Here you can read up

Thank you for the reply, please what is the latest stock version of HTC one X and please help me with link for stable Custom Rom (4.3 or 4.4), am having problem of choice on the above link.

Officially we are on 4.2.2 sense 5. Only CM custom builds are on 4.4. You can only go there if your hboot is high enough (safe is to be on 1.36/1.39 or higher)

Please how do I check my Hboot, kindly do me a favour by providing the direct link to the above ROM you mentioned.

Hboot number is stated in the bootloader and all those roms are in the original android dev section

go to fastboot with volume keys (up down) select fastboot(with on/off key) then select reboot
to update to sense 5
if you are not rooted(back in the fastboot screen unlocked= rooted locked+ no root)
go to settings=>about phone=>software updates
if you are rooted you must first relock bootloader flash original firmware which you will have backed up while rooting(nandroid)

yes just update your phone thru settings=>about phone(the last option)=>software updates
to do a nandroid backup you must unlock and flash custom recovery (video 1/2) do not flash a custom rom then simply in your recovery go to "backup & restore" and backup everything

yes nandroid also backups kernel
just follow the videos and you should be fine
now you should do stuff in the following order
update phone=>unlock bootloader=>flash custom recovery(cwm if you want cm11)=>flash boot.img in fastboot=> flash rom and gapps

I think am getting better now, a friend told me that I need network to flash KERNEL before I can flash custom rom. How true is that?
Is it possible to unlock bootloader without been connected to the internet?
Like how many MB will it take to upgrade from 4.0.4 to 4.2.2 (Data subscription is a bit high in my location)
Thanks for bringing to your precious time to assist me.

600mb
cm11 and gapps is 300 mb
and then a recovery + files
approx 1gb for everything

ok, i think you've tried to flash a stock rom without flashing a stock recovery !!.
do you have fasboot adb on your pc ?
you need to unlock your bootloader and re flash a custom recovery
if not search the dev section for a tool that will unlock your boot and re-flash a custom recovery for you-all the instructions are on there.
once you have re unlocked and flashed a custom recovery,go into recovery and see if there are any backups of the previous rom (nand)
see if that works ..

help?:crying:
According to the hboot (1.12) you need a 2.17 based ruu .... but i can't find it !
Tthe basic steps now are
Unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Get your nandroid backup there,(the vodap021 2.17) you need to flash the boot.img file from that nandroid with fastboot commands, then do a full wipe in recovery and restore the nandroid.
But you still have to fix the fastboot part right ? You need to install android SDK/java SDK and the HTC drivers. Then you have to put the phone in the bootloader and open a commandprompt from inside the folder where the adb/fastboot files are located ...they are in a subfolder in the installed javaSDK install folder

Thanks, it is beginning to make some sense to me now.
So first bit I got to do is the fastboot issue, which is tha last bit you mentioned right?
And after unlock boot loader than flash the recovery with one you provided in the link, tx
So that means I will go back to stock right?
Yes unlock, flash custom recovery, flash boot.img, full wipe in recovery, restore the nandroid, flash back the stock recovery .....
And yes this way you go back to stock and i will also give you the download link for the stock recovery. This one is the last you flash after restoring everything
http://db.tt/U5CK4noo
Then you are able to update to JB from within the phones software update menu
Ps you do not have to relock the bootloader anymore !

Please guys, iWe spent all day trying to figure it out, after wipe phone reboots constantly and when if boot screen it's not charging so I'm prob going to run out of battery in a couple of hours
You restore through the custom recovery. Power+vol , choose recovery. If you flashed the recovery ok then you can do from in there. Ie mount usb, copy over your nand backup and restore it. You may have to flash the boot.img using fastboot.

[Q] So after root bootloader?

Ok so I followed 2 videos I cannor post since I am still new to root my phone. Weirdly enough it worked the first time (knowing how unlucky I am with these stuff).
So after this I learned that I have to unlock the bootloader. SO being the noob I am I went to actually check it out. What it was, not the process. I then found a rom I liked and the way to unlock the bootloader. So my questions:
1) Is there a possibility my bootloader is already unlocked?
2) In some posts I saw that the manufacturing date might make your phone hard brick. I think it was in some experia models. Does HTC Desire HD has any problem with that? Mine is : HT138RX... do I need to write the whole thing?
3) When you unlock the bootloader will the original rom work or it's just a step before you put the custom ROM?
4) once it is unlocked assuming I wanna change ROM do I have to unlock it again?
I already did my full back up so... Thanks in advance. I did a full search in the forum but couldn't find answers to these :/
The original post had also the links but since Its my first post I cant post em...

