I am currently running CM 11 latest nightlies. Since doing so, I have run into the the insufficient storage error. It first occurred when I was prompted to update Hulu ±. So, I uninstalled the app and attempted to reinstall. Still insufficient storage. It seems to be hit or miss. I can install/update some, but not others. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried navigating to an /app-lib folder to delete orphaned app files but there is no such folder. I've tried clearing data and cache for the play store, services and framework and rebooting as well.

You can check your storage usage in settings > storage. Free up some space by uninstalling apps or deleting some media files then try again.

The path should be /data/app-lib/
It's definitely there, I had the exact same problem. Just go in there, delete the folders for the apps you can't update, as well as any duplicate ones your find.

I am unable to install apps from the market. I can access the market and select the apps but all I get is starting downloads which doesn't change even if I leave for hours. I have WI-FI enabled and can access the web with no problems. Here is what I have tried already.
Clear Data in Downloader,
Clear Data and Cache in market
Factory reset
Flashed to CyanogenMod 7
and I still cannot download any apps.
If you have s-off you could try deleting the market.apk file and then reinstalling from a non market source? If you search xda I'm sure I remember several threads about this.
I had this problem a few times. Have you recently changed your Gmail (If you use Gmail) address from @googlemail to @gmail? This is what caused the problem for me and many others...

I never did work out what was causing the problem. I installed CyanogenMod 7 and all is work again.
Yea, sometimes just a reflash fixes the problem. I also found that, sometimes, the download would just finish but never actually install - almost as if the .apk downloaded but the Market Process just never actioned the new .apk to open, so it just sat in /cache until the next reboot, doing nothing.
log in to google talk...i think that should solve the issue.
I've been running the Blazer ROM (best one so far) with no problems until I updated to the latest version. For whatever reason I cant download apps from the market. Everytime I try I get an error box saying "Error downloading _____ (insert app name). There is insufficient space on the device." I've tried everything. I'm not a noob either and I know how to flash. I've wiped and wiped again. I checked all my settings too. I even tried downloading from my computer to my phone. This is fu**ed. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks in advance.
This same thing is happening to me. There is still clearly space on both the SD card and the internal memory, and yet, it says there is insufficient storage on phone. It is rather frustrating. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
go to settings. go to applications. then manage applications. find market and click on it. clear data. open market and try again. let me know if that works
Lol guys you just have to flash a different kernel. Try the new one steady just put out. Im pretty sure phantom fixed this though. Do u have the latest version

There is insufficient space on this device
I have a similar problem.
I have E4GT with Caulkins 2.9.1.
I have the following storage available on my device:
SD Card 24.25GB
USB Storage 3.25 GB
Device Memory 1.23 GB
I get the following error when trying to update apps, or install new apps:
"There is insufficient space on this device"
I have gone into settings>apps>google play> clear cache. -> no change
I have downloaded App Cache Cleaner app and cleared all cached files. -> no change
Hi, I am using a Nexus 7 with Beta 3 and i cannot seem to get Google Apps to install. I get the message insufficient space in the system partition. I have tried deleting apps but it doesn't seem to make any difference. What else should i delete to make it work? Ive also tried the mini Google apps but it still isn't enough space apparently. My device has 8.5gb free however.

The system PARTITION (key word) is a part of the hard disk set aside for just the system files that 8.5G is the USERDATA partition

Hi, I recently updated to the cm11 stable from cm10.2 and am having the google play problem of insufficient storage, but only for the snapchat app. All other apps update and install fine. I have tons of free space and have tried cleanmaster and app cache cleaner to find residual files, and cant find any large amounts of log files taking up space either. I'm not sure how to deal with this issue since, so far, it is specific to only 1 app. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

I actually just figured it out surprisingly on my own. It started happening with other apps too. In /data/app-lib there were multiples of some app folders named something along the lines of "chrome-1" and "chrome-2" or "snapchat-1" and "snapchat-2". When I deleted the "-2" folder for the app that wasn't updating or downloading the error was gone. Hopefully this could be helpful to anyone else with a similar problem.
This is driving me crazy. I keep have storage space issue when trying to install certain apps. Currently I am trying to install Mapfactor. I had it installed previously and just removed it. Now it says I do not have enough space to install it. Storage says I have ~650 mb free. Why can I not install a 9mb app? I have cleared my cache and dalvik and still I get insufficient storage space. I've attached a screenshot of my storage settings.

I was just able to install a different app that was 40mb. But, I still can not install the Mapfactor app again. WTF!?

So I dug deep and found a Mapfactor file still in /data/app-lib/. Once I deleted that file I was able to reinstall the app.

I have been having similar issues trying to install apps . I think my data is corrupted with the EMMC BUG

Since my discovery above, I check the /data/app-lib folder if I have any issues installing apps. I had this happen on a couple other apps and each time they had data in that folder. Once I removed that data, the app installs perfectly.
