINDOWS.
There are many tweaks for internal memory link2sd,mounts2sd and int2ext+
Best one is int2ext+ but for that you need custom rom with init.d suppport..
Tell me if u need more help.good luck

haha.okay man dnt worry.
so for rooting.follow this tutorial:
http://www.htcwildfiresblog.com/2012/03/guide-to-rooting-htc-wildfire-s-235-s.html
in this tutorial first you need to make account from htcdev.com and then follow instructions on that page:
(IN TUTORIAL YOU FIND STEP 1,UPDATE YOUR BOOTLOADER BUT IF YOUR PHONE HAS LATEST UPDATE 2.26 ,THEN YOU DONT NEED TO UPDATE IT.YOU WILL SEE THAT INSTUCTION ON HTCDEV.COM PAGE)
then,
download rom manager from play store and install clockworkmod recovery.( its necessery to flash rom, mods etc)
and most important, after flashing custom recovery(clockworkmod) make backup of your current rom.because if you want to come back to your stock rom,it ll be helpfull.
about roms:
there are stable cm9 as well as cm10 roms.
cm9 is very stable,no major bugs except little lag on camera ( negligible) and camcorder record at 15 fps.
cm10 has some bugs but you can see jellyking rom on android devlopement page.people said its very stable.so you can use it if you want taste of jelly bean.
and there are another option like MIUI which has best UI. and sense 3.5 roms.
thats all.
i am using my stock rom because i like my sense best, stable, not a single bug and works good.

Have you made any backups? backups by default are stored internally and each one takes around 3gb... check your cwm folder on your internal storage with a file manager... honestly Ive never had to do anything extreme to free up space.. all ive done is browse the internal and find what exactly is taking up space.
Debloat and remove any system apps you dont use or wont need. and while minimal you can also delete ringtones, alarms and notifications youll never use.
you can also use foldermount to move game and app data n such to the external sd card.
as far as the bootanimation its easy enough to replace by moving the bootanimation zips over manually with a file manager, set permissions, and reboot. no flashing necessary.
ty 4 your response

The CWM backup folder is pretty well hidden unless you know where to look for it... system root-> /data/media/clockworkmod. That is more than likely what's eating your space; in fact, I would be almost positive that is where your space has gone. Either way, factory resets are safe, just realize that you lose ALL your apps + data. Anything saved on your EXTERNAL sd card are safe and won't be deleted though.

Did you try searching the forum for the answer before posting this? I assure you this has been covered at least a hundred times with various explanations and fixes.
Short version is that you probably made a CWM backup of your old ROM before flashing this one. It is saved to internal memory and taking up a ton of space.

I also had this issue after installing a few Rom's with just the standard factory reset wipe. It was fixed by switching to Philz recovery, (I was using TWRP but there is know issues with formatting your internal storage with that recovery.) And formatting the internal storage. Keep in mind this wipes the drive. Worked for me. :good:
thanks guys i found out what was the problem
Awesome. What was it? So others with that issue can use this for reference.
And also. Are you on Sprint? Be careful using anything from the T-Mobile section on your phone if you are. If not, you should update your sig info.

Backups in CWM are automatically stored in /data/media/ and the standard data wipe tends to preserve that folder. An easy fix that doesn't involve wiping your whole internal storage would be to move your backups from that location to your SD card... problem solved.
Hey guys!
I'm new here and in general, new to all these rooting and flashing and all.
Just have a question for you tech wizards here.
Had just upgraded my Note 2 N7105 from CM 10.1 to CM 10.2 on 4.3 and i was tinkering around when I noticed something.
Somehow a whole chunk of my internal storage (around 7gb out of 10gb) was taken out and labeled as System Data. (you can see from the attached pic.)
So here i was wondering, does the ROM actually take up that much space for its system files or did I forget to do something?
Had cleared cache and dalvik cache as well as did a clean flash of the ROM. Help anyone? =)
Its occupied by system files..so no need to worry

The ROM is also explained in the xda-developers-wiki.