Bootloader unlock and root are separate, and you can't root without unlock or S-Off. I don't know what you did, and I don't know what state your phone was in when you got it. If you tell me that I will know how to answer your question better. All I know right now is that your phone is S-Off, meaning that you can flash anything on it.

Honestly I don't know what I did. I just followed the instructions on this youtube video I found but cant post it because I am new here... I ll probably do so later. What do you mean what the state of my phone was? BEfore it was original. First time I rooted it. I used ace hack and ultimate warp drive. I didnt have to downgrade also because it was 2.3.5 android version.

OK, I think I understand your confusion. You need EITHER bootloader unlock OR S-Off to flash a recovery and flash root. You have S-Off from AAHK (which is now unsupported), so you don't need to (and can't) unlock your bootloader.
Now, to have root, either flash a rooted custom ROM from recovery or flash a superuser zip on your current stock ROM.

I have superuser in my stock ROM and Root since I installed like 3 different root checker apps to check it and all said its rooted. So I am thinking of flashing Jellytime now since I did my backup. Will I be able to? Or do I need anything else? I already have the guide about the Jellytime and gapps.

Hmm just did a stock rom back up through clockwork mod recovery and now I am thinking of flashing jellytime. Do I need to install a kernel or just the rom / boot.img / gapps is ok? also is there a difference if i do it with clockworkmod or as others do it with 4ext?

Since you are S-Off you don't need the boot.img, just flash ROM and gapps from recovery. JellyTime is AOSP, not Sense, so you do need to flash gapps. If you ever flash a Sense ROM, you don't need gapps.

as you have mention above the link of root.zip, its of HTC One XL(non-tegra device)
if you have htc one xl then you are in wrong place..
He has the quad-core. The XL variant has no 1.73 hboot and 4.19.720 software number. So he is in the right place
Easiest way now is to restore the nandroid backup you probably didn't make before messing around with the superuser.zip !

any suggestion will be appreciated. thanks
The 3.14 ain't gonna help you as the touchscreen won't work ! You need a nand that matches your main.
If you can't find one then i suggest you install a clean new custom rom of your choice !
then cyangenmod?

if i install clean new cyangenmod? do i need to do anything extra? i mean any other installation!
do i need to follow any other method except installing using clockworkmod recovery?
sorry for asking many things, i never knew that tinkering with htc one x would cause me a brick device on my hand
You need to flash the boot.img via fastboot, make a full wipe in the recovery and install the CM.zip and the appropriate GAPPS......
thanks for your precious time

Well you need a stock nandroid backup that has the same main version number 4.19.720 and restore it. As long as you don't have that you can't go back to stock. But there are custom roms based on pure stock looks. You can install that too.
good roms based on htc sense

You can't install anything like that via fastboot if phone is locked...you need to be unlocked and for the latest cm roms like cm 11 that recovery is too old... He can unlock too, flash a recovery make a nandroid backup without flashing another Rom and there is your backup

Here is the nandroid backup for HTC 038 4.19 - https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B3ipMMzpaJW4bGpMVTRNRHFpOUk/edit
But they're seperate files and you need to download them all and place them in the right folder.

i have flashed the android revolution hd rom. this rom is the perfect one, just the same as htc stock rom.you guys were really helpful.i would like to know many things about kernel and kernel flasher. what kernels actually does? i tried search the forum but couldn't find a simple post about it.
i like using android, and i wanna know most of it if i can.......thanks
Simple explanation, the kernel and hboot function sort of as a bios of a pc. It interacts with the software.
A kernel flasher....you don't need that if you flash the boot.img (kernel) straight from fastboot. The flasher does the same.

HTC One M8 bricked

Hi, a friend as a joke decided to go into TWRP and do an advanced wipe and ticked every single partition and wiped my phone.
Now there is no OS/USB port etc and when i turn my phone on normally it gets onto the HTC bootup screen but is stuck so I'm unable to turn it off until the battery runs out, however, im still able to enter TWRP which is running v2.7.0.2.
I live in Australia and am with Optus, how can i re-install my OS? IDM if it's still rooted or it's back to factory state.
Thanks
Because destroying $700+ devices that doesn't belong to you is "funny", he's an idiot. Already costing you plenty.
Hopefully you made a backup and try to restore from your backup. The only one I saw in the backup folder was an old one.
Else you could probably flash a custom ROM but you probably won't go back to stock again unless you can find a nandroid for your device. If it was me, I'd make him give me the money for a new phone, afterwards he can forget about this "illusion of friendship". Anyone that destroys your property for a so-called "joke" isn't worth the effort and definitely not a friend, period.
Good luck.
I never bothered to back up the hardware so I really can't go back to factory default?
If not can you recommend to me any custom ROMs? and yeah i don't think he knew what he was doing exactly but I'll make him pay me back.
You can always restore back to stock if you want to.
There's a backup of earlier version 1.22.980.1 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
But you need Philz recovery for that.
Then after restore, you can do multiple OTA updates to get to the latest stock ROM
You also can seek if there is a newer backup here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703789

