If I long press the power button, instead of showing the menu where I have the commands like "Power off, reboot, profile, airplane mode" nothing happens and the phone locks just like if I pressed the power button once. And if I long press it for a long time the phone will force shut down which is normal.
However when I reboot my phone, everything works fine again, so when I hold the power button for 2 seconds, the menu appears. But after some time the bug will occur again and I will have to reboot which is very annoying.
Is there a fix for it? And do you think it is a hardware problem but it would be strange since after a reboot it will work.
Note : I recently factory reset my phone, wiped everything and flashed the CM 10.1.3 custom rom (which I also had before) but the power button bug reappeared. So I don't think resetting it again will fix it.
Using lg nitro hd, cm 10.1.3 rom, with wind kernel.
I just got exacly same thing, 10.1.3, wind kernel, and reboot will fix it.
Suspect is some memory leak? Logcat showed ION_IOC_ALLOC out of memory.

Ok, logcat is showing mpdecision missing timer something and throw error every 5 sec, then i figured out wind kernel 2.6 doesnt touch it, only 2.5 disable it. So i flashed 2.5 then 2.6. Now the logcat is better, but not sure this repeating error cause the oom, time will see

So I was using the hardware test on my T-Mobile SGS2 by dialing *#0*# and I tried the sleep mode test. After quitting the hardware test, I realized that when I press the power button when my screen shut off, I don't see the lock screen anymore. It jumps right to the home screen. Also, when I hold the power button down, I don't get the power menu, instead, the phone shuts off. I feel like the phone is still in the hardware testing mode, at least for the sleep mode. Any clue on how to fix this?
Edit: I did notice that every time I restart my my phone, the factory test service starts running.
Bad move. I believe the only way to fix this is factory reset....

Unfortunately that's the only solution I see to this.
Hi guys.
So i managed to get my desire wet/damp and whilst it still works it has developed 3 issues:
1) The weirdest of all - the phone wont go into standby, as soon as you press the power button or let it timeout the screen goes off and they instantly turns back on to the lock screen. If i leave it, it will timeout again on lockscreen and come back on, it does this forever. I have done factory resets etc, all the same. Weird right
2) Volume keys do not work - think means i had issues getting into recovery. Finally found a widget to do it and then....
3) Trackpad does not work in recovery so i cannot re-flash or try any new rom to see if that fixed (1)
Proper catch 22
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

UPDATE
OK I HAVE AN UPDATE:
The plot thickens but i have managed to S-OFF my Desire and eventually install Clockworkmod Touch which obviously doesn't require me to use the trackpad button so I was able to use Recovery. I wiped the phone and tried reflashing the ROM i had been using (Insertcoin) but this made no difference, the phone still keeps waking up immediately that it goes to sleep (either with power button or by sleeping timeout).
So i decided to install a completely different ROM (CM10_VJ_4.1.2_v3.0) and this installed fine. Now the phone will go to sleep and stay asleep if I press the power button. Problem solved I thought!
Now when the phone is asleep 50% of the time, trying to wake it with the power button will cause it to reset immediately and goto the white HTC screen. When it restarted it sits on the unlock screen and keeps timing out, screen goes off, then immediately on again - weird. If i unlock and lock with power button it will behave. For some reason the Search key will wake the phone every time no issues. Only the power key to unlock causes it to reset. Phone is sleeping according to Battery info.
Any other suggestions for what I could try. Could this possibly be something hardware related now? If there a way i can log the key presses or reason it wakes/resets?
Any help really appreciated, the phone is pretty unusable with this reset issue now.
THanks

May be a hardware issue. But try installing a lighter ROM like dGB or MildWild and see if the issue persists.

Thanks mate. So i tried this and installed CM7 today and have discovered something. As i said above the volume down button doesn't work and the volume up only works with some persuasion. Once i installed CM7 the problem where I lock phone with power key and it instantly wakes up now persists (on the JB rom it at least stayed asleep but reset if power button was pressed again).
However whe i changed the display timeout to 15seconds i watched as it timed out and instantly woke then noticed the volume would increment down one notch each it woke up again. This leads me to think that rather then the volume down not working at all it is actually stuck down permanently and could be causing the issue here. Is there any way I can find out if this is the case and disable the volume keys through software or do i need to open up the phone and disconnect it?
Thanks for any help - i think we are getting there!

