I've never rooted before so bear with me. I would really like to root my 2014 edition. But have a few questions. I've been reading things for a while but just don't understand some of the terms and things that are used to do this.
1. Is there a root method available for Build JSS15J.P600UEUBMK1
2. If i do root and want to go back to stock ( lets say for warranty issues ) is there a way to go back and reset the counter to zero?
3. If i do root, is everything functional like stock? I really just want to root to get better sound by adding Viper to it and maybe get rid of some extra lag. Not really into changing things drastically from how it already comes out the box.
4. Should i backup my 2014 edition as it is now before i root? If so, then how do i do that process?

I've never rooted anything but now that I've ditched the EPIC the first question becomes....is there a way to get full root with a new device that has stock FROYO loaded?
I have not yet installed this morning update and figured I'd wait to see about rooting.
What I would like to accomplish is to get rid of all the pre-loaded crap, realize some better battery life and then get the FPS update.
So...assuming I can root, do I then flash a custom rom or?
Seriously....your assistance would be greatly appreciated as the plethora of how to threads gets rather confusing here
I got my Evo a few days after Froyo was released, so the Sprint rep updated it for me. The simple root method is, well, simple. Just use that and then flash any rom you choose and yes you will be able to rid your phone of all the bulk software. Depending on the rom and how you configure your device, battery life will vary.
One of the biggest decisions you'll have to make is choosing between a sense rom or the stock android look. Some roms combine both. Cyanogen my recommendation If you want to try the stock look, it's also the fastest I've used. As for sense roms, I'de suggest you try em' all.
So what made you switch from the Epic? I was thinking about trying it out...

unrevoked seems to do the job... even after applying the ota update u stay with s-off which lets u flash custom recovery and roms.
one thing that does suck with being rooted this way is that the engineering boot gives u much more than what the new one does... but thats for more advanced users.
yea rooted mine today using unrevoked but was on mac so was a little easier to do but is still a simple process from what it was before look around on youtube and on these forums youll find what your looking for just a simple search and your golden

Roms? Just start clicking and reading. Pretty much every rom has a description and instructions on how to flash.

Camera issues seem all fixed on the all the roms, but that's more of a rom issue not a root issue.
You can un-root, re-root, run a RUU, run a rooted stock rom, etc. there's so many choices I suggest you go to the guides in one of the first posts and start reading.

Better? Thats a matter of opinion. One click will put you on clockwork recovery which has had a lot of issues as far as not wiping correctly and that can cause problems flashing rom to rom so if you choose that method I'd switch to Amon_Ras recovery. Just run a search to find it.
Unrooting is the same no matter how you root.
A root method wont break your camera.

1. rooting makes it possible to flash new roms (which do require you to wipe your system, but once rooted use titanium backup, free app, to back up ur apps on the sdcard)
2. yes there are a few threads on here that walk you through on how to turn security on and install a stock rom
3.as far as i can tell you still get the t-mobile updates sent, and developers here take the new software and make it available to run on our devices.
4. Make sure your device is charged and follow EACH STEP in ORDER and copy the commands CORRECTLY.
5. "CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.2 (Froyo) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone." so in short they develop software.
I'd like to add that you will get updates a LOT faster with a rooted phone vs stock OTAs

Sorry, that's not right. To the OP - Rooting gives you access to the "root" user on the phone, which allows more powerful customisations and allows certain apps to run (those which require root).
S-OFF (security off) is the thing that allows you to flash custom ROMs. You could root and not touch S-OFF, or you could both root and S-OFF.
Neither of these require you to wipe the phone. But you need to be very careful in understanding what you're doing when you do either of these steps.

Of course you can root your phone and stay on the stock rom, that's where your at after every root! Just don't flash a rom, your not forced to. You will probably have to unroot to apply updates, but I think there's an app in the play store to temporarily unroot the phone, or disable super user & busy box? Your correct on using TB to remove bloat, and there's a thread somewhere in general about what's safe to remove, and it's also best to make a back up before you remove anything just in case. There are guides in the development section on how to root, or for a video tutorial go to galaxys3root.com. It's a site created by user zedomax where he makes videos on how to root & install custom roms/reviews that can be very helpful to less advanced users. 1. I heard/read alot regarding rooting to bring out the full potential of an android(s4) phone. What is the full advantage of rooting my phone? How does granting administrative access affect my phone performance?
2. I often see the jargon of bloatware on this forum, what does it exactly mean?