Suppose it depends what software version you had on your device before he wiped it. If it was the 1.x then you can probably use that nandroid backup, if it's any later then I don't see any backups for that in that thread. Might try the Australian thread in general section or maybe even hop by at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/140?g=245 and see if someone there has it. It's an Australian forum so who knows...
ROMs, I used Viper before and it was good, if you're more into the stock experience than maybe try MaximusHD or ARHD. Just make sure you download a ROM version compatible with the firmware version you have i.e if you were on 2.x before being wiped download an older ROM version for 2.x, if you download the newest custom ROM and you don't have the latest firmware you'll end up having problems with radio(bluetooth, wifi, data, gps etc).

To be honest, I was wondering if he'll be able to use an old nandroid backup if he wasnt S-OFF. If you reckon it's ok then he can just restore that one then :good:

I see your point and I can't confirm it will work 100% as I never try on a S-On device and no S-Off means that no firmware downgrade but always a firmware upgrade.
But restoring a lower nandroid backup doesn't affect firmware. So in next OTA, it will update the software version no. but not the firmware when the firmware is older than the one installed. Until it reach the OTA which carry the newer firmware then only the system will be updated to the newer firmware.
A lower version software can run on a newer version firmware but the newer version software may not run perfectly on older version firmware.
As he has a S-On device, no harm trying as it won't affect anything when it comes to hboot/bootloader and partitions.
as known up til now i know indeed a lower nandroid can be used without issue. the only problem arises when the touchpanel drivers are being updated as example. when that happens the older will restore but you can't be able to use the touchscreen so its useless at that point.

If you are only unlocked and not s-off you will need to pull the boot.img out of the viper zip and fastboot flash that boot.img.

sorry but how can i do that?
extract boot.img from Viper zip.
boot phone into fastboot mode (power off, then press volume down + power and you should get a menu, navigate to fastboot oprion using volume keys and power button to select).
once in fastboot mode, connect phone to pc/mac using usb cable
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
this is assuming you have fastboot installed on your pc/mac.
Code:
fastboot devices
can be used to check if device is connected or not.

On your pc you must unzip the viper zip. In there will be a bunch of folders and a boot.img. Take that boot.img and place it in your working fastboot/adb directory.(if you need a copy of fastboot see below-simply unzip the download) Boot phone into fastboot USB mode and connect to your pc. Holding shift right click the mouse while in the fastboot/adb folder and select open cmd prompt from here.
Then type
Htc_fastboot flash boot boot.img
If successful reboot phone and check WiFi.

Yup, as suspected, OP needs to update firmware.
Also its not necessary to manually extract and flash boot.img on the M8, even when s-on. The previous folks giving this advice may be carrying over knowledge from an older HTC device.

Hi guys,
I tried to make a custom rom on my new HTC10 - something goes wrong (no it wasnt my first one )
But now I am a little bit stucked:
First the data:
** UNLOCKED **
htc_pmeuhl PVT S-OFF
CID-11111111
MID-2PS620000
ColorID-WHT00
LK-1.0.0.0000

OS-2.41.401.41
Aug 2 2017,12:18:15(857212)
The Error happend after "updating" the firmware cause the Lee-Rom suggested the newst one. After the first "Loop" I tried the next one and the next and the next... I dont know how much Firmwares I tried honestly...
I am able to boot into TWRP and I am able to come back to Stock Recovery... So that will work... Maybe my partition crasehd with the Rom?
Any Idea or a little step by step suggestion?
I did the "How to root and TWRP" - Youtube tutorial by Rootjunky and until than everything worked fine... after that the failed Firmware-Update...
I have an EU-Phone, based in Germany
Hope anyone can help and thanks a lot for any ideas!
Cheers

You are on the latest firmware for you phone. Did you try flash a US Unlocked firmware? Best thing to do is to flash the latest WWE RUU. Thanks @Kisakuku

Download and rename the zip to 2PS6IMG. zip
Place on external sdcard
Boot to download mode and press volume uo to flash. The RUU will erase EVERYTHING but you will be completely stock.

You mention flash gapps, for sense roms you don't have to do that, for aosp roms yes. But most of the time it's mentioned in the OP of aosp roms that you have to flash it twice, or flash the boot.img seperatly via fastboot to make it work. The correct gapps will do wonders too...... so i guess one of those things were the issue.
