[Q] Slow internet? -__-

My galaxy s II has been going unbelievably slow.. 0.02 mbps, the most i've gotten is 9 mbps and that was ONCE when i opened my phone.. is there any idea why my phones so slow? It is rooted, but running stock 2.3.6

Are you using the latest sim card (one that came with the phone?) and your wifi calling works? My data speeds jumped from 7mbps to to 11 mbps as soon as I used the newer sim card.

Yes I am, I got it with my first galaxy s II (it had a problem so i got a new one,) it actually slowed my other phone down and froze it for a good 30 minutes, this one nothings been wrong since today, but I got slow speeds, now i'm getting even SLOWER..

Corpus christi, Texas. 4 bars right now, on 4g. Plan Unlimited 2GB havent gone over..

Only happens with data, I never get 3G/Edge it just says 4g and acts like its doing its HSPA+ speeds..

Try a speed test at night, at night I can get 15MBPS, 19 max...
During the day I average 3-4 and get 6 MAX.
It's terrible during the day.

Those are exactly throttle speeds. .06 mbps. You sure you're good on data? This has happened to me too though when I hadn't gone over. When my account was transferred from a consumer line to a dealer line I started randomly getting throttle speeds or slower. No phone rep could figure out what was wrong, I went through several SIM's, and even did a warranty exchange on the phone. Eventually my tmo rep did something on the back end and the problem went away. I wish I knew what he did so I could make a recommendation. Either way, good luck.

Sounds like it's throttled to me, call #932# what does it say for you're data use?
Did you change the APN settings at all? What do they say?
Settings > Wireless > Mobile Networks > APN

Sprint Airave tech finally confirms an issue between S3 LG2 modem and Airave!

I have been talking to Sprint everyday since LG2 was released. Nothing but problems staying connected to Airave. Sometimes I loose 3g for hours, sometimes it drops to 1x, and sometimes voice and data are lost. So, I'm back on LF9 modem as it seems to be the best modem right now. They have done every test on Airave possible, communication between them and Airave is perfect. My brother has HTC EVO LTE and when he comes over, he has none of these issues on Airave. Pretty much narrows it down to the S3 modem itself or modem firmware.

I wish I could say the same, LF9 working better, could be my ISP also, recently found out Lousiana Suddenlink customers statewide had internet issues.

My GS3 will only connect to my Airave for data, not voice. Power cycled both the Airave and the phone multiple times and nothing I do can get the thing to use the Airave for voice. I can still call out and receive calls, but i'm connected to a native Sprint tower. I don't get the usual tone you hear when you're connected to an Airave, the mobile light doesn't blink, and there's zero bandwidth usage on my router when calling. I can verify through my router that it is definitely connected to the Airave for 3G data though as I can almost peg my slow-ass 1.5 mbps DSL.

My Airave connects fine, but is as bad as it's ever really been. Only get about one or two walls worth of penetration with the stupid thing, it's pretty worthless in larger homes. In 2 bedrooms, the back yard, garage, and office the Airave just causes dropped calls. What I could use is a "Roaming Only" button, as there is very strong Verizon service in the area (those handful of times the phone goes to roaming are very good times).
This happens with the OG Epic, E4GT, GS3, iPhone 4S, and an old blackberry. If only they allowed us to up the xmit power on the things or install better antenna's.

I had LG2 and my airave was working okay. I have lg8 now and it seem to be working the same.

Sprint is sending me the new 2.5 airave device to replace my 2.0 one should have it shortly. Hopefully the new software in the 2.5 will work better. Been having your same issue since I got the device on lf9

Seems like most people have had a decent experience with the Airave? I just ordered one off of ebay. Hoping to get more than 1 freaking bar in my apartment. I drop calls all the time and I have to go outside or stand near a window to get more than one bar. Hoping this will get me a couple more bars. Only spent 37$ for it...so it's not a huge loss if it doesn't work as advertised. I tried to get one free from sprint but alas, they however did say they would pay the 5$ or whatever it is per month so hopefully they'll still do (been a few mths) that when I call them up and tell them I have an Airave.