Flash a ROM which can be unlocked via trackpad and volume can be adjusted from the phone settings without touching volume keys and the power button on the top.
I recommend MildWild5.8 based on CM7. When I was on it, I totally forgot about volume and power keys because all the phone operations can be done without them.
Thanks thats a great suggestion. I actually worked out that the trackpad is being pressed down constantly too because on CM7 when i disable trackpad to wake the phone actually stays asleep.
Is there any way to disable both volume and trackpad buttons at the kernal/system level?
In Android 4.1--pretty much every iteration of it, including CM10--when I hit my power button to sleep the phone, the phone would go to sleep immediately. In 4.2 and beyond, there is a half-second delay when I push the power button and when the screen actually turns off.
This issue is present in 4.2 stock, 4.2.1 stock, 4.2.2 stock, 4.3 stock and every single version and nightly of both CM10.1 and CM10.2 that I've flashed. Disabling the CRT animation or changing the animation scale does not fix the issue; the device still hangs for a half second or so before turning off the screen.
This persists no matter what I do. The usual suggestions do not work; the problem persists. It's going to drive me nuts eventually, because I keep thinking it didn't take, mashing the power button a second time, only to turn my screen back on again.

Hello.
Add the "go to sleep" control on the notification drawer's power widget (Settings->Interface->Notification Drawer) and try it. If works, problem solved. If not, we can discar hardware (power button) issue.
I've never encountered the issue in everyday use. It has happened to me a handful of times, but only when the phone is heavily bogged down. Never under normal use. I assume you would know if your phone was being bogged down though?

I'm having a weird issue on my completely stock, S-ON, non-rooted M7. Each time I reboot the phone, I'm unable to get it to sleep, either by the screen timeout or the power button. The screen simply will not turn off. Eventually it'll start working again after some random time period or random event, but it could be hours. If I keep rebooting it, it may eventually work after a random number of reboots. Once it starts working again, it's fine until the next reboot. Any diagnosis ideas?
Double check it isn't an app preventing sleep. Check all recently installed apps and their permissions (the one you are looking for would be "prevents device from sleeping" or something of that nature). If it isn't an app, it could be something corrupt in the data partition, which means only a factory reset would fix your issue. (Reboot to bootloader via vol down and power and select factory reset and press power button to confirm).

I'd factory reset

Old thread, but just wanted to close the loop to help others if they experience this. Turns out I would see this problem only when restarting the M7 WITHOUT powering down. If I power down first, then power up, the issue goes away. Strange, but at least it's fixable.
Recently the power button on my fire phone has become more and more unresponsive. Right now I can still get it to register, but I have to press it very hard and hold for usually 30 seconds or more before it responds.
I have installed an app for "touch turn off" from the home screen to avoid using the power button, but this can be inconvenient, since I always have to exit whatever app I'm using and go to the homescreen if I want to turn off the screen. I am also concerned since it seems the power button needs to be pressed in order to do specific things like reboot shut down, etc.
has anyone else's power button become unresponsive with time. This is clearly a hardware defect and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for best how to take care of it. would the device need to be sent back to amazon to be fixed? I am overseas right now which makes that more difficult.
appreciate your feedback on how best to fix this.

My power button is working fine, but I've always kept it in a case as there is a noticeable gap between the button and the housing. I would recommend taking a cotton bud and some rubbing alcohol and see if you can clean round the button to ensure you don't have any crud that has built up in the switch over time.
Also, a neat trick in CM is you can double tap on the status bar to turn off the screen. Settings -> Display -> Double tap to sleep. Also there are several apps in the playstore where you can initiate a shutdown/reboot.
I've had this problem in the beginning actually, after the first month of having my phone i had to press really hard to get the power button to register. just like you i started using an app to lock the screen and the home button to turn it on. Strangely enough though the problem eventually rectified itself, this is what I've noticed but i don't know if they will help you.
1) The ROM made a difference, i noticed that the power button gave more trouble on stock than custom roms, i don't know why but you should test and see.
2) depending on the case you are using it can weaken some of the buttons(this happened to my volume and power)
3) Tampering physically with the buttons can restore functionally: using a small item(or you can open the phone) i tapped the underlying triggers and noticed they worked fine and were very responsive. This lead me to believe that the outer button projections were either slightly out of line or degraded in some way, by moving them up a bit i was able to restore function to my volume rockers.
Hope this is of some help
Hello, I was using cm11 and i had my power button unresponsive and even sometimes pressing it would just get my phone to restart. So yesterday when @ggow released his update on cm11. I cleaned install it. I mean i backed up everything and then wiped every partition in twrp except that for ''System Partition'' then i flashed the new rom. Setup my phone and cleared all the pictures and movies. I had same new phone again. No Crashing / Freezing or Unresponsive. #Workslikeacharm!