Rooting your phone gives you access to do anything you want ie (Apps 2 sd) that the phone dosent permit you to do.
A ROM is just a different feel, and its a faster alternative in upgrading your android ios. (S4 has touchwiz, can change it to Htc Sense)
Bloatware is a bunch of unnecessary apps that Carriers know youll never use but have it just cause. Its annoying and it takes up space. Rooting allows you to delete these apps, cause if its not you wont be able to remove it.

I was wondering if there is a sort of rooting guide for dummies out there. I want to root my phone to get rid of some of the bloatware that I will never use, and also to delete the annoying start up and shut down sounds. Other than that, I'm happy with Touchwiz so far, but I suppose adding custom themes would be fun.
I rooted my last phone (Samsung Vibrant) over 2yrs ago and don't remember how I did it. I know I installed a custom ROM, but don't remember how to do that either. I remember following a really good guide with pictures and step by step instructions though. It's early days yet with the S4, but I really hope someone will do the same kind of guide because it's very helpful for those of us who like to customize but don't have the time or knowledge to seriously get into it. When I look at some of the threads on rooting it just seems like a foreign language to me!

Try the motochopper method - the guide is pretty simple and self explanatory however if you're on latest kernel then rooting is a no go as of now

Thanks I looked at that and it seems straightforward, but I'm concerned about what to do after the actual root. Things like how to back the phone up in case I mess it up, how to delete things, how to add things. Also I find a lot of the terminology confusing... not quite sure what all the acronyms stand for either, like ODIN or CWM, or what each thing does exactly. As far as the kernel... as far as I know nothing has been updated. I got the phone on the first day it came out so I'm assuming it doesn't have the latest kernel. How would you find out? Not even sure what the kernel is or what it does :\ I would like to find out though!
^^^then you might be on an earlier kernel version anyway trying to root by motochopper method won't brick your device even if it doesn't go successful so no worries.
ODIN is the same software that service centres use to revive your bricked device - as a matter of fact with Samsung drivers, a usb cable and stock rom downloaded from online sources like sammobile, you can revert almost any instances of soft brick. Simply saying ODIN will flash back factory/stock rom anfd make your device as it was when you bought it. And yeah flashing via ODIN and all are more or less same procedure for all Samsung devices
Cwm is a custom recovery. If you don't know what recovery means it might be worth googling for better understanding the concept as even my knowledge is limited and my explanations might fall short of your expectations

with regards to rooting my s4 which is running on 4.2.2 jellybean, does motochopper actually brick my phone? In addition, can i root my phone to remove the bloatwares and afterwhich, unroot my phone again, with all the bloatwares already permanently removed? Is it possible to download the full list of softwares of the s4 online such that if i accidentally remove an important software, i will be able to restore it. As I am someone who is not into very much customization and over-clocking, i believe i dont need my phone rooted for custom ROM right? I can use stock ROM when my phone is unrooted and clear of bloatware?

Steps
#1. Locate GS4 box, place phone inside box.
#2. Return to store and get iPhone.
Serious tho. Best thing you can do is READ. SEARCH and READ. SEARCH and READ.
If you are unsure about something, READ again. Most questions have already been asked and answered.
If you find yourself lost......SEARCH and READ. Believe me this is this most useful advice you will ever get here.
Stuff is so easy now compared to when android 1st started. I remember rooting my G1 on a terminal prompt and installing recovery with wicked long commands. Now everything is automated and the hardest (NOT) part is reading the step by step instructions provided on almost every mod and tweak.

After using blackberry all my life i got my first samsung phone. I am using the 3g single sim version of the note 3 neo (running version 4.3). It has been a month and i am thinking of rooting the phone but don't understand it completely so if you guys could answer my questions and point me in the right direction it would be a great help, thanks!!
1) Will towelroot work for me? In the forums some people say it does and some say it doesn't so i don't know which to follow.
2) If it won't, what is the best method for phone?
3) If anything goes wrong, how do i go revert all changes and what are the chances of irreversable damage being caused?
4) With the upcoming kit kat update, i was thinking of holding off on all this rooting stuff, is it possible for me to update to kit kat after rooting?
EDIT: I thought i would just piggy back on this post instead of starting a new one; The blackberry keyboard had this setting where it would not auto correct spelling mistakes but would add punctuation so cant would automatically change to can't. Is there any way to do this on android without auto correcting words?

1. I don't know about towel root so can't comment.
2. Use CF root for ur model.
3. Usually there are never any issues if u follow the steps correctly, but still use it at ur own risk!
4. Yes, u can update the phone after unrooting it.
NOTE: after rooting knox counter is triggered & u will lose ur warranty!
I have no idea about ur keyboard solution but u can have a look in the play store.

Since we still don't have custom roms, I recommend u to install xposed framework & install some light modules for customisation!