Yes the 2.5 is smaller and will have airave 2.5 on it. But now I'm running into an issue to where the GPS is saying I am in Austin when I am 20 minutes from downtown Dallas. Call quality has increased but data drop still to 1xrtt however it does pick back up evdo rev a quicker.

I don't pay sprint for data usage and pay Verizon fios for data for nothing. Plus I game don't need excessive bandwidth sucking my latency. Plus the arrive only uses a small amount of bandwidth to convert ur isp signal to evdo rev a

Stock LG2
Sprint sent me an Airave due to poor signal at work. I use WiFi for data while I'm at work so that has never been an issue. I installed it in my server room (one wall between my office and the Airave) and I get full bars. I walk to my company's neighbor which is connected to our buisness and it drops to two bars (three wall and about 40' destance). The signal does drop but its still usable. Over all I am very happy with the product.

Does anyone have any specs on the differences between the 2.0 and 2.5?
Personally I hope they fix the issue of it needing to be in FRONT of your router (right off the modem). Or at least make it so the airraves internal router boots up first before it tries to connect to the sprint service.
Should my device lose power I always lose internet for about 15-20 min while the stupid device boots up and connects... Thankfullyl i'm on a battery backup, but it can be annoying.

i have the old one and I don't need to keep it in front of the router...i just plug it in the router like I plug in my computer to the router

Laptop gets 50mbps down, GN2 only 25?

So, not having run a speedtest on my laptop in a while, I actually thought my roommate was lying to me when he said we should be getting faster internet. Apparently he's not. Question being, with the speeds people are pulling on LTE, why can't I pull the same speeds from my wifi on my laptop as my GN2? My laptop is getting 50mbps down, while my Note tops out around 25mbps although yesterday I pulled a couple over 30mbps which has never happened before. Can anyone explain why I'm topping out like that when so much more is capable?

It can be a number of factors, buildings , wind , weather, static interference, anything could be a factor. It won't always be consistent.

Those factors have nothing to do with wifi or why my phone wont go over 25mbps when it can go way higher than that.

It could be the type of wifi antenna that we have on the phone. Max speed is achieved using MIMO streams which required multiple wifi antennas. I suspect that GN2 wifi have only one antenna, one stream up or down.

Just seems odd that it maxes out at that speed on wifi yet with LTe its capable of double that. Does anyone else get more than 25mbps on their wifi?

Mobile app might not use as much data. Not as much time to optimize the connection and really fly.
The pc site may be allowed more bandwidth to get a speedy connection with.

LTE and wifi are not using the same antenna. MINO is the basic for wifi (N) to achieve higher speed. If you go out and by wireless adaptor. Usually there 2 type of Wifi (N) offer 150N and 300N. The 150N has only one attenna, and the 300N usually has at least 2 or more.

So... still curious, what are others getting on their home wifi?

What is your link speed. My usually at home SD shows 39 or 52 mbit but I have seen 72 too. I dont have internet service fast enough to see if phone is the bottleneck.

When I look at the network in the task manager on windows I believe its actually like 130? Im at work now, have to check when I get home? Is that the correct way to find out?

At home I have 40/20MB and on my phone I get 38/19 at work I have 100/100MB and on my phone I get 85/80MB.

So my link speed right now is actually 144 mbps, though during busy times it might go down to 130. It definitely seems like we are supposed to have better internet because I remember a couple months ago it was only 72. Anyways, what exactly am I doing wrong? Shouldn't I be getting even better than 50mbps on my laptop, at least? Also, my router came from Comcast, do I need to upgrade it to get the full effect or are my laptop and phone somehow limited? At home I'm getting better than 50 on my laptop so shouldn't I be getting 35 or 40 then, no problem, on my Note? It would be aggravating if Comcast was charging me for faster internet but not telling me I needed a new modem to take advantage of it. Actually, more like stupid than aggravating.

Yes you will always loose some throughput over wireless unless you have a beast of a router but plugged in with the hardwire should give you full speed. I would test by hard wiring to the router with your laptop and running a speed test then hard wire to the modem and do a speed test. If both router and modem are the same. Then its a wireless issue.

Well, I'm obviously not going to hardwire my laptop or Note. Would simply spending 50 bucks on a router from best buy, also avoiding a rental fee from comcast, improve my optimal speeds for my laptop and N2?

That's just to trouble shoot if it is your router or modem that is bad so you don't buy a new one when that was not the problem.

Well it's just the normal router that comcast gave us but I believe this was actually the second time we've updated so couldn't it be possible our comcast issued router is outdated? I've never been able to get better on any public wifi. I've just always had this creeping feeling that my account is just old enough to be on a weird plan where I am throttled overall no matter where I'm at opposed to other people. I've just never been able to duplicate the speeds on any phone that other people in my same exact area have. Like I'm handicapped for some reason., I mean, I basically get the same speeds on my N2 that I got on my Sensation, if not lower sometimes, and that just makes no damn sense whatsover. Don't we have a kikass radio over the Sensation?

I'm seeing similar to what you're seeing. I just had Verizon replace my router with a new Actiontec MI424WR which has gigabit & 802.11n. I have FiOS 50/25.
On a laptop running Windows 7 with an Intel 6300n wireless adapter one room away from the router I get 48-55 down. Sitting next to the laptop with the GN2 running ParanoidAndroid 3.15 with the LTE updated modem I get no more than 20 down. If I hold the phone 12 inches from the router in the other room, my Speedtest result hits as high as 33 down. If I take the laptop into the room and run the test next to the router, I consistently see 58 down.
Edit: Prior to getting my router replaced, I had the old Actiontec with 802.11g and if I recall, the laptop & GN2 both got around 12-15 down. Never better. Replacing the router made a huge difference but the laptop saw a high max down.

T-mobile network location and 4g being very strange

I have a galaxy s 3 t999 rooted running on carbon room 4.2. My phone does this strange thing with 4g and data location though... I run various speed tests and I get 200-400kbps in an area where I have full bars of hspa+ and used to get 13mbps. (the tower is about 500 feet behind where I'm at most of my day). Also when I run these speed tests, my ping is sometimes over 200 and I get a crazy location like Kansas City or new York, but I'm sitting here in Memphis Tennessee, even with location settings turned on. If anyone can send me some insight it would be greatly appreciated. If I have to flash a new radio then so be it. Here is an attached screen shot

I bet its the ROM your using. I tend to get different signals whenever I switch between ROM's as I do usually. If you haven't solved the problem already, try switching ROM's.

Or start by flashing back to stock. Then test and if things are ok, then try flashing some roms. This may be an issue with how close you are to the tower. 500 ft is probably not far enough away to be in line of sight and its signal may be overshooting you. It could receive your signal, but you may not receive its in return. Go about a 1/4 mile away, turn airplane mode on then off and see how it functions then.
Also, call T-Mobile to see if any towers in your area are experiencing problems or are under maintenance.
If that doesn't help, id try different modems as well. Could be due to the upgrade to LTE perhaps.

Love my Memphis lol. Born and raised here. Thanks for the tip, if it narrows it down at all I live in Germantown and the tower is on a TVA line but it's in eyesight. Only a tree or 2 blocks it. Thanks for the feedback though. I've called tmo many times and they reset my connection which I could do by doing a battery pull, but whatever. Thanks for the replies guys

Does it seem to go quick enough for regular use?
In speedtest, your latency (ping) will always be high. While idle the phone will drop to 2g/3g to save power and bandwidth. It has to switch over when you start using it which accounts for your ping times.
I dont understand how it picks its server either. But you can manually select it if you choose. Read through my modem thread too btw. I should have some other speed test sites listed should you choose to try a different one. Comcast has a speed test page is an example.

This also happens to me I'm in myrtle beach sc and if I do speed test, it will say my server is in Tenn or KS. Have had network reset menu times still does it. But I have great speeds none the less so in my opinion I say let it ride unless it is affecting your speeds. Again my opinion I'm no pro

I should also mention that just because a server is closest, doesn't mean its the fastest or best choice. I do know it tries to automatically pick the best one, but im not sure how exactly it does this. I imagine the app attempts to pick a server by examining things like network congestion, response time, maybe the number of hops it makes, etc. Just speculation. (And it probably receives this info from its own server, so its not actually doing all this from your phone)
in the past Ive gotten blazing fast speeds from a server 250 mi away and quite slow speeds from ones only 40-100 mi away.
Unless your actual usability is suffering, I think youre probabky ok.

I'm Sad. Problem with torrent apps..

So full bars of T-Mobile LTE here at work is a dream to download files with.
I usually use Ttorrent pro with my past devices and I would download files at 1.5-2mb per second on LTE.
After getting my Note 3, it seems like all torrent programs max out at a pathetic 14-20 kb/s and average 3-5 kb/s. Hello dial-up speeds!
I tried downloading all the other popular torrent apps and I would get the same result. Bitcoment, utorrent, atorrent ect.
Tried factory resetting the phone, same results.
Put my sim card in my Note 2 for ****s and giggles and low and behold, downloading at 1.5-2 mb/s. Wow.
Is this an issue with 4.3 Android or did Samsung put up some firewall of some sorts crippling my torrent downloads.
I'm Sad.

Yeah I noticed the radio was much stronger on my LG G2. I would get a very good LTE signal at my home on the G2, (which also seemed to have the most bad ass radio on any phone I've used), I thought I was on Verizon for a minute lol.
On my Note 3 I would get 1 to zero bars and it would jump between H+ and LTE at home.
Well if anybody finds a solution to this torrent issue, please do post it. I want to go back to using 40-50GB of T-Mobile unlimited data a month.

I'm using a Bell one in Canada on bell. Ttorent at great speeds. I'm responding cause I'm getting a T-Mobile note 3 to use in Canada. Once I get it, I'll let you guys know (order gets here Monday).

I'm using aTorrent with PIA VPN and getting above 1 MB/s speeds. Perhaps adding "admin" to the APN type would help, but I haven't tested it for torrents, only for vpn.

would be nice to get to the bottom of this definitely making unlimited high speed data less cool.
Then there is the crappy lte reception at my house..

At first I thought it was only with lte but it's the same terrible speeds on wifi also. I'm thinking it has something to do with Knox.

At least it's not just me... Unfortunately this is a dealbreaker for me. My trusty Note II never had this problem...

Im having problems with the connections also, even my skype doesnt stay connected and every time I download an app from playstore it takes forever. Had the g2 before and had no problems. Still have the s4 I put the sim card there and use it and no problems. This is only with the note 3.

I play some online games (esp. Bloons TD Battles) and am unable to connect over mobile data. Works ok over wifi. Hmmmm

FYI using bittorent not having any issue ls on wifi or lte. I'm rooted and on darthstalker v2.
Downloaded the lone ranger 1.25gb files on wifi in my girls house she has like 50th down and 25 up and my phone took advantage downloading at about 7mb/s faster than what my computer at home downloads it. I was so surprised I went ahead and streamed it to her x box straight from my phone just to show off some more.
Not sure why everyone else is having issues. Also downloaded a 45min episode of a show on lte from her house where speeds are 20mbps down and 2 up. This was slower but more on the standards of what my pc at home does.
Haven't modified any apn or vpn or abc xyz

Stock unrooted here. I have been hoping to be satisfied with the phone as is, but am not hsppy with it at this point. I have always rooted and run custom ROMs before and msy go that route now, but this has soured my opinion of this otherwise great device.
